Notability: Should I change topics, or find more articles?

Hi SwisterTwister!

Thanks for looking at my article again! I'm glad it's improving. Are you saying that this business just inherently ins't notable enough? I've looked at the wiki CORP Notability guidelines, and it seems that all my third-party sources are more in-depth than generic announcements or reviews; many are news articles, and in-depth interviews. I believe Version One Ventures in notable because they have spurred the growth for so many companies! Not to mention the startup world is slowly growing in popularity and size. However, I may have to start with a different startup/venture capitalist if these sources aren't strong enough. I can't find any more!

Thanks in advance for your help and advice. Johnsonclaire770 (talk) 15:51, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jeffrey H Song (talk) 06:35, 24 November 2015 (UTC) Hi David, Thank you for taking the time to review my created article Draft: Fast Future Brands. I have checked the submission’s references with notability at all. As you can see the references in my article, I am sure that is notability. Even though I tried to rectify the references a lot of times, there are declined with simple message “This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability” I would appreciate if you could give me some advice with more detailed information. Cheers.[reply]

Hi there, my page for WinkBingo was refused on the grounds of notability. However, I feel it has been adequately sourced and is no more or less notable than many other pages already published. For example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/888casino. Could you please advise what else I can do to meet criteria. Many thanks Petecampbell88 (talk) 10:29, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SwisterTwister. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Mhee Noi, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The Nation article is enough for A7. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Edits to page your reviewed

Hi there, Thanks for reviewing the page I created on the NGO the UK Climate Change and Migration Coalition. You suggested that the article used to many primary sources - ie citiations to documents etc created by the organization its self. To remedy this I have added several citations to media articles about the organization and resubmitted it for aproval. Thanks PaperGoldFish (talk) 14:42, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I have added additional references in support of the article but my issue is most of the information I have found are from online news publications. Will this be a problem as the company I am writing about is 4 years old so there isn't any other referneces I can find at the moment, although I am still looking?

I have also corrected the references but for one that is missing the authors name, the article doesn't actually state the authors name, instead it only has the publications name in place of the author. Please let me know your thoughts.

Look forward to hearing your feedback.

Many thanks!

Hi SwisterTwister,

Can you please elaborate on your comments for the ["Christopher Bevans"] draft? You mentioned "This is getting closer, but still needs any more available sources about him and his work overall"

are you able to refer to certain lines/paragraphs that need rewriting or different sourcing? Your insight is appreciated.

Thanks.

A beer for you!

I guess I need clarification about a couple points.

1) "This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability—see the guidelines on the notability of people and the golden rule."

I've referenced several sources that cite the artist as either a founder or an important member of the visionary art movement. I also reference 4 books dedicated completely to her art as well as a number of books that she has illustrated, including one by a well-known author, Ursula K. Le Guin. I would think any of these would mark her as worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia.

2) Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Every paragraph in the article has references that could be looked at to verify the information. What is wrong with the references I have used?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My motivation of creating an article about Arthur Kudner stems from finding his famous words on "big words" first, and later discovering that he himself had not just been the author of a single famous phrase, but had a decisive role in the development of the American dream and the American Way of Life which has both impressed and been detested by Europeans before and after World War II. As it is my first article on a person, I did not notice any Wikiquette about that particular kind of Wikipedia articles.

Unfortunately, I do not have enough time to thoroughly research his life and dig out some more "citeable" references for the things I found out by simple searching the web for pieces on him. I choose an extract of information from these sources and composed them to an article covering the Person Arthur Kudner, both father and son. The father, son and the sons first wife were definitely persons of public interest at their time, by being close friends of Grace Kelly, and by leaving footprints first in America and later worldwide in the way advertisement and marketing were becoming an essential part of public life in modern western society.

My conception of Wikipedia was that articles would start even if they are not yet perfect, fragmentary and erroneous, as long as the focused item or, in my case, person was relevant to the public. After reading the guidelines on notability, it is clear to me that Arthur Kudner, both junior and senior, had been creative professionals which made significant contributions to the marketing and advertisement industries in the developing 20th century, insofar fulfilling the second additional criterion on notability, namely "originating a significant new concept, theory or technique". It should not matter that Kudner's contributions were not in the pure artistic domain. Some of his ad slogans have even become common language, this alone should suffice to prove notability.

