Map

Oh no, the map has been updated, seems you need to create a new map to meet the source. :( — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 13:45, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

I have already informed him. This map is issued daily during this hazy period. Arctic Kangaroo () 14:15, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
I think this haze would reach my place based on this map. — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 14:17, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
I think I'll wait until NEA releases the map for 22 June (today) so my efforts won't go to waste too quickly. ;) Oliverlyc 04:26, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
No problem. Arctic Kangaroo () 05:06, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi Oliver, I notice the 2 maps don't show how Singapore was so badly affected by the haze. Is there any way to retrieve the maps from one of the worst days and you create it for comparison? Cheers. Arctic Kangaroo () 14:27, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Well I can't find the old maps - could you help me with this? Thanks a million! Oliverlyc 14:28, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
I may have found them, but please give me a while. If what I have found are what we need, you will need to download Google Earth to view them. You don't need to do anything yet, just wait a few minutes for my update. Arctic Kangaroo () 14:45, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
Do you mean yesterday map? (22 June)? I found it here. — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 14:47, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
@RU: I did not check that website, but thanks bro. Arctic Kangaroo () 14:52, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
@Oliver: Ranking found it. Now just change the date in the URL accordingly. It would be best if you can create a map for every one of them to show the progress. Thanks. Arctic Kangaroo () 14:52, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
And before you create any map, I just want to tell you that I prefer the red dots on the 23 June map, and the line colours on 19 June map. But it's all up to you. Cheers. Arctic Kangaroo () 14:55, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
@Arctic Kangaroo: Glad the marufish.com still keep the map. I wonder why the original website didn't keep it or put it on their web archive. — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 14:57, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
And the map start from 16 June – present. What a complete collection. :) — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 15:00, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
@Oliver: I have downloaded every single map. Maps 19 and 23 are GIF files (from NEA), while Maps 16-18, 20-22 are PNG files (marufish.com). Just tell me if you are too lazy and want me to email the complete set to you. Cheers. Arctic Kangaroo () 15:04, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
I downloaded those maps for records, so I can gaze at them in future. Arctic Kangaroo () 15:07, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
Great idea Arctic, so even when they (the website) delete those map, you still have all the copies. :P — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 15:12, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Modified User Page

Hi, Oliverlyc, you'll likely not be pleased about this but I have removed a number of edits to your userspace which reveal too much personally identifiable information about yourself. I've done this per policy and for your own protection and safety on-line as you are a self-declared minor. I'm really sorry about that and I know it's annoying, but it's for the best. Please don't re-add it. For some useful information on privacy and safety, take a look at Wikipedia:Guidance for younger editors. Thanks, and sorry for messing about with your pages. Cheers, ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble13:51, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
Ouch... Okay, I won't readd the information, but I still think you should have at least left a note on my talk page and with me acknowledging the information before you go on and delete the information, or better still have me delete the information. But anyway, thanks. Oliverlyc 07:53, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Huggle 3

Hey Oliverlyc! I am Petrb, one of core developers of Huggle, the antivandalism tool, which you are beta testing (according to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers). I am happy to announce that Huggle 3 is ready for some testing. You can read more about it at WP:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta. Please keep in mind that this is a development version and it is not ready for regular use. That means you must:

  • Watch your contribs - when anything happens you didn't want, fix it and report a bug
  • Frequently checkout source code and build latest version, we change it a lot

If you find any problem with a feature that is supposed to work perfectly, please let us know. Some features are not ready yet, it is listed in known problems on Huggle3 beta page, you don't need to report these - we know it! So, that's it. Have fun testing and please let us know about any problems, either using bugzilla @ http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/ or #huggle connect. Please respond to my talk page, I am not going to watch your talk page. Thank you Petrb (talk) 10:57, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Huggle 3 beta is out - and we need more feedback!

