    No contents list

Hi. Why is there no contents list in Genie (Disney)? Javiero Fernandez (talk) 01:49, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Javiero Fernandez A table of contents automatically appears when the article has four headings, but you can force one to appear with the magic word __FORCETOC__TeraTIX 02:07, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Making half columns in tables

How would you make a sorta half-column in a table? Clearly you could use "colspan=2" but if I wanted to put two things in a row together without lengthening every other row, how would I do it? exoplanetaryscience (talk) 02:12, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, the example section is this:

    Gliese 570 Gliese 570 A 19.1844±0.0096
    Gliese 570 BC Gliese 570 B
    Gliese 570 C
    Gliese 570 D

    changing to:

    Gliese 570 Gliese
    570
    ABC
    Gliese 570 A 19.1844±0.0096
    Gliese 570
    BC
    Gliese 570 B
    Gliese 570 C
    Gliese 570 D
Sorry, exoplanetaryscience, I don't understand what you're asking for. I presume the second table doesn't appear how you want it, but I don't know how you do want it. --ColinFine (talk) 15:22, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Woops, I don't think I clarified that very well. Basically the lower table is how it should be formatted, except the two BC/ABC things should be effectively formatted as one column. Basically, the rows above and below it are only one column, so if I had this formatted as two, it would totally mess up the formatting of the above/below cells. exoplanetaryscience (talk) 20:02, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Exoplanetaryscience: It sounds like you are not just asking for code but for an opinion on the layout of a table. It's hard to give advice without context like a column heading and which information should be conveyed. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:19, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No no, not like that. Let me try to give a different example format here: exoplanetaryscience (talk) 21:27, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
One column (colspan=1) One column One column One column
    Gliese 570 Gliese
    570
    ABC
    Gliese 570 A 19.1844±0.0096
    Gliese 570
    BC
    Gliese 570 B
    Gliese 570 C
    Gliese 570 D
One column One column One column One column
How do I format it such that the second and third "columns" in the middle are only taking up the lateral space of one column? Is it even possible? exoplanetaryscience (talk) 21:27, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That gives no new information. Whether it's "possible" depends on what is considered an acceptable solution. Without context I have no idea which changes to your table may be acceptable. You can make it more narrow by changing Gliese 570<br>BC to Gliese<br>570<br>BC but I don't even know whether that is a real string. I don't know the reason for the strange layout but if you do want that layout then you just have to write colspan="2" at that position in all other rows of the table. Such things are common. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:05, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well to be fair, if you knew what I was talking about, you'd know that the concept is very hard to explain well in text. Thanks for the attempt at understanding it, though. exoplanetaryscience (talk) 23:09, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tigraan: Thanks, that's pretty close. Basically, I want to format it such that two "columns" only take up the effective width of a single column. I kind of jury-rigged it together with just cheating EVERYTHING to be two columns, but I want to have the above and below columns to only take up one span, as well as obviously the focused one. exoplanetaryscience (talk) 19:03, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is Help:Table#Setting column widths but it's usually better to let the browser decide the column widths. Forcing column widths can give a poor result on narrow screens. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:12, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Accessible alternate text for image in sidebar

Is there a way to include accessible alternate text for the |image= parameter in {{sidebar}}? YBG (talk) 04:22, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@YBG: Since the |image= parameter accepts the full [[File:...]] syntax, the alt text can be added with its |alt= parameter. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:58, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Help with sourcing

    Hi,

On the Western New England English Wikipedia page, I want to add a source that counters the notion that WNE is part of "unmarked" General American varieties. Since Atlas of North American English is widely used as sources on various Wikipedia accent pages, can someone help me with sourcing?

I want to add: The Atlas of North American English does not consider Western New England English to be of General American varities due to sharing some of the "marked" features of the Northern Cities Vowel Shift.[1]

The direct link to this source can be found here on page 144 [1] Here is an image I made where I highlight stuff related to my edit: [2] I highlighted the WNE part to show that it has some of the marked features of the Northern Cities Vowel Shift. The reason I also highlighted The West, the Midland and Canada is because that is what ANAE considers to be General American. It's all on page 144 and all highlighted in that image I uploaded.

