Welcome to The Wikipedia Adventure!

Hi Mstrojny! We're so happy you wanted to play to learn, as a friendly and fun way to get into our community and mission. I think these links might be helpful to you as you get started.

Help me!

I did the Wikipedia adventure and now I have two pages User:Mstrojny/TWA/Earth and User:Mstrojny/TWA/Earth/2 that display the same content. Can you please delete the first one and move the second one to the title of the first one? Thank you.

Mstrojny (talk) 15:59, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Cheers--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:07, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Fuhghettaboutit: Thank you. --Mstrojny (talk) 16:34, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Mstrojny. Anytime. By the way, I didn't receive your ping because of the way you tried to fix it. I created the temlpate I'm placing below a while back to explain this issue and have never had a chance to use it, so, since it's appicable here...

Hello Mstrojny. I noticed your attempt to fix your ping in this edit. That method does not work. The notifications system only informs a user when you link their username in the same saved edit as you successfully sign your post. A ping cannot be fixed in a later edit by adding a signature you forgot, by fixing your botched signature, or by fixing the user name link. Instead, you have to link the user name and successfully sign in a manner that the software parses as a new line of text. Help:Fixing failed pings has more information about the issues involved and provides suggested methods to successfully perform the fix. Template:Z27 --Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:49, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Fuhghettaboutit: Okay, sorry about that. Mstrojny (talk) 10:56, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_English Why did you undo my correction of the Glottocode for New Zealand English? How was it "unconstructive" when it's entirely factual and up to date? I see you've been in trouble with Administrators before - I wonder why. But fine: have it your way; keep your little fiefdom; I couldn't care less. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.97.9.76 (talk) 01:32, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@88.97.9.16: Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I am sorry if I undid a constructive edit. I have reverted your edit to New Zealand English. Hope that helps. Mstrojny (talk) 03:17, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A belated welcome!

The welcome may be belated, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Mstrojny. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{help me}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Nick Moyes (talk) 07:57, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes

I would like to add userboxes to my user page. Can you give me some ideas on which userboxes I should add first? Mstrojny (talk) 22:08, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy ping: Abelmoschus Esculentus -- he can probably help. :D ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:28, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ToBeFree: Well I only design userboxes You may add {{User Wikipedian for}} or userboxes that shows where are you from/what you like. See WP:USERBOX. Abelmoschus Esculentus (talkcontribs) 23:26, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User page

I need help customizing my user page. WP:UP seems confusing to me. You can look at what I have so far, but I was wondering if you could help me add a few more things to my user page and help me with the formatting of my user page? I would appreciate that.

Mstrojny (talk) 19:57, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please specify what you would like to add where. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:45, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ToBeFree: There isn't any particular thing I would like to have in my user page. I would like to have a more detailed user page like yours. Can you help me add more things to my user page? Mstrojny (talk) 20:50, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mstrojny, I can't magically make up useful information; feel free to add any information to your userpage as normal text. For example, which country you are from, what you enjoy doing at Wikipedia, and which languages you speak how fluently. Only when that is already done, we can consider improving formatting and adding userboxes. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:55, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ToBeFree: I put a little more information about myself. Can you help me format my user page? Mstrojny (talk) 22:38, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Check again, and feel free to build upon this. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:08, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

TimedText:Eagles - Hotel California.ogg.en.srt

Check the edit before you make reverts. The revert right is not an excuse for not using it properly. I have sysop experience by the way. And stop spamming my userpage with nonesence, thanks.--Snaevar (talk) 00:06, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

