userfying of User TV Single Ep

[edit]

I thought the policy was to move WikiProject Userboxes into their Wikiproject space, and not to userfy them. At least that's how I once understood the outcome of the discussion, but I never looked at it after the whole discussion was concluded. Do you know more of this?

P.S. WP:UM says "All controversial and divisive userboxes, including those currently in Wikipedia:Userboxes will be migrated out of template space into userspace or an appropriate subpage, such as a corresponding WikiProject." I'm not quite sure how it can be controversial or divisive, but I guess someone deemed it so. TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 14:12, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well 1: this way you lost it's edit history and 2: yes i do think it should be a subpage of the project. I have asked for the original template to be undeleted, so that it can be properly moved. TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 20:25, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for sweeping up behind me; I hadn't realised it should be film not movie. :) Abtract 21:06, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Film-editor-stub category

[edit]

User:Luigi Bob has recently been creating articles on some notable film editors and has brought it to my attention that a stub category doesn't exist for film editors. As film editors are a part of film and help to rid of red links in films please lend your support or opposition at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. There are hundreds not stub categoirzed as editors and there are many many missing from wikipedia and I beleive they are an important part of the film making process. Thanks Ernst Stavro Blofeld 22:48, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. What do you mean? Template:Film-director-stub Template:Film-producer-stub Template:Cinematographer-stub have existed for a while-the sheer anount of film biogrpahies means that they were split before. I think US screenwriter does as well. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 14:02, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

[edit]

Hi and thank you for reviewing my Social class in the United States article. I really appreciate your in-depth review and thoughtful suggestions. I have implemented the first 25 on the list and should get around to making all other improvements within the next 48h. Once I'm done, I'll let you know. For today, I'm going to get some sleep. Formula BMW

[edit]

Thanks for taking the time to review the Formula BMW article for GA. I think the main contributor to that article is on wikibreak at present, which probably explains why none of your points have been addressed. I'll have a stab at fixing them, but was confused by '17 year old' to '17-year-old' - I can't remember ever seeing that usage (although I suspect I would skip over it if I did, so that's hardly conclusive!). Would you mind giving me the link to the appropriate bit of Wiki guidance on it? Ta. 4u1e 18:07, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mozart article

[edit]

Hello! Thanks for the message regarding my nomination of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for GA status. About the inline citations, although I saw some sporadic "citation needed" tag, there is not any citation problem tags that apply for the whole section/article, and mass removal of content would be unrealistic. Second, myself has done no edit to the article, the reason I nominated it is that it is a former featured article, which itself is highly likely suitable for a GA status as many failed/former FA have been. Anyways, thank you! I will help improving it if I can. Wooyi 20:32, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have implemented all your suggestions into the article (at least I'm pretty sure I did ;-)). If I have missed something in my clean-up let me know, I'll re-read the article once again tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for being patient. Regards, Signaturebrendel 07:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of things have come up for me to take care of tonight and tomorrow, so it'll probably take me until around 1400 tomorrow. I guess I did overlook a couple of improvements-I'll have them fixed by tomorrow evening. Regards, Signaturebrendel 08:12, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS, hope you did well on your exam! Signaturebrendel
Thank you for your patience and continued assistance. I was quite unexpecately busy (as you have probably gotten from my posts) the last few days and have a project coming up next week. I will, however, check the above list of improvements once more and proof-read the article within the next week. Best Regards, Signaturebrendel 17:55, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of films and a category for deletion

[edit]

Hi Nehrams, I wanted to let you know that some lists of films are up for deletion: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films/Categorization#Category:Lists of films with features in common. I'm not sure I like the category, but the lists do have some work in them. Hoverfish Talk 23:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am quite in agreement about which lists should go and which to stay. The thing with the category is that as long as some of the lists stay, we will have them again loose all over the parent category, which is why I created the subcategory in Lists of films. Hoverfish Talk 07:18, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ty Cobb GA review

[edit]

