What to do about an argument on My talk page

A user and an IP are having a extension of a fight from Jman's talk page on my talk page, and I'm not sure what to do about it. What happened is: I am RCPing, and end up comign across Jman's talk page, where he/she/it and the IP are having a shouting/flipping match. I leave a short note reminding them of civility, and leave a not on the IP's talk page, because they had crossed WP:CIVIL. So the IP comes to my talk page, and leaves the comment which heads that section. Some time later, Jman finds it and replies, and then a week or so later the IP comes and that is how it has been. I don't really mind them having the conversation here, it easier to monitor it incase policies are starting to be broken, rather than having to track it down on Wikipedia to monitor the fight. However, I don't have enough experience with this kind of Issue, and don't know if there is something that I should be doing about it, rather than sitting back and watching. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:L3X1#Regarding_message_about_civility Thanks. L3X1 My Complaint Desk 00:44, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the short message I left should suffice. Feel free to revert anything else that they add, and since they're both disrupting you and violating NPA, you might do best to report them to WP:ANI if they keep it up. Nyttend (talk) 02:24, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    WikiProject question

What power does a Wiki{roject have? I edit mixed martial arts biographies and I see a few pages that are in violation of the guidelines of [WP:MMA]] as it pertains to notability. Do these projects rules enforceable or are they merely suggestions? If they are enforceable, how would one go about getting a biography deleted if it doesn't meet the WikiProject's notability standards? TBMNY (talk) 05:50, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, TBMNY. Take a close look at the box which is at the top of WP:MMANOT - it specifies that it is an essay with the opinions of several editors, not a formal Wikipedia policy or guideline. It won't be definitive in a deletion discussion, but it should be useful as a guide. The way to propose an MMA article for deletion is the same as any other: normally the "Articles for Deletion" process (which is easier if you use WP:Twinkle), or for very clear-cut cases where there is no claim of significance you could use Speedy Deletion. --Gronk Oz (talk) 07:52, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Officially, WikiProjects have no power at all, and in particular WikiProject-edicted notability guidelines do not supersede WP:GNG. This being said, GNG is fairly vague, so the more specific project essays are usually what goes at AfD; not so much because the WikiProject owns the subject, but because there is a benefit to standardization and the WikiProject is trusted to draw the line in the grey area. Changing Trumps image

I'd like wikipedia to change the image shown for Donald Trump when you search for "Trump" on google chrome: https://www.google.com/search?q=trump&oq=trump&aqs=chrome..69i57j35i39j69i60l2j0j69i60.1486j0j4&client=ms-android-hms-tmobile-us&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

The pic shown is this: http://static4.businessinsider.com/image/56c640526e97c625048b822a-480/donald-trump.jpg

The pic is very unflattering and I would like it to be replaced with this pic from the wikipedia profile: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump#/media/File%3ADonald_Trump_official_portrait.jpg

I am a yearly contributor to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.189.253.33 (talk) 07:43, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Google uses an unflattering image from another site, rather than the one at the top of Wikipedia's Donald Trump article. I doubt anyone here knows why Google does this, and we certainly don't have any control over it. Maproom (talk) 08:04, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Dear contributor, The information on the top right of a google search is called the Knowledge Graph and is a part of google. Wikipedia cannot change this. However you can. On the bottom right of the knowledge graph is a feedback button. When you click "feedback" there is a little pencil on the image of Trump. Click this pencil to give feedback. Creating a page for actress Samantha Gracie

Can someone write the page for me on Samantha Gracie? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreegracie (talkcontribs) 10:38, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Someone (anyone) can, but only if Samantha Gracie meets the requirements for an encyclopedia article here. I appreciate that you have not tried tried it yourself, as apparently by your username, you have a conflict of interest, which can cause difficulties in writing an article with a neutral point of view. The basic qualification for an article to be included in Wikipedia is defined as "notability". Articles also must be supported by references to published reliable sources. Right now, Samantha might not clearly meet the "notability" requirements--it may be too soon for an article about her. If her career continues to flower, Wikipedia editors could create an article about her in the foreseeable future. DonFB (talk) 11:50, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Andreegracie You can request an article to be written here: Request Article. Experienced editors will do the research to see if there is enough to create an article based on reliable sources for notability. Best of luck! Maineartists (talk) 14:08, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading logo to our company description page

I wish to upload non-free logo of our company (we recently changed it) but can't do it because my account isn't confirmed. I do not wish to make changes on pages other than our company's. I also recently made changes on our company Wikipedia page and changes were soon after deleted. How do I prevent this in the future.

