Hi,
My article is reviewed by you and got rejected. Actually i wanted to share the information of about a book written by my father so that many people will get to know about the book and where it is available for free. Dear Editor, We believe "metabolic surgery" should be added to Wikipedia as a separate item because "metabolic surgery" is clearly distinct from " bariatric surgery" for the following reasons: A. The objectives of "metabolic surgery" and "bariatric surgery"are different from each other.

The term "metabolic surgery" indicates a surgical approach whose primary objective is the control of metabolic alterations and hyperglycemia related with type 2 diabetes in contrast to "bariatric surgery," which provides weight-loss as the primary objective1.

B. "The patients who undergo metabolic surgery" is different from the patients who undergo bariatric surgery.

Choosing surgery to treat metabolic disease or diabetes without aiming weight loss makes a difference in defining the characteristics of surgical candidates1.

The metabolic surgery candidates are much older, there are more male patients and they have severe diabetes, metabolic syndrome and potential for cardiovascular disease2. BMI does not predict diabetes remission or glycemic control.

Ileal interposition which is a type of metabolic surgery was used effectively in controlling type 2 diabetes mellitus in clinical trials for nonobese populations with BMI less than 30 kg/m2 and 35 kg/m2 populations4-5.

Recent research6 including other types of surgery as Roux-en-Y gastric-bypass and biliopancreatic diversion has shown patients with a BMI 30 kg/m2 benefited from metabolic surgery in terms of diabetes control similarly to patients with BMI between 30 - 35 kg/m2.

C. "The expected outcomes of metabolic surgery" are different from bariatric surgery. Metabolic surgery is a new clinical pathway. The separation of metabolic surgery from bariatric surgery changes the clinical practice in terms of patient expectations and specific outcome measures2. International Diabetes Federation (IDF) stated that success of metabolic surgery interventions should be evaluated by the achievement of diabetes-spesific goals as remission of the diabetes state or improvement of the metabolic state.7

D. There are some "novel operations for metabolic surgery" . While most bariatric surgery techniques are being used to treat diabetes as well , several novel procedures specifically aimed to treat diabetes are already being developed which are not necessarily causing weight loss.

Laparoscopic ileal interposition is a novel type of metabolic surgery which was used effectively in controlling type 2 diabetes mellitus in clinical trials for nonobese populations with BMI less than 30 kg/m2 and 35 mg/m2 populations4-5.

E. "The rationale for public awareness about metabolic surgery" is different from bariatric surgery.

Using surgery to treat diabetes is a revolutionary concept8. With the name changing as metabolic surgery, public perceptions about diabetes treatment options may change too.

Obesity is currently considered as a life-style problem but diabetes is accepted as a chronic and deadly disease. The change in name as metabolic surgery might encourage patients to seek gastrointestinal metabolic surgery as a treatment option2. Otherwise the patient may never consider the fact that surgery may reverse diabetes and related metabolic disorders.

An integrated and multidisciplinary approach to metabolic surgery involving endocrinologists, surgeons and general public awareness is necessary for the benefit of the type 2 diabetes patient.

Hi Roger, My apologies, hope it doesn’t happen again. For me; it’s all very confusing and unnecessarily complicated. Plainly I don’t know how to return my comments to you, I’m very sorry. Hopefully I’ve succeeded this time. If not please feel free to give me another telling off :-) If you have a tutorial link I would be very grateful. Thank you for your patience. Hi Dodger67,

Baie Danke for taking the time to review my draft Wikpedia page submission for: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Heathmont_Bowls_Club

I have added independent references - book and newspaper articles - as recommended and cleaned it up with the kind assistance of Huon from the live help chat.

I have now resubmitted the page for re-review.

Many thanks for your time and assistance.

Lekker dag!

Dear reviewer, i will like you to point out the sources that were considered unreliable and also those that requires referencing / citation for easy fix . Thanks

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pacific Northwest oyster industry, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Shelton, Washington State and Siwash (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Housejoy Article

Hi, i've seen you have nominated my article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Housejoy"" for deletion on the grounds of notability and multiple refusals. Can you please define notability in your terms, since i've seen wiki articles with rather lesser citations or notability getting approved. I would request you to review and check the authority of the citations provided. The company has been funded by Amazon and ever since has been one of the biggest players in the home servicing market in India. Here are a number of notable mentions of the company in some of the biggest dailies and media houses of India (apart from the relevant citations supplied):

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/amazon-in-advanced-talks-to-buy-stake-in-home-services-company-housejoy/articleshow/49397892.cms http://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/ex-flipkart-exec-now-housejoy-ceo-115091800840_1.html http://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/housejoy-taps-background-verification-firm-betterplace-115120100336_1.html http://www.thehindu.com/features/metroplus/beauty-services-at-your-doorstep/article8580649.ece http://techcircle.vccircle.com/2016/03/10/managing-unit-economics-in-laundry-is-a-challenge-says-housejoys-chatterjee/ http://www.deccanchronicle.com/lifestyle/viral-and-trending/090516/watch-indian-single-mothers-share-about-their-struggles-of-raising-kids-alone.html http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/specials/emerging-entrepreneurs/amazon-others-invest-in-housejoy/article8037477.ece http://www.thehansindia.com/posts/index/Business/2016-01-30/Housejoy-forays-into-Hyderabad/203612 http://www.sportskeeda.com/cricket/video-who-says-cricket-is-just-a-boys-game