Hey Oliverlyc, how are you? I am Petrb, one of huggle developers, and you are currently subscribed as a beta tester of huggle on meta (meta:Huggle/Members. You may not have noticed, but this week I released first beta precompiled installers for ubuntu and microsoft windows! Wikipedia:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta has all the links you need. So if you can, please download it, test it and report all bugs that is really what we need now. Don't forgot that as it's just a beta it's unstable and there are some known issues. Be carefull! Thank you for helping us with huggle Petrb (talk) 16:23, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

We need your help testing latest huggle

Hello,

I am sending you this message because you listed yourself on meta:Huggle/Members as a beta tester. We desperately need attention of testers, because since we resolved all release blockers, we are ready to release first official version of huggle 3! Before that happens, it would be nice if you could test it so that we can make sure there are no issues with it. You can download it packaged for your operating system (see Wikipedia:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta) or you can of course build it yourself, see https://github.com/huggle/huggle3-qt-lx for that. Don't forget to use always latest version, there is no auto-update message for beta versions!

Should you find any issue, please report it to wikimedia bugzilla, that is a central place for huggle bugs, where we look at them. That is i mportant, if you find a bug and won't report it, we can't fix it. Thank you for your work on this, if you have any questions, please send me a message on my talk page, I won't be looking for responses here. Thanks, Petrb (talk) 15:15, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon

Hi Oliverlyc, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle connect!

Major changes:

  • Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
  • Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
  • Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far

In case you found a bug, please report it to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=Huggle&list_id=147663 thank you! Petrb (talk) 10:13, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

07:41:10, 13 August 2014 review of submission by Vienna Leigh

Hi, I'd like a re-review because I thought I had pretty much emulated the style and content of some of the Wiki pages of some of our companion institutes here in Barcelona, such as: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICFO_%E2%80%93_The_Institute_of_Photonic_Sciences and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Research_in_Biomedicine If you can give me a few concrete pointers about why my entry sounds more encyclopaedic or more like a press release than theirs, I would be glad to make some changes. Thanks!

Vienna Leigh (talk) 07:41, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for contacting me. Firstly, in order to conduct a re-review, you must resubmit your application for reviewing by clicking on the "Resubmit" button on the page. You should preferably improve the language used in the page before requesting a re-review. Improve sentences such as "with the aim of improving health and quality of life. In the process, it also aims to train the next generation of experts in healthcare technology via its opportunities for PhD students and those at even earlier stages of their careers". Once you're done, please do leave a message here (after resubmitting) the article, and I'll accept your article if its problems have been resolved. Oliverlyc 08:53, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for that - I made the draft a while ago, but recently someone else made a new article with the same name. I copied and pasted most of my draft article into the main article, and wasn't sure of the procedure, where to go from here. --110.20.243.197 (talk) 07:11, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello! Thank you so much for writing the article! Please do create an account, so you can create new pages in the future without going through the Articles for Creation process. The AfC process currently is severely backlogged, with over 2000 pages pending review. You don't even need an email to create an account, and you would help Wikipedia significantly by doing so. Thanks. Oliverlyc 08:29, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Oliver, but that doesn't address my concern - have I managed to put the information from my draft into the main article properly? Should the Draft page forward to the main page? (As it does for Draft:HTTPS Everywhere) --110.20.243.197 (talk) 09:09, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
I see. I have edited the draft to redirect to Privacy Badger. Everything seems fine, nothing to worry about. In the future, you can edit the Privacy Badger page directly without needing to go through a review.Oliverlyc 09:13, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi Sir, Greetings I would like to know what all things i should add or delete to accept this page. Thomson 286 (talk) 10:07, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello. As Abraham Lincoln seems to be a real, living, person, the article must meet certain requirements in order to be approved. For example, the article must contain citations, which are links to other reliable online websites to prove that something said is true. You can read more about this policy in WP:BLP. If you cannot find such websites, chances are Abraham Lincoln is not important enough to have his own Wikipedia page. You can read more about this policy in WP:Notability. I found this company deserves a page because of the following reasons. ISPG seems to have a bad PR because of which they couldn't appear in the news papers or any of the valid sources approved by Wiki. But that doesn't mean this company don't deserve a Wiki page, I have seen several other companies which are less relevant in the same domain having a wiki page. I would really appreciate if you could reconsider the decision and give this page an approval. If you feel that this page can be approved after a few changes are made, kindly let me know the same.

