File permission
[edit]Re: File:2006PR Original Reynolds 2.89MB credit Dave Pflederer.jpg, please read the source website, which states the permission criteria I noted when I uploaded, i.e. "No permission required. Please credit Dave Pflederer".[1] The site is run by Patrick Reynolds, the subject of the article the image is used on. It includes a press pack that states that "Except as noted, permission is not required to reproduce any of the images below. Please credit photographer if named." Surely this is quite clear and adequate? Fences&Windows 22:05, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much.

Deletion of Ashok chaturvedi.JPG
[edit]Hi, recently you have deleted image Ashok chaturvedi.JPG, under the CSD F9 terms with the URL for copyright violation as http://outlookindia.com/article.aspx?264027, I would like to first state that Outlook, though has published the picture, does not own the copyright as the picture is from the passport of an individual, secondly image in passport, driving license or any other form of government issued identification enters into public domain if secured through legal channel (which means that it was not published by fraud etc.) Hence I would request you to reconsider your decision to delete the image. Thanks LegalEagle (talk) 15:09, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- As of now Wikipedia doesn't have a license for images from India that are in PD if "image in passport, driving license or any other form of government issued identification enters into public domain if secured through legal channel" - we have {{PD-India}}. Best, feydey (talk) 15:30, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input, would you consider the image to have adequate rationale to qualify under fair use, points against the argument: the photograph is of a living person, points for the argument: it is only picture available on the internet of the ex-chief of an intelligence agency, it adds to the value of the biographic article and finally by using the photograph from the passport there is no deprivation of any commercial profit that could have been accrued from the image. Please do let me what you think on the issue. LegalEagle (talk) 11:41, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hi
I have just left a message on the 'media copyright questions page' (see below). Any help you could give would also be appreciated.
Regards

Hi Please help! The image I am wanting to add to the article is a copy of a map that was printed in the early 1930's. I acquired the image from the local council archive department who stated the map was no under longer under any copyright law. I even advised the archivist what I was planning to do with the image and she said it would be OK to use. Please advise what I can use as a copyright code in the UK? Misleading info on user page
[edit]Hello Feydey, I just noticed that you blocked User:MrRohanM for image upload violations. I saw that he had a lot of barnstars on his page, down near the bottom - supposedly given to him by several different editors, for various impressive contributions to Wikipedia. But then I went to his edit history for his user page, and saw that he himself had added all of these awards (with 'false' signatures from other editors). So his user page amounts to a false, overblown, and easily discoverable false identity. Is there any WP policy against displaying such false information on one's user page? Personally, I don't have any grievance against him (I've never encountered him before). Actually, there's a sort of Walter Mitty quality which is almost touching (and perhaps also a bit pathetic). But I'm still learning about Wikipedia, and I'm curious about how such blatant flasehoods should be handled. Just grin and ignore them? Or talk to the user himself, if one wants to take the trouble? If convenient, perhaps you could repond on my talk page? Thanks -- Health Researcher (talk) 09:39, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Image Copyright
[edit]Hello there, You have mentioned that I might not have the copyright permission to upload the photo i have uploaded, "Cathay.jpg". I would like to state that these photos I have uploaded of these South China Tigers are copyrighted by the organisation "Save China's Tigers" and these photos can be found at the homepage of www.savechinastigers.org All these images are entirely fully created by members of the Save China's Tigers Charitable organisation, and I am a member of Save China's Tigers. My name can be found here, under the Save China's Tigers Team : http://english.savechinastigers.org/sctteam
I have been given permission by "Save China's Tigers"'s founding director, Ms Li Quan to upload images from their website and to use them appropriately here on wikipedia. Please feel free to email her, or any other Key Personnels from SCT about this, and they can verify it for me.
Anyway, I have also forward the email from Ms Li Quan regarding the permission granted to me to upload the photo of "Cathay.jpg" and other relevant images to Permission-en@wikimedia.org