I have kept my article short and have provided relevant links to justify the information provided. I can provide hundreds and thousands of references to the article, but I've tried keeping it crisp with notable mentions (which are NOT PR EXERCISES). I have been creating and editing wiki articles since a very long time from various accounts, but this is the very first time i've seen editors failing to provide a proper justification for rejecting an article. I think the unapprovals are biased and are ONLY DEPENDENT ON THE REVIEW HISTORY. Care to read the article and the citations offered? would be of great help!

If you still think the company isn't noteworthy or the article needs deletion, then hopefully you should also consider the deletion of following articles which in my opinion aren't as good as the article in question. :

Re: Ruth Wolff "stub" Proposal

Dear Roger (Dodger67):

After almost a year of unsuccessfully attempting to convert my mid-twentieth century mind-set into something capable of mastering the language and technique for formatting (footnoting?) my 8 July 2015 Ruth Wolff proposal, I have reached the sad conclusion that I am more of a hindrance than a help toward achieving this goal.

On 20 February 2016, I suggested that perhaps, in collaboration with a more internet-savvy -- possibly somewhat less superannuated -- Wikipedian, a "stub" might be created to which I might more confidently be able to contribute documentation without fear of cancelling out all previous efforts.

Since then I have gone well beyond the customary internet searches to peruse the individual published plays as well as the two-volume collection and to visit Wolff's archive at the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts in NYC. While there, I was permitted to examine original manuscripts, reviews and press clippings as well as monitor a live-taped performance of the 2003 New York revival of EMPRESS OF CHINA. I have also viewed the recently released DVD of the Warner Bros. film of THE ABDICATION and searched foreign sites for stage productions abroad including Italy, the Netherlands, England, Canada and Australia. As a result, I have accumulated numerous specific references to reinforce all aspect of the original proposal. For example:

THE ABDICATION play and film: Ford, Elizabeth A. and Deborah C. Mitchell. Royal Portraits in Hollywood. University Press of Kentucky, 2009, pp. 23-33

ESSAYS: "Innocents Abroad" New York Times, 1 May 1988, Sunday Travel Section, p.43 "We Open in Florence" New York Times Magazine, 4 December 1977, p.50, etc.

The above are just a sampling of the references that I might be able to supply to someone capable of formatting a "stub." Should there be someone out there willing to partner with me to complement my technical shortcomings, perhaps, at long last, a long-overdue entry to replace "containing Ruth Wolff" might finally be achieved.

Many thanks in advance for any further thoughts or insights you might have. Please know that I am appreciative of all you have done over the past months to guide and advance this proposal.

In gratitude,

Thank you for your guidance as this is my first submission. I have used independent, reliable, published sources to obtain the facts. Please could you show me an example of particular sentences or passages in my submission and how it might be rewritten so that i can use those examples in editing my draft. I would very much appreciate additional guidance. Thank you for your help.

History 1 (talk) 13:23, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi History 1, I strongly recommend that you take advice from the topic speciatists at the Military history WikiProject. The experienced editors there will be able to assist you to get the draft into shape. It is indeed well sourced, my principal concern is the tone, it "praises" the subject a bit too much. On Wikipedia we try to write as neutrally as possible about all subjects, using the same "dry" neutrally descriptive language in Usama bin Laden, Josef Stalin, George Washington, Mao Zhedong, Winston Churchill or Jeffrey Dahmer. I'm not a specialist as military biography so the WikiProject is the best place to get the help you need. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 15:55, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dodger67, I submitted the only the lead paragraph because a person in the tearoom suggested the lead paragraph could stand on its own. So I thought perhaps it could be a stand alone entry while I prepared the remainder. Most of all, I was hoping feedback could on the lead could guide with the remainder of the article. Did you detect any issues with the lead paragraph that I should keep in mind before resubmitting? CarrieCarrieruggieri (talk) 15:12, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carrieruggieri, I see what you mean. I strongly reccomend that we withdraw this draft from the AFC process because the AFC workflow is really not suited to the way you propose working on this article. I have time over the next weeks to assist you quite intensively to get this article done (if we even need that long). We can also rope in some assistance from WikiProject Psychology as and when needed. If you think my proposal is a good one just let me know and I will do what's needed to clear it out of AFC. Hi Asianetrbrshow, you have hidden the article text so that it could not be seen by readers. You did the same thing with your post here too. Please never use <!-- Hidden text --> for anything that must actually bee seen by readers. Your draft has several serious problems: Firstly you have provided no references, that means you have not even proven that it really exists! See the Referencing for beginners guide. Secondly you have not mentioned in what country is it made and broadcast and what broadcaster(s) and channel(s) show it? That is essential basic information. The article Teletubbies is a reasonable example to follow for the structure of the article, though we don't expect new articles to be as long and comprehensive as that one. Hi, i am new to wikipedia, i wanted to add a page about a company which was established a few years back. I heard about the company a few months back on my visit to Chandigarh IT park. I visited their office and i felt good about the startup culture being penetrating in India. And then I thought it should be on wikipedia. Could you please let me know about the improvements to be made, so that it will not get declined again?

