Why do so many edit requests show the same timestamp?

At Category:Wikipedia_conflict_of_interest_edit_requests there is a large number of requests that all have the exact same timestamp "2022-05-15 03:21", but if you go to the talk page where the request is made, the timestamps are not all the same. What's up? And is there anyway to fix it? I don't see this issue at CAT:ESP. RudolfRed (talk) 02:27, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@RudolfRed, there was a discussion here which resulted in a split, and when the split happened, all the pending requests were (for some reason) reset to show as being submitted on the split date. Someone asked about it here at the help desk a few weeks ago. 174.21.19.94 (talk) 02:58, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Link to previous discussion, for the curious: voila. 174.21.19.94 (talk) 03:02, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It transcludes User:AnomieBOT/COIREQTable which was created that day and apparently didn't try to date existing requests. The bot appears to look for diff times and not signature timestamps. I would ignore it. The issue should go away when the old requests are answered. Start answering them if you really want to fix it! PrimeHunter (talk) 03:00, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the replies and the explanations. RudolfRed (talk) 05:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Use of forward slash in article titles

There must be something on this somewhere in the various style guides but I can't find it. Is an article title in the format (for example) [[Petitlieu / Kleinort]] acceptable, i.e., names of the same topic or place in two different languages separated by a forward slash? My feeling is that it's not but I want to be able to back it with a policy or at least a guideline before I do anything more about it. Thanks, Ingratis (talk) Ingratis (talk) 04:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ingratis: Alternative names belong in redirects and the lead, not the title. See Wikipedia:Article titles#Treatment of alternative names. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:54, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm looking at articles relating to bilingual communities where there is no agreement over which is the primary language. Is there anywhere that says explicitly that forward slashes can't be used like this? Ingratis (talk) 05:03, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ingratis: I don't know a rule which explicitly spells out this scenario but it's clear from many statements at Wikipedia:Article titles#Deciding on an article title and elsewhere that article titles should not include alternative names. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Alternative names for a rule specific to geographic names. When we have a clear rule, we don't add a long list of scenarios which are clearly covered by the rule. PrimeHunter (talk) 05:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    OK - thanks. Ingratis (talk) 05:54, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Even the article for "slash city" does not get a slash in its name.   Maproom (talk) 06:58, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ingratis Some drug articles, including Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir = Paxlovid, a current hot topic, do have a slash in their title. These are for drugs sold in combination, however, not alternative names for a single drug. In the case of language names, I think that WP:COMMON applies, i.e. it is a question of what the sources say, not what those bilingual communities believe. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:13, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And Neustadt/Harz is a village but again, it's not alternative names. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:56, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Again, thanks! Ingratis (talk) 23:38, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Jacklin

I’m the co-author with Tony Jacklin of a new book ‘Tony Jacklin: My Ryder Cup Journey’. The URL for the book can be found on his Wiki page. Can you please add it to the list of books at the top of his page? Sportshippo (talk) 10:27, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and then discuss it on Talk:Tony Jacklin. At the absolute minimum, we'd need a better source to include the book than an image of the front cover. AndyTheGrump (talk) 11:14, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I’m new to wiki - could you please explain? Sportshippo (talk) 11:45, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sportshippo I have also commented on your similar request at the teahouse. Please stick to one venue. Meanwhile, please read the links that AndyTheGrump and I have provided. To add a book reference we need the ISBN and other details such as the author and publisher and date of publication, not a link to a picture of the front page. Hello, Campusbob. If you have an improvement to suggest to an article, please suggest it on the article's talk page - here, Talk:Samuel Gompers High School. Please note that all information included in a Wikipedia article should be verifiable from a reliable published source. ColinFine (talk) 14:55, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Campusbob The talk page is very inactive,so I encourage you to edit the article directly, but as @ColinFine said you need to find a reference. I suggest you search the New York Times. Otherwise searching www.books.google.com will give you short snips, that may lead you to books in your local library. Based on one of the book snips, it sound an interesting place "Samuel Gompers Vocational Technical High School in the South Bronx section of New York City was widely viewed as a " war zone"". Upload images

Hello, I uploaded 2 images but they were deleted. Please explain me what information of image should I provide? I downloaded the images from this site https://www.kinopoisk.ru/ . I asked from a support team of this site permission to use images in wikipedia. But they replied that I should to ask about this from a copyright holder. However I don't know who is copyright holder.