Thanks For Wasting My Sunday Afternoon
[edit]I have done the following:
1. Tracked down Richard P. Hunnicutt, author of the book "Pershing", and determined the correct source and copyright status of the two photos for the Tiger I and M26 Pershing articles. I called him at his home in Granite Bay, California to determine that both photos qualify as "US ARMY PHOTOS"
2. I have re-uploaded both files into Wikipedia, with their accompanying commentaries, references, etc.
3. I have re-installed them into their original places in the Tiger I and M26 Pershing articles.
Please note that all but part (1) was unnecessary, because:
1. These were US Army Photos after all, and qualified for free use - had you felt so strongly that they needed to be deleted because I had originally classified them as "Fair Non-Free" status, I would have appreciated a note from you and then I could have tracked Richard Hunnicutt down and settled that problem. Most photos of US combat action from WWII are US Army because there were very few civilians and non-Army personnel taking pictures in the war zones.
2. You are not obviously involved in the writing of tank articles. Both photographs illustrate IMPORTANT HISTORICAL points about their respective tanks. I explained in the blurbs for both photos why I put them into their articles. Perhaps you did not read these explanations? Your cavalier dismissal that these photos were "not necessary" because there were "plenty of free use" photos already in these articles can only be described as the comments of somebody who knows nothing of tanks. IMHO, many of the free use photos in the Tiger I article are a pointless waste of space, and had I been inclined to screw up other people's work I would have deleted those photos first to save space. Both of the photos I put in have great historical value, which is why I went to the effort of putting them in. The two photographs together document the results of the FIRST Tiger I versus M26 Pershing tank battle to take place in WWII (there were only three in all). Now, that may not mean anything to somebody who doesn't know anything about tanks, but it means a great deal to people who read about tanks, in terms of comparing the various tanks that fought each other.
So please leave both photos alone. These are:
There is a third file M26 Fireball 800pix which was a mistake and can be deleted. If I could figure out how to delete it I would have done so already.

Question?
[edit]Hi sir, You delete some of my images last February 22, 2010. But, I don't know the reason. I think they are in appropriate permission "OWN WORK"/"Released into Public Domain" because they came from my camera and I shot it myself. I just want to ask, did you delete the following images because I put it on my Gallery in my User page?
-File:Sarah NOTC.JPG
-File:Sarah Record Breaker16.JPG
If it is the reason then, can I put back the images in the article Sarah Geronimo? I promise that I won't put these images in my User page anymore.
Oh! and one more thing, can you please "Semi-Protect" that article? becuase there are loads of IP users who keeps vandalizing that page and putting Hoaxes. Please Reply. --White paladin888 (talk) 11:08, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

this artist is color blind and produces brilliant color drawings
his pedigree is with the Roosevelt s (I need to find valid references) etc.

