Your GA nomination of Ben Starosta

The article Ben Starosta you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Ben Starosta for things which need to be addressed. LauraHale (talk) 10:37, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Matthew Harriot

Hi, I will leave his nationality as it is however I thought you actually have to represent the nation before it changes, not just be in the squad.Eng66 (talk) 20:41, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

I am rather confused by this article, especially his date of birth. The article was originally at George Brown (footballer born 1883) but you moved it last January to its present title with the edit summary: "correct date of birth". The article itself has 1880 in the infobox but 1883 in the intro and categories. I could tidy all this myself, but Michael Joyce's "Football League Player Records" shows the date of birth as January 1884. Are you able to confirm the correct date? -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 07:14, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

I think I'd changed it whilst doing some disambiguation on other articles with the intention of coming back and updating it properly but obviously never did. I've been through and expanded and referenced it all now - I get the feeling that at some point this guy was mistaken for another George Brown and their info mixed up. The career stats included in the article were definitely for 'Gee Gee', hence me changing the personal info rather than starting a new page. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 11:23, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

IP editor

Hi, seeing as you've also been having some trouble with 86.42.12.125 (talk · contribs), I thought I'd let you know of this WP:FOOTY discussion. Basically, it turns out this guy has been constantly switching IPs for years, making troublesome edits. If you come across him again, I think it'd be best to just revert as vandalism; seems to me he's a troll looking for bites. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:23, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

There's a slight problem with your DYK nomination for David Powell (footballer)... I don't think he actually is the first Wrexham player to play for Wales. Arthur Lea, who only ever played for Wrexham, was capped four times in the 19th century. Oldelpaso (talk) 18:58, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

It was mentioned in the Clarebrough & Kirkham book, looks like they've not got their facts completely right or didn't explain the point they were making properly. I've removed that mention for now (I'll see if they talk about it in any of their other books) and suggested another hook. Thanks. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 08:34, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Should be OK now. I took the liberty of changing one of the refs to point to Neil Brown, as the penmon.org page had obviously copy-pasted from it. While I have no reason to doubt the information on the Penmon.org page, it doesn't look like a WP:RS, so it might be an idea to replace it where possible. For the Welsh Cup final the Welsh Football Data Archive could be used instead. Oldelpaso (talk) 18:02, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes - I found the Welsh Football data archive thing yesterday - and looking at that there were loads of Wrexham players in internationals in the 1800s so not sure what Clarebrough and Kirkham are getting at (they're usually really accurate and exceptionally well researched.) Maybe he was the first professional international. Either way we can't include it whilst it's unverified. I'm doing a personal project to write up every player United have had so have to rely on C+K as they're the only published info on most of them I have. No worries about changing the other ref - I thought it was sailing close to WP:RS but with the amount of detail on there I wanted to include it with a view to replacing it at some point.Bladeboy1889 (talk) 10:02, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

2011-2012

Cracking. Good to hear. If you need help, let me know. I'll leave you to deal with the English literature part as I'm dyslexic and I make mistakes, which you have to clean up haha. But any help you need, just give us a shout. Also now that the 2012-13 season has got going, I think we can add some stuff and tables ect which are on the 2011-12 article but not the 2012-13 article, such as Starting 11 and international call ups ect. IJA (talk) 09:30, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

The starting eleven section might be one to avoid to be honest. There was a discussion on WP:Footy about them being WP:OR and that they should all be deleted (as is generally the favorite topic there - finding ways to bully people and to delete and remove as much content as possible.) To be honest I was a bit surprised it didn't get raised in the GA review though. Deff go for an international call up one though. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 09:42, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Invite Blades Task Force

Hello Bladeboy1889 thanks for the message. As you have seen I do have an interest in Blade things and also am very new to wiki. I have done a handful of edits when I have worked out the editing format, it is quite time consuming. Yes I will have a think about joining the Sheffield United task force time permitting. Charles Green

Hi there, I noticed you added the Charles Green article to the Sheffield Utd directors category. I've tried to expand the article but can only really say a lot about the Rangers stuff. Apart from knowing he wasn't popular with many Sheffield Utd fans I can't really add much to make it encyclopedic. Any chance you'd be interested in adding some content on his time at SU? Sparhelda 18:39, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