Hi Nehrams2020. Concering your task list for Ty Cobb, many of the citation requests are already there. Specifically, the quote at the end of many of the paragraphs is the citation for that entire paragraph. For example, "By the time he died, he owned three bottling plants, in Santa Maria, California; Twin Falls, Idaho; and Bend, Oregon; and owned over 20,000 shares of stock." This information is included in the citation listed at the end of that paragraph (i.e. #18). Are you asking that I cite #18 twice in the paragraph? I have some additional questions about items in your list, but time does not permit me to ask those right now so I'll leave a follow-up message. Thought this would be a good start though. Thanks. --Roswell native 00:09, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying on the citations, I'll add them in as you suggest. Better too many than too few. I am having a problem with one of your requests though, specifically "There appears to be a hard return between the fourth and fifth paragraphs in the Early years section that should be removed." There is no hard return. This spacing appears to be a result of the quote box and the images. Looks like another editor has tried to get it to look better, but I'm not sure what else to do.
Also, depending on my available time, I may not get all these chages done in 7 days. Is that an issue?
One last thing, I added more info and citations at the bottom of the last paragraph for "Early life and baseball career" section as I ran across some additional sources that gave more detail. Let me know if that has introduced any additional issues. Thanks, --Roswell native 06:19, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nehrams, I am still working on the top list of requests; however, after a good bit of research I can't seem to find any sources for the four remaining quotes or even paraphrses for these. I honestly do not see any harm in deleting all of them. The only one that might be a issue IMHO is the one about how many times Cobb faced Johnson, but I have cited the rest of that paragraph in detail and provided a good bit more historical info about that one so I think it will be fine. Your thoughts? --Roswell native 17:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nehrams - I think I have finally addressed every item and citation request (a few were moved to the talk page). I have changed the article a good bit in the process (I also added numerous more refs I found in the process) so you may want to give it another good once over to insure I did not create any other issues. Thanks. --Roswell native 07:07, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your excellent GA review. We shouldn't have much trouble fixing those issues. --Steve (Slf67) talk 06:48, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just a point of clarification, when you say "inline citation" do you mean a citation for the line/sentence under discussion as apposed to having citation for the whole of a paragraph? or does it mean something else? Alec -(answering machine) 06:59, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Hammett Good article nomination

[edit]

Hey, I have a couple of questions about your comments regarding the article. For example, what do you mean exactly by "The Playing career section needs to be split into more specific sections, as this makes the article not look very broad which is one of the criterion for the GA to pass."? I have talked about his provincial, Super 12, and international career. I havn't split into sections because the article is chronologically based. Is what you want for me to split the career section into sub sections? Or is it to add more information about a particular aspect of his career? I'm kinda confused because of the not look very broad comment. Next thing, I can't find a large amount about him on his early life. He has not had a biography published, and most of the material I used as references were newspaper articles I found on Factiva. Is elaborating on his early life very necessary? If so, what specifically would you like me to add (and find out about him)? Thanks. - Shudda talk 08:11, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I do have a couple more questions. Is what I have done so far ok? Also, what more do you want me to include in the lead? What requires more detail? I am going to try and find more info on his birth, and stuff like that. However there prob isn't much more to say about the rugby. It's a popular sport in New Zealand and he was selected for representative teams from a young age. Thats no doubt what led him into the professional game. There is no college sport or anything over here either. So I'll try my best, but I'm not sure how much I will be able to find. Any more specific pointers you could give me would be great. Thanks. - Shudda talk 09:05, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have fixed up the other minor thing you asked for. I have not been able to find anything else on Hammett's background. I've spend quite a lot of time searching, but with no success. One thing I do want to find is his occupation before becoming a professional rugby player (the sport was amateur until late 1995). So far I've been unsuccessful. Hopefully the article is up to scratch now, I'll definitely be submitting for peer-review once this process is done. - Shudda talk 01:16, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I feel you deserve it. Hey looks like I did a good job on Abbas Kiarostami!! It is now a featured article candidate! Ernst Stavro Blofeld 17:32, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome. Yes the work on Argentine cinema is going really well - I also think we have just about info boxed those earlier films that were started quickly thanks for your help with that. It really begins to take shape when you see multiple links begining to appear in articles from all of the actors, direcotrs, cinematogrpahers, editors etc that have been started to rid of the red links -those lists help in setting it out. As the films are started it some cool articles are being started like Ada Falcon and Emilio Kauderer. The Ada article is interesting - very strange her disappearing like that! See ya. Good article nom - OK City Bombing

[edit]

Good article review

[edit]

Greetings, I left the following on the talk page for Oklahoma City bombing as well.

