How to add a logo image file to the infobox?
I tried uploading a logo image file, which I have the rights to, to the infobox at the top of the Waveform Records page and it seems like it was rejected, apparently because Wiki can't determine if I have permission to use it or something similar. Please tell me how to overcome this.ParadiseVista (talk) 01:54, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- I can't see any sign in your contribution record or in the article history of any such attempt being rejected. You will find guidance at WP:Logos. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:51, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, ParadiseVista. "Which I have the rights to" is not relevant for Wikipedia. There are two possibilities: normally for images what we require is that the copyright holder have explicitly licensed the image in such a way that anybody may reuse it for any purpose. (This is not usually something that the owner of a logo will want to do). In certain circumstances - and logos are a common example - we use images under a Fair Use justification, and the rights are then irrelevant. For this purpose, Wikipedia requires that all of the Non-free content criteria are met by the image and how it is used. --ColinFine (talk) 09:57, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Help with René Carayol's Wikipedia page
Hello!
I hope this finds you well.
I'm writing to you regarding René Carayol's Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren%C3%A9_Carayol. I'm his communications person.
I'm trying to change his title on the landing page (displays when you search for him) from "Author" to "Leadership and Business Keynote Speaker". Could you please help me with this?
Many thanks in advance, Yana Renecarayol (talk) 10:07, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Renecarayol: If you are not Rene Carayol, you will need to change your username, following the instructions at WP:CHU. You cannot use his name as your username unless you are him. As you are his representative, you will need to review the conflict of interest policy at WP:COI and the paid editing policy at WP:PAID(the latter is mandatory per Wikipedia's Terms of Use for paid editors). It appears to me that you have already made the change, but in the future you should refrain from editing the article directly, instead making edit requests on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 10:20, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- It does take time for changes in Wikipedia articles to be reflected in search results; Wikipedia has no control over how search engines do that. 331dot (talk) 10:21, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, it was someone else who changed the article to say " is a business and leadership speaker, broadcaster and author". 331dot (talk) 10:26, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hello @Renecarayol: This appears to be an error in Google's Knowledge Graph, which Wikipedia has no control over; you can notify Google of mistakes by pressing "Feedback" in the bottom-right corner, then clicking the edit icon near the "author" description. This opens a feedback form, where you can explain the error and send it to Google. As 331dot said, please read WP:COI and WP:PAID; you can can paste
{{PAID|employer=René Carayol}}
on your user page, which produces a simple declaration. TeraTIX 10:32, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Bill Cosby
pset about after all the things about Bill Cosby on his title it says convicted sex offender? Really even Wikipedia would destroy his character even more.. But I don't see Ben roethlisberger pro quarterback raped a girl on his professional title or Brandy Norwood convicted murderer by vehicular homicide singer actress. You but it on bill Cosby like it was a profession .there are several other examples that I could give you but I truly believe that is despicable. Now he is dead wrong and his personal matters are his own. But you really could have done that better.. But I will be posting what I send to Wikipedia to another open community for comment on the matter. - Cosby has indeed been convicted, while Ben Roethlisberger has not been convicted of anything. Norwood, as the article states, "was neither arrested nor charged with vehicular manslaughter due to insufficient evidence." Please read WP:BLP. 331dot (talk) 10:51, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Hello,
I am trying to link my Wiki page to other languages by following the instructions on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Interlanguage_links "click on the greyed-out 'page' field (now visible) and type in the name of the article as it appears in that language's Wikipedia"
I submitted my Wiki page for review today. It is called Draft: Nicolas Bourg
So what do i type in this box? (greyed-out 'page' field)
I tried typing in the name "Draft: Nicolas Bourg", but it told me it does not exist. Do i have to wait for my submission to be accepted in order to link it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AydaGlobal (talk • contribs) 13:40, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Candace Owens page needs NPOV tag
{{Admin help}}
The Current Candace Owens article is not being written from a neutral point of view. Can we add a tag until it is more neutral? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paul "The Wall" (talk • contribs) 16:14, 25 September 2018 16:14 (UTC)
- @Paul "The Wall":This is a content dispute. Please continue to try to reach consensus on the article's talk page. Only if that fails, proceed as described in WP:DISPUTE.
At no point does that process call for the use of a {{admin help}} template on the helpdesk. Use of {{admin help}} here is intended only when it is not appropriate for the article's or user's talk pages, such as when those pages are protected. If used at all, put it on the article talk page, or go to WP:ANI for time-critical issues like disruption of vandalism, which we are not seeing here. -Arch dude (talk) 16:51, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Notability of a letter
I am not familiar or comfortable with the process of requesting the deletion of an article, but List of colleges and universities which have signed the Presidents Letter cannot possibly be notable. It's simply about a short, 2007 protest letter signed by a relatively small number of colleges, and the only sources are a copy of the letter itself from an education organization and a broken link to an education publication. If someone more experienced agrees it's not notable and can recommend its deletion, that would be good. 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:3059:8016:5847:3E43 (talk) 01:10, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