Hello. Thanks for contacting me. Firstly, in order for your request for re-review to be reconsidered, you must click the "Resubmit" button on the article. Secondly, the phrasing of the article should also be improved. Marketing buzzwords like "grow through strategic partnerships and product innovations" should generally be avoided.
From your message above, it seems like you have some form of connection with the company. I'm not directly accusing you of anything here, but please be reminded that WP:COI strongly discourages edits where there is a conflict of interest. At the very least, such edits must be declared in the edit summary.
Otherwise, I do believe that the topic might be notable, but the sources cited have to show that it is indeed notable. Listing out news sources that spread the "bad PR" would be useful, for example.Oliverlyc 09:05, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

TT Article

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for the review of the page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Trustatrader.com I was just wondering if you have any tips on how to make this less like an advertisement. I have tried hard to make it informative but to no avail :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello. Thanks for contacting me. Sentences such as "More than half of the UK’s homeowners struggle to find a trader they can trust." sound overwhelmingly in favor of the company and unsuitable for an encyclopedia. WP:NPOV contains some guidelines on how to build a better, more neutral, article. Another trick I've learnt is to avoid referring to obviously one-sided websites, such as the official company websites, so that your mind will remain more neutral while you write the article.
I understand you have put a lot of effort in writing your first article. In fact, I think you are doing a great job so far. If you have any other questions, please feel free to leave a reply here. When you are done improving your article, click the "Resubmit" button and leave a reply here so I can revisit your article. Oliverlyc 13:02, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
P.S. remember to sign off your posts in talk pages like these with ~~~~. Just type that at the end of your posts and Wikipedia will automatically add your signature.

Hi Oliver,

Thank you so much! I have edited the article and taken out several points that looked like advertising. I see what you mean by it looking overwhelming! Wiki writing is tough but very enjoyable.

Once again thank you,

Cai

19:20:18, 15 August 2014 review of submission by IleanaCarmina

The content of the article in question was formatted with quotes followed by citation and was written with the intent to be engaging. However, the format and intent were construed as more of an advertisement rather than an encyclopedia article.

For this reason, the article has been rewritten with the intent to reduce the impression of an advertisement while still focusing on the highlights of the topic, a band from Seattle. This particular band does fulfill the parameters of music:band entries as they have verifiable references, are considered note-worthy, and have a song included in a Showtime television show.

As this is my first article, I wanted to write an acceptable article and then add to the article with the other online references from newspapers such as Seattle Weekly, The Stranger, and the Seattle Times.

The tone should now be corrected to be more neutral, though if it is not, please let me know and I will correct it further. I'm trying to find relevant music entries to reference for tone, so any suggestions would be very welcome!

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Oliverlyc. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Huggle message

Hey Oliverlyc! You are receiving this message because you are subscribed at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers

I have recently launched a new downloads for beta testers that contains nightly builds of huggle, eg. versions that are built every day from our master branch and contains latest huggle. These builds are currently provided only for Windows and Ubuntu. You can find them here: http://huggle.wmflabs.org/builds/

Please keep in mind that these don't have any automatic updates and if you download and start using nightly build, you will need to update it yourself! So don't get yourself to running old version, it's possible to install both stable and nightly huggle, which is what I suggest.

Keep the bug reports coming to phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/create/?projects=Huggle Many thanks! Petrb (talk) 10:00, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Signpost exit poll

Dear Wikipedian, you recently voted in the ArbCom election. Your username, along with around 155 other usernames of your fellow Wikipedians, was randomly selected from the 2000+ Wikipedians who voted this year, with the help of one of the election-commissioners. If you are willing, could you please participate (at your option either on-wiki via userspace or off-wiki via email) in an exit poll, and answer some questions about how you decided amongst the ArbCom candidates?