    Merle Hoffman Log In Info

    Hello,

I am writing on behalf of Merle Hoffman who has a Wikipedia page that someone at some point was handling a few years ago. We do not have the log in information and have attempted to try to obtain via "Forgot my password". We have tried both Merle Hoffman's personal and business email address and neither is receiving an email to reset.

Please advise if you can assist. I can be reached at (Redacted)

    Thank you!

If you had succeeded in getting a responce, it would have immediately led to that account being blocked. We do not allow shared accounts because it makes proper attribution pretty much impossible. Anyone can edit Merle Hoffman, as long as they comply with Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines. Your comments indicate that you have a Conflict of interest and may possibly be a Paid editor. You must make the necessary disclosures. Cullen328 (talk) 18:27, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Sotiria. It sounds as if you have a (very common) misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is and how it works. There is no concept of "logging into a page" or of being responsible for maintaining a page. The encyclopaedia article Merle Hoffman does not belong to her, and is not controlled by her. It may be edited by almost anybody in the world - with the notable exception of Hoffman and her associates, who are strongly discouraged from editing it directly, and should instead make Edit requests for any changes they would like to see. Note that the article should be almost entirely based on reliable published sources wholly unconnected with her, and not on what she or her associates say or want to say. Where to ask for a page review?

Hello, I've been working lately on the page Juan José Arreola and I want to continue working on it and improving it. I know more or less what its short-comings are (very few sources, for example) but I want to know more about what I can do to make it better. Is there any place on Wikipedia where someone can tell me what would be good for the page? What direction should I take to go beyond a 'Start' class article? Essentially I'm looking for a page review. Thanks. DemianStratford (talk) 19:00, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! There are multiple places to ask for a review. Probably easiest is to ask help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mexico or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. For a more thorough review, you can try WP:Peer review, but it sometimes takes a while to be picked up. For really fast feedback, you may want to consider joining the WP:DISCORD group. Hi All: I have been unable to log in to correct a grammatical error in the item Highland Valley Copper Mine, specifically in the sentence: "This operation of two mines in close proximity by the same company lead to a case brought before the Supreme Court of Canada on what constituted a mine for tax purposes". Claiming edits attributed to an IP address

Is there any way of claiming edits that are attributed to my IP address? I neglected to notice that I was not logged in. I think it is important that the edits be attributed to me as it may have some bearing on questions of copyright. Anyone with such questions would have no idea who to contact. The IP address if it matters or if someone can do something about it is 24.34.20.44. choogendyk (talk) 21:39, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Chris.Hoogendyk. If you want, you can put a note on your user page mentioning that you have edited logged out and mentioning your IP address if you are not concerned about privacy issues. Attribution to an IP address is just as good as attribution to a registered account, and there are no copyright concerns. Cullen328 (talk) 21:44, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But there's no way of changing the attribution from the IP address to me? Christopher G. Hoogendyk (talk) 17:33, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, Chris.Hoogendyk. You were logged out so other people could have used that IP address. There is no way to verify 100% that the edits were made by you. Cullen328 (talk) 17:42, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    All Fun and Games

I would like to move the article All Fun and Games to draftspace without leaving a redirect. How do I do that? I know it’s possible because I’ve seen non-administrators being able to perform this task. The Film Creator (talk) 01:06, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Film Creator, moving without leaving a redirect is only available to administrators and page movers. You can either request that the page be moved without leaving a redirect at WP:RM or move the page yourself and then tag the resulting redirect with {{db-r2}}. Typo errors