thanks

ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ellenfan/sandbox

Hi Ellenfan, this is why creating an article based on how one feels about a subject is a really bad idea. An article is only sustainable if independent and RS|reliable sources such as mainstream news and magazine articles, that discuss the subject in significant depth, can be found. If the company has never received substantial media coverage it is simply not (yet) sufficiently notable for an article here. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:23, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ballistic Advantage page

Hello Dodger67, I'm having a little trouble after several tries. I think I write pretty well but the encyclopedia type wording has got me a little frustrated. I added some dates and tried to remove our company name where I thought it was to much. I feel like my sources are pretty broad and respectable like "guns and ammo" etc... Is my rejection just on my non encyclopedia type wording? and do you have any other suggestions that might help? I do feel strongly that my company is worth listing due to the many improvements mainly the Hanson barrel has brought to the AR-15 market.

I really appreciate you input thanks

Esteemed Sir, I am a native of Odisha state in India. I have been editing a book regarding various aspects of Odisha. The book named 'Odisha Reference Yearbook' published by BK Publications Pvt. Ltd. Bhubaneswar, Odisha. I have mentioned about the sent topic in the issue. Being a permanent resident and native Odia i feel the age-old institutions called 'Bhagabata Tungi' has lost its existence due to invasion of modern life style. However, such institutions have powerful influencing quality for the society. Such institutions help build a disciplined and ethical Odia society. SO in the larger interest of my state i penned down my feelings on it. I did not resort to any references as it was not necessary. It is my original creation and hope you will be judicious enough to include my personal views on a dying social organisation in this part of the world. Sangram

review on draft:AGA

Dear Dodge67,

Thank you for your review. Next time I will be more aware and i noted the errors. I also had the privilege of working with a local wikipedia volunteer. I have added more secondary sources and referenced them at most places where they were fitting to substantiate the primary source. I would appreciate your feedback if I met the standard now. I really struggled to find some secondary sources on certain topics and so either cut the information or referenced the original charters and regulations as this is what this African Union organ is based on. I was told in the online chat with volunteers that charters are also considered primary sources. Which I am struggling with because this is an offically mandated organ of the African Union and is based on clear sets of rules signed by up to 20 member states and thus notable. This is proven by the charters themselves. Hence I hope that this supports the argument. The AGA platform is no different to the European Union structures that exist and officially sanctioned by state parties. I look forward to your input and thank you for taking your time to look at my first article. Haukezie--Hauke-zie (talk) 12:00, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rules to Give By

Hi there,

A couple of years ago I helped to write a report called Rules to Give By which contained an interesting index on the legal infrastructure for philanthropy. I recently stumbled across a draft Wikipedia page for it which I believe (I am pretty new to Wikipedia) you declined https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Rules_to_Give_By_Index

Firstly, I do agree with all of your objections. The lack of external links was problematic. I have inserted a few. Also, though a contributor to the report, I also thought including some criticism was worthwhile. Finally, I have added a little more detail about the methodology and the findings.

Do you think that this solves the issues?

Best,

I've submitted a new version of my page on Vajrasati yoga but inexplicably (to me anyway) I can't get some of the refs to display whilst others, following the same convention, do display-please could you advise? Furthermore some of the page's formatting looks a little awry, what have I/ haven't I done? Lastly, anything further I need to do to prepare the page for publication, please let me know. I am happy to comply :-) Thanks, Ali — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrAliMcCall (talkcontribs) 10:48, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps

Your tag for speedy deletion was acted on before it could be contested.

Every currently active competitive junior drum and bugle corps in the U.S. and Canada is and has been included in the Wikipedia. After the activity was devastated by the economic crash of 2007-08, the mere existence of any new Drum corps is, in and of itself, notable to the hundreds of thousands of attendees at drum corps competitions.

Is there some reason you targeted this particular corps and none of the many others? GWFrog (talk) 15:51, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's on my watchlist because I previously reviewed it at AFC. You put it into mainspace while it still had not even one WP:INDEPENDENT reference and when I searched I couldn't find any either. The fundamental problem is that apparently not even a single one of the "hundreds of thousands of attendees" has ever written a single article about it in a mainstream newspaper or magazine. You really need to read and understand the WP:NOTABILITY policy, because contrary to what you claim above, the mere fact of existence is not a sufficient qualification for an article in the English Wikipedia. 17:17:06, 13 June 2016 review of submission by KabukiJones

Hello. I would like to request re-consideration for this article. Chacon Autos is one of the longest operating dealerships in North Texas. Many of its locations have become city fixtures. Plus it is in the top 100 privately held businesses in the state. I feel like there is historical interest in Chacon among other businesses in the state. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi KabukiJones, you first need to fix all the broken references, then resubmit it for another review. If you need technical assistance you can request it at the WP:Teahouse. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:51, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

