Discussion on Terminology sections

[edit]

Hello Smeagol_17. A few days ago I started a discussion about the use of terminology sections on Wikipedia articles about anime and manga. Your opinion on this topic will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and happy editing. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:43, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Naruto: Ultimate Ninja, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sasori (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Bleach DVD season 16 volume 1.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bleach DVD season 16 volume 1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Please preview, consolidate, and summarize

[edit]

Hello- Below are a few editing suggestions to make it easier for you and others to collaborate on the encyclopedia. Please preview, consolidate, and summarize your edits:

  • Try to consolidate your edits, at least at the section level, to avoid cluttering the page's edit history; this makes it easier for your fellow editors to understand your intentions, and makes it easier for those monitoring activity on the article.
    • The show preview button (beside the "publish changes" button) is helpful for this; use it to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits.
  • Please remember to explain each edit with an edit summary (box above the "publish changes" button).

Thanks in advance for considering these suggestions. Eric talk 13:45, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Some of these estimates rely in part on demographic losses Conquest explained how he arrived at his estimate: "I suggest about eleven million by the beginning of 1937, and about three million over the period 1937–38, making fourteen million. The eleven-odd million is readily deduced from the undisputed population deficit shown in the suppressed census of January 1937, of fifteen to sixteen million, by making reasonable assumptions about how this was divided between birth deficit and deaths."? The Witcher

[edit]

Your 14 June 2018 edits to the article for The Witcher said that the anthology Maladie and Other Stories included the stories "The Road with No Return" and "Something Ends, Something Begins".

Are you sure about that? And if so, why? I don't think it has those stories. Maybe they're in the Polish version, but not the English translation. - 72.186.111.112 (talk) 01:02, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have now developed a theory that the English book called "Malady and Other Stories" is not a translation of the entire Polish anthology called "Malady and Other Stories." Instead it's just a translation of the single short story The Malady, and not the other short stories that were in the anthology. Plus they added a few random other things in with it. What do you think? If that's true, we should note it in the Wikipedia article. - 72.186.111.112 (talk) 01:49, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Feodosia shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smurf234 (talkcontribs) 16:31, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Alita: Battle Angel shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree.

Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.Davefelmer (talk) 02:19, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A throwaway sentence at the end of a long-over previous discussion thread is not posting on the talk page and does not give you free reign to undo the product of past discussions and edit war on the article, especially when nobody has so much as replied. Nor did you direct me there until about an hour ago when you still did not open a new discussion thread as you're supposed to. I don't know why you insist on changing details, when your post history easily shows this. Davefelmer (talk) 08:19, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm RandomCanadian. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you unlinked one or more redlinks from Altima Ace. Often redlinks can be helpful, so we don't remove them just because they are red. They help improve Wikipedia by attracting editors to create needed articles.

In addition, clicking on the "What links here" special link (in the Wikipedia Toolbox at left) on a missing article shows how many—and which—articles depend on that article being created. This can help prioritize article creation. Redlinks are useful! Please, only remove a redlink if you are pretty sure that it is to a non-notable topic and not likely ever to be created. Evangelion articles

[edit]

Hello. Hey there. Since you've also made some contributions to the Eva articles here, would you mind, if you have the time, to give a third opinion at Talk:Kaworu Nagisa#Section break 2? The other editor that has been updating the Eva articles is much more adamant about some of the stuff here than he was in the other articles and though his work is generally good it did need adjustments before. I already made hundreds of edits to his previous rewrites. I think he doesn't realize he's not close enough to NPOV - he used a lot of inaccurate translations and was way too selective in his representation of facts. I presented some 10+ new sources that were necessary to improve things and had to rewrite about a third of the article. He agreed to that initially but after a while just started to stonewall me. It bugs me because I don't want to discourage him. I am not sure how much you do know or care about Eva, so it might or might not be too long of a discussion, but you can probably just read the section break there and chip in - my actual detailing and sources are in the preceding wall of text, which you can ignore if you want to. The page is currently locked so there's plenty of time. Thank you. FelipeFritschF (talk) 18:45, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am reasonably familiar with Evangelion, but not so much with interviews, drafts and such. For what it is worth, I think your position looks more supported by sources and general wiki policy. Smeagol 17 (talk) 06:03, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I must said I initially hadn't considered I was making things too detailed for general users but I assumed it'd be necessary to talk with the other editor. It's just that he's refusing to engage now, accusing me of vandalism and sophistry, which is why I'm looking for other people to chip in as third opinions in the talk page so he can understand what I'm coming from. Broadly, I'm reasonably sure he just went unnoposed for years in the (much less active and read) Italian wiki so he just assumes he's necessarily right. I asked some outside people to consult and one of them did chip in there but also got largely ignored. With the new movie out this is bound to happen, for better or worse.FelipeFritschF (talk) 21:02, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry to bother you with this again, but is it possible you leave a third opinion there, as the editor refuses to talk to me? There is of course an increased number of views due to the new film release, so I'd prefer if speculation treated as fact or misquotations of jokes made by non-staffers weren't around. Or should I seek some other avenue of resolution?FelipeFritschF (talk) 00:36, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, I think the articles should limit fancruft and inclusion of reviews only to push a POV wit an undue weight, but my limited knowledge of Evangelion's creation and fandom prevents me from being very authoritative on the subject. You can try to post on a noticeboard Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution#Noticeboards. Smeagol 17 (talk) 11:48, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Smeagol 17, I've attempted that a while ago and just recently on WP:3O. Thank you for your advice. If you could chip in that'd be great of course but I don't want to bother you.FelipeFritschF (talk) 03:26, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean - Consistency in documenting official English