I repeatedly see the same errors with respect to a geographic location in Canada. People fail to mention the province. For example, you recently posted a picture from "Toronto, Canada." That is geographically, typographically and politically incorrect. It is "Toronto, Ontario," or if you wish, you could say "Toronto, Ontario, Canada." Just as you would never say "Chicago, United States" or "Los Angeles, USA," it is not "Toronto, Canada." I suggest you go through the entire Wikipedia publication and eliminate these references as they are entirely wrong. Drsrwatkins1956 (talk) 01:24, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Drsrwatkins1956. You're correct that "[city], Canada" is usually a grammatical error; according to Wikipedia's Manual of Style (specifically MOS:CANPLACE), that format should only be used in articles about non-Canadian subjects. With some exceptions, such as protected articles, articles on Wikipedia can be edited by anybody, so I encourage you to be bold and fix these erroneous Canada place names yourself. Quid Est Squid (talk) 02:02, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, it should never be used in any article. No one ever says, "Denver, United States" Right?? I do correct it as often as I see it but I cannot keep up with the ignorance of the great United States of America. Those folks have the worst education system of any country in the world.... Drsrwatkins1956 (talk) 02:16, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Drsrwatkins1956: The English Wikipedia currently has more than 6.5 million articles. It is edited by unpaid volunteers, about 100,000 of whom edit in any given 30-day period and only a few of whom read this help desk. Each volunteer does whatever tasks they feel like doing. If you want to find and fix these errors, feel free to do so. If you want to try to organize a group effort try posting at Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada. -Arch dude (talk) 02:07, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    I will do that! Thanks! Drsrwatkins1956 (talk) 02:17, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Two questions:
Under the wiki project Canada, where should I make my comment? Discussion board? Then, I don't see how to even make an entry. Drsrwatkins1956 (talk) 02:22, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Drsrwatkins1956:Each Wikiproject is maintained by its own self-selected members and they are all slightly different. Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada seems to want you to add a new section on its talk page, which they refer to by three inconsistent names, but it's still the talk page. After you reach the talk page, click on the "new section" tab on the top of the page and add your idea. It appears to be an active project with a long history, so you may want to look at the archives of the talk page to see if this has come up before. -Arch dude (talk) 02:54, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Done; thanks Dude.

You will need to write a well-referenced, neutral draft, and submit it through the Articles for creation process. Wikipedia is not a venue for marketing, promotion or advertising. In general, Wikipedia strongly discourages managers and artists themselves from trying to create their own articles. There are other places on the web that will better repay your efforts. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:44, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Spotify: worthless. Instagram: Worthless. Facebook: Worthless. YouTube: Worthless. Genius: Both the lyrics and biography are worthless (and the lyrics are almost certainly contributory infringement). Amazon: Worthless. iTunes: Worthless. It's like you didn't actually bother doing any sort of research and just laid a tonne of garbage sources in our lap because you can't be arsed to do so yourself, which means you also can't be arsed to actually put in the work on writing an acceptable article. New Music Weekly: Worthless. Billboard: Who the *&$^ wrote it? Wokechimp: Worthless. Yahoo: Murdered faster than Machine Gun Kelly by Killshot. Your Digital Wall: They explicitly disclaim ANY sort of fact-checking. Ratings Game Music: Shorter than this post I'm writing right now, which means it has dick to say. Visdumb: Astroturf bullshit. Wow Entrepreneurs: The tag search is worthless and the article it finds hides who wrote it like they're *(%%ing ashamed of being a black-hat SEO outlet. Republic News India: Who the *(%# wrote it?! WSVN: Says jack and shit about him, full stop, and Jack ragequit. Disrupt: These clowns wouldn't know an editor-in-chief if one defenestrated themselves from their office. Vents: Blahdedy-blahdedy-blah from the guy himself. The Source: Their editorial staff is garbage and has conflicts-of-interest. Rapper Weekly: Where's the editorial staff? Hip Hop Since 1987: More of this guy's hibbidy-huplaa. 24 Hip-hop: This guy loves hearing himself speak, huh? This is 50: Explicitly disclaims accuracy. Hip Hop Weekly: WHO. THE. FUCK. WROTE. THIS.
It's kinda hard to write an article, especially about someone who is presumably still alive, when all the sources you have are garbage. And if this is the best that is available in a Google search, the chance of JPOPD1 having an article is about as small as the chance of you being the last conflict-of-interest editor Wikipedia ever sees. We don't exist to do your damn marketing job for you (and in fact we can't), and writing a new article is a much steeper commitment than you will likely ever realise. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 03:46, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Content manipulation: By interest groups, a concern...

As a lover of Wikipedia, since the very early days, I was dismayed to read this BBC News article this morning. It really bothers me. I have always had faith in Wikipedia, feeling it really did get its fact right, and balanced. Now I see that even Wiki can be manipulated. No one should have the right to insert their own bias, it becomes a "who has the most and fastest fingers" to skew the content to match their passion. And now, they have the audacity to boast about it on BBC. 'Tis Sad.