Can anyone tell me if I referenced and sourced that properly? I'm bad at source coding and don't know if I included everything I needed. Lai2lex (talk) 12:46, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lai2, Pls visit WP:HOWCITE on how to cite and the the template (for citing a book) - see here Template:Cite book. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 13:00, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Lai2 Ref formatting is OK, , although you could include your link as Labov, William; Ash, Sharon; Boberg, Charles (2006). The Atlas of North American English (PDF). Berlin: Mouton-de Gruyter. p. 144. ISBN 3-11-016746-8.. Say "does not" instead of "doesn't", check spelling of "varieties" Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:06, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I did look at that, CASSIOPEDIA. Before editing, I wanted to make sure the code was all properly done. I noticed that someome mentioned that ANAE didn't consider WNE to be GA, so I looked it up. Just checking if everything seems to be alright before I add it. Jimfbleak, I prefer your way of sourcing better. It's nice how it links directly to the website. That'll be nice for people that want to be able to look it up via clicking the link. I should ping @Wolfdog: as he was kind and thanked me for my previous edit on that page. Maybe he would prefer one way of sourcing over the other? Thanks again, guys. Lai2lex (talk) 13:53, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Lai2lex and Wolfdog:, Which ever style you choose to cite the source, the idea is to be consistent and provide all the needed information is made available. If an article already has a consistent citation style with needed inforamtion then you should normally follow it - pls see WP:CITEVAR. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 14:21, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • As a separate issue, I had trouble decoding your sentence. "does not consider WNE part of GA because ..." is (sort of) a double negative, and might better be "distinguishes WNE from GA because ..." if that is what you meant. -Arch dude (talk) 17:56, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Arch dude:Thanks. How does this sound to you? "According to the Atlas of North American English, Western New England English is not considered to be of General American varities due to having features of the Northern Cities Vowel Shift.[1] Lai2lex (talk) 03:40, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    That's quite clear. Thanks. -Arch dude (talk) 03:53, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Arch dude: Does this still sound good to you? "According to the Atlas of North American English, Western New England English is not considered to be of General American varieties." Lai2lex (talk) 12:21, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Appropriate inline tag

    Hi,

What inline tag would I use to mark a reference that only takes me to a general website, rather than to a specific location/source/article where the actual citation can be found (e.g. front page of the bbc rather than an article)? Nosebagbear (talk) 17:20, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Rogue Page changes

We have a Wikipedia page that is constantly being changed by someone (maybe a disgruntled ex employee?) All the information we are loading is factual and supported, in many cases, several times over. This “person” virtually trolls the page and removes posts within hours of updates. How can we stop this from happening? Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.31.71.58 (talk) 15:34, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Who are "we"? And what Wikipedia article is this about? Maproom (talk) 16:11, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please note, IP user, that "We have a Wikipedia page" is automatically false. Nobody in the world "has" a Wikipedia page. Wikipedia may have a page about you, but it is not your page to control: see WP:OWN and WP:COI. It might indeed be that the person removing the information is vandalising; or it might be that the information you are adding is not cited to a reliable published source (in which case anybody in the world may remove it); or it might be that it is accurate and verifiable, but that that editor does not think that it is encyclopaedic, in which case they are entitled to remove it, and your appropriate action is to discuss it on the talk page: see WP:BRD. In any case, if they are "constantly changing" it, this implies that you are reinserting it without discussing the matter first: if so, then both of you are edit warring, and should stop immediately. In any case, as Maproom says, we cannot pursue this further unless you tell us which of our five million articles this concerns. --ColinFine (talk) 17:37, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New pages are NOINDEXed until either they get patrolled through New page patrol (where there is currently a queue of over 3000 pages) or they reach 90 days old. You ought to remove the misplaced external links from the article text, and bring the formatting into line with the Manual of Style. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:36, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Before you do any other fixups, please immediately add citations to multiple reliable sources (WP:RS) to support your assertion that the subject is notable (WP:NOTABLE). Otherwise, your article may be deleted. I suspect, based on my very short look at the article, that this will be relatively easy, and it's even possible that some of your existing references suffice, but that is not clear as your somewhat unconventional reference formatting did not allow me to figure out if they meet the standard for a reliable source. I strongly recommend that you find articles in major national or international newspapers or news web sites. Once you have verifiable notability, you and others can improve the formatting at your leisure without the pressure of a deletion review. Thanks for the article and good luck with your improvements. -Arch dude (talk) 19:02, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    BIO

doesn't seem to be a question

Describing yourself maybe sometimes tricky because you know yourself so much, to the extent that you may end up writing lots of things about yourself. Placing that aside, my name is Gurwinder Sidhu. I’m 20 and was born in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Actually, for now, I stay in Canada as I pursue my education.

As any other human being can be, I have a father named Lakhvir Singh and mum whose name am not ashamed to say it loudly Manjit Kaur. My interest in music started in my early ages, passion, and power drove me towards achieving my long desire in the music industry and YouTube. Before coming up with the best version of your song, you go through some challenges but what stands is the enthusiasm in me as I drove the wheels even further to make sure all goes well.

