Endorsements in the 2012 Republican Party presidential primaries
Presidential candidates won a number of key endorsements during the 2012 presidential primaries. The winning of endorsements, also known as the Endorsement Race or Endorsement Derby, is argued to be a vital feature of the United States presidential race and the political party system. Political scientists debate the importance and influence that endorsements have on presidential races, both in securing the nomination, and in wooing voters. In the 2012 cycle, endorsers demonstrated their confidence in several presidential candidates, and the winner, Mitt Romney, was said to have the confidence of a majority of established Republican leaders.[1]
