Nomination of Amol Kirtikar for deletion

Hi Arun, I dont understand why this page has been marked for deletion. It is about a known politician in Maharashtra. Also enough references has been provided for validation. Please comment... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jagtaprohitd1987 (talkcontribs) 07:13, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

This honestly still needed a relist as the 2 Keep votes themselves were not confident thus a better pool of attention is needed. SwisterTwister talk 04:56, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Yes please. SwisterTwister talk 05:17, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

You closed this (as a non-admin close) barely one minute after Northamerica1000 (an admin) decided that it needed a relist, not a close. That doesn't seem right to me (and I'm on the side of the debate that argued for the result you assigned. Maybe you could reconsider and let NA's relist stand? —David Eppstein (talk) 05:59, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Erin McGathy article

When you tried to relist the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Erin McGathy, the article was not removed from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2016 August 6, nor was it added to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2016 August 14. There were also formatting errors in the relist template within the discussion, so I removed it (diff). Essentially, it has not been relisted at this point. I would relist it myself, but as the prod remover within the article, I'm involved in the matter. North America1000 07:00, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

  • Sure thing. In case you weren't aware of this, just adding the relist template to AfD pages does not actually relist the discussions. Discussions have to be physically moved from one AfD log page to another. North America1000 07:10, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Regarding IIT BHU Page

Hi! You seem to have completely ignored the previous conversation we had regarding the moving of the IIT BHU page. The details can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:AKS.9955/Archive_8#Regarding_Page_Move.

I would request you to kindly respond to this at the earliest.

 Shobhit102 | talk  07:39, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Dear admin, page Indian Institute of Technology, BHU has to be moved to Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi since that is the correct name of the institute as per IIT amendment act. Please help. Thanks, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 06:10, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

I am not an admin, but I'd like to say I'm fairly well acquainted with the way WP:RM works. I suggest you file a page move request on Talk:Indian Institute of Technology, BHU using the {{requested move}} template for community input. Also, take a look at WP:OFFICIAL and WP:COMMONNAME. Anarchyte (work | talk) 11:05, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
I've put a CSD notice on the latter page to see what an administrator thinks of it - Twinkle is a very good program for doing so quickly - and I suggest that if you want any more pages moved in this way, do the same.--Launchballer 15:07, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
  • Launchballer, that is NOT how page moves are performed. Besides, I had asked for an admin help (you are not an admin) and you should NOT have closed the template while the issue is still open. I very well understand how to nominate articles for CSD but I dont think that is how we should be treating this case. I have removed the CSD and the "helped" tag. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 04:23, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
  • There are several issues here, but the two central points, I think, are the following.
  1. For a proposal to move a page where there is disagreement, posting a request for administrator help on a user talk page is not the way to deal with it. Among other reasons, doing it that way means that the discussions are visible only to editors who somehow know which editor's talk page to go to. The proper place for such discussions is the article talk page, and instructions on how to do it are at Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
  2. Normally, unless there are special reasons for making an exception, Wikipedia aims to use the name most commonly used, which is very often not the same as the "official" name of an organisation, so "that is the correct name of the institute as per IIT amendment act" is not necessarily a good reason for making the move. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 09:06, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
  • Hello JamesBWatson, thanks for your time. I agree with you on all counts but reason I requested is due to continued request of Shobhit102 who rightfully raised the topic and I am sure now is clear on the subject. Since the discussion was here, I asked for help here, but as you rightly pointed out, in future I will make sure to put all such requests on the article talkpage. Cheers, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 09:12, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
  • JamesBWatson, I checked the article talkpage and the second move discussion is not that controversial. Suggestion had all supports and the last user even mentioned that the official name of the institute is "Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi" (same as suggested above). Do you recommend I open a discussion on the article talk page before you can perform the move? Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 09:57, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
  • OK, I have no spent more time looking into this. For future reference, it is more helpful in cases like this to give a little more explanation of the background, as you can't expect someone new to the discussion to spend a lot of time searching through the editing history of several different pages to see what is going on. I have now seen that there was a move discussion which resulted in a consensus to move the article to Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, and that one editor later moved it to another title, as far as I can see without further discussion, so I have moved it back to that title. If anyone now wishes to have the article moved to any other title, then he or she needs to make a new move request, in accordance with the instructions that I linked to above. Recent non-admin closures

