Marot
You recently edited Marot, so I'm writing to you with this. I'm not a regular en.wp contributor and I don't know the relevant procedures. Marot was a disambiguation page until a user overwrote it with a city article. The page's history needs to be split up and either the recent edits or the older edits need to be moved to another lemma. I hope you can help resolve the problem with the page. Thanks --::Slomox:: >< 22:37, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Carbis Bay Hotel
On 4 April 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Carbis Bay Hotel, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Virginia Woolf stayed at the Carbis Bay Hotel in the spring of 1914 for three weeks whilst recovering from a bout of mental illness? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Commons user
Hello Doctor! Just wondering, are you Commons:User:Blofeld Dr. and Commons:User:Dr. Blofeld? Rehman 10:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Its a clone.. I forgot my password for Dr. Blofeld♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- A SUL account should use the same password, AFAIK. From what I heard before, you could have (although maybe too late now) contacted a 'crat to help you get you password back. Considering you own the "Dr. Blofeld" global account, from what I see, you should be able to actually take back the username "Dr. Blofeld" back, by:
- Renaming the current "Dr. Blofeld" to "Blofeld-Temp"
- Renaming the current "Blofeld Dr." (your current account) to "Dr. Blofeld"
- Renaming "Blofeld-Temp" to "Blofeld Dr.", and blocking the account (as a user can have only open account).
- Would you be interested in that? But you should note that you have "Blofeld Dr." global account too. Either way, one of your account (of your preference) needs to be redirected/blocked as I said above. Shall I block "Dr. Blofeld", or would you like to take back the username, and block "Blofeld Dr."? Rehman 11:41, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- The reason the global account doesn't work is because I was originally User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld, then User:Blofeld of SPECTRE and then Dr. Blofeld which messed up the commons name. It does my head in having to log into and out as Blofeld, Dr. ow but I'd have to do it even if i remebered by Dr. Blofeld commons password. I did request to rename my account recently but anybody with over 25,000 edits is not permitted..♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:30, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, I couldn't find any 25k accountrename limit at Commons. Technically it should not be impossible, and could be easily performed during server off-peak time... For now, I will redirect/protect/block the "Dr. Blofeld" account. If a workaround is found in the renaming, we could always do that. Kind regards. Rehman 13:38, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

- Hi there, concerning the the renaming, you may be interested to see Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard/Archive 21#Re: Rename edit count limitation: Is this new? which has bumped the limit up to 50,000 (still to low for you, I know). Interestingly, someone also said that whenever something called "r84228/r83494" takes effect there won't be a limit at all. How long that may take appears to be unknown though.... Just thought you might be interested in the question I just asked at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions#Possible change in licensing at the Atlas of Canada/Natural Resources Canada. - I don't know about the pictures. I will try to clean up Guillermo Divito, Rico Tipo, Adolfo Mazzone and El Mundo (Argentina), which are your fault for causing the Piantadino AfD. I am tempted to submit a 5-way DYK on these, but having inflicted authenticity in art on reviewers/readers think it is best to stay away from DYK for a few weeks. The article Adam and Evil (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails WP:FILM. No Google News results other than IMDb (which is unreliable).
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 01:22, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Quito map
I'll have a go at putting that in some articles later. Lately my participation here has been kind of sporadic, largely due to my health. I took another trip to Ecuador and came down with something quite nasty shortly after getting back. Today is my 14th straight day of fever (!!) but both today and yesterday have had significant normal-temperature chunks, so I hope that I am finally getting better. Went to see an infectious disease specialist today and they're running more tests. (Malaria again, histoplasmosis, CMV, etc...) Tested for dengue earlier, and my antibodies confirmed that that was what I had in 2009 when I was sick. Now waiting to get back a second dengue test to see if I have it again (if it's a repeat infection you need to do paired tests to compare - just one can't tell you). I'm sure I'm an interesting case for the doctors - "So, I just got back from the jungle on the border between Ecuador and Peru, and I got tons of bug bites, and I went spelunking, and I went swimming in fresh water, and I walked around barefoot a lot, and when I was in the cave a bat flew into my head..." Anyways, when I'm feeling like shit I haven't been on here at all! But when I'm feeling so-so and bored in bed I've been writing a lot. :) We'll see how today goes! Changanassery
A comprehensively informative page on this town has disappeared from Wikipedia and replaced by trivia. This town is in Kerala, southern India, about which historians are still conducting researches. I did my bit and, in fact, the contents of the page were widely accepted. Similar articles on Kottarakkara and Mallappally also disappeared. Interestingly, these were copied by other sites and I have seen articles in the print by historians giving credit to those sites! I wasn't aware of the changes till I was called for a seminar where a professor of history told me that the original articles were no longer available in Wikipedia.