But I understand that all this needs references to reliable secondary sources and I guess that the sources I added to the first version do not meet all the necessary standards for reliability. My hope was and still is that other Wikipedia authors would close this gap after reading about the article and the famous citation, which also has not been covered in the wikipedia so far. I hope I could persuade you and would suggest to let the article start this way and invite corrections and completions, as I have seen with several Wiki articles before. I don't find resources other than what used in the article Vandana(Kannada actress). Because she is a veteran actress active in 1960s decade. After her last film no one knows what she is doing. But she was a good actress who did many memorable roles in as many as 20 films in Kannada during her career spanning 8 years. You can watch her films on youtube

1.Post Master https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR5I5WBX8mk 2.Bhagyada Bagilu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-CncWDino 3.Chinnari Puttanna https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L21EMMGZ7Ic and many more famous films

I think the resources that are provided in the article are more than enough to create an article on artist.
In this link http://www.supergoodmovies.com/12536/sandalwood/rajesh-stunner-on-silver-screen-exclusives-details one of the legendary actor of Kannada Rajesh says
"In the 1950 onwards Honnappa Bhagavathar, Rajakumar, Udayakumar, Kalyankumar, Panthulu, Ashwath, Narasimha raju, Balakrishna, Iyer, B Saroja Devi, Leelavathi, Pandari Bai, MV Rajamma, Mynavathi, "Vandhana", Kalpana, Jayanthi, Bharathi enriched the film industry."
The Chiloka.com has created her profile (http://chiloka.com/celebrity/vandana) which will give the detailed filmography of her.
I don't why you are stopping this article from creating. My intention is to respect this forgotten artist. If you are still not convinced and sticking to rules and regulations its ok.

Thank You!

Reply to comment on Draft:Jeremiah Texts from Qumran

Hi SwisterTwister! Thanks for the comment on the draft.

I'm wondering if changing the draft to "Biblical Jeremiah Texts from Qumran" would be reasonable. In another conversation, I was informed that some of the Pseudo-Jeremiah texts were found on other Wikipedia pages, but I have seen a lack of representation of the Biblical Jeremiah scrolls found in other places on Wikipedia including the Letter of Jeremiah page, the Dead Sea Scrolls page, and the List of the Dead Sea Scrolls specifically in regards to Cave 4. If I focused more on the Biblical side of the Jeremiah Qumran texts, would that qualify as notable?

Thanks for the help. Azureindignation (talk) 07:06, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I could do with some advice as the additional information required to have this page approved. You will have read the club has had world class swimmers train here with references backed up by external independent articles and other wiki pages. During my research i've found other swim clubs wiki pages with less heritage.
As this is my first page I do require some specific guide nice

Thank you Andrew

Keepsharingknowledge The amount of sourcing is acceptable but most of the sources seem focused with the past members of the club, rather than specific coverage about the club itself (the club needs to be independently notable for a solid separate article). 09:24:37, 25 November 2015 review of submission by Baron667

Hi SwisterTwister, thanks for taking the time to review my article and for tidying it for me - my first wikiarticle so I've been on the help page to try and improve it a bit.

I got what you said about notability - yes, he hasn't held a position of office which would seem to be the requirement for notable politicians. I think therefore its fair to say I've probably mislabeled him. Should it say "Mark Clarke (Political Activist)" instead?

I have improved some of the sources, removed the weaker ones like Brietbart and replaced them with stronger ones, such as the BBC. I have removed the articles as the wiki helpers told me that it looked like CITEKILL and I was trying to hard to prove his notability. In fact I wasn't trying to do that, I was being careful to use a lot of sources because many of the newspaper articles about Clarke seem to be allegations at the moment, so I wanted to be sure it was clear it wasn't Wikipedia making the allegations. Even so - where one good source is necessary Ive kept it that way.

Also I have added a section where BBC Newsnight did a special feature on him this month, and also added a documentary about him which aired in 2007.

Can you suggest anything else to help me improve the article so it passes the notability guidelines? I've added lead articles and front page stories in the reference section with major newspapers - that might prove his notoriety but not sure about his notability.

Baron667 (talk) 05:30, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there David. Any update on approving this? You may have read that the UK International Decelopment Minister has resigned over this scandal now and its possible the Chairman of the Conservative Party in the UK will do as well - I will add this to the article. However what about changing it from (Politician) to (Political Activist)? Seems that would surmount the issue of having to be elected or hold office to assume notability. Baron667 (talk) 06:39, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Baron667 (talk) 05:30, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David

Have I met the requirements yet for this? Your two issues with it were:

notability: I have elaborated more, including documentary episodes on BBC on him, or special features, on national flagship shows: 3 in total (Newsnight x2 and BBC Radio 4), I have also elaborated more on his key involvement in the resignation of a uk government minister. If you can remove the politician handle then does this prove notability?

citations: I have furnished the article with many sources from UK's most respected newspapers and media outlets, including: BBC News, BBC Radio 4, BBC Newsnight, The Telegraph, The Times, The Guardian, THe Financial Times, The Independent, (Basically all the Broadsheets) and also the most widely read newspapers in the UK - Daily Mail, The Sun, The Mirror, and London's most listened to radio show LBC.

THe man is at the centre of the tatler tory scandal; he is at the centre of an investigation which has brought down a government minister, looks to bring down the Party Chairman, he's associated with the Prime Minister, national conferences have been cancelled, the entire executive of COnservative Party youth wing has been suspended; its been some of the biggest news in the UK over the last 3 months and an activist has even committed suicide over the scandal. MPs have allegedly been blackmailed. Is there anything else I can do to prove notability? If so please let me know David.

Thanks

Hi,

First of all, thank you for taking your time revising my article.

