Template:Future Miss Universe 2008, the 57th Miss Universe beauty pageant, will be held at the Diamond Bay Resort in Nha Trang, Vietnam, next July. [1] The Official Press Release announces that over 80 contestants [2] are expected to arrive in Vietnam. The winner of Miss Universe 2008 will also star in season two of the reality show Pageant Place which currently stars Riyo Mori, Rachel Smith and Hilary Cruz as they live together in the Trump Tower in New York which is broadcasted on MTV. This event will be broadcasted to over 180 countries of around the globe via CNBC and Telemundo with global viewers topping over 1 billion.

Returning states and territories

No Shows

  •  Panama - The Miss Panama contest was cancelled in 2005 after a decline in the ratings. The representative to Miss Universe 2007 was "hand-picked". The former organizing network announced plans on re-activating the contest but they never took place.

Replacements

  •  France - Suggestive photos of Valérie Bègue appeared in the press shortly after she was crowned Miss France. As a result of breaking the rules against taking compromising pictures Bègue is banned from competing for France in international pageants. [43] The French committee will be sending the second runner-up, Miss Pays de Loire, Laura Tanguy,to represent France at Miss Universe because the first one, Miss New Caledonia Vahinerii Requillart, wants to continue to study.   •  Sweden - Isabel Lestapier Winqvist, decided to resign from the title, after failing to communicate with the Swedish sponsors. She was replaced by her first runner-up.

Notes

  •  Norway - Starting in 2008, only one winner will be elected Frøken Norge (Miss Norway) and she will attend both the Miss Universe and Miss World contests.