19:41:32, 13 June 2016 review of submission by Rdellbillings

Hi. Thanks for assisting. I am requesting a re-review because I have included reliable sources, either as footnotes or as internal and external URL links. Please let me know if there are others actions I must take for this submission to be accepted. Also, I am trying to learn how to upload the logo for the Generic Pharmaceutical Association Wikipedia page when accepted. Thank you. Bob

Hi Rdellbillings, I have fixed the references and links - we never use external links embedded in the article text. The major problem is that you still don't have independent media sources such as newspaper or magazine articles that discuss the organization in substantial detail - that excludes press releases or "routine" trade magazine coverage. Article on Arter

Hi Dodger67

I edited the article for Arter by putting extra references. Could you please review it and let me know if there is any additional info I should write?

Thanks, chorasophiaChorasophia (talk) 11:44, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chorasophia, I see you've added many references, but there is one thing you can do while waiting for the next review, the list of exhibitions is in reversed order, please sort them into correct chronological order - oldest-to-recent. You could also trim the list down to only those that received substantial press coverage - and then reference the critics' articles. You can also get more specialist advice from WT:WikiProject Visual arts. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:08, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dodger thanks for the prompt reply. I'll do the chronological order as you suggested. I also wanted to ask about creating the actual Arter article because articles with the same name already exist. When I search Arter on wikipedia I'm directed to a page for Arter as surname. If you could help out it would be great. chorasophia Chorasophia (talk) 12:21, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Chorasophia, don't worry about the article title, the reviewer who accepts the draft will see to the correct WP:Disambiguation. The article will probably end up at "Arter (gallery)" or something similar, and it will be added to the list at Arter so that readers can find it easily. (BTW if you are in Turkey I believe we may be in the same (or adjacent) time zone as I'm in South Africa. The interwebz is magic!) Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:40, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Roger, Thank you for your help! I am actually transferring the material from French and Polish Wikipedia where the two articles already exist. The problem I have is with multi-lingual syntax. Request on 22:27:14, 18 June 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Wendyeb

Wendy Burton 22:27, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

I am seeking assistance with references. I know I am unfamiliar with the wikipedia formatting, and I am working on that.

However, the feedback also says the sources are not "reliable". I have two scholarly sources. Wendy Burton 22:27, 18 June 2016 (UTC)I also have several references to publications to do with reviews and comments from critics to do with Lion's productions. These are not entertainment magazines; they are reputable theatre publications. I do not understand why these are not considered reliable.

Hi Wendyeb, basically the problem is that most of your references are far too vague and missing detail to be of any use at all - Author, Unnamed (November 19, 1976). "Evening Herald". - means almost nothing at all. The only actually useful bit of information there is the date. There are dozens of newspapers in the world called the "Evening Herald" - which one is this, give the city of publication. What is the title of the article? What page is it on? If there is no named author simply leave it out, don't clutter the citation with a meaningless "Author unnamed". A reader must be able to go to a library and request the exact article with the information given in the reference. Please see the Referencing for beginners guide for more detail. using the citation tool will make it a lot easier. Hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:34, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am adding the required information. I have read the Citation for Beginners, and used the Citation template. Doing so has lead me to more format errors, which I am correcting. I am concerned about the statement the references are unreliable. Are they unreliable because I have not added the required information, or is there a bigger problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wendyeb (talkcontribs) 05:48, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know you must be busy, so if this request is off-base, please let me know. Can you have a look at my Eugene Lion entry and tell me if it is improving? I don't want to re-submit it if I am still way off. The references to mentions in theatre reviews are mostly unsigned, and no page number was given (they are clippings). I will continue to work on finding the complete references, but I am still concerned that there may be a larger problem with the kinds of references I am using. Wendy Burton (talk) 06:11, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wendy Burton, if you don't have the page numbers the article titles will probably be sufficient - please add them. Stop being so stingy with the details :) One of the references - Lechay, Jo (June 21, 2016). "Personal Conversation" - has no publication information. If it means an actual conversation between yourself and Lechay I'm afraid you can't use it, all sources must be verifiable. Hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:56, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

16:59:16, 21 June 2016 review of submission by JeffreyWalkowiak

Hi Roger, our page was first rejected for having external links. We used links in the article for reference material, but deleted them in order for our page to submit. Are external links the footnotes or links within the article. Are there certain links that cannot be added to an article? Thanks