For what it's worth, there seems to be another round of editing going on here, with one user adding references to sources critical of Bernstein, and another deleting the critical references and replacing the self-promotional material that had been removed a couple of times. Don't know if you're still interested, but it might be worth keeping an eye on. Geoffrey.landis (talk) 17:25, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Nallavan
[edit]I have restored the image in the article Nallavan. The image is a promotional poster of the movie. More details can be found in the third party site listed as the source of the image. Anyways, thanks for checking. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:37, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- Please see the article http://2dmovie.com/news-969-Nallavan-begins-on-Jan-20.html. This image is the promotional poster of the movie Nallavan although I don't know why the crew is not writing the movie name in this poster. I found a different range of the movie posters at this location. http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/malayalam/moviewallpapers/11798.html. Probably I can upload one of those once the existing image is deleted. --Sreejith K (talk) 16:29, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Unblock request at User talk:Jrp
[edit]Hi, could you comment on this? It's not very clear to me what warnings this editor ignored and why exactly you blocked him. Thanks, Sandstein 21:17, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
I second this. A user we have never blocked before uploads his first three files in almost three years, tries his apparent best to comply with a policy we have never bothered to explain very well to new uploaders, and this requires a 48-hour block to protect the encyclopedia????? I really want to see an explanation here. There are thousands of things you could have done before blocking him: editing the images to make them FUC-compliant, working with him to find a source, etc. I will say that I am sorely tempted to unblock without consulting you, and it is only Sandstein's involvement and the respect we as admins owe each other that keeps me from doing so. Daniel Case (talk) 03:17, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Feydey, thank you for unblocking me. I recognize that image abuse is an ongoing and rampant problem on Wikipedia today, but what ever happened to Wikipedia:Assume good faith? I've been an editor here for years and I neglect to add a copyright tag to one image and you blocked me without further thought. Yes, there were image warnings in the past, but you did not consider the timeframe or context of those warnings and how they related to the reason you blocked me for. You've been an administrator for a long time and I respect you for that commitment. But your action not only blocked someone that cares about this project deeply, but also prevented me from fixing the very issues which you were concerned about. I'm not bitter; this has been an education for me about how the project has changed since I joined. Thank you for doing your best to keep Wikipedia safe from abuse. This time, I just think you missed. :) JRP (talk) 13:20, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello again...I received a vandalism warning from Mikeo for deleting the orphan tag after including ACTone.jpg in the Franchot Tone article. I thought I was allowed to do this. Should I be worried? Thanks Daviddaltonagency (talk) 20:04, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks very much...I see the warning is gone. Images from later in Tone's career would not be PD, and I'd like to include one if possible. I agree there are more than enough images on the page now, but the redundant ones are the two I didn't place (both are from 1935). I don't feel comfortable deleting someone else's photos, though. If you think it's best I take out ACTone.jpg I will, but now I'm gunshy about going back into that file. Many thanks for your responsive help! Daviddaltonagency (talk) 20:14, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
User:Mstrsail
[edit]I have noticed User:Mstrsail has uploaded huge pictures which you say have been deleted. I cannot see any of his contributions which are tagged for proposed deletion. I have to maintain Ranger_(yacht) in the meantime and need to get this user's contributions to the article sorted out. Please advise. Nuttyrave (talk) 19:15, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
- I got into contact with the holder of the clustershot.com account http://www.clustershot.com/Mstrsail, George Bekris, and confirmed that he uploaded those images. I have no reason to assume that he doesn't hold copyright, so the images are clean and can be used. Watermark can be edited out like with any CC-by-SA image.
Amalthea 20:49, 15 April 2010 (UTC)- Good investigation. Thanks also to mstrsail for pictures that greatly awe the article's readers. I thought it might be the author but now we can be sure. According to the wikipedia alerts, now removed on mstrsail's talk page, the pictures were really only CC_by_SA once the original publications on original websites were also backported to CC_by_SA. Please advise. Especially: our thanks for contributing. Nuttyrave (talk) 21:26, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- That would have been just one way to clean up unclear copyright status of previously published material. Me being able to contact him through the contact details of that page is just as good. They are his images, he can release the uploaded versions under CC-by-SA without touching their status there.
Was that your question?

This has been altered from a photo that has a GNU Free Documentation License--i.e., the image is free to re-use. Under said license there is no obligation to seek a written permission, that is , as far as I can see:

- All changes to the work must be logged.
- All derivative works must be licensed under the same license.

Patti Dahlstrom page - Norman Seeff image
[edit]Hello - you have indicated on the Patti Dahlstrom photograph that a copyright tag needs to be added in order to avoid the deletion of the image by 1st May 2010.
The situation is: Norman Seeff has given his permission for the image to be used in support of Patti, but not necessarily released it to public domain. There might be future instances where he would only allow the image to be used for a fee. I do not know how to indicate this with a tag. Could you please advise?

[edit]I have used some images from magazines in the 1930's. As far as I know, British copyright on them (they are British mags) is just 28 years while American copyright is 50 years. Fair Use Rationale for File:RingBosses.jpg
[edit]Hi, I looked at your warning as well as information in the article linked, and concluded that File:RingBosses.jpg does indeed have a non-free use rationale, which is, and has been, listed under the Summary section. The image has been around, more or less, since February 2010 and for there to be no problems until now is questionable and suspicious, to say the least. -- GSK (talk ● evidence) 20:17, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- The rationale is incomplete and unless completed the image has to be deleted. Please add the missing info. feydey (talk) 20:25, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- It's rather difficult to add the missing info if there's no explanation as to what info is missing. -- GSK (talk ● evidence) 20:30, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- Please look at WP:RAT. There are clearly two fields missing information alas the rationale is incomplete. These need to be added: a) Portion: How much copyrighted material is used? b) Replaceability: Explain why no free equivalent could reasonably be obtained or created to replace this media c) Purpose needs to be corrected: How does the media contribute significantly to the article in which it is used? feydey (talk) 20:38, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
