The United States House of Representatives elections in Virginia, 2018 are scheduled for November 6, 2018. Primary elections are scheduled for June 12.[1]

District 1

In the 1st district, Democratic challengers to Republican incumbent Rob Wittman include former Marine Edwin Santana; author, professional genealogist, historian, and professional speaker Vangie Williams; and John Suddarth.[2]

District 2

2nd district Republican incumbent Scott Taylor has drawn two Democratic candidates, Veteran and small business owner Elaine Luria and teacher Karen Mallard, in a race targeted by the DNC. Early on, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chose Luria as its favored candidate.[3] This is one of only two GOP held seats that voted for Democrat Ralph Northam in 2017.

Shaun Brown is running as an independent.[4]

Taylor is also being challenged in the Republican primary by former James City County Supervisor Mary Jones, who has attacked Rep. Taylor for his moderate stances and because she believes he hasn’t backed President Donald Trump's proposals and is too critical of him.[5]

District 3

3rd district incumbent Democrat Bobby Scott is currently unopposed.[6]

District 4

In the 4th district, Democratic incumbent Donald McEachin has no primary challengers.[7] On the Republican side, Pastor Ryan McAdams and fashion designer Shion Fenty are candidates.[8]

District 5

5th district incumbent Republican Tom Garrett Jr. is running unopposed in the Republican primary.[9]

Democrats chose Leslie Cockburn out of the three Democrats (Cockburn, Andrew Sneathern, and Roger Dean Huffstetler) that ran in the Convention. Roger Dean "RD" Huffstetler, a 38-year-old Marine Corps Veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and business entrepreneur, had announced his candidacy for Virginia's 5th Congressional District in December.[10] Huffstetler has a strong dislike for the House Freedom Caucus.[11] Sneathern is an attorney and former assistant commonwealth's attorney for Albemarle County.[12]

District 6

The 6th district will be an open seat in 2018, after the Republican incumbent, Bob Goodlatte, representative from the 6th district since 1993, announced his retirement in November 2017.[13][14]

Eight Republicans ran in the Convention in this very Republican District, where State Delegate Ben Cline was chosen as the GOP Nominee. The other candidates were Chaz Haywood, Douglas Wright, Cynthia Dunbar, Ed Justo, Kathryn Lewis, Elliot Pope, and Mike Desjadon.[15]

There are four Democrats (Sergio Coppola, Jennifer Lewis, Charlotte Moore, and Peter Volosin) and an Independent (Steve America) running. America is a former professional wrestler and current Elkton Councilman.[16] Michael Frend was also running as an independent, but dropped out after the Republican convention and threw his support behind Lewis.[17]

District 7

In the 7th district Democrats Abigail Spanberger, former CIA operations officer, and Dan Ward, have announced their candidacies against Incumbent Republican Dave Brat.[18][19] Democrat Helen Alli, an Army veteran and small business owner, left the Democratic primary to run as a Whig, complaining that too many Democrats in the region had endorsed an opponent without getting to know her.[20] Libertarian Joe Walton, a former chairman of the Powhatan Board of Supervisors,[21] is also running.[22]

District 8

In the 8th district, Democrat Don Beyer is being challenged by Republican Thomas Oh.[23]

District 9

In the 9th district, Republican Morgan Griffith has two Democratic opponents, Anthony Flaccavento and Justin Santopietro, and a Whig opponent, Scott Blankenship,[24] in this strongly Republican district.[25]

District 10

In the 10th district, six Democratic candidates, encouraged by the fact that Republican incumbent Barbara Comstock's district voted for Hillary Clinton in the U.S. presidential election, 2016, submitted the required number of signatures to run for that seat.[26] Republicans believe, however, that given that Comstock is an excellent fundraiser and fierce campaigner, she will be able to keep the seat.[27] April polling is favorable to a generic Democrat against Comstock, although Comstock performs much better in polling when her name is on the ballot against a named Democratic opponent.[28]

Shak Hill of Centreville has announced that he is challenging Comstock in the Republican primary.[29]

Virginia Democratic State Senator Jennifer Wexton of Leesburg announced her candidacy on April 20, 2017.[30] Lindsey Davis Stover, a senior advisor to Barack Obama's Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki, announced her candidacy on April 18, 2017.[31]

Army veteran Daniel Helmer of Fairfax County has also announced his candidacy,[32] as has former State Department official Alison Friedman[33] and scientist Julia Biggins[34] and federal prosecutor Paul Pelletier.[35] Libertarian Nathan Larson is also running.[36]
