I was part of the Arctic Wikiproject for a time, and even designed a variant of the invitation you sent me. Inuit-related topics are also of interest to me, but I have withdrawn (officially, at least) from all wikiprojects- WP:WPBIO, WP:WPVA, WP:POETRY, etc. It really doesn't mean much to have a little bumper sticker on your user page, anyway, and I don't want anyone seeking me out, or any obligations. The talk pages are still on my watchlist, though, and I'll make sure that Wikiproject Arctic's is too. Cheers, Lithoderm 04:30, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Wade Regehr article
You did a great job on the Regehr article. I will let your excellent work soak in and then have another read to see if there is anything more that I could add, (although I doubt it).
You are right, it seems that our little Shaunavon produces some pretty neat people!

For heaven's sake: you are absolutely right. McLennon's article in the Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan states that it was indeed temporarily there, southwest of the future site of the town from 1854 through 1864. I wonder where, precisely. Doubtless merely a popular post stockade and a small building or two inside of which nothing remains; presumably somewhere around St Joseph's Colony. I've added the detail and a citation. assorted topics Amazona01
Hi SriMesh,
I noticed that the Arnold Tremere article was placed into the sandbox again. Am I to interpret that the material from the original article that has disappeared was not helpful and should remain deleted? I can see the intentions of imposing structure, which I find enormously helpful but, I am not sure exactly what this type of action means. I can fill in many of the blanks over time. Is there a reference page where this editor made some comments for the rewrite so that I might understand where they are coming from? While I am new to this, it does feel sometimes that certain editing comes from a rather personal and subjective position (i.e. comments/corrections made on Campolina that were in fact not accurate). I am too inexperienced in this process to know how to counter some of these heavy handed tactics. I am feeling rather lucky to have landed in your pile of "newbies to help ;-)
In re-reading some of your notes for pointers I noticed that I had missed an earlier posting where you asked if I had been to Brazil. I am sorry for the delay in my response it was just an oversight as that note fell within earlier correspondance. Anyhow, the answer is yes, I go to Brazil quite often and interact closely with the horse community and many judges in that community. I have not been to see the waterfalls but hear that when the Queen visited these falls she commented, "oh, poor Niagra".
Thanks again for all your tips! I am sure I'll be on your talk page again soon.
Cheers, --Amazona01 (talk) 20:03, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
last thoughts
I guess the roadblock that I am facing in general is that much of the information that I accept as real is not linked to any internet source. For example, the most interesting info that I added to the O'Keeffe page was from a hard copy biography that I read several years ago, but was info that stuck. I am trying to locate that book now and will cite it correctly once I find it.
- I had this happen with one of my early articles as well. I had plunked the reference down in references rather than inline citations like a school paper. Then folks wrote to me saying to make it inline citation and I had to re-find the book. etc etc...
With respect to information coming from Brazil in general (see the parallel criticisms of Fila - Brazilian mastiff) it is just hard to find anything documented because of the culture. If one looks at the authorities on the Campolina breed on You Tube - there is a rather didactic series on this horse) you will find that the translation is full of terms like "good head, good conformation, good quality". Brazil is a nation where there a HUGE literacy problem which slows the communication of empirical data on things like breed standard etc. but the knowlege is real given that similar types of animals are always judged as the winner. Another example of a challenge I received was that dark hair on a horse is bleached from black to brown or silver to tan. This is a reality, it will repeat itself every time a dark horse is left out and therefore is fact, not opinion. I, however, am 100% certain that this phenomenon will never be formally documented in an internet article unless I write it, post it to create a bit of a circular reference that has no more validity than when I started.
- The writing of your own article won't be considered verifiable. So leave the article as is. There may be with a number of editors popping about here and there, someone who will know of a reference, and fix up the facts as need be. The notion of wikipedia started out as...wikipedia basics... and wikipedia is not....In the beginnings teachers would not allow students to use wikipedia as a reference for their essays and reports... and now because of the 5 wikipedia tenents, teachers are asking students to write their reports for wikipedia to allow the students to also learn these 5 tenents... see classrooms and students which shows to me anyways, that wikipedia has come a lo--o-o-o-ng ways since its beginnings.
I find that there are similar roadblocks in place for the Tremere article. I know he was on a variety of t.v. programs, made the news etc. albeit, pre-internet. I have contacted the secretary at CIGI but finding sources for these historical events has not been easy.
- Yes some articles fall into place easier than others. It is good to have the citation templates which help to show bibliographies for other sources, and it is good that more and more books are getting transcribed (e-books) such as at googlebooks and Project Gutenberg
Regehr is younger and science is an internet friendly profession.
- Dr. Regehr had more about him online in certain respects, universities have really come online, whic I also think helped in his case.
All this is to say that I am concerned that Wikipedia may be inadvertently biased to internetipedia. Sorry for the rambling, I am hoping that there are solutions in here somewhere. In the meantime, I will keep posting and hopefully someone in the know can add citations here and there.
- I am glad to hear you going to keep plugging away at wikipedia. You have lots to offer, I can see, it just takes a while to see all the different faces and facets of wikipedia and its editors. Some folks just edit, create and add to articles, which is mainly what I do. Some folks just pop onto wikipedia to take care of vandalism, and erase the edits which are more like graffiti. And there are the admininistrators who try to keep things rolling etc etc.
Thanks again for all your exchanges. I have to agree, submission rules at Wikipedia do at times feel rather hidden. It was very helpful to read your very well put insight on this subject.
- Good luck with everything!!!
Best wishes, --Amazona01 (talk) 20:29, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