Hello, Arun. I noticed that you've recently been closing some of the AfD's for state-level pageant winners. This issue is currently the subject of controversy, as evidenced by the RfC taking place on the talk page of the Beauty Pageant project. As such, these closures fall within the scope of Pitfall #1 of the guidelines for non-administrator closures. Although I am not asking you to undo any of these closures, I do ask you to reconsider whether you should be doing any more of them. NewYorkActuary (talk) 15:19, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

  • Hello NewYorkActuary, thanks for your message. There is a difference between "dispute / controversy" and "open discussion". What you are talking about is an open discussion here which is NOT at ALL controversial or disputed. It is an open discussion and as per the existing guidelines (incl GNG) + the consensus built on the individual AfD, I performed the NAC. Trust you are clear now. Cheers, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 16:06, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

This was not a clear keep. Please revert and let an admin close it? czar 03:03, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

  • Hello Czar, sorry for replying late. Although the AfD was a clear keep, but since you brought it up, do you still want me to reopen the AfD? The way voting / debate on AfD took place, it is good candidate for WP:SNOW. I am ok in opening the AfD again, let me know (although I don't see a different outcome). Cheers, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 16:50, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Not the most brilliant close I've ever seen. Would you self-revert, please?—S Marshall T/C 16:32, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

  • Because part way through the debate I discovered that the article was also a copyright violation, and said so, but this point received no attention. It was inappropriate to close the debate as "keep" when that argument was present and had not been addressed.—S Marshall T/C 17:33, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
  • I've tagged it for {{manual|date=August 2016}}. I agree the paraphrasing of main section text isn't close enough to merit a copyvio tag, imho. I didn't check all the subsections, tho. I also think the problem is the Afd argument keeps shifting: it can't be simultaneously a bad machine translation and copyvio of the Fr. official site, it seems to me: if the automated rewriting was so bad -- which I don't think it was, when I saw it -- surely the garbled translation would also distance it from the original French official text. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:44, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for tagging me in this. I will respond at DRV. -- Dane2007 talk 22:34, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

I'd prefer it if you would reopen this AfD. The first two voters have a strong COI, so there has effectively been only one delete vote (me) and one keep vote (Scope creep). —Ruud 01:39, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

AFDS

Hi AKS, Could I ask you reopen Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kutumb, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/GMA The Heart of Asia and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Watsaporn Wattanakoon please?,
AFDs should never ever be closed on one !vote (Although Northamerica1000 has provided sources on the first AFD it still needs to remain open - It's bureaucratic and personally I hate it however it has to be done sorry!,
The second AFD technically should've been closed as No Consensus as the keep arguement wasn't strong and relisting would've been utterly pointless,
The last AFD again shouldn't of been closed on one !vote,
Thanks and I hope you have a great weekend :), –Davey2010Talk 04:45, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

  • Hello Davey2010, thanks for your message. Following is my reply / action;
  • Kutumb AfD: I checked the NAC and it does not state about one !vote. I also agree with you on the bureaucracy; but we still need to follow the community and hence I have re-opened the discussion as requested by you.
  • GMA The Heart of Asia AfD: Agreed and changed to "No Consensus". Thanks for pointing that out.
  • Watsaporn Wattanakoon AfD: I have opened this also. However, I am sure you must have seen dozens of articles in AfD (in past few weeks) about beauty pageants who have won only minor beauty titles and are not independently notable. This is one of such cases. If I remember correctly, Johnpacklambert is the one who has spent lots of time bringing such cases out and Northamerica1000 has also actively participated in such discussions. Unless I missed something, I don't see the AfD meeting another fate. This was a bold close.
Trust I covered all your points. Let me know if something is missing. Cheers, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 08:55, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi AKS.9955, You're right there is nothing on one !vote which does seem strange, I personally have never seen an AFD closed on one unless it was for an extremely special reason,
Anyway thank you for kindly reopening/amending the closures - It's extremely appreciated and thank you for your work at AFD too :),
Have a great weekend, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 12:11, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

Hope you will help and guide me for creating pages within my area for informative purpose. Need your help to create the page and change the language as informal, requesting do not go easy of Deletions. Guide me where I was made my mistake.

That Company is working with Coco-cola for enhancing the livelihood of small farmers with there project called Unnati. If there is promotional or vanity language, help me to edit it.