I am conducting a good article review for Oklahoma City bombing. There are some issue I feel the primary editors can address so thus I am not going to fail the article, instead I will put it on hold and wait for the editors to address the issues.

  • Lead: Doesn't really do the article justice as far size goes. See Wikipedia:Lead
  • Grammar/Copy edit: There are several minor grammatical errors which were quite noticeable at first read through. Make sure this article gets a thorough copy edit.
  • POV: Watch for unsourced clear POV such as: "Many of the 9/11 victims' families received hundreds of thousands of dollars or more of federal assistance (in exchange for the agreement not to hold airlines legally responsible for the security breech)." Statements of this ilk are definite POV. They make the article seem critical towards the government. State the facts and let the reader interpret them for themselves.
  • Clarity: This is an example of something that is unclear: "The victims ranged in age from three months to seventy-three years old (including three unborn children of pregnant women)." Now I am confused, was there 168/169 victims or was their 171/172 victims. Who is a victim according to the official casualty count, no reason to ignite the abortion debate in this article.
  • References: Though seemingly well-cited it is hard to tell how often individual sources are used because the refs aren't combined. Try giving the refs names like you did with some of them. The first seven or eight were from the same source, albeit different pages, but it was only a 30 page section of the book, I wouldn't call that too ambiguous to combine.
  • Added minor note: So what ever happened with the whole John Doe #2 thing?

The "On Hold" status will be good for 7 days after which, if these concerns aren't met I will be forced to fail the GA nomination. Thanks for all your work so far. --A mcmurray 22:24, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can go over it again for those errors and post them here, it might be tomorrow. I got really far into my review before I realized it might fail and that you could probably address most of the issues in a short amount time considering they are all fairly minor.A mcmurray 22:30, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. I am humbled before greatness.A mcmurray 22:36, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Sorry I never got that list of copy editing mistakes I noticed. Do you still need it? My WikiStress level has exploded in the last week thanks to spammers, trolls, vandals and the like. I will still finish my review when the hold ends. Let me know if you still want some input, I can go over the article for copy editing errors or whatever else you need. I would have just fixed them myself if I didn't think it would be disqualifying to me as a reviewer. Anyway, sorry for the delay.A mcmurray (talkcontribs) 19:38, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: I have created tools to simply your Where I have been section of your user page

[edit]

I see you have a list of nations and/or states/provinces on your user page. I would like to offer you some templates for this task I created for my own list. One pair of templates will create entries identical to the one I use. (I suggest you copy my legend if you use them.) Other templates will provide just a flag or name (nation or province/state).

Highlights
  • All use a simple code.
    • Nations are identified with a two letter top-level Internet domain code (except for the United States of America, which uses "USA").
    • States and provinces are identified with postal codes (so far anyway).
  • Nation and state/province names are linked.
  • The low level templates return flag images with just the filename allowing you to control the image size and caption.
  • All flag images located so far are SVG.
  • If any flag images or names on your page officially change, your user page will get the update as soon as I know about it.

One drawback
  • Currently the province templates can only look up data for the United States of America and Canada. However, additional capability can be readily added. All I need to do is create a starter template and let you add the provinces.

Thank You

Blocking after Final Warning

[edit]

Usually if the final warning is a day old its already considered stale. The anon you reported had been given its final warning on the 15th. The best thing to do is issue a newer warning, if they vandalize past that then they are due for a block. Many of these IP addresses are shared so that's why current warnings and vandalism is what indicates whether its appropriate to block.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:51, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FBMW GA review

[edit]

I am disappointed to see that you chose to fail this article just one week after first reviewing it while I was on a wikibreak and unable to respond to your comments. I also feel that your caveats are a little on the picky side, particularly in comparison to my previous GA articles. I worked my butt off making that article from scratch, with little input from other editors, so I must admit to being slightly biased, so I am willing to attend to them when time allows. I will leave a message for you when it is done. Adrian M. H. 21:34, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have attended to the article, and I think that your caveats have now been addressed. Though I would point out that 4u1e is probably right to question the use of hyphens in ages; it is not common British usage, but has seemingly begun to creep in recently. However, I have left them as per 4u1e's changes for the purposes of the review. Regards, Adrian M. H. 19:56, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Swinging GA Nom