However, I would like your help clarifying your comment about my submission, when you said "Simply not enough in-depth third-party sources overall".

In my view, I have backed every statement in that article with evidence, and the work presented there is notable (again, it's the first co-production show in a 1-billion-habitants country).

So, what else could I do to fix this article? What kind of information is missing?

Thank you, G

I am hoping you can help me understand what lead you to determine that he is not notable so that I can adjust the article appropriately. He is the CEO of a company he founded at a time when there were not many companies providing wealth management, he lead the IPO of a major corporations (Entenmann's), serves in leadership roles of a major university, Hofstra, a major health system, North Shore-Long Island Jewish, and at one time was an owner of the NY Islanders. Draft:DeafVideo.tv added more third party sources

Hi SwisterTwister, you've given me feedback on a draft page I'm working on. I've went in and added more third party references. How many are needed to make a page? I think I've found about as many as I'm going to find for a subculture like deafness. If the page is not now adequate then how can I delete the draft page? Feel free to do that for me if you don't think the page is now worthy of wikipedia. I've given it all I have. I do think this is an interesting topic that people who are interested in learning about ASL or Deaf culture should know about. It is a Deaf space that propogates the spread and influence of Deaf culture in the internet age. Thanks for considering my page and for the help making it possible. I am trying to submit a wiki article for my band Caramel Carmela. I don't understand why I can't use the description I have provided. As I stated, all of the band's information submitted are my own words. Our bio is the same on each web page, because use the same bio for all of our artist submission forms. I assure you nobody is going to ask for the information to be taken down. The only person who could possibly do that would be me.

Best regards, Sha Gipson Caramel Carmela

Hello! After further review, you said that the draft page Logz.io looked good and asked if I could add more sources. I added more sources a few weeks ago. So, could you let me know the status of the draft whenever you have a chance? :)

Hello Reviewer-

Could you give me more specifics about adding third party sources? Would direct links to all Journal articles, books, (publishers), ISBN numbers, etc. satisfy this? Could you provide me an example of what you are looking for?

Thank you.

Hello SwisterTwister, thank You for reviewing my article! Unfortunately it has been deleted. Is it possible to get it back as draft? I could not found how... I realy tried. I wish to follow Your suggestion and complete it with the third-part refereces (which are many too...) May I ask You to review my article once more then?

I want to ask David, the random patroller - When all the sources mentioned are of leading newspapers and agencies why more references are needed. The article is of interest because it talks about public speaking on Indian culture and Yoga represented at places of repute - University of Oxford, California, International Association of Yoga Therapists by DR. Radhika Nagrath. Also she has been the guest of honour to the government institutions like Consul General of India to Dubai. Reenun (talk) 03:58, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reenun First, please see Referencing for beginners to learn how to better format the listed sources and, second, the listed sources are simply not enough for the notability guidelines listed with my comment. All your claims and information may be accurate but it simply needs more sources overall. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 04:01, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

With reference to the submitted article 'Adi Dharam' reviewed by you

Hi, As per your instructions I have added a few more references to the article on Adi Dharam (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Adi_Dharam). However, I had resubmitted the article after doing so, but this another reviewer rejected the submission saying that the article is already present on Wikipedia, which is not true. I wrote to him validating my point but till now I have not received any reply from him nor am I expecting one soon. Kindly help me out otherwise I have again to resubmit it and again agonizingly wait for another month for approval.

PubNub article review follow up

Hi SwisterTwister, thanks for taking the time to review PubNub on November 14, 2015!

I've added few dozen secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject and improved the PubNub submission's referencing. Anxiously waiting for a follow up review that the information is now verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the PubNub subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in the encyclopedia.

Thanks for considering PubNub article and for the help making it possible.

Submission declined followup

Hi SwisterTwister, thanks for reviewing my article on Christopher Anselmo!

I completely understand your reason behind the comment. What can I do to fix the problem? I'm relatively new to Wikipedia, so perhaps it was the way I inserted my references? (I believe there are enough credible third-party sources to support the notability guidelines, but there might easily be a more effective way to reference them). If not, what other sorts of sources do you suggest adding? Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in bringing my article to life! --Adenburg (talk) 05:45, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adenburg Simply add any more available in-depth third-party sources overall to that it fully satisfies the listed notability guidelines. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 05:48, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've got an idea of where I need to go! But just so we're on the same page... Thinking that would involve, say, for the "Involvement at Northwestern" section: finding press releases for the various shows he's written and directed, and not quoting from his website or LinkedIn. Would that be enough, or should I go further (and if so, how much further would I have to go)? Thank you once again. --Adenburg (talk) 05:56, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Adenburg Well to be honest press releases aren't always used unless they are the only available sources as they often simply published material by the entity (or entities) themselves so third-party sources (such as news, journals, magazines, etc.) are often used instead. Cheers! SwisterTwister talk 06:05, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see! Quite a few of my sources are from various newspapers, both regional and college-based, and some electronic (see Broadwayworld.com, though a more widely used website for theatrical/Broadway-related news is Playbill.com, where I just found a source relating to my article). I'll try and find some more newspapers and interviews and will attempt to phase out all the "entity-published" references; will resubmit my article within the next couple of days. I am keen to understand more clearly why the sources provided to show Invest Europe's notability are not sufficient, and what type of further article / link I could provide to allow the page to be published. Invest Europe is the European equivalent of the National Venture Capital Association in the United States, which seems to have little information to support its notability: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Venture_Capital_Association In the past week Invest Europe research has been referenced in the Financial Times - http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/3a7d4ebe-78a4-11e5-a95a-27d368e1ddf7.html#axzz3sxtGHVMl In addition, an update to its professional standards, which acts as a code of conduct for the private equity and venture capital industry in Europe, has been reported widely in the European financial media (eg - Financial News - http://www.efinancialnews.com/story/2015-11-24/invest-europe-transparency-guidelines ) Would those additions help? Thank you,