    Webnlb (talk) 13:27, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Webnlb please read and follow our guidance on conflict of interest and Paid editing - You should not be editing our page about your company, but you should suggesting changes, citing reliable sources, on the article's talk page.
I am not surprized your edits were reverted, and I have just reverted them again - your additions were entirely unsourced, whilst promotional puffery, such as "uniquely positioned and strategically focused" has no place in any of our articles. (Convenience link NLB Group)
If you can provide a link to a copy of your current logo, this can be uploaded for you - please make the request at Wikipedia:Files for upload - Arjayay (talk) 13:41, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Webnlb First of all: welcome to Wikipedia! and thank you for disclosing your connecting with your company. However, Wikipedia discourages those affiliated with article pages and their subjects with editing content; as this is seen as a "Conflict of Interest". You can read about this, here: WP:CONFLICT. Also, since you work for the company itself, it may also fall under "Paid Editing", here: WP:PAY. You can "disclose" your affiliation WP:DISCLOSE with this company, but your edits will be limited and closely monitored to adhere with the proper requirements of WP that compile with reliable sources and WP:NPOV. Your best bet is to simply make a request for what you feel is appropriate to the article on its "Talk Page" and let an editor that is not associated with the company add it; or consensus be drawn for it inclusion. These are all friendly suggestions going forward. Good luck! Don't be discouraged by some editors who like to "bite the newbies" with "US" vs "you". Nobody owns WP. All are welcome here; and I'm sure your edits were in "good faith". If you need more help, try the Teahouse here: [1] Maineartists (talk) 13:55, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    England_rock_music_group_navigational_boxes

A bot recently changed Category:English rock music group navigational boxes to Category:England_rock_music_group_navigational_boxes - I can't find the discussion of the change - can you help? Doesn't seem a proper change and I'd like to understand why it would be. --John (User:Jwy/talk) 15:58, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User @BrownHairedGirl: instigated the renames. From the entry in the history on WP:CFDS, it was part of a batch of 86 categories, it looks like the reason was to bring the country names in line with the normal ones used in the country parent categories. i.e. Use the country name not the nationality. I've pinged BrownHairedGirl so hopefully they'll reply here and correct me if I'm wrong - X201 (talk) 16:17, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) It was listed for two days at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy. See "Category:Music group navigational boxes by nationality to Category:Music group navigational boxes by country – C2C per parent Category:Music by country templates and the broader non-adjectival-countryname convention of Category:Country templates and its sub-cats." at [2]. See [3] for what the category displayed at the time. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:19, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Would be curious how you found that. I tried. The archives search didn't help. --John (User:Jwy/talk) 16:21, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy doesn't appear to be archived. We both examined the page history. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:26, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Bummer - so binary search through the history? okay. I'll continue discussion at User Talk:BrownHairedGirl. Thank you! --John (User:Jwy/talk) 16:34, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Journal image

Hey everybody, I found this image and I want to use it in an article on the society that issued the journal. Is that OK? Is that fair use? I know I can use it in an article on the journal, but that's not what I'm doing. Thanks! Michaelgav09 (talk) 16:19, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not, I'm afraid, Michaelgav09. The image is licensed under "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike", which is not acceptable to Wikipedia, because of the "NonCommercial" bit. So you could only use it under the WP:non-free content criteria; you would need to show it meets all the conditions, including condition 8:"Contextual significance: Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding", which seems a bit dubious to me in an article about the society. Others may disagree with me, however. --ColinFine (talk) 17:41, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, you're right. (To explain to the original poster, even though we are non-commercial, we require our material to be readily re-usable by for-profit entities.) I'm sure the image would make the article nicer-looking, but unfortunately that's not a valid fair use critera. For fair use, it has to tell us something useful about the entity, for example you would have to be able to include a caption like "This cover of New Jersey Folklife shows an example of the Society's obsession with rowboats [ref]", or something (even that might be marginal). Inaccurate Article Title