Now, I have more materials for reference which will enable students and historians to carry out their work further. Unfortunately I cannot add them! History, in India, can not be recorded the way it is done in Europe where many materials preserved for centuries are available for researchers for writing articles or creating documentaries. Here in India the process of discovering manuscripts, tablets etc is still going on. I think what went wrong is that contributions are weighed in a rigid manner.
How come?
Rajankanjirakunnil (talk) 05:10, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Replaced by trivia? Really? I left information which is supported by reliable sources on demographics and politics. Far from trivial, in fact it is the trivial stuff I always remove form such articles!!! Read Wp:No Original Research, WP:Reliable sources, and WP:NPOV . If I removed anything it was because it was likely poorly written or exceptionally difficult to read, containing POV, not notable or too tourist guide like and unsourced and original research. Readd material in a neutral, well written fashion with adequate sourcing and it likely won't be removed. I see I removed this. It was added in good faith by you and not nice to have hard work removed but I'm being honest in that it warbles and is very difficult to read. If you like I can paste it into User:Rajankanjirakunnil/Changanassery and you give it a complete rewrite and try to find a few sources and I'll give it a read after you've finished , copyedit it and restore it once it is improved? Word of advice it needs serious condensing into punchy, structured paragraphs which stick to the main points and containing at least one or two sources. Indian historians should be ashamed with themsevles for relying on original research and plagiarizing wikipedia.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:07, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Woah tone it down Dr. B... theres no need to BITE here. Rajankanjirakunnil, your contributions have been removed due to, as Dr. Blofeld mentions, concerns about original research, lack of sourcing and, at times, a non-neutral tone.
The first of these (original research or OR) is hard to correct without reverting, it means that your own ideas are starting to creep into an article, Wikipedia doesn't publish original thoughts or theories, but rather tries to collect published ideas together.
The second concern is a lack of reference to reliable sources in your edits - Wikipedia gathers together information which has already been published in sources such as academic journals, news websites, authoratative history books/websites etc. In order to demonstate that the information you are adding is reliable and can be verified by the end user, your asked to include references in the form of footnotes at the bottom of the page. If you want to make a statement like 'The word Changanacherry is supposedly derived from "Changanattusserry" (ചങ്ങനാട്ടുശ്ശേരി) and has its roots, perhaps, in trading activities.' then you need to provide a citation to a source which says that. The idea is that we don't put anything up which a well-resourced user couldn't find out for themselves if they put the effort in, but you need to show that the information your adding can be found.
The third is that you, at times, have used a tone which is not neutral. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and should keep an academic tone as much as possible. This means we don't like to sing the praises of things we write about, but just present the facts, much like you would in a journal article or a piece of coursework - it is usually a bad idea to use words and phrases like 'marvelous', 'An interesting story' or 'commendable' or to adopt a conversational tone like 'Hold your breath......the history of Thekkumkoor is not only foggy but also mysterious and your mind falls in to a quagmire of utter chaos when you learn that some people believed that the last ruler was....not a Raja, but a Rani ! Shame on you Malayali historians!'. This problem can normally fixed by other editors but it is best to avoid altogether.
If you keep these policies in mind when contributing, I'm sure you'll be able to continue making valuable additions to wikipedia. Bob House 884 (talk) 13:49, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
BITE? I don't follow, sorry. I offered him a way to salvage what he wrote in his user space as I said it was written in good faith. My only "heated" comment was in regards to professional historians who would copy such unsourced material and publish it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:58, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