Looking in, the Financial Times article is a mere mention in an article about a person unnconnected with the company. The Financial News article does show what you say, and if added to the article I'd accept it. DGG ( talk ) 19:07, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: RM Education

Hello SwisterTwister. Your proposal for speedy deletion of RM Education was declined on the grounds that RM is probably one of the largest educational IT providers in the UK, providing pretty much all of the broadband infrastructure for UK schools as well as email, software etc. Its notability can be confirmed by searching using its former name of Research Machines. The company is very significant in its own market - IT services for schools, colleges and universities - and was for many years the strongest competitor of Acorn Computers, until Acorn folded Guffydrawers (talk) 12:48, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

SwisterTwister: please review the edits I have made re. Miratech Group. The information stated herein is factual, and I have taken great pains to provide, in reference to your editorial comments, numerous independent, external references; I also have taken the step to provide, from those independent external references, the information they have given to Miratech supporting why Miratech is notable. This is the third time our submission has been declined, and we're getting quite frustrated. I would appreciate any further inputs should the submission this time not be satisfactory, and we appreciate your help in getting this information about Miratech on Wikipedia. It's all factual; it's all out there for public consumption, and the company deserves a place in Wikipedia - which I use constantly, btw, in my daily work and personal life.

Hi there, thanks for reviewing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Wilhelm_Neumann-Torborg'. The German references do refer to him as a "well-known" sculptor, and if you look at the references you can see he is included in reference works about artists as well as in recent newspaper articles and scholarly papers. How would I assert this in the article itself to show you that this is a notable person? Thanks for your advice.184.147.121.46 (talk) 20:29, 30 November 2015 (UTC) 184.147.121.46 (talk) 20:29, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! Thank you for the reply. I'm glad it passes the notability hurdle.

Re your request for "simply" more sources and more information, I'm a bit baffled how to fulfill this request.

Re sources, how many more does it need? At some point in the creation process, there was an auto-generated list called "Find sources for Wilhelm Neumann-Torborg" or similar. I promise I clicked on every link (except JSTOR, because I don't have a subscription) and put everything I found in the article.

Also, what do you mean by more information? Is there a minimum length I need to reach? One of the sources that I could access has a long description of how he was hired to make the Elberfelder Poor Relief Momument but I thought that was a bit too fine detail for an encyclopedia article. But I could add another sentence there and pad it out a bit.

Thanks again for your help!184.147.121.46 (talk) 21:06, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What has to be included for third party sources in a draft

Dear SwisterTwister,

Which third party sources should I include to satisfy the journals notability. As it is e-journal and working with academic Publishing. Please tell the third party sources names so we can include it. Also tell which references should be included. As we have included the external links giving notability of this Journal.

The reviewer has rejected my article on James Chisholm (Senior) based on a lack of notability ["While most historical subjects are accepted, I'm simply not seeing the solid notability here"], suggesting the addition of more secondary sources and improvement of referencing. I have currently included some 40 primary sources in this article. With very few exceptions, the only major second source is the biography of the man's life that has just been published (The Merchant of Sydney). At the launch of this book last Saturday, Emeritus Professor Brian Fletcher, one of Australia's most distinguished historians of early colonial history, said it was extraordinary that such a prominent colonial identity had, to date, "slipped through the historian's net" and had "been sorely neglected for some two centuries". As Professor Fletcher says, James Chisholm has been largely ignored for more than 200 years, and yet he was the equal of many who already feature strongly in the articles of Wikipedia, and certainly exceeds many others in notability. He was a major early entrepreneur and merchant; responsible. possibly only secondary to Robert Campbell, for opening up significant trade with Bengal; he owned a large area of the early town of Sydney; he was selected by Governor Macquarie as a member of his Governor's Court; he owned the first Bank of New South Wales of which he was a founding shareholder and Director; and he was widely acclaimed as one of Sydney's most respected early citizens. He has been neglected by history because he was a modest man who did not promote himself. I have tried to avoid rhetoric and stuck to the facts. I am able to add many more primary sources to this article, if this is required. However, the only other secondary sources that mention him are already cited. Can you please advise on how I should proceed? With thanks Chis Maxwell Chis Maxwell (talk) 11:06, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DragonflySixtyseven: The message that you received was automatically produced by the articles for creation helper script. ==Ronnie Apteker