If you decide to participate in this exit poll, the statistical results will be published in the Signpost, an online newspaper with over 1000 Wikipedians among the readership. There are about twelve questions, which have alphanumerical answers; it should take you a few minutes to complete the exit poll questionnaire, and will help improve Wikipedia by giving future candidates information about what you think is important. This is only an unofficial survey, and will have no impact on your actual vote during this election, nor in any future election.

All questions are individually optional, and this entire exit poll itself is also entirely optional, though if you choose not to participate, I would appreciate a brief reply indicating why you decided not to take part (see Question Zero). Thanks for being a Wikipedian

The questionnaire

Dear Wikipedian, please fill out these questions -- at your option via usertalk or via email, see Detailed Instructions at the end of the twelve questions -- by putting the appropriate answer in the blanks provided. If you decide not to answer a question (all questions are optional), please put the reason down: "undecided" / "private information" / "prefer not to answer" / "question is not well-posed" / "other: please specify". Although the Signpost cannot guarantee that complex answers can be processed for publication, it will help us improve future exit polls, if you give us comments about why you could not answer specific questions.

Dude, are you serious? The page is defaced by a lot of people and you think it's my fault? 114.166.54.218 (talk) 13:17, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

I would suggest you get someone of a higher authority to lock that page too. 114.166.54.218 (talk) 13:19, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

I have already posted a message to request the page to be semi-locked. Considering reporting to Administrator's Noticeboard too. Oliverlyc 13:22, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Your action regarding my editing Igboho is well appreciated. My concern is that there is no credible reference to the original article regarding Alepata as the paramount ruler of Igboho. However, I wish to appeal that we should please put the record straight by correcting some errors regarding Igboho, Oyo State, Nigeria in Wikipedia free encyclopedia.

For example, the portion that states 'The job was however made complete with the leadership of Alepata who is responsible for the relocation of the Empire. The official title of the Oba of the town since then has been Alepata, a prince and a brave hunter from Ilesa Ijesha' is far from being the truth.

Kindly note that the official title of Oba of the town when the capital of the Empire was relocated back to Oyo Ile has been Ona Onibode. For the avoidance of doubt and clarification on this assertion, short history of Igboho is well embedded and documented in the book written by Rev. Johnson, The history of the Yorubas: from the earliest times to the beginning of the British Protectorate" and you may wish to note that the book in question is a major reference point when it comes to historical facts regarding major towns in Yorubaland.

In addition, you may wish to get in touch directly with HRH Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, Alafin of Oyo who up till this time is the custodian of Oyo Empire history and culture. The correction is necessary so as to avoid misinforming millions of people that we are serving around the world.

In conclusion, my reference for editing it as such is from: 'THE HISTORY OF THE YORUBAS':From the Earliest Times to the Beginning of the British Protectorate BY The REV. SAMUEL JOHNSON, Pastor of Oyo EDITED BY DR. O. JOHNSON, Lagos C.M.S. (NIGERIA) BOOKSHOPS LAGOS. BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY. PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN BY LOWE AND BRYDONE (PRINTERS) LIMITED, LONDON, N.W.IO First published 1921 Reprinted 1937 Reprinted 1956 Reprinted 1957 Reprinted 1960

It would be highly appreciated if you can revert, as well as, making necessary corrections to make the storyline richer by perusing the book mentioned above so as to put record straight.

Thank you for your interest in the History of Igboho. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PRINCE DAPO OLAKULEHIN (talkcontribs) 11:18, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

With the information given, may i humbly request you to assist me in referencing the correction in line with the requirement of Wikipedia.

Thank you so much — Preceding unsigned comment added by PRINCE DAPO OLAKULEHIN (talkcontribs) 11:30, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