- Thank you for shortening the hook. User:Mgm may discuss his layman's language issue, but I will note that changing "calcium" to "Ca2+" is a step in the opposite direction. Art LaPella (talk) 01:02, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey SriMesh, I've also looked at your nomination of Axon terminal, and suggested a different hook; it would be helpful if you could review it to make sure I haven't interpreted your sources incorrectly or anything. Thanks, —Politizer talk/contribs 01:24, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
hook
Hi SriMesh, Had you considered the hook "synaptic plasticity"? Regehr certainly does show a strong interest in the calcium handling in synaptics but it is in the context of this greater phenomena poised to explain learning and memory related changes in the brain. Please disregard if you have already had a chance to resolve this issue.--Amazona01 (talk) 22:44, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Perfectly fine. Take your time- I'm in no rush. Just leave me a note when you are done. Thanks for doing this. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 01:51, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Srimesh, It appears as if you have resolved your hook issue. If you enjoyed putting together the article on Regehr, you may find Mike Merzenich interesting as well. Treaty 4
"This treaty is also called the "Qu'appelle Treaty," as its first signings were conducted at Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan on September 15, 1874." Can this be correct? Given that Qu'Appelle didn't exist in 1874 it seems far more likely that the reference is not to Qu'Appelle but to Fort Qu'Appelle, which did. Many people are for perhaps increasingly forgiveable reasons quite unaware of the existence of Qu'Appelle; people from the Yorkton-Melville area driving to Regina invariably refer to stopping in "Qu'Appelle" for coffee en route; they of course mean the Fort. I suspect that the "See also"s in both the Qu'Appelle and Treaty 4 articles should be removed, and for that matter the Treaty 4 article corrected.Masalai (talk) 05:45, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Qu'Appelle sports and recreation
Hello again. I was just in the process of copying and pasting the distance indications in this section to change the spellings from US to international usage when it occurred to me that it focuses on Katepwa as a nearby recreational area. Actually that would be relevant to Indian Head rather than Qu'Appelle. B-Say-Tah Point on Echo Lake and Echo Valley Provincial Park on Pasqua Lake are much closer and many Qu'Appelle people (including residents of farms in Qu'Appelle's hinterland) had (may still have) summer cottages there or would drive there on weekends. I'm actually not certain any of this is particularly relevant really, but if we mention Katepwa then we ought also to mention B-Say-Tah and Echo Valley Provincial Park, eh? Kind regards. Masalai (talk) 05:41, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh. Forgive me. What am I saying? The section does mention the latter! Masalai (talk) 05:46, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- No, I'm not using the conversion template; what I'm doing is changing the spellings in the conversion template from US to international usage! Masalai (talk) 05:48, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ah really! Thanks. I'll see if I can figure it out: maybe you could check again in a while; if it hasn't been changed it means I gave up in despair. Meanwhile, I've added a photo of B-Say-Tah Point on Echo Lake (a different one -- looking north rather than south) than the one I put in the article on the Qu'Appelle Valley. And happy new year to you too. We didn't get much sleep last night down here in Australia what with friends in Canada, England, Malaysia, India and Pakistan taking it into their heads to phone and wish us the same but omitting to remember that there is a significant time difference! None of them is by any means stupid so we assume that they got carried away with their celebrations. Masalai (talk) 05:59, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Incidentally, where did you find or how did you calculate the distances from Qu'Appelle you've inserted in this section? I have no idea what the precise distance is from the town to B-Say-Tah. Masalai (talk) 06:19, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

