Welcome!

Hello, Astorknlam, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, you can post to the help desk or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Please read WP:BAI. Writing very short articles about your family is generally considered to be a bad idea. If they are famous, please include that fact in the article and let us know why that is. Being part of a fictional dynasty is not considered famous. - Mgm|(talk) 11:35, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

I moved Son of Lams Family since 1992 to your user space: User:Astorknlam/Son of Lams Family since 1992. In article space it will soon be deleted anyway. Uppland 12:16, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You cannot write an article about yourself with only the places you were educated at. You can have that information on your user page, however. Academic Challenger 09:44, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Prince Waldemar (1868-1879).jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know on the image description page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Otherwise, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged imaged will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much.

P.S. As the stock message above mentions check your other images too, I've tagged them as "no source" too, you can find them quickly on your list of contributions. Thanks again. --Sherool 12:21, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Info on image, please[edit]

Please go to Image:Yeoh.jpg and edit that image description page to give the source (URL, if online; ISBN, if scanned from a book; and if you've taken the image yourself, just say so) and the licensing status (the list of image copyright tags might be useful) of this image. All our images should have this information; images without source or license info will be deleted after seven days. Thank you. Lupo 10:24, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also all your other image uploads. Lupo 10:28, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ex Romanian Royals[edit]

If you put those silly boxes in the Romanian pages again I will report you for vandalism. Adam 12:40, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

layout changes[edit]

Why are you changing the layout of all the pages of Dutch royal family? The pages are much clearer with the boxes on the right. Baszoetekouw 13:08, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that having both boxes on the right isn't ideal either, but the main body text of the article is most important and should be on the most prominent place: the top left of the screen. Baszoetekouw 13:14, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if an individual is included in a Royal Family template, please don't add the dynastic templates to the page as well because it makes it all look a big old mess. Thanks Craigy (talk) 17:10, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do not remove templates on styles from articles. They are a format agreed by consensus to be used. Any removals will be reverted on sight. The layout of royal pages was decided by debate and has a consensus behind them. All changes that breach that consensus, such as moving a royal family template to the left, and the insertion of a 'house of . . . ' template on current monarchs pages, and the moving of the main picture to the left, will be reverted on sight. Please follow the agreed conventions on page layout. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 19:25, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Greek Royals[edit]

We use the Greek Royal Family Template for those royals still living. We only use the House template for deceased members. This is the common approach on royalty articles in Wikiepdia. I've therefore reverted your changes made this morning. This is the best approach since only using a House template would mean missing out the consorts of princes and kings. Astrotrain 16:42, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Advice: Royalty pages

Wikipedia follows a strict formula for royal pages, in terms of content, layout and naming.

The basic rules are:

  • All monarchs and princes/ses birth/family are named using highest ranking title; eg, King Edward VIII not the Duke of Windsor.
  • Styles are not used in articles. A style box is always used.
  • The image goes on the top right hand side of all pages.
  • For past monarchs and their children, the royal house template is used.
  • For current monarchs and their descendants, the royal family template is used.
  • Both templates are never used together.
  • Because many articles are quite small, with the text sometimes smaller than one template, the royal house template for both houses is not used. Instead only the template of the senior parent (ie, whichever was the monarch, not the consort) is used.
  • A royal consort has the template of the royal family they marry into, not of the family they were born into, on their page. However once they die, their birth family template replaces the marital royal family template.

With thousands of articles on royalty, and hundreds of contributors to them, the same standard format needs to be used across each article.

Any inadvertent content, layout or naming that does not match that format is deleted to restore the article to the agreed format.

For full details on royal naming rules, see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles)

Strong advice: Royal articles

You have already been informed that you are breaking the agreed format in royal pages. All changes that do that will be reverted on sight. Such actions can be seen by Wikipedians as vandalism. Stop doing it.

Liechtenstein changes[edit]

I've expanded the Princely Family of Liechtenstein page with a lot of basic biographical info, as well as the images of the Princely Standard and the hrhstyles infobox, and I've removed that type of info from most of the individual pages and linked them to the family page. A lot of the minor members' articles (those which had no content beyond what's now on on the family page) have just become redirects to the family page, which is now the hub for all the pages on the present royal family Colonies Chris 23:56, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:D4_1_1_image3.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:D4_1_1_image3.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 04:47, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Mathilde.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Mathilde.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --OrphanBot 11:42, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Astorknlam, thanks for uploading this image. However, it has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2006 January 20 and will be deleted shortly unless you add an apropriate copyright tag. --Duk 05:51, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

courtesy titles[edit]

Courtesy titles like "Earl of Ulster" are not preceded by "The". I know it looks weird, but the form is hardly ever used in practice; he'd normally be called "Lord Ulster". —Tamfang 10:00, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Information on images[edit]

I see that you uploaded the images Image:Marie-Adélaïde.jpg and Image:LaGrande-DuchesseCharlotte.jpg (the latter of which has recently been deleted). Although their use was justified by having 'permission granted', this is not a valid justification for inclusion by itself. Thus, to allow Wikipedia to use such images, permission has to be proven. If you have evidence of this permission, for use in a commercial manner, that can be used to justify their use and to justify one re-uploading the image that has been deleted. Otherwise, one must cite them as qualifying only under Fair Use, which places certain constraints on the use of the images. Bastin 22:43, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Jwong scs.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. Image:Stephaniemonaco189.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Stephaniemonaco189.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Actor infobox[edit]

HI Astorknlam. I am the guy who crated WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers. I was just wondering is there anyway we can set the default colour of the Actor info box as Silver - I beleive it looks more stylish. I have been using silver on deceased actors. What do you think? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 10:26, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest we stick to using silver for deceased actors and gold for living, ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 10:11, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why wouldn't they like silver? Its not as if it is a lurid intoxicating green or bright pink or something. I guess some people have been accustomed to the gold but it isn't really gold it is an off yellow. It's not really important but I want the articles to look as attractive as possible, ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 10:32, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any reason for getting rid of the Academy awards and BAFTA awards boxes at the bottom of that article? It seems funny to me, but I don't wanna revert it again if there is a reason for getting rid of them. BsroiaadnTalk 13:46, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

Please be more careful when editing infoboxes; stop removing contents from infoboxes as you did here, here and here; please don't remove unused fields; just because they're not presently used, doesn't meant they won't be needed, and finally, please use edit summaries to tell others what you have carried out. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Johann Adam Andreas.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Johann Adam Andreas.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

A tag has been placed on Template:Egyptian Royal Family requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes.

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.

Fair use rationale for File:R.E.M._ep_cover_2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:R.E.M._ep_cover_2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. File source problem with File:Dudley1.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Dudley1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:I AM CHILAM 2nd Version.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:I AM CHILAM 2nd Version.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. The article Joe T. L. Chan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unsourced BLP that fails notability per WP:ACADEMIC with no claim of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article Longest-reigning emperors in China has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There is already a "List of rulers of China" page. In the wiki to explore who is the longest is an original study, unless there are several academic studies.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
