List of anti-abortion organizations in the United StatesList of pro-life organizations in the United States – Potentially controversial, was moved without discussion. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 01:53, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:32, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Champion: If this move may be controversial, may as well discuss it now. This page has been here since 21:12, 22 January 2017. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:32, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose Firstly, the nom was completely wrong to list this as an "uncontroversial technical request". The page has been stable at this title for nine months. Secondly, the nom has failed to advance any argument at all for renaming the page. Apart from that, this nomination is completely flawed. The main article is at Anti-abortion movements; I see no reason why it should be different for the United States. "Pro-life" is a weasel word. Many/most of those individuals and groups who are anti-abortion are also pro-gun, pro-nuclear weapons, pro-vigilantism, pro-death penalty, pro-war and opposed to affordable healthcare. In that case how could we as an encyclopedia ignore WP:NPOV and define these groups as "pro-life", rather than specifying that they are anti-abortion? AusLondonder (talk) 09:54, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – might as well stick with meaningful title, not the obfuscating term they might prefer. Dicklyon (talk) 00:57, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - "Pro-life" is a biased euphemism, anti-abortion is a totally unbiased and NPOV statement. Nominee has not made any argument for why it should be moved, nor any evidence that it was actually (and not potentially) controversial.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 06:07, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - "Pro-life" is a euphemism for anti-choice. Unreal7 (talk) 20:28, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Feels like a "half-empty is greater than half-full" case. Pro-life does not literally mean anti-abortion. Plus most of the sources and content refer to the orgs as pro-life rather than anti-abortion. — Zawl 13:41, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated change of anti-abortion → pro-life[edit]

The terminology has been discussed countless times in many places around Wikipedia, including just above on this page. Please stop replacing the name of the page and instances of "anti-abortion" with "pro-life." From what I have seen, there is solid consensus that both "pro-life" and "pro-choice" are non-neutral and imprecise slogans that should be replaced with more descriptive terms (typically "anti-abortion" and "abortion rights") whenever used in Wikipedia's voice (as long as we're not quoting someone or referring to a proper name, of course). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 21:41, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that Wikipedia continues to impose biased language undermines its credibility. The "solid consensus" is based on logical fallacies and bad faith arguments. Furthermore, advocates for the pro-life movement don't agree on this terminology anymore than pro-choice advocates agree on being called "pro-abortion" or "anti-baby." 69.162.253.105 (talk) 18:24, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