[edit]

First, thank you for taking the time to write the article review for Swinging. I personally found your comments to be constructive and helpful. You mentioned that the primary criterion for the article not passing GA at this time was that "it only has a few sources for the information in the article". While some may consider 11 distinct sources to be more than "a few", it certainly never hurts to have more, in the interest of scholarship.

Therefore, when you have a chance, would you mind terribly marking up the article with {{fact}}, {{specify}}, and {{verify source}} tags in some of the areas that you felt lacked attribution? I'm sure that doing so would help give direction to those who have been editing the article on a regular basis.

Regarding the lack of images, as you can see on the talk page (right above the GA fail post), the absence of images was discussed. Very few, if any, sex-based articles have images, and I'm not really sure what kind of image would be helpful to the article in any case. If you have suggestions (i.e. "The image should show x, y, but not z"), please post on the talk page. Of course, lack of images itself is not grounds for failing a GA nom. Hopefully your other concerns will be corrected in due course, however.

Again, thanks for your helpful review. OscarTheCat3 17:26, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Essjay. Essjay was accused of lying about everything, including his good credentials (which he had used in disputes). He was accused of lying to reporters and otherwise defaming the good Wikipedia name. There was a very large discussion about him on the Community Noticeboard and even a Request for comment. Essjay's talk page was constantly full of trollish and otherwise hurtful comments asking him to resign, accuing him of lacking ethics, ect. The thing that was most upsetting, was the number of people who turned on him and stabbed him in the back after they found out what he did. Although, there were many good people who did not, and stuck by him until the end. Jimbo, who Essjay was close with, realized the vastness of this situation and the communities want for him to resign, Jimbo asked for Essjay resignation on March 3, 2007. Last night (morning UTC), Essjay finally retired and asked us to delete his userspace and flags from various project, leaving the sad notation that he will be gone forever.

Cinema templates

[edit]

I am a bit worried you might all oppose my efforts here, but Just to let you know I have started the Cinema of... templates in Category:WikiProject Films templates. As with all the articles related to Argentine cinema I would like to see the cinema box at the bottom of film pages related to the particular cinema connecting actors directors films lists cinematographers making the film topic seem more concise. If they are placed at the very bottom of every page I don't see that they can be a problem and help connect articles related to the relative cinema very nicely. Users such as Esn have said it was a great idea. E.g Sergio Leone see the footer. I haven't added many yet though. E.g

For use in italian film and cinema articles

For use in Finnish film and cinema articles

I would hope agree they look fine and are concise for a footer template -this way quick navigation between all aspects of the countries cinema articles can be achived quickly. I don;t really want to overdo any templates but I feel these are very useful for each country What do you think? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 22:22, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

E.g they would be placed at the footer of pages like Dario Argento and Sergio Leone , Allegro non troppo etc. I think they look fine and are very useful? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 22:24, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If possible it would also be good to squeeze in festivals and studios you know really attempt to consolidate an understanding of each industry. It really would make browsing through all the articles much easier. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 22:43, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Maltese Falcon

[edit]

I have written The Maltese Falcon (1941 film) today which is currently a start class article please have look at it and tell me if I should bother to reference and copy edit it fully to eventually make it a featured article? Do you think my work has potential? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 20:11, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for taking the time. The next stage will be to copy edit, condense it a little and reference then peer review it for a GA. The Abbas Kiarostami went from a stub-start to a featured article in three weeks! so I know it can be done. As you said if that article hadn't been collaboration of the week I wouldn't have seen it and worked on it. I feel we need to highlight more films in this way which need development more prominently . All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 21:26, 8 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Great fire of Newcastle and Gateshead

[edit]

Nehrams2020, thanks for taking the time to assess the GA status of Great fire of Newcastle and Gateshead a couple of weeks ago. I'm happy with your advice, but I have raised a query on referencing the article at Wikipedia talk:Citing sources which I reproduce for you here. Grateful for any of your thoughts on the matter. thanks. --Tagishsimon (talk)