The Libraries Without Borders page incorrectly redirects to the Bibliothécaires Sans Frontières page, which, when directly translated means "Librarians Without Borders." Libraries Without Borders, Librarians Without Borders and Bibliothèques Sans Frontières are three separate entities. Moreover, the Bibliothécaires Sans Frontières page proceeds to refer to itself as Bibliothèques Sans Frontières, which contradicts its very own article title. I am interested in creating a separate Wikipedia page for Libraries Without Borders since it is in no way affiliated with Bibliothécaires (Librarians) Sans Frontières. Moreoever, it is a separate legal entity from Bibliothèques Sans Frontières. Please let me know how we can clarify this glaring error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katktrujillo (talkcontribs) 21:20, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Katktrujillo: you can go to Libraries Without Borders and star writing about that organization there (provided that the page will comply with our core content policies, such as notability and verifiability). I've fixed the problem at Bibliothécaires Sans Frontières. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 21:34, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Finnusertop thank you for the advice. The article title is still incorrect since the translation for Bibliothécaires is Librarians. Librarians without Borders is a separate organization than both Bibliothécaires Sans Frontières and Libraries Without Borders.

Katktrujillo, the problem is that at present we haven't an article about Libraries Without Borders; so unless somebody writes one, either the title has to redirect somewhere, or it should be deleted and not have an entry in Wikipedia at all. Finnusertop was suggesting that you write the article; but if that is not practical, and you think the error is so gross that "Libraries Without Borders" shouldn't be here, please make the argument for deleting the redirection at WP:Miscellany for Deletion. --ColinFine (talk) 23:54, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    Um, don't you mean Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion? Pppery 00:51, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Revert anything with a given set of words in the edit?

    Re: Sarah Paulson

Some lost soul seems to think that Paulson was in a relationship with Lily Rabe and to that end, they keep adding her name to the Paulson article. Is there any bot that will watch the article and revert edits that involve the words "Lily Rabe"? Or must the article be protected to prevent this? †dismas†|(talk) 23:03, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well it looks like just two edits. Its an IP. This kind of thing is pretty common. Just revert her. Quite possibly she's already gone away. If she continues, you can report her to WP:ANI and ask for that IP to be blocked for awhile. Herostratus (talk) 01:26, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest WP:AGF. Give a better edit summary in your reverts (ie: "Source needed" or somesuch), and add a note to User_talk:107.77.216.128 RudolfRed (talk) 01:40, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Two edits? This goes back to at least last year. †dismas†|(talk) 01:55, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhhh, OK. And different IPs... well that's different. OK, right, well as you said Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is the usual remedy. (Not familiar with Wikipedia:Edit filter so don't know if that's appropriate here; you could try.) Herostratus (talk) 02:23, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was told on the Edit Filter page that they don't protect just one article. It has to be a widespread type thing. I fully expected RPP to say that the vandalism wasn't often enough to warrant protection. But MusikAnimal has protected the page anyway. So, I guess I got what I was looking for... Thanks, everyone! †dismas†|(talk) 02:10, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Can I clear my sandbox?

