Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) was started in 1985 and is a subsidiary of Coal India. Its headquarters is in Singrauli. Earlier it was a area of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL).

NCL Produced 80.22 Million Tonnes of coal in the year 2015-2016.[citation needed]

Future investments

After achieving profits and coal production more than the targeted value, NCL in collaboration with UPRVUNL is planning to set up a 1,000 MW coal-based power plant in Uttar Pradesh. NCL is also planning to set up a power plant of 1,000 megawatts in Madhya Pradesh with Neyveli Lignite Corporation. NCL has already got the permission with the Directors of CIL.[citation needed]