[edit]

I don't believe there is a need to present the Japanese Translation and the English Netflix tiles in full, especially when there are only a few instances. All of the English versions of Stands are indicated by Explanatory footnotes (efn). Unless you have a strong contrary argument, I propose the titles should be handled in the same way. Ozflashman (talk) 21:51, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ozflashman: Stands are stands, and episode names are episode names. This is handled like this not only on all other JoJo parts, but also on other pages like List of Dragon Ball Z episodes.Smeagol 17 (talk) 08:03, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure I agree with you: the title is modified because it contains the name of a Stand and the List of Dragon Ball Z episodes are actually completely different titles which I agree is quite valid to list as well. If there are no further examples in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean] then I suggest only 1 title is sufficient to identify the episode. Ozflashman (talk) 03:24, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ozflashman: Even in released episodes of Stone Ocean, there is more: see episodes 2 and 8. Smeagol 17 (talk) 07:09, 9 December 2021 (UTC) Smeagol 17 (talk) 07:10, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"(Tolkien)" articles

[edit]

Hi, I saw your edit to Smaug. Another editor without discussion renamed all the (perfectly good) "XYZ (Middle-earth)" articles to "XYZ (Tolkien)" on the very disputable grounds that one shouldn't name articles in-universe. However, "Middle-earth" is certainly a thing in the real world, given the vast sales of Middle-earth books and films. Other editors are starting to stir so we may well reverse the undesirable and I think totally unhelpful and jarring change. Meanwhile, maybe don't spend too much time replacing the redirects, which still function perfectly well! All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:57, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if this counts as a source you can put in wikipedia, but see https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/59628494-pretty-boy-detective-club-manga-volume-3 and then https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1647290775/.

Information icon Hello, I'm Primium. I noticed that you recently removed sources from List of Shahed drones without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Thanks. -- Primium (talk) 19:16, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of Shahed drones. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

If you believe we should not abide by the MOS: for this particular article, please explain why on the article's talk page. -- Primium (talk) 22:28, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war? I didn't remove the reference in my latest edit, as you requested. Smeagol 17 (talk) 22:31, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, my bad. I misread the changes. Thanks for the improvement and clearing up the issue. -- Primium (talk) 22:33, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Leningrad

[edit]

Hi! There was a 1961-built (1959-launched) icebreaker named Leningrad and I intend to write an article about it one day. I have turned Leningrad (icebreaker) into a ship index page. Tupsumato (talk) 19:35, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Sorry for moving, then. Smeagol 17 (talk) 19:36, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem — it's good that someone is keeping an eye on unnecessary disambiguation. Tupsumato (talk) 19:46, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Chechen–Russian conflict, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page FSB.

Edit to Master and Margarita

[edit]

Thank you for many improvements to the article about the novel. Your first edit though, which you summarized with citation?, deletes a statement supported by the previous citation from the Moscow Times (see previous sentence). The essence of the statement is repeated twice in that article; when I went to the screening of the film the director himself repeated more than once the concept, so it seems important and encyclopedic. Therefore I'm going to add back the sentence

Russia's invasion of Ukraine halted distribution in 2022, because of the director's stance about the war.

If you feel that the citation has to be repeated please go ahead adding a tag to the previous citation and then referencing that tag. In addition, Wikipedia's guidelines are that when when an editor thinks that a citation is needed, there is a [citation needed] tag that can be added; in other words, omitting the tag, deleting the passage, and writing in the summary of the edit that a citation is needed is deprecated.--Gciriani (talk) 18:01, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, maybe I was a bit hasty, but three things: 1) Probably better to add "according to director", as it is not a claim by the newspaper itself
2) Better to include this reference for the claim itself, it is not enough that it is used previously
3) I am not sure the mention of the delay needs to be here at all, and not just in the film article. Smeagol 17 (talk) 15:39, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 22:19, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