I've added some info from the United Who's Who. And you're right, he was pretty universally unpopular with United fans! Bladeboy1889 (talk) 09:07, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Oops he is on loan with Alfreton. His loan deal was extended to 6 Jan and I've made the necessary updates. IJA (talk) 12:44, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Good spot - I'd been meaning to try and find out what was going on with him, as usual the club have not bothered about posting any updates. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 11:26, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
I searched his name into google news and somewhere there is usually some update/ information. Aye I can help with some of the articles mate. IJA (talk) 11:37, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, when updating the timestamp in football players' infoboxes, please take care that you do not delete the "pcupdate =" like you did with this edit. In that case, the timestamp is not shown in the infobox anymore which should be avoided. --Jaellee (talk) 20:23, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

New articles for players

Hi mate. I've created three articles for three former Blades, Tom Johnson (footballer born 1911), Seth King and Ernest Milton. I was wondering if there is anything you can add to them? Things like place of birth and date of death ect. IJA (talk) 15:40, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

I'll have a look but the main source form me is always the Who's Who book which I see you've referenced already for a couple of them so I assume you've mined that for information? Bladeboy1889 (talk) 08:43, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Yeh I got that for career statistics, I just don't know where they were born and stuff. The articles look a wee bit blank without this info. IJA (talk) 19:48, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi guys. I hope you don't mind me poking my nose in here! I have a cop of Joyce which has some further info on these players. I can't add this at the moment as I only have access to my I-pad but will do so later. Remind me if I haven't done so in 48 hours. By the way, Joyce's statistics are quite a bit less than yours. Are you including wartime matches? --- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 10:49, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
I'll check the stats with Clareborough and Kirkham's book later - I think talk may have inadvertently lifted total stats rather than just league when creating them. C+K have United app data broken down by competition for every player so it's easy enough to cross reference. Thanks Bladeboy1889 (talk) 11:12, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

BEn Starosta - incorrect deletions

Hi Bladeboy,

Firstly, let me start by saying well done on putting together a page for Ben Starosta.

However, as previously mentioned by LauraHale "There are too many external links. Chose two. Wikipedia is not a link directory." I raise this as your reliance on such, is causing you to cite incorrect and/or misleading information. I can assure you that you are 100% wrong, in the deletions you made to the revisions made on 18 February 2013. For example, Ben is NOT playing right back for Global FC but rather Centre Midfield - how do I know? Because I was at the game and advise the PFF and other clubs. Anything can be written on the internet without accountability, so when the athlete Ben provides the information, especially in regard to games he played for Poland, U20 Poland and Sheffield United, which was updated on the above-mentioned date, that surpasses a internet link you have sourced from an unknown internet source.

Please refrain from deleting the CORRECT inclusions that have been added.

Many thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hinko72 (talkcontribs) 00:09, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

You seem to misunderstand the nature of Wikipedia. The comments about external links referred to the list at the base of the article, the whole point of WP is that information should be cited and referenced - if it hasn't been reported then it doesn't go into an article, particularly BLPs. Secondly you are by your own admission non-neutral and are trying to change the article to be more positive by inventing a more accomplished career for the player. I can guarantee you that Ben Starosta never played a league game for Sheffield United, nor did he play for the Polish national side whilst with the club. This is confirmed by his Soccerbase profile which is not an 'unkown internet source' as you claim. I also attend every SUFC game so would have remembered it if he had, plus the fact that I have numerous programmes and books specifically stating that he never played a first team game. Please stop trying to manipulate information on Wikipedia for personal ends. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 08:55, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Ben Starosta

Bladeboy1889, i cant believe it has come to this.. the real Ben Starosta having to sign up to Wikipedia but you are starting to be too busy for my liking! I appreciate your help if you have participated in the past but clearly your are not up to date on everything and would appreciate it if you left it to the professionals themselves, and more importantly my own stats and information which obviously i've saved and so has my father throughout my career! I have also read many websites and wikipedia in the past and have no recollection of previous statements or knowledge and been left scratching my head! the best knowledge would be from me or my family itself who really know the truth! So now please stop, Thanks! Ben — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ben Starosta (talkcontribs) 12:07, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