Hi SisterTwister Re your review of my page, I take your comments on board and hope to be able to provide a solution myself. But I feel bound to say, that a lack of consistency over how criteria are applied is one of the most confusing and maddening things about contributing to Wikipedia. I found it easier doing my university thesis! Take a look at David Frankel (entrepreneur) who was Ronnie Apteker's business partner. It reads like the dullest of CVs, largely written by David Frankel himself if the View History is anything to go by. So could your explain how he is able to get away with that, whereas Ronnie Apteker deserves recognition if only for his contribution to cinema. Doesn't Wiki say that films, books, music are evidence in themselves?

It seems a self-evident that unless criteria are applied equally, then the system must be flawed and consequently in danger of losing credibility Picknick99 (talk) 16:32, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article Resubmission (Tup Tup Palace)

Hi SwisterTwister, thanks for reviewing my draft article and for your feedback (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Tup_Tup_Palace&redirect=no). I have added more in-depth third-party sources and made some amendments to the structure and content of the article.

In terms of depth of coverage, Tup Tup Palace has been the subject of verifiable significant coverage in many reliable, independent secondary sources spanning a period of some 8 years. There is no shortage of verifiable, objective evidence that it has attracted significant attention from numerous independent sources. The article now has 54 citations in total, of which approximately 1/3 constitute ‘significant’ coverage as opposed to ‘trivial / incidental’. I am aware that the trivial / incidental sources are not, in themselves, an argument for notability, but I feel that such citations can still provide useful background for the article as a whole, which I have tried to make as comprehensive as possible.

I feel that the audience of the sources is also relevant here; the coverage is not only limited to local news but features national and even some international coverage.

It is also my opinion that this venue has had a significant and demonstrable effect on Newcastle’s nightlife culture and national profile as a glamorous location. I say this because celebrities were simply not seen out in the city prior to it’s opening (a cursory internet search reveals this). The inference being that Newcastle as a city did not have a bar / nightclub of sufficient calibre to attract such celebrities.

I hope you agree there are now enough sources cited to demonstrate that the subject is genuinely notable, but I will of course take your guidance on that or any other improvements that you feel I could make. Laurahartley (talk) 17:36, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MassCEC article submission

Hi Sister Twister,

Thanks for your feedback. I want to let you know I spent a lot of time searching for sources outside of MassCEC, and was only able to find independent information primarily through the legislation that led to its inception, and content that partners and affiliated groups had put out. I used the NYSERDA, New York State Energy Research Development Authority, as a commensurate article and noticed they have similar sources and style of writing. While I can see why it appears to be written as an advertisement, this is what the organization does, as reported by them and every third party resource I could find.

Please let me know your thoughts on this and maybe provide a specific example of how I could fix it. Please feel free to edit yourself, as MassCEC has national and international recognition and certainly deserves an article. Side note, should it matter that MassCEC expressed opposition to a Wikipedia publication on them? Also something to consider.

Thank you for your time.

Hi SwisterTwister,

Thanks for your help. My page is still being rejected unfortunately, even though it has citations from respectable sources (Published non-fiction, government reports, UK Cabinet Office website, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Wharton School of Business (U.Penn), Businesweek - none of which publish anything other than their own opinion), plus many more. Do I need to add more?

Re the topic of my post not being notable, I am not sure why this is being cited as a reason for the post being rejected - Wikipedia has itself created a Category called 'Private equity firms of the United Kingdom', which has over 50 posts listed under it (many of which have 0 references), so this topic is notable by Wikipedia's own standards.

Would it help if I deleted some of the text from the post?

I’d love to appeal for the Bridges Ventures post. I believe this post is a notable for the following reasons:

The organisation has received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the firm (Times, Telegraph, Guardian, the UK Government, published non-fiction) – “Evidence of significant coverage by international or national, or at least regional, media is a strong indication of notability.”

Bridges plays a large role in the growth of the impact investment sector in the UK, in terms of both practice and research. Sustainable and impact investing is a growing financial sector which combines philanthropy and private equity. We are also at the forefront of the growth of sector in Latin America.

Bridges is an educational provider, the first in the world to offer global sustainable and impact investing training, in partnership with an American ivy league.

Are all of these reason not enough??

Thanks for all your help on this

Page is now updated with many additional third-party sources from credible publishers like The Village Voice, Leica Camera, Hyperallergic, Out Magazine, etc. Page matches photographer pages of his contemporaries such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siegfried_Hansen_%28photographer%29

articles added showing coverage of his work in various countries and languages Italy, France, Germany.

What specifically is still lacking to establish credibility as a photographer?

Hi SwisterTwister -- Thank you for your review. I'm wondering why my submission was declined. Hernán Jiménez is one of the most notable Costa Rican entertainers, and all my references come from La Nación, which is Costa Rica's leading, most important and respectable newspaper. Could you please tell me how to improve the article in order to have it approved?