My first song sound like a joke in the ears of my parents but all that was a reality. With passion in composing the songs in Punjabi, there came my first song Dillan vich shade “ which is translated to jealousy in the Punjabi music industry. I made this song with Ravi Warraich and Ekam Bhinder. Apart from music and all related field am also running a red, black records Punjabi music label company. The company will see young, ambitious and talented artist compose and record their songs without any difficulties.

Without forgetting myself, the company will help me grow in my music career as I am increasing to different levels. My dream is to study music and explore the world. I love everything associated with this country, and I hope that in the future, I will learn will be an epitome to be emulated. My main aim will be to mentor people in joining the industry. Music is everything and listening to it makes you feel complete and stress-free.

How long does it take what to come in Google? If you were thinking of writing an autobiography without any evidence of notability then the answer is never, as it would be deleted. If you were to write a new article on a notable subject, the criteria are at WP:NOINDEX, so not more than 90 days after publication of the article. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:08, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Template Redirects

Hello again - apologies for the multiple questions in quick succession

I am currently amending the template that was created with the help on the helpdesk earlier. Part of this requires redirects, which I only know how to do for mainspace articles

How do I create a template page that I can then redirect?

    Battle and Infobox Questions

    1. Is there a standard infobox for battles (in articles about battles)?

    2. Is there a complete list of infoboxes showing any hierarchical (tree) structure?

    3. May the general infobox for battles be used for fictional battles (if the fictional battle has an article and is otherwise considered notable)? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:00, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The simplest way to answer 1 and 3 is to check a few articles. So infobox military conflict for 1 (per Gettysburg, Trafalgar and Britain), and no for 3 (see Battle of the Pelennor Fields), which makes sense, since it would cause confusion. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:55, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Robert, hope you don't mind my piggy-backing on your question to Clarityfiend. At this draft I'm using {{Infobox military conflict}} for a bloodless coup. I'm considering {{Infobox civil conflict}} as an alternative, but that doesn't seem quite right, either. What we really need is, {{Infobox coup d'etat}}. Suggestions? (ping, please). • @Robert McClenon: Per Wikipedia:Editnotice, All users can create editnotices for their user space, but in other namespaces only administrators and template editors can create editnotices. That page also has instructions to request one. (Also, obviously, you should probably discuss a bit with other WikiProject members before slapping a controversial edit notice on the project page.) Karl Kjer Reference Issue

    Karl Kjer

Article was made up for a honer to Karl Kjer. But after a incident happened and published at Middlesex website. ref below Middle Sex Which got published on other news networks as well. It turned to a defamation. Where as Middlesex also clearly states in its bottom that "As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charge against Kjer is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty."

You can check on the link. But I think admin level peoples also come against us when we tries to delete it. This is a threat which peoples still keep using against Karl here is a link I just discovered.New Post

Some peoples are working on publishing this again and again. No idea why and who. I like help and removal of this thing. As I was associated with article and had tried to remove it too.

Blueparticle I'm not sure what your goal here is? It appears the article you listed that Karl was actually convicted, so the information is truthful and relevant for the article. The help desk isn't a place for content disputes. If you want wording changed (as you're unlikely to get it removed) then you are best to discuss that on the articles talk page. NZFC(talk) 10:47, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) When the article Karl Kjer was created, it was about a worthy but unremarkable entomologist, with little evidence of notability. Then he got into the news when he was found guilty of a criminal offense,[1] and mention of this was added to the article, with references. My personal opinion is that neither his entomological activities nor his criminal act are enough to warrant an article about him, and it should be deleted. But if Wikipedia is to have an article on him, it should mention his main claim to notability. Maproom (talk) 10:58, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Article just recently went through AfD and was a keep as it meets notable for professors WP:NACADEMIC. So with that it appears that the conviction information warrents being added also. NZFC(talk) 11:05, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    IMDB.COM

I used imdb.com as a reference at Birdy (singer), but someone said it's not accepted as a reference. Is this right? I would have thought imdb was pretty authoritative on the subject of movies. Also, the other person placed a ref tag on the list of movies. I understood we didn't necessarily have to have a ref unless the info is controversial or likely to be challenged, which I don't think is the case here, especially since the info is covered in other Wiki articles. Chuck Hustmyre