So 'Ben' (Hinko72), as you have appearance stats that the rest of the world is not privy too could you list the four league games played for Sheffield United? Also when you were stood on the pitch at Darlington in the photo on this article [1] were you scratching your head wondering why you were there when it obviously wasn't happening? Bladeboy1889 (talk) 13:02, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

I can accept that you struggle with being told you are wrong but Im going to try one more time. Your last reference to 'Ben' (Hinko72) couldn't be further from the truth. Given how bright you make yourself out to be and have every detail on the internet at your disposal, you would have realised that the message you replied to was from Ben Starosta, writing from the Philippines - check the IP address and check mine and once again you will see (however not acknowledge) that you are once again wrong. Whilst your on the internet, supposedly finding all the "correct" information, why not create yourself another fictional FIFA superstar character! Hinko72 (talk) 13:37, 18 February 2013 (UTC)hinko72Hinko72 (talk) 13:37, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Yawn. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 14:03, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
Seems a very reasonable request from Bladeboy. Since Hinko72 (talk · contribs) and Ben Starosta (talk · contribs) are both so adamant that Starosta made four Premier League/Football League Championship appearances for Sheffield United, which no other source backs up, they should be able to provide details of those four matches (date and opponent)......... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 14:09, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Ben Starosta

This is ridiculous! If you know so much about my life, how is it that you think i was born to a Polish Family but brought up in England! I suppose thats true??!! Oh i never played for Poland also yes?? While i was on-loan to Lechia Gdansk i joined up with them on a Training Camp with the senior squad and played in a friendly. But i guess because its Poland it doesnt count yeh?! or because it doesnt say on-line oh wait sorry.. soccerbase cause everything on there is true?!! ha. Also i see that your trying to undermine my career also by not adding sub appearences in the league just starts?! Also plenty more cup games to go with that! You know if you could speak Polish i wouldnt mind cause then you might be able to find this Info out properly! So when i do get the real stats i dont want some busy body changing them when they cant keep up!! If i havent played for Darlington why is it on my wikipedia also Frickley?! And Alfreton Town??!! Do you just choose what you want on there and everyone elses knowledge and thoughts or oppinions dont count is that it??!!! Stop been OTT please mate! No more. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ben Starosta (talkcontribs) 03:58, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Ideas

Following Hoyland's resignation, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a managerial history for the Sheffield United F.C. Academy. I was wondering if you could assist with that please? I have no idea who was Academy manager before Pembo. Also I still think we should try and add a list of United captains to List of Sheffield United F.C. players. Regards IJA (talk) 23:10, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

I don't think I've got much info on the academy save for working through all the match programmes for recent years. John Warnock was manager when it was first set up but I'm sure there must have been a couple of others between him and Pemberton, but I can't recall who. I do have a list of captains which is in the latest version of the Complete SUFC book. I'd not got around to doing much with it as yet - it's on my list of things to do. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 10:59, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Affiliated clubs

Are we still affiliated with all them clubs? McCabe no longer has any connections with Hungary for example. Are will still affiliated with the South American clubs? I know we're still affiliated with CCM, but any more still active? IJA (talk) 13:03, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Enlightenment