Many thanks! Kiaora1980

Thanks for your quick reply, SwisterTwister -- I understand what you mean. I respectfully ask you to reconsider? While I understand that the subject is not as notable in the United States or English speaking world, he is certainly one of the most notable people in Costa Rica, and probably the best known entertainer. So I wonder - and I ask this with honest curiosity - is the level of notoriety measured by how known someone is in the entertainment industry in the States? I'm confused as to how much more notable a person can be when they are indeed notable in their home country. Again, I ask this with sincerity and not rhetorically: Is it the size and "importance" of the country that matters then? Isn't a very notable Costa Rican (to Costa Ricans) a notable person? Thank you and please excuse my insistence.

Kiaora1980 (talk) 01:22, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He may well-known locally but for a universal article here, it will need any more available information and sources for solid notability. Cheers Kiaora1980, SwisterTwister talk 01:26, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear SwisterTwister, A series of international conferences devoted to an important scientific interface (mathematics and physics), and with a track record of almost 25 years, would seem to be notable! Hi, the below was approved by the Hungarian Wikipedia - as it is supported by topic-independent, still specialist sources -. This page is a translation of that. Or, would you please explain the difference between the HU and the EN Wikipedia rules? Many thanks, Agi

Agnes.Szabo.1 Well, to be honest, there's not even much currently with that draft and what there is simply looks like an advertisement complete with words such "our". Instead, add better information and in-depth third-party sources such as news, journals and magazines overall. Also, in case you're not aware of it, WP:Referencing for beginners shows you how to better format the listed sources. I'm not an active user at Hungarian Wiki but the English Wiki is known to be more active of course and have higher standards. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 20:32, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear SwisterTwister:

Thank you for your review of the proposed article on Dr. Joel Snyder. I would appreciate it if you could specify:

- what material suggested copyright violations, - how the article can further indicate Dr. Snyder's notability beyond the significant awards, accomplishments, and his position as a pioneer in the development of audio description, and its principal exponent internationally over the last 35 years (these items are noted within the submitted article).

Many thanks for your assistance. It would be important to the field of audio description and its consumers (over 21 million people in the United States alone) to have this article accepted by Wickipedia.

Cordially,

Hi, I see that you reviewed the page. This has been the subject of a heated discussion as to whether or not is should be merged into Green Party of England and Wales. What is really needed is a neutral senior editor to look at the arguments for and against and close the review so that it is not felt that any particular vested interest has 'won' by closing it (as has happened before). If you have the time to do this, that would be great. Thanks. Btljs (talk) 16:57, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will only merge material sourced to TechCrunch, Mississippi Business Journal, Broadcasting & Cable, and The Clarion-Ledger, which all pass Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. After adding countless citations, links to verifiable sources, etc. there still seems to be issue with this submission. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Steve_Sinnicks The artist has been featured on CBC (National News & Information), The Hamilton Spectator (major market newspaper, part of the national chain Metroland Media), won Hamilton Music Awards for "Recording Of The Year" twice, City of Hamilton Arts Award for "Established Artist", played and recorded with many other major artists - who also play and appear on his recordings, interviewed and reviewed in national music magazines (Exclaim! and Chart Attack), played at major events and festivals including the nationally noted NXNE and Canada Music Week and charted on independent radio stations across the country. These all fit the definitions and guidelines for both notability and "reputable sources, independent of the topic/subject".

Hi Sister Twister

I have made a few amendments to the Ronnie Apteker - removed perceived promotional tone and added two good refs from Forbes magazine and Cape Times. I am still a little perturbed regarding your comments re Internet Solutions and R.A - the former is a piece of corporate promotional tripe with little merit, whereas Ronnie Apteker has surely a much greater claim to notability. See also his former partner's page - David Frankel - another piece of self-promotion that seems to have escaped the editor's attention. Surely this idea of one rule for one and another rule for another is not only unfair to contributors but damages Wikipedia's credibility? Picknick99 (talk) 19:23, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

SisterTwister, I am miffed!

I believe I have offered everything you asked for and been true to the golden rule.

  • Significance: 36 references in a 370 word entry; I challenge any other business's wikipedia entry to match that rate of links to words. Software that runs 70%+ of US TV stations. Four funding rounds.
  • Reliable and Independent Sources: My 36 citations come from 18 discrete and totally legitimate media sources.