The article Great fire of Newcastle and Gateshead is drawn mainly from one source, *A record of the Great Fire in Newcastle and Gateshead, 1855, George Routledge & Co, from Google Book Search. It was rightly knocked back from consideration as a Good Article for lack of inline refs.
Can anyone provide advice on how best to reference the article in a way that might get it to GA, in light of the single source problem. (There are actually three references cited at the foot, and I've found one or two other passing mentions in other publications, none of which are better sources than the main source.)
The issue for me is that I could, with ease, reference every second sentence to the same book. That doesn't seem helpful.
Is there a case for accepting as a valid form of reference a single pointer at the foot of the document to the primary source. Alternately, do we debar from GA status articles which have only a single (albeit relatively unimpeachable) source?

Your suggested edits have been performed as per the GA criteria, and more. Please do check the article and comment further, if you would like. Ariedartin JECJY Talk 16:20, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Rex Grossman GA Review

[edit]

Hi, thanks for all the helpful suggestions and comments you left on the Rex Grossman Discussion Page. I have addressed almost all of them with the exception of the #7, as keeping a two column statistic’s record was the result of a compromise between another user and I. It is also the format being used on Peyton Manning’s article. If it’s still not okay, I’ll change it to the Brett Favre Style. Hopefully, it’s all good now :-), thanks again for the review, I appreciate your time and work. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  23:48, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Film icon series

[edit]

Hi, I just installed GIMP 2 the other day and am learning to treat png's with transparent layers, shadows, etc. My main reason was to modify and standardize the film-flag icons at the above section by Blofeld. I have done the Italian right, but I don't know the process of reuploading an image. Do i upload it with another name and ask an admin to do the swap, or is there a more practical way. I ask because more uploaded icons need work and I can't install this Wiki-compatible "external application" which treats them on the spot. / Lately I am up to 20 boxes a day, but that's my limit. After 20 infoboxes (and other WP discussions going on) I tend to fall into Nintendo. Hoverfish Talk 19:14, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Actors and Directors

[edit]

I don't know whether you agree or not butI have always beleived that actors and directors and cinema characters are tied to our Film Project. Nobody can dispute the fact that they are part of cinema and films and I beleive we have at least some responsibility to upkeep them if they are directly linked from our film articles. However rather than setting up a seperate project what about Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Actors and Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Directors. THis way they are a part (or at least tied) to our film project. Each page would highlight the articles that require most attention, missing articles etc for better project coordination. WikiProject Biography is so enormoous and I see hundreds of actor and director articles in very poor shape and neglect -Biogrpahy cannot work to effectively concentrate on hundreds of thousands of articles at once!!. The cinema characters would be a part of both projects. Ther is no obligation but it would certianly help to organize it all better, However if nobody wants it as part of films then of course they can be set up independently. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 18:50, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Infoboxes

[edit]

Hi, I've been adding images and infoboxes to a few films a day for the past week or so, but following conversation with another editor, I just want to check I'm doing it properly. I have been adding wiki links to actors, directors etc in the infobox, but then removing links from the text of the article if there is duplciation (for instance, I did an infobox for Absolute_Beginners which has David Bowie linked in the infobox but not in the text. Is this the right way round, or should all instances of the artistses name been wiki-linked? Thanks for any advice StuartDouglas 09:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed you've been improving the Gladiator article. It's coming along nicely. I did some work on it early on, in the Production section. I was wondering if you would mind reviewing my article on William Monahan? I'm running the article through WP:FAC and I'm trying to get as many opinions as I can. Your comments would be of great help.-BillDeanCarter 03:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your review was helpful. I made the alien -> unfamiliar change. As for the wikilinks, there is a limit to how many you can choose, but Catholic and Hollywood are good ones. Thanks. As for the standalone sentence, it's kind of an afterthought, and I'm reluctant to include it in the previous paragraph. I'll see. I do pass by WP:Films once in a while, but I'm also working from Wikipedia:WikiProject Screenwriters. I look forward to seeing what you do with Leslie Nielsen's article.-BillDeanCarter 21:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DeKalb County Courthouse

[edit]

I have been working on DeKalb County Courthouse (Illinois). How expansive should the notable trials section be, I currently have it under "Circuit court history" and talk about a major early case, 1866, a case from the 1960s and a case from the 1970s, there are of course other cases that were prominent, which I can add, but I was mostly wondering how thorough the section will have to be to pass GA criteria. Also, is the "Significance" section I added, more along the lines you were thinking?