I've seen from my watchlist that you're working on Enlightenment (Doctor Who), and it looks great. I've been cleaning up the classic series myself, though I have limited resources. I didn't know if you were looking for any reception information, so I thought I'd point out that there is a new Radio Times review, as well as a DVD review from DVD Talk and Den of Geek. Plus, the BBC website has The Discontinuity Guide and The Television Companion. Also, is there any way we could propose your reworked broadcast table to WP:WHO? The old one could use an update. Happy editing! Glimmer721 talk 16:34, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi - yes indeed, I've spent the weekend working on the Enlightenment article. I generally spend my time working on stuff about Sheffield United but fancied a break from that. I've always been a fan of Who, particularly the classic series and when I was looking at the Doctor Who articles I was amazed to see there was only one, Genesis of the Daleks up at GA! Considering the wealth of reference information out there and the number of fans the programme has it seems very odd that more hasn't been done on these articles. I randomly chose Enlightenment simply because it was featured in last month's Fact of Fiction in DWM. I've been doing it some what haphazardly as I flick through the source material so it's not going up in any real order :) The intention was to expand the reception bit further but I'd only got through a couple of them before I went out for the evening - thanks for the links though, there were I couple there I've not seen. As for the table the existing template looks pretty old and to be honest doesn't serve any purpose as it could all be very simply done with a wikitable. Plus I don't think it meets current guidelines on tables anyway - so I was 'bold' and ditched it. Feel free to add anything you have into the article - I've got a bit more to do to exhaust my material but then I was going to nominate it for GA. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 08:50, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
I'm mostly limited to a few DVD releases and online sources, which was how Genesis came about (I'm currently working on Remembrance of the Daleks, with Earthshock and Day of the Daleks being the two other DVDs I have so far). City of Death is also pretty good, though there hasn't been a single or constant contributor and I haven't had the gall to nominate it. I've mostly just cleaned things up (they used to be bulleted lists) and add reception once I finish watching a serial. I have an index over at User:Glimmer721/ClassicWho just to keep track of everything - you're free to use it. Glimmer721 talk 00:33, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
City of Death is my single favourite story so if we can find the source material for that I'd love to help it to GA!Bladeboy1889 (talk) 01:07, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
As far as my experience has gone, source spotchecks are not usually done at GA-level. Most of the sources are from Doctor Who Magazine anyway...User:Redrose64 also helped me fill in some references with sources he had. Glimmer721 talk 00:47, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

The only thing I would suggest would be to reformat the lead a bit to match other Doctor Who articles; in particular, having the lead characters and actors somewhere and a bit on the ratings and reception. Also, if there is any way to work in free images to the text (like the production section), than that would definitely fulfill one of the criteria. Otherwise it is certainly good! Career Statistics

I think me and you should update all of United's players career statistics. Up for it mate? IJA (talk) 06:28, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

I was going to look at all the current squad at some point soon and check everything was up to date. I'm still working on my plan to make sure every player we've ever had has a decent article (or at least his United career is as full as possible) but work has meant I've not done much of that recently - I'm still in the 1890s! I've started work on the table of captains you mentioned a while back but again not finished it yet. I'd still like to get the club article up to GA as well but it always seems like such a big job I never get on with it. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 06:55, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

I've updated them - just needed the relevant fields separating out (although I removed a pointless extra row in the Coady one). You're right - apparently we've never won at Glanford Park (it's mentioned in the report on the club site) - technically we didn't win though... Bladeboy1889 (talk) 19:44, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Mark Yeates/claiming ownership of current/former Sheffield United players Wikipedia pages

Other people are allowed to edit Sheffield United related Wikipedia pages, not just you. Stop claiming ownership and engaging in edit wars with people who also edit these pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.44.243.163 (talk) 13:08, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

It's not about ownership or edit warring - it's about correctly updating the content in line with the MOS - you can view the football play MOS here. For clarity: the infobox should be timestamped when updated. A timestamp is created by adding five tildes (This is a tilde: ~ ) as per the MOS, not typing in prose and certainly not including 'Match played'. If a player has international appearances of any level then his infobox requires a timestamp to show the last time it was checked for accuracy - general consensus is that timestamps should remain in place until a player retires from playing completely. Also, I'm not sure where you get the idea that B internationals are unofficial and don't count from - they're sanctioned by FIFA. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 13:45, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Timestamps/JMHamo edit warring/Leon Best Wikipedia page

I thought I'd point this out since you and a couple of other usual suspects are giving me grief over arbitrary nonsense like timestamps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Best First of all that page is locked because of JMHamo edit warring, just like several dozen other pages on Wikipedia right now. Look at his stats and look at the timestamp. Now look at his Soccerbase page http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=38733. As of "21:36, 21 September 2013 (UTC)", he had 10 appearances and 1 goal, not 11 appearances and 2 goals. As of today, he is making his 13th appearance and has 2 goals. So a page is locked because of timestamps and the timestamp isn't even correct (and neither are the appearances). So don't preach to me about timestamps and don't report me for actually doing them properly — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.44.243.163 (talk) 14:33, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

You seem to fail to understand edit warring, page locks or MOS. Leon Best's page is semi-protected which prevents non-registered users from editing it due to persistent disruptive edits by users editing under an IP address. There is nothing stopping a registered user from editing it. Pages are supposed to follow the MOS - if you think the MOS needs changing then take it up on the relevant project page but until that point stop complaining when other people correct the article.Bladeboy1889 (talk) 14:52, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

Ched Evans Wiki Page

Hi Bladeboy1889, I notice that you have just removed a new paragraph that was added this morning, in connection to Ched's upcoming Criminal Cases Review. I understand that you are not privy to such details, but this is indeed factually accurate and can be substantiated (see Ched's website [1] for details).