(to make my case clear; I am not a Climate Change denier, but I do seriously doubt that it is CO2 emissions by Human Activity that is the cause of the current apparent increase in the Global Ambient) 2001:8003:857A:D300:D4C2:35C3:FE4:B986 (talk) 06:26, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I'm one of the editors featured in that article. Wikipedia has a bias towards the scientific literature. Even though some general media may present it otherwise, there is a near-complete consensus among experts that human activity via CO2 emissions is to blame for global warming, see for instance this article. To insert the opinion of non-experts in our articles would give a false balance. Femke (talk) 06:59, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Highlighted text automatically gets copied to clipboard

While editing an article, when I highlight some text, it automatically gets copied to my clipboard. If I copy some other text, then that text will not be pasted, rather, the highlighted text will. This is a recent problem, so I'm guessing it has something to do with my settings or it's a Wikipedia bug. Can someone help me fix this? Toofllab (talk) 08:39, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I can't replicate this fault with Windows 10 Pro and Google Chrome. By default, Chrome and Windows don't automatically copy text to the clipboard when it is selected. Some extensions to the browser or Windows might do this. Also try another browser such as Edge, or try a different computer, or a different website. It doesn't seem likely that Wikipedia is doing this or there would have been other complaints by now.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:09, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Instagram is absolutely NOT a reliable source, if there is a lack of sources it indicates that the topic may not be notable. Theroadislong (talk) 10:13, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In an article otherwise based entirely on independent sources, it is acceptable to cite self-published sources for a small amount of non-controversial information. But that is as far as you can go with such sources. ColinFine (talk) 12:05, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Citing Sebastian's mother's Instagram account for anything regarding Sebastian would violate WP:BLPSPS: Never use self-published sources—including but not limited to books, zines, websites, blogs, and tweets—as sources of material about a living person, unless written or published by the subject of the article. Missing Page/information

Between 1985 and 1988, I was stationed at the Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Marine Barracks Security Forces, Guard Company West Loch, Naval Magazine Lualualei. The ONLY reference anywhere in Wikipedia to the US Marines stationed on or around Pearl Harbor are in reference to the Dec 7th attack. The Marine Security Force at Pearl Harbor was established there in 1923, and was deactivated in 1993, YET THERE ISN'T ANY REFERENCE TO ANY OF THAT IN WIKIPEDIA!!

WHY NOT? There is a wonderful, colorful, vitally important, historically rich, story of the US Marines at Pearl Harbor, and yet, NOT ONE MENTION OF THEM. Not even a Google search will produce much information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jrfireball (talkcontribs) 16:19, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Wikipedia is written by volunteers like you. I'm noticing some information post-WWII in Naval Station Pearl Harbor, but maybe it can be improved. If you have good reliable sources about the topic, WP:be bold and add them to a relevant article. Femke (talk) 16:33, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But if "Not even a Gooogle search will produce much information" it will ba harder to incorporate such information into Wikipedia. Perhaps it is mostly in pre-internet printed books: those are perfectly good sources, provided they were published by reliable publishers; but you need access to a copy of the book to add information from it. Note that personal knowledge is not sufficient: we require all information in an article to be verifiable. ColinFine (talk) 16:47, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies if I'm misunderstanding something – my background is more Army – but don't most, if not all, US naval bases have a contingent of Marines? If so, their presence at a particular base would only be notable, and worth mentioning in that base's article, if they had done something particularly significant there.
If they had, it might be mentioned in the article, or a separate article could be written about the incident, or (given suitable sources) a separate article could be written specifically about that marine establishment. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.201.73.20 (talk) 13:06, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You can make recommendations for changes to the article by reading that history, finding references in reliable sources to back up the changes, and then adding your reccommencations to the article's talk page. Dealing with unreliable source (About The Artists)

Not an issue for Help desk. Referred elsewhere.

Based on their help page, I think About The Artists is an example of user-generated content. It appears to be cited in a bunch of places anyway. What should I do about it?

To be specific, let's focus on Charlie Day#Theatre (though I do mostly care about the general principles here). A Google search turns up [2], which I think is a reliable source for the second three plays. I can't find anything for the first three; should I remove them? They don't seem "contentious" (the word WP:BLP uses). Should I just remove the source and slap a {{citation-needed}} on them? Is it better to have a poor source than no source?