In addition, I have avoided marketing fluff, provided a whole lot of internal wiki links, and avoided the usual business rathole of trying to get in every last bit of history of product development, executive hires and so forth. Like these guys: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janrain or this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIT_Digital

Thank you for your review SwisterTwister. I do understand the purpose of wikipedia and have no intention to making an advertisement there. Yet somehow I cannot understand the difference between my submission and for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Yachting_Association, which is basically very similar organization. I can delete some adjectives like „successfully”, but this will only steal information from the submission. Where does advertisement start? I’m not telling there that the organization is super, extra, wonderful and beautiful. But I do want to mention achievements and describe the scope of activity. What kind of reliable, published sources can you find on the RYA entry, apart for the material produced by the creator? Mine submission has at least some sources other than that. I know the removalist industry is not that exciting a starting point for creating a Wikipedia career and I've spent so much time learning about it and reading articles about it that I'm reluctant to give up on it....I think there are cruddier less deserving articles that have been accepted into Wikipedia (though admitted I haven't seen one for a while). But there does reach a point where I may need to be told if the subject matter is inherently un-notable and is never going to make it, so that I can find a new hobby to write about. Anyway, your feedback would be great. Where am I going wrong? Or is because the topic is salted due to previous puff pieces being done? (not sure if you knew this, but I found some of the history...and this topic has had some really crap articles written for it). Cheers Alokibees (talk) 05:34, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

9 December 2015 - notability requirements for AfC by Kentunderstand

Hi SwisterTwister - thanks for taking another look at my submission. I'm puzzled about the notability requirements. As there are four separate articles from TechCrunch, and another from Bloomberg Business, I'm not sure what kind of coverage would be better - any advice?

I'm sending this message trying to figure out why my submission for wikipedia was declined. It was cited for lack of notability. I am somewhat confused, as the four other Defense Security Cooperation Agency (Part of US Dept of Defense) regional centers (George C. Marshall Center for European Security Studies, Near East South Asia Center for Security Studies, Africa Center for Security Studies, and the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies have entries in wikipedia, and some of them have even less reference material that is even valid.

Would adding more references to the entry help with the submission? If so, what sort of references would be suggested?

Thank you for your help.

The Teller and the Truth

Thank you for taking the time to review the page I created. In your comments you asked that I "Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia." The film I have created the page for premiered at the Austin Film Festival, has been picked up for distribution, and will be available on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix, starting in February. I have several more sources of information I can include for references but because the film has not yet premiered widely I do not have national critic reviews just yet. I can link to the film's website and imdb page, would that help? My main question is what I do now to get the page created?

Thank you for your time!

01:47:43, 10 December 2015 review of submission by Chis Maxwell

I note my article on James Chisholm (Senior) has been rejected based on a lack of notability ["While most historical subjects are accepted, I'm simply not seeing the solid notability here"], suggesting the addition of more (independent) secondary sources and improvement of referencing. I have currently included some 40 primary sources in this article. With very few exceptions, the only major second source is the biography of the man's life that has just been published (The Merchant of Sydney). At the launch of this book, Emeritus Professor Brian Fletcher, one of Australia's most distinguished historians of early colonial history, said it was extraordinary that such a prominent colonial identity had, to date, "slipped through the historian's net" and had "been sorely neglected for some two centuries". As Professor Fletcher says, James Chisholm has been largely ignored for more than 200 years, and yet he was the equal of many who already feature strongly in the articles of Wikipedia, and certainly exceeds many others in notability. He was a major early entrepreneur and merchant; responsible. possibly only secondary to Robert Campbell, for opening up significant trade with Bengal; he owned a large area of the early town of Sydney; he was selected by Governor Macquarie as a member of his Governor's Court (apart from the Judge Advocate, there was only one other member); he owned the first Bank of New South Wales of which he was a founding shareholder and Director; and he was widely acclaimed as one of Sydney's most respected early citizens. He has been neglected by history because he was a modest man who did not promote himself, and did not leave a collection of documents. I have tried to avoid rhetoric and stuck to the facts. I am able to add many more primary sources to this article, if this is required. However, the only other secondary sources that mention him are already cited. Can you please advise on how I should proceed? With thanks Chis Maxwell

This person is IMHO certainly notable, as a director of major movies (see The Cruise (1970 film), the red links in the article need some redirects). Also, note the entry at [3]. It is my opinion that for biographies of Polish artist, having an article about oneself at culture.pl is a sufficient criteria for being notable (reliable in-depth coverage); culure.pl IMHO is akin to an online encyclopedia of Polish culture. If there are any other bios by that editor you'd like me to review, let me know, I looked at one more and it appears notable. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:26, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am completely new to making Wikipedia articles and would like some guidance. I read your comments but would like to know exactly what was not sufficient about the sources referenced. I used the article for Allegis Group as an example while writing this article and felt they had met similar standards. If you could please advise which sources are not in-depth enough, I would appreciate it.

He has 400 research papers, is author of several books, his work has been cited >6000 times, has been awarded Life Time achievement awards & is a fellow of many international societies, & is the editor of Journal of Food Engineering, best journal in food engineering. I am sure he deserves a wikipedia entry according to criteria 2, 3, 4, 5, 8.