For a few years there was an article about me, but someone has removed or deleted it. My guess would be someone I offended or who did not like one of my books or movies. Is there a way to restore that article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.64.19.98 (talk) 13:48, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Chuck. Articles called Chuck Hustmyre have been deleted three times, by three different admins. The first time, in 2007, the text was a copyright violation. The other two times (in 2008 and 2017) the reasons given were "Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a real person" and "Does not appear to satisfy WP:BIO notability standard. No significant coverage by reliable, independent secondary sources". In other words, it did not appear that there were enough reliable, independent, published sources about you to establish that you are notable in Wikipedia's special sense of that word, and thus that it would be possible to write an acceptable article. It is unlikely that anybody's personal likes or dislikes were involved.
Since Wikipedia strongly discourages autobiography, if you want there to be an article about you (over which you will have no control whatever, by the way), I suggest you make a request at requested articles. If you can find some suitable sources (remember that they must be professionally published, and must not come from you, or your friends or associates, not even based on an interview or a press release: see IRS) and cite them, that will make the project that little bit more attractive to a volunteer who might pick it up. --ColinFine (talk) 14:12, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to report an email offering to promote businesses in Wikipedia?

I received an email offering paid services to promote people or businesses, seemingly by editing Wikipedia to create entries for them. This sounds like an abuse of many of the WP policies. Is there a place I should forward this email to in order for WP to take action? Thanks. Gareth.randall (talk) 14:16, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • Here is a blog post on the subject [3]. However, unless the solicitation purports to be from someone associated with Wikipedia, It's not clear that any action can be taken by anyone at WMF. If the the offer contains actual false or misleading statements, you can presumably alert the BBB or the authorities in your jurisdiction that deal with false advertising. Our policies (WP:PAID) do not prohibit paid editing if it is disclosed. We do note that paying someone to edit is unlikely to be useful, a and promotional material is likely to be deleted.-Arch dude (talk) 15:19, 8 June 2018 (UTC).[reply]

    • Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. Contradicting policy

In https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Layout#NOTSEEALSO, it is remarked "The links in the "See also" section should be relevant, should reflect the links that would be present in a comprehensive article on the topic, and should be limited to a reasonable number. It is also not mandatory, as many high-quality and comprehensive articles do not have a "See also" section, although some featured articles like 1740 Batavia massacre and Mary, Queen of Scots include this section." and also remarked " As a general rule, the "See also" section should not repeat links that appear in the article's body or its navigation boxes." E.g.:- Having a "See Also" section for Departments of Gabon in Komo-Océan (department) is more valuable according to literature as a cross reference (ref: https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED401916.pdf). Either change the policy or give me clear argument about this. Shevonsilva (talk) 18:17, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • Those are not policies. They are guidelines. We do (or did) try to avoid excessively prescriptive guidelines. The goal is to allow editors to use their best judgement to write useful encyclopedia articles. In the early days of Wikipedia, we encouraged the creation of stub articles, and the guidelines reflect this. For such articles, the "see also" section was a place to collect links to other articles that would eventually be mentioned inline in the article as it grew. Later, some editors began using that section name for other purposes. If you see an article that appears to be fairly complete but that still has a useful "see also" section, feel free to incorporate the links more organically into the article, or convert some or all of them into a list if that is more appropriate. -Arch dude (talk) 19:48, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Error in Akshay kumar's info page

    • The Akshay kumar article lists him as a Canadian citizen and provides a reference to a reliable source. "Nationality" in this case means "citizenship". If you feel that this is in error, please provide a reliable source. You should probably do this at the article's talk page instead of here.-Arch dude (talk) 21:10, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I checked the {{infobox person}} documentation. It has a "citizenship" param. I changed the param from "nationality" to citizenship" to avoid the confusion. -Arch dude (talk) 21:54, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to a non-English WP article

What is the format for linking to a non-English WP article; and, can that (or should it?) be added to the Authorlink parameter in a citation? —2606:A000:1126:4CA:0:98F2:CFF6:1782 (talk) 20:27, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • A raw interwiki link looks like this: w:es:Miguel de Cervantes. as a authorlink, it looks like this: {{cite book|first=Miguel|last=Cervantes|authorlink=w:es:Miguel de Cervantes|title=Don Quixote}}.[1] Now the hard part: should you do this? I don't know about policy or guidelines, but it doesn't feel right to me. I think it may be better to create an extremely stubby article here on the English Wikipedia with one of those big banners that says that the article should be translated from the other encyclopedia (These are listed in Category:Expand by language Wikipedia templates). You will need to copy the reliable sources over from the foreign article and make at least a one-sentence assertion of reliability to avoid article deletion. -Arch dude (talk) 21:29, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do you need the "w."? Doesn't es:Miguel de Cervantes go to the same place as w:es:Miguel de Cervantes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by David Biddulph (talkcontribs) 21:35, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I tried that in the authorlink and it appeared to fail. Perhaps I messed up my experiment, so here it is again.[2] -Arch dude (talk) 21:39, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I recall seeing somewhere a link (presumably a template) that looks something like: Somebody, I. M.(es), where the link would go to the Spanish article for I. M. Somebody, (and the "es" lets you know that it is a link to es:wp) -- This isn't a major issue; its for the following citation, where the author is at de:Jean Marteilhe. Mostly, this might be helpful for a reader to verify that this is an actual autobiography, and not a fictional account published in 2010.