Hi Mstrojny. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~Swarm~ {talk} 23:50, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have an alternative account named Mstrojny1234 that has no edits. However, I do not need it for any reason. I know it's not possible to delete accounts on Wikipedia, so I would like to request courtesy vanishing for that account. Can you rename the account for me please? Mstrojny (talk) 19:49, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:RTV Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:14, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can request the account to be renamed by logging into it and then making use of Special:GlobalRenameRequest. Courtesy vanishing, however, is only meant for people who want to leave Wikipedia entirely; it isn't meant for retiring one of multiple accounts. My advice would be to add a note to this account's user page that the other account is you, and to continue to not use the other account. Huon (talk) 23:12, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm totally new here, and don't plan on becoming an editor or writer; however, with that being said, I'm not exactly sure about the process of approaching someone to offer help to fix a page? Specifically, the one on Assassins (which, according to wiki rules should actually be titled the original Hashashin...?) Anyway, as i mentioned, i'd like to collaborate and see if we can't fix this up? I'm sending this to you because you're the last editor shown. Or you can tell me to eff off. Hope your day is well. Fixing pings

Hi there. Thanks for helping out at the Teahouse. Just to let you know that when fixing a ping, like you did here, you need to update the timestamp in your signature as well - otherwise, a notification won't be triggered. Hi! I noticed that you have been using Twinkle to revert vandalism! That's awesome! Huggle is another great option that I recommend it's fast and quick, it reverts vandalism and warns the user for you in one click of a button! It can also do a lot of other things! --Thegooduser Life Begins With a Smile :) 🍁 21:50, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

thegooduser, I tried Huggle, but I the user interface too complicated for me. Mstrojny (talk) 23:08, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No Problem. I was very confused at first. But I wrote a quick start at MW:Manual:Huggle, have you read it yet? It's really easy to use once you get the hang of it, a lot of the functions on huggle I don't use. --Thegooduser Life Begins With a Smile :) 🍁 23:10, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed change

I am proposing a new change to WP:TUTORIAL. See here. Also see my sandbox. DannyS712 wanted the second layer of headings to be equal length. Can you please edit the sandbox so that the headings are of equal length? Thank you. Mstrojny (talk) 10:31, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You'll likely have to modify the actual tab pages such as Wikipedia:Tutorial/TabsTop. I would not do that without previously having created sandbox copies of all the relevant pages and having tested the edits there. My personal guess is that the length is due to the margin:auto; parameter in Wikipedia:Introduction/TabsTop which would likely need to be added to the tutorial version of the TabsTop page to make those full-width too. Huon (talk) 11:38, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Huon, I have created sandbox changes here and here. I don't know how to fix the margin:auto; parameter. Can you tell me what needs to be changed to or change it for me? You are welcome to edit my sandboxes to get the code right. I don't have much experience in this area of Wikipedia. Mstrojny (talk) 11:52, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My initial guess was wrong; instead, I had to create copies of Wikipedia:Introduction/Tab1 and Wikipedia:Introduction/Tab2 with the width adapted to having nine tabs. Now it looks mostly decent. More work could be done to get the frame right. Huon (talk) 13:29, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Huon, Thank you, I will add to the discussion on the talk page that you fixed it. Mstrojny (talk) 13:37, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cannon content removed wrongfully

Good day Interstellarity,

I received a message stating that you removed one of my edits.

The information I added was made cannon in the Marvel Universe story-line through the movie Deadpool 2. I do acknowledge that the content may seem vulgar, but it is factual and should remain on record. I understand that you might have removed it in misconception that it was an attempt of vandalism, but I assure you I was merely adding new content that was cannoned by Marvel.

Please help resolve this issue,

Best regards, JP — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.113.214.43 (talk) 13:25, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am not familiar with Marvel. I will let another editor review your edits and my reverts so we can resolve this. How does that sound to you? Interstellarity (talk) 15:12, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

IRC nick

It appears that you asked at #wikipedia-en-help about how to delete your account.

Normally, you just stop using the nickname and, in the fullness of time, your registration will expire and someone else can potentially register it. You could ask a channel op to drop your old nick, which would cancel your registration immediately without waiting for it to expire. But the easiest thing to do is to simply stop using it, since it could be confusing if someone else started using the nick so soon after you stopped.