This article is written by a student of mine, and I think it's a notable topic - the article already cites three newspapers (one in English) that focus on the festival. GNews search also brings up [4]. Google shows it has an entry on English language Korean government official tourism site, [5]. There is stuff like [6]. I think the topic is notable enough for a "recurring event" (Wikipedia:Notability (events), and although I am a bit biased (my student), you know I am also not the one to promote spam... so could you reconsider your decline here? We could take it to AfD, if you'd insist. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:20, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Piotrus, I agree with you that it's notable, but perhaps you can get the student to rewrite it in sentences, not bullet points. DGG ( talk ) 23:55, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
DGG She did it at Draft:Seoul Independent Film Festival. I didn't realize there was another worse copy of the draft in mainspace... was it deleted and restored? It's a bit ironic we have a poor article in mainspace and her attempts to move her better draft out there have been rejected. PS. SwisterTwister, would you mind telling me why are you ignoring this thread? Tomorrow is the last day of the class and I still can't tell her that her article is fine. Sigh. Wikipedia is NOT friendly to newbies - case in point. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:08, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Piotrus, I've been busy around here and frankly I also haven't been motivated as usual here (because of some uncomfortable events recently), but I would say it's best to work and make the current article better before we take it to AfD (unless you want others to comment, for that matter). I would also say drafting and userfying is an option for now. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 07:14, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sam, could you do me a favor and move it to the mainspace (merging article histories), and if you want, take it to AfD then? I think it's notable as it is, and I don't think more work is needed here (for proving notability). The only problem I see is that the student, without asking, worked on it in the annoying draft userspace, rather then in Sandboxes. I find drafts very bad - they let through a ton of spam, and then add a layer of bureaucracy on the good articles like this. If I knew how that damn system works, I'd have approved it myself, but I am stuck having to ask somebody familiar with this (you or DGG) to mainspace the article. Once it is there, again, feel free to AfD it if you feel this needs further review. Thanks, PS. Don't let the wikistress get to you. In the past the best remedy for me was to ignore flamewars and just write some new content. DYK something and you'll feel better. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:19, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Who's "Sam"? I'm now userfying it, yes. Cheers Piotrus and what always makes me feel better is simply knowing there are still amicable and beneficial users here. SwisterTwister talk 07:22, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, for some reason I was thinking of you as SamTwister; maybe your username run into my semi-automated pun detection and destruction system. Wikipedia can be a grueling experience sometimes; but writing content helped me survive my darker days here, even when I felt that most of the "community" wanted to crucify me, I kept writing for the general public. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:31, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a line at the end of the article that should establish notability. Please advise.

Thanks,

Trove and AustLit

I removed the deletion notice at Goldie Alexander because I found a detailled biography of her and reviews of her work at Trove and a different biography and information on her awards at AustLit. While AustLit focuses on Australian authors, Trove might be more broadly useful when assessing pages for deletion. In particular, Trove's 'people' search allows you to find works about a person, not just by them. Please consider adding these sources to your pre-deletion search when appropriate. Thank you. --211.30.17.74 (talk) 01:19, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SwisterTwister, I have removed the child lit project from the above talkpage as i don't think the article is under the purview of the project. But, i have also added a couple of projects which appear more appropriate, hope this is okay? ps. you do awesome work!

Article on Anil Gupta

Hi SwisterTwister. Thanks on your previous reviews of the article. I've added more links to primary sources as well as a section, with links, on discussions of Gupta's work.

I feel I need to add that the notability of contemporary authors who work in technical fields such as logic often does not correspond with a high online presence or linkable articles in news outlets. In all honesty, I really think that, within the discipline in which Gupta works, the article in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy on the Revision Theory suffices to show his notability: he developed an original theory of truth which is a rival of theories proposed by people like Kripke. That alone is a major contribution achieved by very few people who work in the discipline. I recognize the importance of Wikipedia's notability criteria, however, and hope that I have now done enough to show Gupta's notability. I hope you'll have time to look over the draft again; I look forward to your feedback.

Many thanks, 44 DFW (talk) 17:17, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Proposed deletion

Ta for the Thanks but really, you shouldn't encourage me. Prod-2 is - at best - a good babysteps exercise for wannabe serious deleters; for me its a notorious timewaster and a terrible temptation to exercise the sort of concise honesty that pisses the admins right off. I just held back from this (an SPA about his aristocratic name, who'll write an article on every family member that ever had a job if we let it) because its 4 days ago and its all of course entirely pointless. Just amusing myself for the risk of the getting told off by the po-faced twat doing the deletion. But then, if I did make you smile, it was worth it. All the best. Thanks for looking at my article on Samuel Colman. This is my first article. I don't quite understand about the citations. It seems as if I have plenty of references/links. Could you pick out a specific sentence or paragraph and tell me what kind of citation it needs? Thanks. I really appreciate your help. Otherbin (talk) 06:25, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Otherbin Simply needs any more available sources as mentioned as I'm simply not convinced all of the listed ones fully satisfy and suggest notability. SwisterTwister talk 06:28, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Seoul Independent Film Festival requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ODNB

I noticed [7]. But a full article in DNB has been regarded in many AfD decisions as proof of notability, even without anything else--and in fact we have many bio articles based on it alone. The same is true for similarly selective national bibliographies of other countries. DGG ( talk ) 17:23, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