How do I submit requests for biographical articles?
I have a factual question: How do I submit requests for biographical articles for notable people? I've read the many pages on contributing articles or asking for articles to be create, but find the material hard to wade through. I'm going to put a short list below and request that someone either move those names/requested-pages to a zone where they can be taken under consideration, or request that someone offer a less than fully cryptic path/algorithm of suggestions. Thanks for your patience, courtesy and consideration. The names follow:

- Hello Bluedudemi, you can yourself add the articles to either Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biography/By profession or to Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biography/By nationality. Cautionary note: these pages are very long and placing these names there does not guarantee that the articles will be created or you'll get any feedback on the same. You can yourself start creating the articles by following the suggested procedure at Your first article. Thanks, Lourdes 05:37, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Buggy svg rasterisation
I added new svg to the page "Block cipher mode of operation" but the generated png are buggy. What can I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Koko256 (talk • contribs) 13:55, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- Define "buggy". Lourdes 16:55, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Koko256:SVC rendering packages sometimes differ in their interpretation of the underlying SVG source, and will therefore not always render your generated SVG in the same way that your SVG editor does. This is quite frustrating, of course. In this case, whatever PNG rendering software is in use at Wikimedia differs from both Inkscape and Firefox. As to what you can do: either convert it to PNG and upload the PNG (yuck, this destroys the scalability), or test on multiple render engines and hope one of them is the same as the Wikimedia engine. If you find a "broken" rendering, you may be able to recover by simplifying the SVG, e.g., by ungrouping. (I'm now going off to see if there is a decent way to preview the Wikimedia rendering.) -Arch dude (talk) 18:04, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

- @Rer58:I do not think this would be an acceptable addition to the article. If your pictures are sufficiently close to the originals, then they violate copyright. If not, then they are not representative of the book. As to bible quotes, there is no indication in the article that the book has any such quotes. If this is a question about the legality of your non-Wikipedia activities, then you are in the wrong place and you will need to ask a lawyer, or simply write to the author and ask permission (and send him a picture. If you are asking you you can integrate content from Wikipedia into a book, then please look at our copyright license, which is at WP:CC BY-SA. Is it appropriate to change topic of page?
I came upon a coi edit request to change the topic of an article, to which I declined, suggesting instead to request a new article or to include the new topic as a section in the current article. I don't remember having seen a similar case before. Is it appropriate to change the topic of the page in Foursquare from the app to the company? Are there policies or guidelines that provide guidance on said action? Thinker78 (talk) 06:50, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- This is best taken up on the talk page of the article; as it already has, and I see other editors participating there too. In my opinion, we could have articles for both the company and the app; however, go by the consensus that emerges on that page. Thanks, Lourdes 10:32, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Unable to upload create a Wiki page for our K-12 School
Hi,
I head a K-12 School in Chennai, India. We have been trying to create a wiki page for our school but everytime we upload our content it's being declined. Help us create a wiki page for our school properly.
Thanks & Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.219.206.194 (talk) 07:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- Please understand that any Wikipedia article("wiki page") would be about your school, not for your school. This is an encyclopedia, and not merely a forum for you to tell the world about your school. Without knowing what the name of the article or draft is that is being declined, it is harder to help you, but your school needs to be written about with significant coverage in independent reliable sources in order to merit an article. As the head of the school, you have what is called a conflict of interest and a paid editing relationship, and as such you should not be the one to write about your school. Please review those links as you will need to comply with those policies(the latter one is mandatory). 331dot (talk) 08:44, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

- @Brassmonger:All published material is copyrighted, by law, whether or not there is a copyright notice. This includes your external web page. Since we do not have a simple mechanism to verify your identity, we must assume that we cannot allow a copy on Wikipedia. The simplest way for you to fix this is to add a compatible copyright license (e.g., CC_BY_SA to your external web page. -Arch dude (talk) 17:04, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

But the page in this site also was created only by me, there is no copyright.User:Brassmonger --Brassmonger .Wal 17:30, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was reacting only to the implication that there is no copyright. There is a copyright. There was supposedly no violation because the original author is free to copy the material, but we cannot know that because we have no simple way (and no desire) to verify the user's identity. The user (apparently) did not copy the material in accordance with its license, which requires attribution. The easiest cure is to attribute the source, since that source's license permits copying with attribution. Sorry to be so picky, we are trying very hard to adhere to the law, here. -Arch dude (talk) 19:37, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- Note also that the page here at Wikipedia is copyrighted. Every time you make any edit, you are agreeing to license your contribution under our copyright license, which is WP:CC BY-SA. - Hey Brassmonger. It looks like the deleting admin hasn't been online since I pinged him to this thread this morning. Long story short, if they are unresponsive, you will need to file a request at WP:DRV, explain that you wrote the content on wikia, and that the wikia content is published under a CC-BY-SA 3.0 license just like Wikipedia. - Hey Nedlebow. It looks like your additions were removed because they did not include any references. All content on Wikipedia, especially that concerning living persons, needs to include references to sources that meet Wikipedia's standards for reliability so that content can be verified by readers. Unsourced content of this type can and generally should be removed on sight.
- Furthermore, you should generally not be making edits to your own biography, as this represent a clear conflict of interest. If there is information that needs to be updated, and you can provide sources for that information per above, then you should leave a comment on the article talk page for others to add. If you include

