Basketball

Just finished making the basketball article for the 2009 Games, with help from the Portugese wiki. However, I'm missing some key bits of information.

Firstly, only a women's contest was held. Was this always planned this way? Or was a men's tournament cancelled? Secondly, Cyprus were leaders of Group A but were disqualified and did not play against France for their final game. Any idea why they were disqualified? I've searched for ages and still not found anything. Are there any French sources that discuss this? Cheers. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Join WikiProject Athletics! 08:48, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work. That should also be discussed on the main article in the "Games" > "Events" section above the "Sports/Cultural" section. I believe this bit of information could also give a good DYK if you want to put that in your suggestion at Talk:DYK! I'm almost done filling out all the competition results – just Table tennis to go. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Join WikiProject Athletics! 11:41, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd forgotten about the Eurobasket competition. I assume that's the one you mean. I'll make a note that a men's tournament was scheduled but didn't go ahead due to a conflict with that tournament. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Join WikiProject Athletics! 11:50, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jeita photos

I've found some private photos taken outside the grotto in 1998, I'll scan them and upload them next sunday. FunkMonk (talk) 18:04, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here are three photos, I think the two first could be used in the article, and the third is just if we ever need one more for filer. They're all from right outside the grotto. The first one[1] is maybe the entrance or a café outside or something, don't remember, and the second is some kind of Jeita train, where you can see the teleferique arrival place in the background (I'm the boy on the left standing with the side to the camera by the way, my father took the picture, but I doubt he gives a damn if I release it under whatever license).[2] The last one is just a souvenir shop.[3] If you think any of them can be used, I'll crop and colour correct those ones and upload them to Commons. FunkMonk (talk) 23:07, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You there? FunkMonk (talk) 18:33, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Found a Flickr profile of a guy who has images from inside the cave, I'll ask him if he will release them under Commons compatible licenses: http://www.flickr.com/photos/billandben/sets/72157611844374708/ FunkMonk (talk) 17:09, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for 2009 Francophone Games

Updated DYK query On October 10, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2009 Francophone Games, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. .

Thanks. I would cite a reference, but I have never found one. But I was there last year and the guy who looks after the quarry (has a cafe there) said there is a smaller stone in the next quarry. I went and measured it with a surveyor's tape, and it was substantially bigger. Don't have the measurements with me, but I seem to remember a meter wider and two meters longer. The evidence is in the photo.

There is also no great discussion in this section about the underground tunnels, which clearly demonstrate two construction phases on the site (one megalithic and one seemingly Roman). Again I have photos, but no references. Every reference I have found suggests that the entire site was Roman.

In addition, I have placed some more comments on the Baalbek discussion pages, as there is more that can be added to this page.

A tag has been placed on Green Party of Lebanon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Ironholds (talk) 22:13, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Green Party of Lebanon, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Green Party of Lebanon. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ironholds (talk) 22:21, 6 November 2009 (UTC) [reply]

Sorry for the late reply

Sorry for the late reply, bit of a busy day! I haven't been able to find anything on the castle a part from that it was also known as Passe Saint-Guillaume and Castrum Constabularii, it seems to have been associated with the Constable of Tripoli post, perhaps the Constable was stationed there?[4] About Marie-Alphonsine Danil Ghattas; I was surprised that there are Catholics in Palestine to be honest, of course I'd known of Lebanese Maronites and Iraqi Chaldeans, but thought that most other Christians in the region were Eastern Orthodox (Palestinians, Jordanians and Syrians)? - Yorkshirian (talk) 20:09, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Elie, Why did you delete "WISSAM SHEKHANI" page?