Hi JeffreyWalkowiak this is really about three very different types of links. Links that go to other Wikipedia pages, called [WP:Wikilink|Wikilinks]] are required to be in the article. External links, that go outside Wikipedia, may not be embedded in the article text, but certain external links can be added to a specific External links list that comes after the References list. Which bring us to the part that you most urgently need to read, the Referencing for beginners guide - but do also read the Wikilinks and External links pages. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:20, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your next review says our links are not reliable. Which of these links are not reliable and are any actually reliable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JeffreyWalkowiak (talkcontribs) 17:53, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@JeffreyWalkowiak, I've only reviewed it once, when it had no links at all. But, and this is VERY important, links and references are not the same thing, please get that distinction very clear. A reference may contain a link, but a link itself is not a reference. Please read the guides I have told you about above and do not resubmit it for another review before you have made a real attempt to fix the issue. If you need further help I recommend the WP:TEAHOUSE, as I'm going to bed soon. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:30, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again JeffreyWalkowiak, I took a look at what you did while I was sleeping then I fixed up a few errors. In the last section where you mention publications such as the New York Times, Architechtural Digest and others, try to add at least one reference to each mention. There are also a few instances of promotional language that should be fixed. Words such as "distinct", "unique", "dynamic", etc cannot be used in Wikipedia's voice - all such evaluative language must be sourced - who called it "unique" or "dynamic"? The rule-of-thumb is that adjectives need sources or must be removed. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:55, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dodger67. I was recently going through and welcoming new users. Wendyeb, whose AfC you recently reviewed, left a message on my talk page asking for feedback. 03:39:23, 29 June 2016 review of submission by Nihon-no-budo

I have updated the article with two third-party sources, a martial arts journal that covered an exhibition by this school of swordsmanship in Tokyo and a newspaper article that covered a visit to New Jersey by the system's headmaster. I hope these two sources are sufficient. I also updated a couple of sources with the appropriate headings, I noticed that a couple of the titles had errors. Please advise as to anything else I can do to make sure this article is approved for submission. It is a rare system but still note worthy to the development and history of Japanese martial arts.

Thank you for your consideration.

By the way, I noticed that the parent school to this system hardly had any verifiable sources (below is the link). Could you please tell me what makes their article different than mine? Why is mine being held to a different standard when it has verifiable sources in English unlike theirs?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenshinsho_Jigen_Ryu

Sorry for all the questions, but I am quite new to all this. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Nihon-no-budo, I'm glad you found a few more good sources. About the Tenshinsho Jigen Ryu article, the fact that it has no sources in English is of no significance at all as the policy here is to accept reliable sources in any language. I see it was created in 2010 and the last significant edits were in 2014, so it may well be due for a revision. The standards for articles are constantly evolving, what was accepted years ago might not be good enough today. If you need more specific advice about your draft or the other article I recommend you ask at WP:WikiProject Martial arts, that's where you'll find the topic specialists. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:48, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dodger67, Thank you so much for your quick response and suggestions. I've connected with a few people at WP:WikiProject Martial arts and they have been a big help. I hope that my next try will go a bit better. Nihon-no-budo (talk) 19:00, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
He was in contact with me (I wanted to see what discussion if any you had with Nihon about the reversion to draft). I gave a few suggestions about how to show notability and breadth of references and I think he has met the requirements. That was why I did not have any issues with his moving to Draft (something I have seen many others do after being declined without issue). I am surprised that it was moved back. For the martial arts project the most important consideration for schools of martial arts is breadth of distribution and frankly age. As I understand it this one goes back about 50 years even though the current name is more recent. Out of habit/choice I stay away from the AfC process - usually coming in after the article gets to article space.Peter Rehse (talk) 22:56, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lotus Press

I'm writing you in response to the decline Lotus Press by Naomi Long Madgett. I just started this as a draft and perhaps I did the wrong thing.

What is this WP:Independant|Independant for? She is very prominent and has been a publisher in literary world since 1972 in Detroit. Google Search her she is Detroit Poet Laureate http://www.ncte.org/magazine/archives/106995 she's really amazing and I feel she deserves to have a Wikipedia page for her Lotus Press because broadside press has one and they just merged which is really notable and historic.

I'm still working on it make it better, thank-you for the suggestions they are appreciated.

This is a table and the content is self-explanatory. It is like a table of movie appearances or stage appearances and should just follow those on the page.

Hi User:Naj619 Nothing is "self explanatory". You need to, at the very least, explain that it is a list of appearances of what/who? ALL articles are required to have a proper WP:LEAD - in this case a sentence or two will probably be sufficient. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:47, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How would I cite bio information received directly from the source herself?

Hi User:Vemile18 you can't use any information given to you by the subject, only published sources can be used - see WP:Verifiability.
It is far easier to write an article about a subject you know nothing about, actually talking to your subject is almost a guarateed way to fail. If you write about someone or something you've never heard of before it forces you to use only the sources you can find. Most of the articles I've started are like that, I knew nothing about the subject before I started. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:33, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have updated the article as requested, adding independent references for notability. The MPS is one of the leaders among state psychiatric organizations, and I've found a number of red links to MPS that could be fixed with an article about the organization.