Clay Faulkner House
The information listed on the Clay Faulkner house page is largely incorrect. I work for the owners of Falcon Rest, Charlien and George McGlothin, and I was tasked with editing the page. After editing the page and correcting the information, it was immediately changed back to the stub that it was before. The information is half done and mostly not accurate, and it is not descriptive at all. The owners would like this page to be correct, at it is a tourist attraction in McMinnville, and the incorrect information on Wikipedia is misleading. For example; Falcon Rest is not, nor has it ever been, referred to as "Faulkner Rest." How do you go about making sure the information is correct without it being immediately changed back? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrskindrataylor (talk • contribs) 18:29, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, I was one editor contributing there, and just posted at User talk:Mrskindrataylor, and then I looked at your contributions and see you posted here. Thank you for disclosing here that you have some connection to the topic, which I rather expected, and which is fine. It is fine also, User:Mrskindrataylor, for you to ask for help here. But I think we can work anything out in discussion about the article at Talk:Clay Faulkner House, which will stay with the article. Also I agree that I see no mention of "Faulkner Rest" in any source, and I don't see where that came from into the article, and I don't want it in either. And I do want for there to be more complete info and certainly not any incorrect info. Could you please join discussion at the article Talk page? I am not a regular Teahouse editor, it would be fine if a regular Teahouse editor would reply, too. --Doncram (talk) 19:22, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oh, I see this is the Help desk, when I thought this was the wp:Teahouse, which is another place you can get help. --Doncram (talk) 20:29, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Mrskindrataylor: I am the editor who removed the copyrighted information. I'll be happy to discuss that further with you if there are any questions but that's not my main reason for writing this post. I am familiar with Doncram's prolific contributions, and will emphasize that they are primarily involved with NRHP sites, so I don't think you could have a better person helping. I see that he has already helped straighten out one error you identified. I urge you to take his advice and open up a conversation on the article talk page where I'm sure he will be very helpful in improving the article.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:04, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Bookmarknav.js no longer working on my account
I posted this bug report on the userpage of the script's creator last week. As they're not a very active user, can anyone else advise how to get this really useful tool active again on my account? Many thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 19:07, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject BOT Updater
The following WikiProject BOT Updater located here tools.wmflabs.org/enwp10/cgi-bin/update.fcgi is rather slow at trying to display articles for certain WikiProjects if not all of them. Adamdaley (talk) 23:57, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

- I'm not a tool expert, but it appears that the tool in question is named "enwp10", and the way to report this problem is documented at How to report a bug. However, based on the slow responses I was getting while researching this, the problem may be with the entire tool server farm, and not with this specific tool. -Arch dude (talk) 01:40, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

- Arch dude Yes, it seemed to be down for around 2 or 3 days in the last week and it appeared to be fixed but now, it's not connecting for me in at least 2 ways of accessing it. Adamdaley (talk) 01:47, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Adamdaley: We need to attract the attention of someone with PHAB access. Let's try @Nanonic: and @Timtempleton:, since they recently handled a PHAB question here. Or, you can create a login over there and reopen that bug. -Arch dude (talk) 02:31, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- I've got an account, I tried to leave a message and their reporting a problem is confusing (not as easy as here). Adamdaley (talk) 02:35, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Help with page move, please
Hi, I need to move this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Times_Media_Group to a new page as the company's name has changed to Tiso Blackstar Group, but I don't have the rights to do so, it seems. Who can help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riaanjhb (talk • contribs) 05:45, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
New Use template
Recently, I new Use template was created ({{Use Trinidadian English}}). The Trinidad and Tobago article now shows up in a maintenance category Category:Articles with invalid date parameter in template. Also, there are also references to non-existant categories: Category:Use Trinidadian English from September 2018, Category:All Wikipedia articles written in Trinidadian English.
There is a lot of overhead (new categories, etc) incorporating this type of template into the Wikipedia "architecture". Is there (or should there be) a review process?

Where to report administrative improper block?
Ok, here is the story, an admin blocked me for 31 hours because of "edit-warring after previous warnings". I had been given a warning, but I did not make any edits after that. I pointed out the series of events to the administrator but he did not unblock me. Where should I complain about this kind of staff?Τζερόνυμο (talk) 08:32, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- As you were unblocked, the issue seems resolved, and I'm not sure it's wise to open it up again. However, you can visit WP:ANI if you wish. 331dot (talk) 08:42, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
Creating a personal page for a respected Professor of Medicine in London
Dear Wiki Community and Team
I am a Professor of Medicine in London and someone created a Wikipedia entry on me some years ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Montgomery_(physician)
I would now like to do something similar for Professor Ben O'Brien, an influential and established Professor of Perioperative Medicine whose work and influence I am familiar with.
Please advise how I may best go about it.
Best, Hugh