The dates have presented a problem. The current courthouse dates were no problem but I am having trouble finding anything beyond a month or a year for the earlier buildings to have the name "DeKalb County Courthouse," is this okay, or should I journey to the history room at the local library and pour over building records, I could but not in the amount of time required by the on hold.

Mostly I was just hoping you could take a glance and let me know where I stand as of now. IvoShandor 08:40, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your comments re. GA on McCarthyism

[edit]

Hi -- I just wanted to thank you for the very thorough review you did of this article. I don't know whether anyone will feel motivated to fix that long list of items you noted, but as one of the major contributors to the article, I wanted to say that the time and effort you spent on the review is appreciated. KarlBunker 10:22, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Surprisingly (to me, anyway) almost all the issues you mentioned have been fixed. One that remains is the issue with footnotes. I don't want to make that change, because it can be risky: If there's a series of references to a single book and all but the first are abbreviated, a later edit that unwittingly removes the first, un-abreviated reference, can foul the whole thing up. I know there are less-risky ways to get the same effect (like Harvard references), but I'm not willing to go to that much trouble (and I'd be surprised if anyone else is). Anyway, I'm hoping you'll consider the current version worth passing. Part of the "Continuing controversy" section has been rewritten, but other than that the changes have been confined to the technical fixes you mentioned. Thanks again! KarlBunker 15:06, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I never was fond of being top on anything, but just in case there are any benefits from being in a tops group, I'll check the link. I am also not in violent films, but I just read yesterday in BBC about all the complaints raised by 300 and had my thoughts. For one, I am in contact with an editor doing lots of good to Persian culture and he has said that since the Islamic revolution Persian culture is being distroyed. Imagine now how suddenly all these iranian officials complain for their cultural roots. It might turn out that this film raises local appreciation for the Persian culture after all! :) Hoverfish Talk 08:50, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Alright I am working on Ivo Shandor, for obvious reasons. What else could I do to bring it up to GA (besides add the missing refs), I don't know what else to write about a character who is only mentioned in Ghostbusters not actually seen. Any tips and advice would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. IvoShandor 14:39, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Quills" Overhaul...

[edit]

Hi, Nehrams! Again, thank you so much for your warm welcome to Wikipedia and your encouragement when I was tentatively poking around Quills with my first edits. I'm continuing to improve (I hope!) the article, but as it's still rated Start-class, I'm not prepared to submit it for a peer review just yet. I was hoping you might look in on me there and make sure I'm on the right track. I know you've got a ton on your plate and are currently on vacation, so when you get back, I would be much obliged! :) Thank you again. - M. F. Gaede 18:57, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for getting back to me so quickly, especially after having been on vacation! Your suggestions are much appreciated and will be implemented as soon as I have time. (Stupid work interfering with my Wikitime!) Also, thank you for the spell check. I think with all the red squiggly lines in OpenOffice, I started ignoring the real mistakes as well. When I put Quills up for a GA nomination I will indeed let you know! :) Thank you! -M. F. Gaede 17:56, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Goodness, already back again! A quick question--I'm working on the historical inaccuracy section of the article and was wondering if a very detailed list form would be all right? I have about 5 points that I'm including-- physical resemblance, Madeleine LeClerc, the asylum productions, de Sade's death, and the publication of Justine, many of which are sourced by one article (for now-- I plan to make a run to the library eventually to get some book sources, but my feet hurt tonight! ;) ) and it looks really nice and organized to me in list form. Have any thoughts on whether this idea is okay to implement? Thank you again for all your help (and your time!) -M. F. Gaede 02:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Casino Royale

[edit]