Some more informative links I collected about the company take a look

Information icon Hello, I'm Abhishek.rai777. This is regarding my recent contributions to Shisha Gumbad made to the page. Will you please elaborate the phrase "did not appear to be constructive". Because as far as I remember that I made an edit so that people visiting the page can have a look at a better picture of the monument. Now please elaborate your phrase "did not appear constructive". Thank you Abhishek.rai777

  • Abhishek.rai777, I appreciate your enthusiasm and contribution to Wikipedia. Let me clarify certain things;
  1. This picture you uploaded is of lower quality (850 KB) as opposed to existing picture (1.59 MB).
  2. This picture has following issues;
    1. Gives a wrong impression of the color of the monument.
    2. Poorer lighting.
    3. Image noise is higher.
    4. Out of contrast.
    5. Sharpness is inferior.
    6. Temperature and saturation is inapt.
    7. The picture is (perhaps) of rear of the building and not front.
I had not deleted the picture you uploaded as the lead picture and moved it to the picture gallery instead as a courtesy. I am reverting your changes on the article. Kindly refrain from engaging in WP:3RR since the picture you uploaded is not suitable (versus what was already there) for the title picture. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 07:57, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Formatting

Hi, thanks for your work. It would help us a lot if you avoided linking common terms (farmer, politician, India, etc), and did not capitalise common terms in infoboxes. Flag icons are discouraged, although we put up with them in some sporting articles. Thanks. Tony (talk) 08:12, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Overlinking

Hi, thanks for your work on Indian politicians, etc.

Please note that on en.WP we don't normally link common words like "farmer", "politician", etc. Nor years or dates.

And it would be better not to insert the Indian flag into the infoboxes, by our guidelines.

Thanks. Tony (talk) 07:53, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Bismil Azimabadi AfD

I'm a little unhappy with your close at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bismil Azimabadi (2nd nomination). You give no rationale and there were significant policy concerns raised by myself and others. Since AfD is not a vote-counting exercise and there were valid concerns, I'm not even sure that it was appropriate for you to close the thing as a non-administrator. - Sitush (talk) 14:29, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

  • Sitush, firstly let me inform you that it was totally appropriate for me to close that AfD. Secondly, you did not even vote on that AfD and just kept on discussing. Thirdly, that AfD did not have a single delete vote and has a very clear consensus towards keep. I am sorry but there is nothing I can do for you. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 15:20, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Err, it had a delete and I suggested possibly a redirect. Shows how much you read the discussion, I guess. Please self-revert and I'll make it clearer if you want. - Sitush (talk) 16:25, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Sitush, let me clarify. I have no interest in arguing and "I said this, you said that". Still, since you brought this up, let me bring something up. When one performs search for word "delete" on the AfD, only three results come up (following);
  1. By Fraenir: "Re-creation of a previously deleted article.....
  2. By Faizhaider: "...the article has been deleted previously....
  3. By YOU: "Yes, there is no deadline. But no-one here has yet demonstrated that this guy deserves a standalone article and since you've already named some sources perhaps it would be better to use the things to prove that there is significant discussion about him in reliable independent sources etc. Just writing a song, a book or a poem does not notability make. As for your comment about the totality of sources, well, if we adopted that vague approach then we'd hardly ever delete anything provided that we had a least one source that merely mentioned the name". You made a long speech rather than voting. Next time; be bold, be clear and vote.
    As I said earlier, I have no interest in lengthy arguments. If you are confident about your point, please consider nominating this article again or go for DRV. Thanks for your contributions and for your message. Happy editing. Cheers, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 16:37, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Why search for the word delete? You are supposed to assess the arguments raised in the discussion against the stipulations of policy. My problem, thus, is as much your actions as the article and I cannot address that by renominating etc. - Sitush (talk) 18:40, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Sitush, since you dont want to search for the word "delete", I dont want to waste my time talking to you. Take this to DRV (Admin noticeboard is not an option sice you already took it there without notifying me). Please stop messaging me since trying to reason with you is total waste of time. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 18:50, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
  • I didn't take you to WP:AN without notifying you. You were already notified of that thread by someone else. Another example of lack of clue. I suppose I should be grateful for the small mercy that was your failed ArbCom attempt. I shall now leave this thread, as requested, and thus give you even more time to make a mess of things. - Sitush (talk) 21:13, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