Thanks for the effort and the interlanguage link (somewhat different from my recollection). I suppose it could be done by circumventing the citation template and formatting by hand (thus),[4] but that would present a redlink in the reference. —2606:A000:1126:4CA:0:98F2:CFF6:1782 (talk) 06:41, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Article Declined

I had my draft of the article declined, but it was an edited version of the different newspaper reports which were listed in the references after the article. What should I have done differently? What do I do now? (You can tell I'm a newbie!!) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Julsm (talkcontribs) 21:40, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • I suggest you first read the box that was placed at the top of your draft. It has text that tells you what the problems are, and links to information pages on what we expect. Read those pages, then go to the help desk for articles for creation, which is also in that box. Before proceeding too far, make sure that your subject is notable as we define it (WP:NOTABLE), Otherwise, you risk doing a lot of work only to ultimately have the article deleted. No amount of referencing, and no level of elegant prose, can overcome a lack of notability. -Arch dude (talk) 22:03, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) This is about Draft:Keith Drury. Some things you could now do:
    • Read the reasons it was declined (in the grey panel within the pink "Submission declined" notice at the top of the draft), and follow the advice given there.
    • Delete the long list of "references" to material the subject has written about himself.
    • Cite the other references (the ones to independently-written articles in newspapers) within the article, instead of just presenting a list of them at the foot of the article. If you don't know how to do that, read Help:Referencing for beginners. While the article cites no references, it will certainly be rejected.

    Changing page name ("moving")

I've been commissioned by Honeywell to update their TPE331 page with the correct corporate name, improve the citations and add new material with appropriate citations.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrett_TPE331

I've already made most of the substantive changes, though there are some citations that need to be fixed or adjusted, which I figured I'd do separately.

However, I've been wandering around the Wiki Help/Talk pages for about 30 minutes now trying to figure out how to contact someone about my current project.

Here's what I want to do, in a nutshell: Change the name from Garrett TPE331 page to Honeywell TPE331. From what I've read, this means "moving" it and using the new name. However, the system says I cannot move it because the new name is already in use.

    Can someone advise?

@Jveeds: You need to disclose that you are a paid editor, see WP:PAID. Article names follow the convention of WP:COMMONNAME. You can start a discussion on the article's talk page to get consensus renaming the page. RudolfRed (talk) 22:56, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    (edit conflict)
Honeywell TPE331 is currently a redirect to Garrett TPE331 (see redirect:Honeywell TPE331). You want to reverse the situation, which indeed requires a page move. That last link provides the following tip:

...which might be your best bet, unless somebody (else) here gives it a go. —2606:A000:1126:4CA:0:98F2:CFF6:1782 (talk) 23:04, 8 June 2018 (UTC) . . . ps: it is doubtful that this name change would be considered "controversial", and even more doubtful that you would get a timely response on the article talk page.[reply]

Hi. Indeed I undid the edit as no source was provided to back up the claim that Somali citizens are eligible for eVisa and visa on arrival to Turkey. As with most African countries Somalian citizens are only eligible for a conditional eVisa - if holding a valid Schengen or US visa. However this is nothing new and in all other articles under such regime this is listed as "visa required" as indeed such nationals need either a Turkish sticker visa from an embassy or an electronic visa and another sticker visa combined. As for visa on arrival facility it does not exist for Somalian citizens at all. Hope this clears it up.--Twofortnights (talk) 11:36, 9 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We have strict referencing requirements for biographies of living persons. Just a comment, on a very minor issue that I don't feel confident enough about to change myself. If a man is executed by hanging, we say he is "hanged". But if an already dead body of a criminal is suspended by a rope "as a frightening example", we say he is "hung". At least, I do (I'm English). But I can't find a grammatical justification for this. Yes, the criminals were hanged, the corpses hung. I've changed it. Note that even if the method of execution were different, the corpses could still be hung, it's just the juxtaposition of the two usages that caused some confusion Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:12, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
