The Hyderabad Elevated Expressways is collective name for the 2 Elevated Expressways coming up in the city of Hyderabad, India.

Project Details

P.V. Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway:(Mehdipatnam — Aramghar Junction [11.6 km])

This is a 11.6 km Elevated Expressway mainly to connect the city with the Hyderabad International Airport. The entire stretch was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh K.Rosaiah on 2009-10-19. Currently there are no entry or exit points in the entire stretch of the expressway. Vehicles must travel the entire stretch to exit the expressway or turn back through the gap in medians provided at 3 points for emergency use. Slow moving vehicles are not allowed on the expressway.[1]

Construction Timeline

This expressway was constructed for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority in two phases: In the first phase the section from the RTA office in Mehdipatnam and to Hyderguda in Rajendernagar Mandal covering a distance of 5.1 km was constructed. In the second phase the stretch from Hyderguda to Aramghar Junction covering a distance of 6.5 km.

2007:

  • The project is being executed by the contractor Simplex-Somdatt.
  • The project is delayed as at least 30% of the work lags behind schedule.[2]

Aug 2008:

  • The project is delayed further because of the rains and water logging.[3]
  • Expected to be inaugurated on 15th August 2009.[4]

Oct 2009

  • The Project is almost completed and trail run is held on Oct 2nd 2009.[5]
  • The Express Highway is scheduled to be inaugurated on 19th Oct 2009.[6]
  • The Express Highway is inaugurated on 19th Oct 2009 by Chief Minister K Rosaiah.

Rajiv Elevated Expressway: Parade Grounds — Shamirpet [20 km]

This is a 20 km Elevated Expressway from Parade Grounds to Shamirpet on Rajiv Rahadari. It was proposed by R&B department and approved by the Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.[7]

Project Status

Sep 2008 The project is approved by the govt. of AP. It is to be executed by BOT basis.