    Thanks, WallAdhesion (talk) 01:21, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Am I allowed to do this

Hi there! I am writing to you today because I would like to ask if I am allowed to edit Help:Archiving (plain and simple). Basically, I want to add the setup auto archiving template to the page above the cluebot template so that editors who are reading the easier help page, get to choose between ClueBot III and Lowercase sigmabot III. I was having real issues with this for some reason. I initially used cluebot although it wasn’t working. Another editor let me use their template for a while and then I found the template to have the lowercase sigmabot default, so it’s sorted now. I wanted to add the template to the page although I’m not sure if I have to go through some process (letting other editors know for example) or if I am even allowed to at all. I do have the ability to, but I just though I would check anyway. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blanchey (talkcontribs)

    Russian Wikipedia about Minsk agreements

The page in Russian language about Minsk agreements uses the inappropriate wording while referring to Ukraine. The article strictly uses “on Ukraine”, which is used only while talking about regions and parts of another country. This wording is considered as a complete ignorance of the independence status of a country.

The wording HAS TO BE “in Ukraine”. However, while trying to edit the article, Wikipedia Russia comes back with a page saying that they came up with the ‘consensus’ to use “on Ukraine”. This is absolutely inappropriate.

How this editing issue can be solved?

P.S. it is correct in Russian language to use an article “in” while referring to another country, which is not an island. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.139.191.148 (talk) 17:45, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    BLACK BIRD mini series

     Courtesy link: Black Bird (miniseries)

The plot description in your Wikipedia profile is not correct and not accurate. James "Jimmy" Keene did have 4 major scholarships to play football and wrestle, but all were out of state and James wanted to stay close to his thriving marijuana business in Chicago. James turned those scholarships down and decided to stay living in Chicago and decided to go to a nationally ranked football and wrestling team at junior college. The reason James chose not to take the scholarships is because they were out of state, and he would be to far away from his business financial source. So, the part about James not being considered by colleges for his football is not true. This is clearly stated in James books and in the series about James's life "BLACK BIRD" even in the Black Bird series episode one, they let it be known James had major football scholarships. So that whole part in your plot summary has to be taken out because its plain and simply not true. Also James was never arrested in real life for guns that was fictionalized for the series, but since it never actually happened it really does not need to be in the plot. The whole charge James was ever arrested for was a hearsay conspiracy and after James successfully completed the serial killer case the hearsay conspiracy charge was erased and James's record was scrubbed clean and James has no conviction on his record at all, not even a traffic ticket. This is made very clear in James's books and will be made very clear in the 6th episode of the "BLACK BIRD" series, in that episode James goes back in front of the judge after having successfully completed the serial killer case and the judge drops everything and lets it be known James's record is cleared completely. So this part on your plot should be changed or just taken out because James was cleared of everything. 2601:243:601:DEE0:109D:9A6A:777C:5B98 (talk) 20:04, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@2601:243:601:DEE0:109D:9A6A:777C:5B98: I've not seen the series, but it seems to me that you are confusing the plot synopsis of a television adaptation based on a real life story, with the real life story about the protagonist. I suppose there could be a section describing the differences in the plot versus real life, such as "Fictional elements", providing you can source them. But you're better off discussing this on the talk page. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:45, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I researched and added some useful information with reference links but added company history that I received from the brand company without references (as per the research not found any reference link) thinking that it's history data.

After a week, someone from the wiki admin, undo all the changes and now all my changes are removed from that page, however, the content those have relevant references is also removed, and now I am not able to undo my relevant changes.

Can anyone help on this making this success?

The changes I want to revert:

1- Fact Data (URL Correction, Industry Type, Owner name, Product name addition etc.)

    2- CSR Data

    3- Award & Winning data

Please let me know to whom I have to connect and how? If anyone can check my changes for that brand and revert would be very helpful.

Hello Sandeepsri16d. I'm afraid that (like many people) you have a misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia's article about your company does not belong to your company, is not controlled by your company, and should not be directly edited by you or anybody else associated with your company. Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources.
Your changes were reverted (by an editor who is not an admin) because they were promotional. Promotion of any kind is forbidden anywhere on Wikipedia.
You must make a formal declaration of your status as a paid editor
You should not directly edit any article about a subject you are connected to.
You may submit edit requests (see that link for details) on the talk page of such articles, with sources (preferably ones totally unconnected with the subject of the article) and an uninvolved editor (who may or may not be an administrator) will decide whether to implement your suggestion in whole or in part, according to Wikipedia's principles. ColinFine (talk) 09:56, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sandeepsri16d: Let me add to the excellent advice above and strongly encourage you to not include any unsourced info in your edit request. It is a established principle that if something was not written about by an independent source, it should not be included in the article. It helps us simultaneously with notability and reliability of facts. Also, you can go to the history tab to collect the info you added, if you want to add sources to it before submitting as an edit request. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 12:08, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add a spouse parameter to an infobox

Hey all I am trying to be able to use a Spouse" Parameter for this infobox, please help.