I've just finished an article, When Jones' Ale was New on my sandbox and submitted it for review. Can I clear my sandbox and get on with my next article, or do I have to leave it there for a while? Joe Fogey (talk) 10:23, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Your draft is at Draft:When Jones' Ale was New, not yet at When Jones' Ale was New. Your sandbox contains a redirect to the draft, but you can clear that sandbox page and later (if you wish) reuse it for a new draft. You may find it easier to use a name other than "sandbox" for new user drafts. You could, for example, have called the previous one User:Joe Fogey/When Jones' Ale was New. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:40, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

However, before the requested edits can be made, we need to see the information published in a Reliable Source confirming that what you say is true, because we cannot be certain that the person posting this request is really Kuntaa Nikkil – can you give us a link to such a source? {The poster formerly known as 87.81 230.195} 90.203.118.169 (talk) 17:15, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wikipeople My social media presence is under a unique name that I devised - leedsface - it is always spelt totally in lower case, is it possible to amend my wikipedia user name and use the lower case "l" to begin the name, at the moment it reads "Leedsface", at odds with my presence across other platforms eg - www.leedsface.com , Twitter @leedsface FB page and large community group (currently 44,000 members and growing by 100 per day) as facebook/leedsface. I would appreciate your help. Glenn Simpson leedsface — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leedsface (talkcontribs) 18:13, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In short, no. The first letter is always capitalized. SeeWP:UPOL for info. - X201 (talk) 18:58, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you put {{lowercase title}} at the top of your user page & user talk page it will display with a lower case "l". --David Biddulph (talk) 19:11, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You could also customise your signature so that it appears in lowercase when you 'sign' your name on talk pages.
The software doesn't care whether the first letter is capitalized; it'll show as a capital in system things (such as your contributions, etc) - there is no way around that. It's just the way things work.86.20.193.222 (talk) 19:36, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Leedsface: You can also enter leedsface in the Signature field at Special:Preferences to sign your discussion posts with lowercase when you write ~~~~. In page histories and most other places it will always be displayed in uppercase. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:40, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Phabricator

Hello! Would somebody like to help me submit a proposal to Phabricator? What I would like to suggest is adding the option "upright" to the editor surface function "embedded file" (for all Wikipedia versions, of course!). I'd be grateful for any help since I'm not familiar to how Phabricator actually works and I admittedly find it a bit confusing for somebody not on the inside – though I do think that the community could in fact benefit from my idea... @Ilyasalkind: Your only saved edit was to add your own name in [4]. Ilya Salkind#Personal life says: "And today he lives with his fourth wife Deborah Moore Salkind, they are together now for sixteen years. They have no children." It's unsourced, not mentioned in the infobox at the top right, and Wikipedia articles should specify years instead of such formulations. Of course you know the information yourself but Wikipedia requires reliable published sources so readers can verify the information. I could only find mention that you are partners. Do you have a reliable published source mentioning the marriage and year of the wedding? PrimeHunter (talk) 10:43, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ite been 7 months here too but Doctor are unable to diagnose what is wrong. The other eye also had same episode of vision loss in October 2016 in USA , they again gave her medicine through Veins it again helped her, they did Lumper puncture in here USA, it was normal but this time, the Spine MRI came up with another legion in her lower spine which is not active, so doctor said its not active so nothing to worry about. St joseph hospital and Mayo clinic here tols ud she has MS, and i need to take her to MS specialist as we do not have insurance in USA so they can not keep her in hospital.

Breaking a part of list into columns

I'm planning to fix List of songs in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic article to counter legibility issues (especially on small screens), and this is what I came up with, so far.

    ; "Episode Whatever"
    # "First song"
    #* '''Music:''' John Doe
    #* '''Lyrics:''' Jane Public
    #; Performer (character)
    #: Actress A (Pony A)
    #; Backing vocals
    #: Actress B (Unicorn B)
    #: Actress C (Pegasus A)
#; Context: Pony A has a problem so Unicorn B and Pegasus A cheer her.
    # "Second song"
    #* '''Music:''' John Doe
    #* '''Lyrics:''' Jane Public
    #; Performer (character)
    #: Actress A (Pony A)
#; Context: Pony A wonders if her problem was solved well.

    Resulting:

    "Episode Whatever"
    1. "First song"
      • Music: John Doe
      • Lyrics: Jane Public
      Performer (character)
      Actress A (Pony A)
      Backing vocals
      Actress B (Unicorn B)
      Actress C (Pegasus A)
      Context
Pony A has a problem so Unicorn B and Pegasus A cheer her.
    2. "Second song"
      • Music: John Doe
      • Lyrics: Jane Public
      Performer (character)
      Actress A (Pony A)
      Context
Pony A wonders if her problem was solved well.