Much thanks for a second review. Drdaviss (talk) 03:48, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drdaviss - if you expand references 2, 5 & 7 it would be very helpful. Add at least the authors and article titles. In the case of journal articles also include index codes such as PMID or DOI. You could use cite templates to make it easier; {{cite news}} and {{cite journal}}. They give you a "fill out the form" that's quite easy to use, or you can use one of the recognized academic citation methods such as APA, MLA, etc. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:46, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Roger (Dodger67), thanks for the tips on {{cite news}} and {{cite journal}}. Very helpful. I have formatted the requested citations. Drdaviss (talk) 13:10, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Roger (Dodger67), BTW, I notice the instructions to place new text below old, though I see people doing new comments on top, also. What is the preferred culture here? I appreciate your anticipated re-review to pull Draft:Maryland Psychiatric Society out of Drafts. Drdaviss (talk) 13:38, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drdaviss, bottom posting is the standard, unfortunately the Teahouse, for some reason that I don't understand, is the sole exception that uses top posting of topics, but still uses bottom posting within a topic.
I will not be doing the next review. The generally accepted good practice at AFC is to avoid having the same reviewer returning to a draft. Doing so risks having that reviewer's personal biases affect the content of the draft. I've also done so much work on the draft that I'm no longer a "neutral reviewer", so you'll be getting a fresh opinion from someone else. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:36, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Roger (Dodger67), thanks for tip on top/bottom posting, and for explaining the AFC procedure for subsequent reviews. Makes sense to me. Drdaviss (talk) 14:27, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have submitted a table (and a description of the table as requested) that I wanted to be added to Leslie Howard's Wikipedia page. Naj619 (talk) 15:51, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to add something to an existing article, all you have to do is add it to the article. If you want to get opinions and approval for a big change, you should use the talk page of the article (in this case Talk:Leslie Howard (actor). In this particular instance, I would put something along the lines of "Hi, I made a table of radio appearances for Howard, it's at my sandbox" and you would add a wikilink to your sandbox with the table. People will (hopefully) give feedback and you can add it to the article without issue. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 16:04, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Template:Z163[reply]

How the subject's material is available is not indicative of his notability in this case. But the article does indicate there was a physical release of his material on an independent Label. We've hired someone to rewrite it according to wikipedia standards, got approved and then got deleted. We would like to know why?

Hi Tarektaha70 It took me a while to figure out what happened. The person you hired to write the article was previously banned from editing, so the rules required that everything he/she did after the ban had to be deleted. That's just one of the risks of using a paid editor, for a variety of reasons it's a really bad idea to hire a writer. However the draft that you created still exists at Draft:THE GrEEK CAMPUS, so you can continue working on it there and resubmit when you're ready for another review. Oops

Another edit conflict on AFC submissions, and hidden text concealing an ad. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:45, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Robert McClenon - They sometimes break the closing markup "-->" of the "Edit below this line" instruction, then everything after that point gets hidden. When I get a "blank" submission, I quickly check in "Edit" to see if it's really blank, just takes a second or three. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:10, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I thought that I had done an edit and had seen nothing, but I might have been mistaken. Anyway, if everything is hidden, then the content makes no difference unless it is a hidden copyright violation or hidden attack page. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:55, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Or if it is acceptable, or has minor issues that need to be pointed out, or... We need to review the submitted draft, not penalize newbies for simple errors such a breaking a hidden note markup. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:01, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

HMS Vautour (1810)

Thanks dodger for the spectacularly fast tidying of my HMS Vautour (1810): I'm new & thought I'd have days or weeks to sort it out, so I was just typing a note to the teahouse for advice about what to do with that deleted section on 'Other ships of the same name'

You say "This is irrelevant, that's why the page linked in the hatnote exists", which is fair enough

I see the hatnote Vautour disambiguation page already has one mention of a French sloop called Vautour, but it is linked to a non-existant wikipage (& has no source ref). Should I do the same? I think I shouldn't add external ref links to a disambiguation page?

The 9 other ships called Vautour only have a single line each with a ref link, so I'm sure aren't worthy of 9 wikipages.

Thanks, I've used my new word hatnote to look-up wiki advise, but am still little the wiser on this.

Happy to try the teahouse about where I can park that section, if you're busy on your valuable tidying-up work — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geoff soper (talkcontribs) 20:26, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geoff soper, for now just "park" that list in a sandbox under your username. Besides WP:Hatnote you'd do well to read WP:Disambiguation and WP:Redlink. Please take all the time you need, there is no WP:Deadline. The (really) short version is; each articly must be about only one specific subject, disambiguation lists may contain only links to existing articles (so please add the new article to the list) and redlinks (links that go nowhere) are a good thing if an article about the topic should exist - but redlinks may not be included in disambiguation pages.
I cleaned up the article and accepted it quickly because the moment I saw it I knew "this is a good one - this editor knows how to write!" and it could come out of the backlog at AFC easily. (AFC currently has a big backlog, getting the easy "accepts" out of the queue asap is a priority) The fixes I did were easy and quite minor - when you've been here as long as I have you'll also find it easy.
So, what do you want to do next? If naval history is a particular interest you should take a look around WikiProject Ships and WikiProject Military history (but this one is huge, one can wander around there for days and still not see it all). WP:WIKIPROJECTS are the "clubhouses" for editors interested in particular topics (or certain functions at Wikipedia), entrance is free and you're encouraged to join. Finally a warning - Wikipedia editing is addictive! :) Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:13, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Price (talk) 22:03, 10 July 2016 (UTC)I believe I have addressed your concerns.[reply]