If you wish to clarify any facts, please feel free to get in touch with his legal and investigative team (libertoninvestigations@gmail.com) who will be happy to clarify this point with you.

In the meantime, if you would undo your edit, so that the Wiki page is accurate, it would be much appreciated.

Andyblank (talk) 08:59, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

All content on wikipedia should be be independently verifiable, notable and requires a neutral POV. I believe the content you have added fails on all three counts, hence it's removal. The actions of a lawyer looking at whether there are grounds to appeal are not notable in themselves, there is no actual evidence of this anyway aside from a self published account on a personal website and the statement "with hope that this will lead to a further appeal." is not neutral. (Wikipedia does not hope Evans will be able to appeal, and neither does it have a desire that an appeal would be turned down.) Finally you are obviously personally connected with Evans and involved in his campaign to clear himself and therefore should not be actively editing content on the subject as that contravenes wikipedia guidelines - this website is not a place to campaign. This is nothing to do with my personal views on Evans' innocence or otherwise, quiet the opposite in fact, just upholding the governance of Wikipedia. On this basis I have removed the information once more. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 08:59, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Joe Smith

Hello. Came across the page Joseph Smith (footballer born 1898) last night, created via some messy page moving, which I think I cleared up. Checking in Joyce's FL Players book, it looks like he's supposed to be the Joe Smith that played for Kiveton Park/Sheff Utd/South Shields/Derby, so there's no way he was born in 1898. Joyce doesn't give a birthyear, so I was wondering if your Sheff Utd players book does, so he could be moved somewhere more suitable. If not, I'll move him to Joe Smith (fullback), along the lines of the existing Joe Smith (winger). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:44, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Assuming it's supposed to be the same guy (Worksop / Kiverton Park / Blades / South Shields / Derby) it gives his birth date as 1888. I can add in some more info for him when I have a bit of time tomorrow maybe. Died in 1928 btw. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 20:19, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
I've updated the page and moved to a new title. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 10:21, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Good job he wasn't born a few months later, there's already a Joe and a Joseph Smith (footballer born 1889)... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:10, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

penalties

Have a look at Norwich City's version of our article here. Do you think we could add a penalty section to our article mate? IJA (talk) 19:37, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

I did think about that last season but never got around to coming up with a template. Do you want to have a go at borrowing the Norwich one and reworking? Build it on the talk page of the article and we can work on it there.Bladeboy1889 (talk) 08:57, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
Aye, I'll steal Norwich's. I'm just trying to think of penalties we've had this season. I can only think of Porter's and I'm sure that Rotherham scored one against us. IJA (talk) 14:06, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

WFT was that IP block thing about? Anyway I'm struggling to adjust the statistics table for McFadzean, could you have a go please mate? Also on our table of top scorers, should we add an own goal bit to the table? Regards IJA (talk) 11:39, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Someone put in a blanket IP range block across the work system which was a pain! I've done the McFadzean table. As for own goals I reckon a note below the table giving details of OGs will suffice. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 12:09, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:02, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Career stats tables

Re this edit, please be aware of the correct MOS, which can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players#Career statistics. GiantSnowman 13:40, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

