People's Front (Ukrainian: Народний фронт; sometimes translated as Popular Front[1]) is a political party of Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Oleksandr Turchynov created in 2014.[1] Beside the above mentioned names, number of other members such as Tetyana Chornovol, Dmytro Tymchuk, Mykhailo Havrylyuk and others will run for the 2014 Ukrainian parliamentary election.[1]

Yatsenyuk and Turchynov are former members of Batkivshchyna.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

History

The party was registered at the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice on 31 March 2014.[9] Yatsenyuk and Turchynov became discontent with their party of the time, Batkivshchyna, when on 21 August 2014 the party's political council had decided that Yulia Tymoshenko would head the party list of Batkivschyna in the 26 October 2014 Ukrainian parliamentary election.[9][10] People's Front held its first party congress on 10 September 2014[1] On this congress Yatsenyuk was elected chairman of the political council of People's Front and Turchynov was elected to head its central headquarters.[9] At the time Yatsenyuk was Prime Minister of Ukraine and Turchynov Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament.[9] Several high ranking members of battalions of territorial defense in Ukraine, who at the time fought in the War in Donbass, also were founding members of the party.[1] In his speech to the (first) party congress Yatsenyuk called for "unification and unity of all democratic forces" since this would be "The recipe for our victory".[11]