I have been working considerably hard on Casino Royale of late and have added the Special effects section and completely copy edited it today giving some sections a complete restructure and rewrite. I now beleive it is up to FA class already - a very good encyclopedic source well written which conveys all the information on different aspects of the film. Luckily most of it were already well written but some sentencing needed restructuring and may still do a little. Please read it through when you have time and if you think it has potential I or someone should propose this can get it a bronze star as soon as we can. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" "S.P.E.C.T.R.E" 21:11, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Casino Royale FAC

[edit]

I don't know if you are busy or what but just to let you know that Casino Royale (2006 film) has undergone improvement in the last week and I have now nominated it for Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. I would very much appreciate you taking the time to review the article and state your opinion. Thankyou. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" "S.P.E.C.T.R.E" 09:33, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

THanks for taking the time to review it. I have also added a new sub section covering the detail on how the credit sequence was devised based on the original 1953 book cover -so far 6/6 in support. Hopfeully it can become my first FA involvement for a film - once the lists are created and missing films stubbed my goal then will be to work through all our high importance and mid importance film categories and make sure every article is written to at least a B and to a GA. At this stage I will consider joining the GA project ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" "S.P.E.C.T.R.E" 11:31, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Technically needed new stub-class

[edit]

Hi, because of the upgrading info showing in all stubs, even ones about awards etc, I asked PhantomS if it was possible we add an extra parameter for them. He said the simplest way is to create a new stub class (for the film template field only). It would assign the very same category with the existing stub class, i.e. Category:Stub-Class film articles. It would just be one additional line in the template, to permit us to enter, say, {{film|NF stub}} and would display just as stub class normally does, except it wouln't display the upgrading info. Do you think that's ok? Hoverfish Talk 07:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just mean that the film template can accept such a "class=NF stub" input so that it doesn't display the upgrading info. No real class actually. It will still list all articles in the normal stub category. Yes, for awards and all other articles that are not films per se. I will make a round and give this new pseudo-class to all stub articles that do not need the upgrading info. And... No, any further upgrading conditional tables will be too much for this template and the techs designing it. Sorry. Are you in agreement still? Hoverfish Talk 20:37, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another GA query

[edit]

Since your standards seem to be as high as mine (see my assault at User:IvoShandor/Notes on Golubac) or maybe even higher, I must bombard you with queries. Minus copy editing, how far off from GA is Historic district (United States), in your opinion and where is lacking? Thanks ahead of time. If you ever have similar questions lemme know. IvoShandor 13:58, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a ton. Everything is done save the state historic district comment. The local district comment you noted wasn't really related but I provided, already, example of lax state laws in Nevada and North Carolina. I have an additional example to add (Tennessee) which has very strict state laws regarding state historic districts. Will that be suffcient? I also reworded that section for clarity. Check it and let me know. Thanks again, and good luck with school (semester's about over isn't it?) IvoShandor 08:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My most recent Firefox update flags words with red underlines now, like "suffcient" in my last comment. I just have to remember to actually notice it. I am not sure if the state section is very thorough, even with the blurb about tennssee, but there really isn't a lot out there, at least I touch on it. Thanks again for your help. IvoShandor 08:29, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added note: I tried hard not to stray off into the history of the National Register of Historic Places or State Historic Preservation Offices, there is a lot of overlap but I think I sorted it all out pretty carefully? Did you think it was focused enough? IvoShandor 08:30, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have reviewed the article on Hurricane Neddy and explained why I believe the article failed GA standards. I'm sorry about the delay but my computer was disconnected mid-review. The review can be found here. JameiLei 16:30, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd appreciate another glance at it to see if it's ready — I see you're quite busy with GA-related stuff, so don't feel an obligation to. Thanks! -- drumguy8800 C T 19:40, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cross categorization issue

[edit]

Hi, User:Bearcat has started cross-categorizing Candain films by genre. So we'd better discuss about it, because it may be the next mountain to climb. It's being discussed in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films/Categorization. For me it's bedtime now. I'll join in tomorrow. Hoverfish Talk 22:23, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers

[edit]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers has started but needs some effort to get all the components set up. I have asked the main bio template protector to add all the film workgroup details into the main plate. However it may be good idea to have a seperate project banner and this could potentially become a major project ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 16:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the banner Template:Filmbio and help add all the different project categories for actors, directors, cinenmatographers, producers, editors, score composers I have tested it out for appearance and looks very good ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 11:25, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Filmimage template

[edit]

Hi, I am deeply busy with several arguments and am repairing whole categories that have been broken up. Can you please see to Template:Filmimage, which has been changed and contains now controversial instructions. I have used it in hundreds if not thousands of film articles and now it looks like it doesn't apply to any of them. I just can't handle one more set of arguments at this point. Thanks. Hoverfish Talk 08:28, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The point is it doesn't request any more posters, DVD and video covers, but directors, actors and I don't remember what else. So in all the film articles without images, what are we encouraging? To me it looks like the template was taken over by WP Bio. Hoverfish Talk 17:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All of the concerns you posted for the on hold have been addressed. Check it out at your leisure. IvoShandor 04:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review. And as a note, I failed a couple GA noms that were obvious quick fails and recent additions as well as did a full week long review on another which I just passed, despite a couple of minor outstanding issues. : ) Backlog be gone, damn it! IvoShandor 07:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I figured. And that message is a good idea, perhaps I will start adding it to my reviews, If interested, when I do my reviews I usually use these two groovy pages I set up, one is a tweek of GA template I did, and I use it as such, the other, I don't how to make it an easily usable template so I copy and paste it. They really help me organize reviews per the criteria, and I am not suggesting your reviews aren't totally awesome but I thought it might help.
See:

IvoShandor

Good luck on ye tests sire! Maybe if you have time after that, you could do a peer review for me? I will return the favor, of course, with an article of your choice. My current peer review is at National Register of Historic Places, if you do it, note the comments in the first review and try not to overlap, as I am addressing those issues. Of course, you don't have to do anything, your help has been immense as is, and I do greatly appreciate it. The above article will probably skip GA once its done and go straight to FAC, FYI. On Griffeth

[edit]

In its present form, I think it would fail, because all of the real article content is in one section, so I think it would be hard to defend the existance of a lead. However, except for an ambiguous "his big break...." type statement and several sentences which could probably be worded slightly more neutrally, if this article was logically divided up with headlines into about 3 sections or so, it might still be a GA. I am currently going through Canadian documentaries adding the primary cats. One more spot where your assistance may be of big help. See Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 April 12#Comedy films by actor. I have some doubts: some are not exactly "actor" categories, but series or character ones. Hoverfish Talk 06:14, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leslie Nielsen

[edit]

First, thanks for the kind words and the welcome back to Wikipedia.

Second, excellent work with the Leslie Nielsen article. I had put a lot of work into the article about a year ago with the intention of turning it into a Featured Article. After nominating it for GA, I sort of drifted away from Wikipedia and never finished the article as I wanted.

Your work on the article is very good, and is exactly as I hoped the article would progress. I appreciate the dedication into making the article a quality addition, and I hope it succeeds at becoming a GA.

All the best.

Film promotion

[edit]

Hey I too like Leslie Nielsen -he is one of favorite comic actors. I added the image to Frank Drebin!!.

In case you didn't know WIkiProject James Bond is off and running well too (I didn't propose it but helped set it up). We're still awaiting casino royale FA promotion but in the mean time I have considerably improved The Man with the Golden Gun (film). As you are part of the GA club and films could you help with the referencing to make it at least a GA?. I am also trying with a number of others to promote The Maltese Falcon which you already know I have worked extensively. These two articles clearly have the potential. Also thanks for helping with actor and filmmaker tagging - its starting very well.

I'm just wondering why you haven't responded to me for weeks? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 13:39, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

THanks Nehrams. Oh wow your're going to be in for some fun with those school papers!!! I should treat yourself with the Bond dvd box set afterwards as a reward!!! I didn't even stop to think that you might not have even seen the film!!! Some of the Roger Moore films from 1973 -1985 were a bit silly but every film has its moments. Incidentally Man with the Golden Gun was the last of all the Bond films I ever saw first back when I was about 7 or 8 I think. Its kind of a tradition in the UK for the father to get his son hooked on Bond!!! Good luck anyway and all the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 10:00, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