There's nothing there to suggest that loans should all be grouped up at the bottom - my understanding of chronological tabular MOS is that is should be just that - chronological. The changes you've made make his career jump up and down around the table. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 13:52, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
The consensus at FOOTY that led to the implementation of the new-style table was that it is more important to group stats by team, as opposed to by season, and then in chronological order. GiantSnowman 13:55, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Which makes absolutely no sense as at first glance the table now implies that he played for the various clubs after leaving Blackburn (which he didn't), now no longer provides a season-by-season record as you have to move up and down the table to find out what he did year on year, and it isn't included in the MOS you've cited which is hardly helpful - how on earth would anyone know about it? 14:05, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Uh yes it is, I have slightly adjusted the MOS to better reflect the consensus. Your version is incredibly untidy - as I've already said, it is more important to show what he did while at a club then what he did in a particular season. What's the point in having all his Blackburn seasons spread around? GiantSnowman 18:32, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
1) You've simply gone and unilaterally changed the MOS to include a loan since citing something that wasn't there in the first place 2) If its more important to show what a player did at a club then why bother breaking it down by seasons at all? If that's the case then totals for each would suffice as per Soccerbase. 3) Because it's a chronological record of his career - that's the whole point. So if he stays at Blackburn for another 20 years (unlikely but possible) will it really make sense for the stats for 2033 to be followed in the table by some stats for 2011? Where's the usability for the reader in that?Bladeboy1889 (talk) 11:21, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
You seem to be ignoring the fact that it's far neater to group a player's stats for each club together than to dot them around between his various loan spells away from the club. Plus you'd have to be a moron not to notice the "Season" column doesn't run strictly in chronological order. – PeeJay 13:43, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Why is it neater? And why is supposed neatness better than ignoring chronology and general wikipedia MOS? And why would you be a moron to skim down a players career and not notice the random numbering? The example on the player MOS is very simple - but what if Ryan Giggs for example had had a couple of short loan spells in say 1993 and 1995? Are you seriously suggesting that they should be listed after 2013-14? A user wanting to see his career progression should be expected to scroll up and down what appears to be a chronological table? isn't someone glancing at the table likely to get the impression he spent his career at Man U and then finished with a couple of short spells elsewhere? Bladeboy1889 (talk) 15:33, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Bladeboy, you're ignoring the fact that this table (including my addition) reflects community consensus. It is as simple as that and requires no further debate. GiantSnowman 10:27, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Yo

I'm pretty sure that the United stats for Danny Philliskirk are wrong. Also do you think it is worth mentioning Paul Lambert's comments about the FA Cup in the article? It has featured in all major sport news. IJA (talk) 14:54, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Good spot on Philiskirk stats - I think I've fixed them now. I was thinking the same about Lambert but not sure how you'd include it - despite his comments, which he claims was a misquote, he put out a full team so technically it didn't have a baring on the game or our season. Had they played a reserve side then it would be a lot clearer. Any suggestions? Bladeboy1889 (talk) 17:05, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't know how we can mention it. Also Clough has come out in Lambert's defence. IJA (talk) 19:06, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
I've done quite a lot of editing to the article, can you just check it for mistakes please? Also any news on Simon Lappin? IJA (talk) 20:17, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Sean McGinty and Tony McMahon

I'm struggling to update their career tables, could you help please? IJA (talk) 14:58, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Done. McMahons stats for last season had gone awry somewhere. I've added in a total row for his United tenure as well.Bladeboy1889 (talk) 10:45, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

The table doesn't seem to add up right for the England Total section, could you have a look please mate? I know you're good with this sort of thing. Cheers IJA (talk) 14:42, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

Also could you check Flynn's goals in the table, not sure if they're correct either. Regards IJA (talk) 15:24, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Updated both of them - Howard had gained some appearances somewhere and Flynn lost some so the totals were out of synch - been through and checked them all against soccerbase now. I also found Flynn's apps for Wrexham so have updated those. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 10:21, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

On our article (it pretty much is ours) I've not done top scorers table or the disciplinary table. Also Ben Davies's career stats table is weird. I've not had time to sort any of this out mate. Just to let you know if you get any free time. I'll sort it out myself tomorrow night if you haven't got round to it. Also simos don't add up right on List of Sheffield United F.C. players. Come end of season, we can give this a proper update though, so no pressure. Cheers IJA (talk) 23:55, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

I've done the season goals and cards at lunch time. Simonsen's total in the list of players page should now be correct. Davies table needs starting from scratch and replacing - I might do it over the weekend. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 15:00, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Cheers mate. The Davies table is horrible, it really does need re-doing! IJA (talk) 15:33, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!