(If you had obtained a cloak on IRC, the process would likely be more complicated, but it doesn't appear that you did that.)

Happy editing and the IRC channels are still there if you want to use it, perhaps under a new nickname. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 21:58, 21 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser usage

Hi! In regards to the SPI you filed, the checkuser tool (which is used to compare IP addresses of users) is not allowed to be used to publicly disclose IPs as per the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy. (You can see some guidance here.) In general, you should only request checkuser evidence when either (1) there is evidence to suspect two or more user accounts, not IPs, of being operated abusively and the evidence is not so blatant as to warrant immediately blocking them, or (2) there is a blatant sockpuppet of a user known to make multiple abusive sockpuppets at the same time. In this case, the checkuser would be used to look for the undiscovered accounts. Bear in mind, however, that checkuser is not for fishing, and checkusers will not check users for sockpuppets merely on suspicions or hunches that user may have an unknown sockpuppet account. Let me know if you have any more questions! Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 23:40, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack?

Can you review this edit and the message on my talk page? Is this something I should be concerned about? Interstellarity (talk) 17:40, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Which message on your talk page? The only recent message is the one right above regarding this revert; while the content in that case doesn't look like a test edit to me, it was unsourced. I don't see any personal attacks there.
While the edit summary here wasn't civil, the IP editor is right on the issue: You shouldn't have reverted that edit. It's probably best to take it as a learning experience and to move on; escalating an uncivil comment in response to an inappropriate revert isn't going to do anybody any good. Huon (talk) 17:49, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon: It is not my intention to not be civil. I will try to learn from my mistakes. Thanks for pointing that out. Interstellarity (talk) 17:52, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, wrong link. The lack of civility that I meant wasn't yours but the IP editor's here with the "Maybe don't call yourself a Wikipedian" comment. Huon (talk) 18:35, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RM closure error

I think you meant to move Anne Klein (senator) to Anne Klein (politician) and to move James Esdaile (lord mayor) to James Esdaile (mayor) or perhaps to not move that one, but you seem to have moved Anne Klein (senator) to Anne Klein (mayor) and James Esdaile (lord mayor) to James Esdaile (politician). The move for Anne Klein especially looks like a mistake. Can you please check that? —BarrelProof (talk) 01:06, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Talk:Granny_(orca)#Requested_move_27_May_2019. I would like to link it without placing the page in that category. How do I do that? Thank you for the Wikipedians that helped me while contributing especially Huon who has helped me the most. Interstellarity T 🌟 20:39, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure what you want to do. If you want to link to a category page, add a colon at the beginning of the link: [[:Category:Individual killer whales]] gives Category:Individual killer whales. Huon (talk) 21:02, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting feedback

I finally saw your question at the Teahouse. I've been mostly off Wikipedia lately because of problems with my home internet service, still unresolved. As I think you've been advised, your editing is probably okay if nobody has been reverting you or complaining on your talk page. If a lot of what you do is reverting vandalism or other clearly disruptive editing, that's not necessarily likely to attract a lot of attention even though it's a very necessary activity.

Asking at the Teahouse and at the help desk is not considered good form, though, if you did that. Pick one place and only if there's no response after about 48 hours, then you might look for a different venue. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 18:35, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmcgnh: I try not to ask the same question in two different places. I asked at the help desk because 331dot told me to ask there because I have not received a response at the Teahouse since I asked the question. I apologize for not waiting long enough to ask somewhere else. Hope this helps. Interstellarity T 🌟 19:09, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes

I need help from the interface administrator. I would like to use this script when reviewing pending changes. However, when I see the pending changes, it only shows the diff, not the article with the changes implemented. Can an interface administrator edit that script or my script so that it shows both the diff and article with the changes implemented? Interstellarity T 🌟 14:43, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't what the {{admin help}} template is for. Nobody is going to edit other users' scripts in their userspace. If you want to change it, make a copy in your userspace and edit that. Reaper Eternal (talk) 21:17, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Reaper Eternal: I know how to copy scripts into my userspace. The problem is how to code the script to do what it wants to do which I do not know how to do. How do I contact interface administrators? Interstellarity T 🌟 01:10, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't what interface administrators are for. Interface administrators edit the site interface, not your personal customization(s). Try asking for help at Wikipedia:Village Pump (technical). Reaper Eternal (talk) 02:11, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Interstellarity, I think the script you removed was actually a different script, one that restored the old orange bar notification of messages on your talk page. I went ahead and removed the right script for you here. Let me know if that works for you; if it didn't, you might want to try refreshing your cache. The legacy toolbar had also been turned into an official gadget, so if it's *still* not working, it might be enabled through your preferences, in the Gadgets section. Third opinion on Coeliac disease

Hi there - I'd spotted you'd requested a 3O on an edit made on Coeliac disease and then undid it. I was about to make a comment at the place you requested it - not needed anymore? Steven Crossin 17:37, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Steven Crossin, I placed the help me template on the user's talk page because I didn't know how to help them. If you help them, please do so. Interstellarity T 🌟 17:38, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving

Can you delete Archive 1 of my user talk page and change it to Month/Year archiving please? I already set up a bot to do it for me. Interstellarity T 🌟 14:48, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For the deletion request, I have changed the template to {{admin help}}. This seems to be a bit premature though, as the old archive page may be useful for you to reconstruct the new month/year pages. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:45, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Generally, it is not recommended to delete archives. Specifically speaking about this instance, I would suggest to set up the bot as per your preference, and after the bot makes the first archive, then you can copy-paste the text from the archive page that you want to delete. @ToBeFree: erm... You did not deactivate the template. —usernamekiran(talk) 18:21, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Usernamekiran, I thought Interstellarity or an administrator could do the withdrawal/decline if needed. I have converted {{help me}} to {{admin help}} and provided thoughts about the request ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:46, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Usernamekiran and ToBeFree, I am not quite sure I understand what you are saying. You are welcome to set up the archiving for me or I can let an admin do it for me. Interstellarity T 🌟 18:57, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. Be bold, do some own experiments :) Learn by doing. Or, of course, someone will likely take the time to do that too, yes. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:03, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ToBeFree: An admin already deleted an archive of my talk page. Interstellarity T 🌟 20:28, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, your U1 deletion request has been answered. 🙂 I'm changing the template back to {{help me}}.
Could you clarify what exactly you'd like us to help with now? If the bot setup has already been done, all that is left seems to be manual restoration of old archives in the new format. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:31, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have replaced "%%i" by "'Y/m (F)'" per the documentation at User:ClueBot_III#format. Does this solve the request? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:34, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The documentation appears to be incorrect. I have removed the single quotation marks and will update the documentation if this works. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:07, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ClueBot archived some of my talk page messages. I requested speedy deletion for three pages here, here, and here and ClueBot automatically recreated two of them. Can a human with experience with bots determine whether ClueBot is working correctly. Should I switch back to lowercase sigmabot III? Interstellarity T 🌟 14:58, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ClueBot has created User talk:Interstellarity/Archive/2019/04 (April) after ToBeFree fixed an apostrophe issue. The pages ClueBot re-created correspond to that new archive; here is the re-creation of the third page, but now without the apostrophe. To me the bot seems to be working as intended. Huon (talk) 15:16, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; I have now updated the documentation at Special:Diff/905205782. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:16, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ToBeFree: Why did ClueBot pick random threads to archive rather than archive everything before that? Is there anything that needs fixing? Interstellarity T 🌟 16:17, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Interstellarity, ClueBot III looks at the version history, not the timestamps in the signatures. The other sections have recently been added to this page, so they are not being archived yet. If you'd like to move them to the correct archive locations, you can do so manually. It will work correctly in the future. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:23, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