I'm thinking of using some trick so the list would be (roughly) look like:

    "Episode title"

    1. "Song title"

    • Music: composer
    • Lyrics: writer
    Vocals
    List
    of
    credited
    performers
    Context
    All the context

Of course, I'd use adaptive column template so it would look like not broken into columns on smartphones.

But is there a solution to achieve that, while numbers are not broken like 1. "First song" and 1. "Second song"? JSH-alive/talk/cont/mail 16:19, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Strange behaviour of shortcut New Section

Please see the table of contents of Talk:Oil reserves. All recent uses of the New Section shortcut resulted in an apparent subsection of the section "Canada Tar Sands", even though their titles have only "==". Layzeeboi (talk) 19:14, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Layzeeboi: The "Canada Tar Sands" heading was a level one heading, with only one "=". I've turned it into a level two heading, with "==", and the TOC now looks normal. -- John of Reading (talk) 19:21, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

changing a header on a page

In the mobile version of Wikipedia in an article about Narcolepsy it states " A sleep disorder that involves an excessive urge to murder at inappropriate times, such as while at work."

Narcolepsy is a neurological illness. People with Narcolepsy are not psychopaths nor is this illness funny. If that was the intended purpose of that statement.

Please edit that comment because it is highly offensive and more importantly misleading. It will be greatly appreciated.

    Post branching

Two days ago I posted a question on Science desk[5]. Many people responded but many questions contained speculations, unwanted opinions, fantasies, etc. Some people got unhappy with that. Then I noticed that someone sort of combined some posts, gave this block a heading and now it appears as a subcategory. This actually happened twice. This is fine with me but I have two questions. Am I still the OP in any of the subcategories. It seems I am not, because people refer to other posts, the ones that start the blocks as the OP. Also what are the rules governing creation such sub chapters? Thanks, - --AboutFace 22 (talk) 23:09, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    February 25

I'm not sure if my computer has a problem, or if I'm dealing with an editor who's being difficult. Could someone please have a look at Talk:Zaytoven#Dead link in article? Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 00:12, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Answered at talk. But yes, the link works for me. †dismas†|(talk) 00:17, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reference number 11 is all wrong. The date of the article is NOT from 2017. It is earlier. I cannot work out why there are 2 dates. Please fix. Thanks 101.182.96.231 (talk) 00:31, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    3 things please.

    1. I have failed to correctly add a relative - (father-in-law) - to the box on the right at the top. It looks wrong. I have tried.
    2. Also, I have failed to added the immediate link in the box to the section "Michael Francis Middleton" which is on the page Family of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
    3. The same problem with Captain Peter Middleton - also in the Carole Middleton box - who has his own section on the page - Family of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

I have really struggled here. Please fix Thanks so much 101.182.96.231 (talk) 00:38, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I took the liberty of splitting your comments in three numbered question to make replying easier.
    1. The problem was that the html <small> tag was not opened. Instead, the father in law section war encapsulated in two closure </small> tags.
    2. (and 3.) These had the same type of problem. If you wish to link to a section on another page that pages name must be added before the section name. Eg: [[Carole_Middleton#Early_life]] will link to the "Early_life" section on the "Carole Middleton" page. Just adding "#Early_life" works, but in that case a link will be created to a section on the page you are currently on.
    Hope this helps!

I am so sorry - I see that I have also stuffed up the immediate link to "Olive Chistiana Middleton, nee Lupton" - (in the section "Business success and husband's inherited...") which is on the Lupton family page where Olive also has her own section. Please fix - Thanks 101.182.96.231 (talk) 01:24, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed - Same issue as point 2 and 3 in the section above. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 01:27, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is embarrassing - in the "Business success..." section of this article - the line reads: "...were both Carole and Michael and was so successful that it's headquarters had moved to a...".

We are not sure if the apostrophe is correct in the word "it's"..... Please correct. Thanks

    It's not correct. You can remove it. †dismas†|(talk) 05:23, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