You deleted a very important page about a contemporary lebanese polymath "WISSAM SHEKHANI" who is so much contributing in the intellectual and cultural development of Lebanon. Why would you Elie delete aricles about lebanese intellectuals ?!! Aren't you lebanese? Don't you want to support Lebanese artists and inventors?! We need your full support please to bring back the page of "Wissam Shekhani"; the surprising issue that we found all the Lebanese singers and dancers in Wkipedia, but only rare Lebanese Intellectuals and Scientists !!! Are you deleting them? Regards, Fans of Wissam Shekhani Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.96.174.161 (talk) 21:31, 27 November 2009 (UTC) [reply]

I donno where i should reply so ill do it here, the answer is quite simple please read WP:Notability. I have never heard of the guy, ill give an example of a notable lebanese scientist who has proven himself on the international scene Pierre Zalloua is a great man who ironically does not have a wikipedia entry in his name, so i am creating one right now. Wikipedia has rules, i make sure these rules are respected, do not take it personally, wikipedia is not a CV repository, it is not a fan site and is not a site to display vanity. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of the Eshmun Temple, and its one of the places I'm planning on spending time at on the next trip. Arriving

In writing, there are are always small matters for possible improvement. (Arthur C. Clarke, after years, rewrote one of his fine stories, but didn't improve it in any substantial way, imho.) At some point, a writer needs to be "internally directed". I think you're there.

Hello and thank you very much for creating the discussion page. I usually write in the german Wikipedia: [5] and sometimes do small correctios in other ones. Hi Eli+. Thank you, and I hope you had a happy holidays as well. Regarding the issue you mentioned, the diff you linked would indeed indicate that the user is the same as the blocked IP address editor. Hope that helps, and good luck! ← George talk 13:11, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Decent" → "descent"? Absolutely. But I'm not sure what you meant with "blonde" → "blond". — The Man in Question (in question) 08:17, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hey sorry for putting my nose where it doesn't belong, i did not mean to upset you, it was probably my way to express how much i enjoyed reading your page. why "blond"?, it must be the influence of Mrs. Ljudmila our Russian- English teacher who favored UK English for some reason. Both are right mate, don't worry, technically i did not ruin your page :D . The way i see it, i say "blond hair" vs "she is blonde" _ " a blonde girl". Eli+ 21:26, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I wasn't upset. I use blonde for girls, blond for boys, brunette for girls, brunet for boys. — The Man in Question (in question) 01:28, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the 'under constructon' tag.   pablohablo. 20:09, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have not finished expanding _not major revamp, i found your sarcasm objectionable_ the article as i still have to fill it's many gaps; it also needs a lot of attentive copy editing. i tend to edit sluggishly at bed time so bear with me. Eli+ 20:58, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The tag at the top of the page read "This article or section is in the middle of an expansion or major revamping." No sarcasm was intended, if you saw it as sarcastic and objectionable there's little I can do about that.   pablohablo. 21:28, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem thanks. well she was one of the few requests made that i haeard of so i thought why not haha I honestly had no idea you were going to do the page until afterwards sorry lol but thanks again please feel free to add more info i did what i could based on scarce sources available, i didnt use arabic ones because usually use googletranslator(yeah i know not very accurate but lol but still gets the basics i need to know) since i cant read in arabic to verify whats written. Thank you for making a report about User:Ronron101010 on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, it appears that the editor you reported may not have had any time to react to your four warnings In fact they stopped editing before the first. Please also note there is a difference between vandalism and unhelpful or misguided edits made in good faith or even POV pushing. If the user continues to vandalise after a recent final warning, please re-report it. Thank you!--Tikiwont (talk) 20:18, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The reason I removed this page from Category:Footpaths is that Category:Hiking trails in Asia is a subcat of Category:Hiking trails, which is subcat of Category:Footpaths - see WP:CAT. Put it another way, if every hiking trail in the world was put into Category:Footpaths, the category would become unusable. Mhockey (talk) 18:13, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You appear to be involved in an edit war on Matt Freije . While the three-revert rule is hard and fast, please be aware that you can be blocked for edit warring without making 3 reverts to an article in 24 hours. You are not entitled to 3 reverts and are expected to cooperatively engage other editors on talk pages rather than reverting their edits.