Hi Lee Price, you've written a pretty good intro, it's clear, to the point and tells the reader immediately why the article exists on WP. I subdivided the "block of text" into topic headings (per the manual of style for biographies (WP:MOSBIO) and did a few other minor fixes. Good luck with your next review, just click the blue button when you're ready. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:33, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Hedy Habra

Hi! I have an interview with Hedy Habra as well as an anthology she was featured in, I am not sure how to include these in my article that was rejected. Would this indicate notability?

https://geosireads.wordpress.com/2015/07/17/interview-with-hedy-habra-author-of-tea-in-heliopolis/

Poetryedit (talk) 22:26, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Poetryedit, actually those would do nothing to evidence her notability. Wikipedia does not care much about what the subject, or the subject's friends, colleagues, agents, promoters, or any other related people have to say. What we need are entirely independent sources such as mainstream news or professional critics and academics. Take a look at this news search and this academic search they probably have some good sources that you can use. Hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 22:41, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Poetryedit, the search links are broken, I'll find out how to fix them and get back to you asap. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 22:57, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Poetryedit - the search links are fixed. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 23:31, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
would you be able to take a look at the links I added? if they are not sufficent, thanks for your help and I've learned for the future! Poetryedit (talk)
@Poetryedit You're getting there, but I can see a few improvements: your reference 3 about the book award is published by WMU, her employer, so it's not independent. Rather look for a newspaper or literary magazine report about the award. BTW the article doesn't mention that she teaches at MWU, you could add her move to the US and her career as an academic. Reference 5 is also not independent - it's from the website of the organization that gave the award - again try to replace it with a news or magazine source. Improving these two will get the article acceptable - though nowhere near complete of course! I see you haven't yet dug into the more academically oriented sources that discuss and analyze her work - that's a whole lot of material for expanding the article. What about her work in other languages? (BTW you missed English in the list of languages she works in.) You can also get more subject-specific advice at WP:WikiProject Poetry. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:03, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So I have dipped into academic sources, she happens to be the author of all of the articles written when you search for her. I found one where she isn't but she is only mentioned once. It's unfortunate but after your suggestions and my subsequent research, I don't believe she is notable enough. Poetryedit (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:19, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Speedy deletion of Draft for Lincoln Memorial at Waterfront Park

You are right, Dodger67. Thank you for calling attention to my error. Sorry for my mixup, and please do whatever is needed to put the draft in the correct place for review. I am confused about the process. Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 04:01, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OP.GG Page

Hello Dodger67,

First off, thanks for the quick response! I didn't expect the page to go under review so quickly.

I agree with the comments you made regarding user manual content; I guess I wrote the page from a gamer's perspective without taking into account that the everyday user might not be familiar with or even interested in that content. I cut out most of the material and consolidated a bit to make it more streamlined.

I've submitted the revision for now, but am considering making another edit soon to put each respective service/game introduction under the "Games" heading, and then consolidate the "Database" descriptions under a separate "Features" heading since the main features of each service are common across the board. (Sorry that might be a bit vague through text, but I'll play around with it and see how it works).

Thanks again for all of your help!

Hi LaurentHouseDuelist, I think you should ask the topic specialists at WP:WikiProject Video games for assistance. The folks there are far more familiar with the topic than I am, they would be able to guide you better. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:10, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am confused why the ALE page was refused for sounding like a marketing advertisement. It has facts such as company history, company location, number of employees and offices, members of the executive team, product information, industry segments, industry awards and partnerships.

This is all factual information. I most of my references were 3rd party publications.

Please let me know what information was "marketing related" and I will remove it. I am not a marketeer, and want to just focus on the facts.

Yours respectfully. 19oink (talk) 02:14, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 19oink, it's the lists. Lists of products, awards and executives are very "company brochure"-like content. There's a big difference between "factual" and "relevant to an encyclopedic article". Concentrate on the history of the company, the financial and business media should have good articles. Try this thought experiment - what would a historian in 2167 want to know about the company - long after it has dissapeared? Would the fact that Joe Blogs was the CEO for a few years in the early 21st century really matter? Or would the historian rather like to know trends in the company turnover and profitability over time? Hope this helps Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:20, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply I'm really new to this site and am not very proficient at all at using it either. I would not have a clue where to go to discuss why a page deserves to be up and how the information from 2014 has changed and to suggest comparables. It's out of my league. I shall leave it for someone else to suggest. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by B3rnad3tt3c (talkcontribs) 16:02, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy tag at Tiarnie Coupland