I want to add it to this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darin_Burns Wevaflava (talk) 14:32, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I can't think of any good reason why the infobox for a professional sportsperson would need a 'spouse' parameter. Such matters generally belong in the 'personal life' section of a biography. And incidentally, should be properly sourced - something lacking in the article on Burns. AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:41, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can see, the full template at Template:Infobox Canadian Football League biography already includes a spouse parameter. However, I agree that it should not be used unless properly sourced, as the documentation mentions. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:29, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the spouse parameter should generally only be used if the person themselves is notable i.e. they have a Wikipedia article. We don't need to link to non-notable people in infoboxes. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:37, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox Canadian Football League biography does not have a spouse parameter. Wevaflava added it to the documentation but it's not supported by the actual infobox so I have reverted the documentation. Template:Infobox Canadian Football League biography#Military service mentions it can embed another infobox which does have a spouse parameter. Template:Infobox military person says "Notable spouse if verifiable from a reliable source." Infoboxes for sportspeople do generally not mention spouses. See Template talk:Infobox Canadian Football League biography/Archive 2#spouse/partner for an old brief discussion. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:23, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It refers to review by WP:New pages patrol. There is a long list of "unreviewed" articles at Special:NewPagesFeed, new page patrollers (who have a certain user right) can mark articles as reviewed after doing a number of checks. I believe the main difference between reviewed and unreviewed articles to be that the former are indexed by search engines (the latter too, if older than 90 days). 129.67.116.200 (talk) 21:37, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus for identical edits across a number of articles

I believe that the "Terminology" and "Context" sections in "Abortion in [US-State]" articles (e.g., Abortion in Tennessee) should be removed as they are extraneous by not being specific to the state in question. These sections are virtually identical across all "Abortion in [US-State]" articles. I intend to remove them, but want to avoid the inevitable reverts as well as potential contraventions of mass editing-related policies. If I were to seek consensus for the entire removal, where should I go? Wikipedia:WikiProject Abortion? I'm not entirely sure what the current status of WikiProject-based consensus is. 129.67.116.200 (talk) 21:34, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

When you cannot find a specific guideline for a situation, revert to general principles to create a process for your case. You clearly started with the right principle: seek consensus. I think you should put your proposal on the talk page of the project and then put a "pointer" to it (i.e., a short new section asking that comments be made on the project talk page) on the talk page of each affected article asking for comments to see if you get a consensus. After a few days a consensus will congeal or you will get no response. If no response, start making your change on a few articles, with edit summaries pointing to the discussion, to see if it stimulates comments. If still no responses, make all the changes. -Arch dude (talk) 04:24, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Redirecting trouble

I want to redirect Anwar Mosque to Grand Anwar Mosque and I attempted to redirect page by reading Help pages despite none of them are working. The Supermind (talk) 07:26, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    A request

I really apologize for this bizzare request. I feel I have been struggling mentally and it currently took some toll on my academic life and my physical health recently.

However, I still feel a need to finish some of my GAN and todolists and Wikipedia starts to feel like a chore (I know it shouldnt, there's essay on that). Also its been hard to finish articles and I instead accidently made some articles look worse after my clean up/expansion, in addition that doing research also became very tedious.

So, I am requesting any administrator to block me for probably a year with no compromise (not even talk pages, I feel like myself could "change" my mind latter and suddenly request unblock which current me do not want to, so its a prevention against my future self), fails all my GAN, and my DYKN that has no QPQ (iirc there's only one, the other one which is Palu should be fine).

I really apologize for my GAN reviewers that has been very thorough, but I do feel I need a "hard no-compromise enforced" Wiki break now.

If the request is not possible, may I know the closest one to what I was thinking?

Again, apologize for this weird and bizzare request. Thank you~ Nyanardsan (talk) 10:49, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    It's not so weird. I have done as requested. 331dot (talk) 11:08, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Although in future, WP:AN is probably the better location to request something like this. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:12, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How do I start a proposal?

    HI.

Even editing one single articles talk page has taken the better portion of my day, lol. So I really want to avoid spending too much time on this. A lot of people have entrenched positions and Ive realised even ideas that I had that I thought were unique have been discussed before. I have now one relatively harsh but straightforward solution to the problems the article I am referencing has faced since 2014. I would like to put it up to a vote the way I have seen other things voted on and basically Im content in accepting the outcome of the vote, mostly because I feel exhausted already.

    The article in question is:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_occupations?wprov=srpw1_0

It has faced since 2014 issues and constant discussions about what sources to use in the case of whether or not a takeover of a territory with its polity and governing structure is an occupation. (Recently theres even a conflict on whether or not to merge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_occupations_since_1907 with the above article, as it was done unilaterally by one guy).

My proposal, that would cute a significant portion of those discussions, is that an annexation (or colonization) if intended by the occupying power to be permanent transforms the entity from one currently occupied to one currently annexed (or colonized). This follows the definition found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_occupation

"Military or belligerent occupation, often simply occupation, is provisional control by a ruling power over a territory, without a claim of formal sovereignty.[1][2][3] The territory is then known as the occupied territory and the ruling power the occupant.[4] Occupation is distinguished from annexation and colonialism by its intended temporary duration.[3][5] While an occupant may set up a formal military government in the occupied territory to facilitate its administration, it is not a necessary precondition for occupation.[6]"

Meaning that the terms would be mutually exclusive and that a territory currently "annexed" (illegally or not - but always practically) would be moved to "previously occupied" list as opposed to "currently occupied".

My question is how do I start a vote on that proposal?

EDIT: Some guy told me that this is what you guys call "RFC". Would you guys recommend I do a RFC? Are there any other solutions? If my account is not 30 days or older, should I wait before making the RFC? How much can I participate in a RFC? Stuff like this. Basically any good tips you can give me on this would be helpful. If someone has some good examples of well made RFCs that would be fantastic too. 83.252.116.25 (talk) 11:35, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussions on Wikipedia are not a vote, but a process for determining consensus. It seems you've already started a discussion with involved editors, and reading the discussion I don't think getting other editors involved will change much. The current consensus is to rely on what reliable sources say, the standard option for wikipedia. Your proposal seems to require editors to make judgement based on variably-interpretable criteria, which tends to lead to more issues than it solves, especially for something as often controversial as military occupation. Is there a list of successful proposals?

Definition of marriage equality, same-sex marriage, civil unions, registered cohabitation and unregistered cohabitation

A couple of days go Andorra reformed its family law to define "matrimoni" (marriage) as either the (already existing) Roman Catholic canonical marriage or a new "casament" legal instrument that is said to be open to both opposite-sex and same-sex couples, and fully equal to Roman Catholic canonical marriage. Except, as I pointed out in the discussion pages of the article, the use of a different term for religious and secular "marriage" may point to the fact that indeed what Andorra just passed is a form of civil-unions law which just happens to be extremely similar to marriage. The page is being renamed to **Same-sex marriage in Andorra**, and the Same-sex union map that is often found in LGBT and Europe related articles will probably be changed to portray Andorra.

Likewise, the Slovenian high court recently declared limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples inconsistent with the equality clause in Slovenia's constitution, and "legalized same-sex marriage". The ruling is said to be immediately executive, but then the Parliament has to pass law to amend the family code, and it's not entirely impossibile IMHO that the Parliament may chose to go the path of further making already existing same-sex civil unions closer to opposite-sex marriage, while keeping the two things separate. The same-sex unions map of Europe has already been changed to portray Slovenia as a country with same-sex marriage. All the sources for this news seem to be copied from one single source (perhaps a press-release from the consititutional court itself).

A similar case happens with Italy where the same-sex civil-union law passed in 2016 is meant to create a legal device that is 80% equivalent to marriage, but is not marriage itself. Wikipedia correctly describe this case as a civil-union case.

So we are having a bit of inconsistencies here, both because of how the laws of each country are made, and/or because we assume that still in-fieri legislation is being finalized when editing.

    1. How do we define Civil Union? Is there a need to differentiate Civil Unions in two grades, one for civil unions that are "almost" like marriage but not, and another grade for civil unions that are weaker in rights given? 2. How do we define Same-sex Marriage? Only as full Marriage Equality (same law, same terms, just the code is update to remove rules or wording that requires people to be of opposite sex) or for "parallel" legislations that may be in different law than where marriage is definied, or with suspicious wording that may point to same-sex and opposite-sex marriage to be different or meant to diverge over time? 3. Likewise, how do we define lesser forms of recognition of same-sex unions? 4. What are the watersheds? 5. What do we do for Andorra and Slovenia, until it's clear the legal status of same-sex "marriage" in those two countries? Touyats (talk) 14:13, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