I've removed the speedy tag at Tiarnie Coupland. Draft:Tiarnie Coupland isn't ready for prime time and has not demonstrated notability required to supersede the prior AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tiarnie Coupland. That AfD concluded to redirect to Worst Year of My Life Again. We have to consider what work she's done since then, and there isn't anything of note yet. Since that work, she's done a short film, appeared 4 times as a recurring character in another series (which does not count as "significant"; it's not a lead role, primary cast, etc.), and acted in two upcoming films. Note that neither film is a major film, with at least Killing Field being a low budget affair. I'm not averse to starting a new article on her, but we really need to establish notability, especially in light of the prior AfD. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:24, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hammersoft, thanks for pointing out the AFD, I have explained the issue to the draft writer. There's just one thing I need to help you with. In the edit summary you left when you removed the speedy you said "AFC not approved yet". I'm afraid you misunderstand how an Accept at AFC works. The act of "approving" a draft is by moving it to mainspace. If moving it is blocked by a redirect it means the acceptance cannot be done. There is no sign of approval before the move itself has happened. In this particular case the previous AFD has changed the decision, but usually when an AFC reviewer puts a "db-move" tag on a redirect with an explanation that it needs to be deleted to allow a draft to be moved, that in itself means the reviewer wants to accept the draft. Edwin Fadiman Jr

Hi Dodger;

Thanks for reviewing my submission on the author Edwin Fadiman Jr.

I have sourced each novel with a link to the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries.

Is there anything else you would suggest that I do before resubmitting?

Thanks for your help.

Ruggerson

Ruggerson (talk) 17:19, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ruggerson, we need sources that discuss Fadiman himself and his work in significant depth. Merely proving the existence of the books is actually of very little consequence. You need to find sources such as book reviews in mainstream media, newspaper or magazine articles that actually say something significant about Fadiman. (By the way, when you cite a book, please cite the book itself directly, not the Google Books page about the book. The {{cite book}} template is an easy way to do it.) You mention his birth and death dates but you don't reference a source - how do you actually know those dates? You also mention colleges where he was educated, where did you get that information? If possible please add dates for when he was at those colleges and tell what course/degree he did. Where was he born, where did he die, was he ever married, did he have any other occupation besides writing? Try to find such informstion, and then reference the sources. 10:33:41, 17 July 2016 review of submission by NNcNannara

I would like to reform your IT sections. I have a 1st Class Honours in Mathematics, and thirty years experience in programming. I have invented AVL Trees in C#, C++ and Java. I have many classes I can assist you with, including Sets, Multisets, Trees, MultiTrees, Maps, MultiMaps, Dictionaries, HashSets, UnorderedSets, HashTables and UnorderedTrees. I have all of these in 3 or 4 languages. The idea is to get the basic code online and build the description pages around them. The most basic class of AVL Tree theory is Set. This is the class that is present in the code that I presented to you.

I am quite happy to put a very lengthy description in and it is already contained on the referenced website. Would that make you happy - or are you going to reject it no matter what. I need to know so as not to waste any further time.

Consider the class Map for instance, it would be nice to put the code for Map in without having to go through the whole AVL Balancing act again (just reference a central version). This suggests a different organisation of pages than what you are used to. To map a .Net assembly into Wiki you are likely to create many pages and cross reference them. This would build like an educational or reference version of the actual code, with descriptions thrown in.

The Rosetta Code approaches this idea in a different context. There they support as many languages as possible. You guys are stuck back in the dark ages with dated pseudo code - which is pretty much useless. So this submission is primary and unashamebly actual code. And that's what I want to know from you Roger, do you ultimately have a problem with actual code. Because if you do, I am wasting my time. NNcNannara (talk) 10:45, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NNcNannara, welcome to Wikipedia. A brief description, to elucidate the significance of the example code, summarized from the source website(s) would indeed be most welcome. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is a general encyclopedia, not a graduate level programming textbook, so the vast majority of readers have only a rudimentary understanding of the topic. A good introduction would give even a reader with no knowlege of the particular subject a reasonable understand of what the article is about. Wikipedia articles are generally aimed at the "high school graduate" level, or a little above that for complex topics. I'd really strongly suggest that you discuss your ideas at WT:WikiProject Computing, that's where your fellow topic specialist editors can be found. 14:59:21, 17 July 2016 review of submission by NNcNannara

I plugged in the whole shooting match as far as code and explanation is concerned. This provides the context that you requested. It remains to be seen if you knock it off because it has C# code in it.

Note that the # was stripped out of the title. It should be "AVL Trees in CSharp". Can you rename it for me - assuming you don't knock it on the head. I can do Native C++, Managed C++ and Java articles too. Each article is a night's work.

Hi again User:NNcNannara, I did some searching about the title issue. There's a brief explanation at WP:NCHASHTAG that the # character cannot be used in page titles because it conflicts with html and wiki-markup. A few alternatives are suggested. You still need to add some sources that verify the article content, I think a brief list of relevant manuals or textbooks would probably be sufficient. Tetradecagon submission for review

I see your currently reviewing tetradecagon (currently User:Hellkixy/sandbox). Can you move it to Draft:Tetradecagon (video games)? thanks. It was moved to Draft:Tetradecagon (video games) Hellkixy (talk) 21:46, 20 July 2016 (UTC)hellkixy[reply]

I know it was moved (incorrectly btw) right in the middle of the review process. I had to start over from scratch. While a draft is tagged "under review" please don't touch it, don't even change a comma during the review. It's done now. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:58, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Contests

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:15, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