talk page management
Hi SriMesh,
Best wishes for 2009! I noticed on my talk page that all my messages were gone. In principle this is totally fine for me but I am wondering how it happened? Is this standard? I had a terrible round with the Vundo virus on my PC and while, I don't think that the two events would be connected, I am hoping to confirm that they are not. Have you ever seen this kind of thing? Thanks in advance for any advice or insights. Cheers,--Amazona01 (talk) 02:42, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
messages back
Hi SriMesh, Thanks for your quick response. All my messages are in fact now back for me too. I deleted one of your old messages to see if it was related to space (it wasn't) and when I scrolled down everything was back. Most peculiar! Thanks again, --Amazona01 (talk) 03:01, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Merzenich GREAT JOB!
Hi, Just took at quick peak at your article and it is excellent. I could not have written about him in such an unbiased way, you are to be commended for sure. I'm out of WIKI for tonight but, I am sure we'll be in contact again. Thanks again for all the advice and kind words regarding 2009. Cheers,--Amazona01 (talk) 03:14, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, excellent work. Have you read The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge? I'm guessing you have since you reference it in your Merzenich article. An amazing book, huh? I'm about to use it to add a little bio info on Merzenich in the Wiki article for "Is Google Making Us Stupid?".Manhattan Samurai (talk) 19:44, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Tremere
Hi, I actually got the information from the family history book. You raise a good point that the local history book would be a better reference. I will send a note off and add it when the info comes! Hope you had a great weekend. Best,--Amazona01 (talk) 15:59, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
more questions
Hi SriMesh, I have contacted some additional people for more complete information on the Arnold Tremere biography. I also took another look at the class B article example that you provided me earlier in this process. I noticed that this article has VERY few references and a lot of personal information. I could add quite a bit more personal information but don't really have a citation to back up this material for example, when Arnold and Marcella were married or what his family is doing, the loss of his son-in-law etc. As I mentioned before, I have contacted Mona, a secretary at the Grains Insitute for additional details and hopefully something to document in terms of t.v. appearances, specific talks and contributions etc. I am afraid that some of these references however, might be meeting minutes. Can one even use this type of material as a citation? I would think not... Finally, I know that he lectured at U of S, U of M and I think Guelph and possibly U of T. I could quote someone on this information but, I am not sure what copyrighted documentation would exist on this. Look forward to any advice you may have. Cheers--Amazona01 (talk) 16:43, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Tremere does not fit into this category: biography of living persons. so I think the above citations would be good. For a living person, the facts should be published in a secondary source, ie the local history book, or TB show, or public appearance, and then it is known, that the person would be OK with it on wikipedia as well. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 23:04, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
thank you
Thanks for the description above; I find your explanations of the logic behind inclusions and structure very helpful. The *.pdf you sent was also fantastic! I have not had much cause to use this interview type of citation (ever) so just reading about it was quite interesting. Also, sorry to impose once again but, I don't seem to be very effective in navigating for Help in Wikipedia. I was trying to find some kind of style guide for the biography of a non-living person akin to the link you sent for living persons. I thought that I ended up on this page with your help once before so, my request is more for general advice on navigating for help . I have tried to "learn to be a contributor" link and other similar links to no avail. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Best,--Amazona01 (talk) 23:12, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

North Sea
Thanks for the note. I don't think you should insert a lot of quotations into refs that you wouldn't insert into the text - they just'd just bloat the page, and I think the great majority of readers ignore refs. In any case I'll have to check the actual refs, it's the curse of the reviewer. --Philcha (talk) 09:30, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hello SriMesh, I like your quotations and they are helpful to understand the context of the quotation. They are also a good base to start new articles in the future. Dr. M LeBoldus
Hi SriMesh,
Hope all is well with you! I recently remembered a notable person from SK but am struggling with deciding how far to pursue this. The fellow in question is Dr. Martin LeBoldus. There is a high school named after him and there are a couple of descriptions of committees etc. He has participated in. I do not have enough to do a full write-up and I am not sure he warrants it. How do you decide when to cut your losses. I thought of adding his name to the Regina page but, this page has not "notable people" category. Suggestions? Thanks in advance,--Amazona01 (talk) 18:11, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

In the case of curlews, that may be because one of the refs seems to be mislinked - the link goes to a buffalo source. Ursula Franklin
Hi I'd like to nominate the article on Ursula Franklin, recently named a Feature Article, for inclusion as a biography on the Canada Portal, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Bwark (talk) 00:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Your GANs
I suppose that this is just a "heads up" - the 2 articles you added to GAN need a history of the road - this is extremely important. I can't review it (due to my rant at WT:USRD) but any reviewer is not likely to pass the article without a history. Because of this there is a good chance that the 2 GANs will not pass in time to make the Sunday deadline. --Rschen7754 (T C) 02:24, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for your note. Have addressed the history section on both articles and will flesh out such some more...Also replied at your talk page. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 06:37, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

{{help me}} This error Cite error: "<ref> tags exist, but no <references/> tag was found" at the bottom of the page won't go away, and I have looked up and down at the references. If someone can see what I am missing it would be awesome for Saskatchewan Highway 2 Thank you SriMesh | talk 02:37, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Seems fine to me. Have you tried purging? –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:29, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

messed up Campolina page
Hi SriMesh,
I am in desperate need of advice. I uploaded an image of a young horse and everything went well. I unfortunately became ambitious and uploaded a number of other images to show the colours and head conformation. I have completely messed up the page. None of the images are apparent and I have somehow merged/deleted the references. I tried to get them back but I am in over my head! Is there a ref person for this type of mistake? Is there a troubleshooting page I should be looking at??
Thanks as always for any and all advice. Hope the cold is better. Best wishes,--Amazona01 (talk) 02:58, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
You have won Round 1 of the USRD-CRWP WikiCup!
Congratulations! You have been declared a winner of Round 1. This is just to let you know that Round 2 will be starting Sunday night. Please note the point value changes for Round 2 as well. --Rschen7754 (T C) 08:55, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
thank you!!
The page looks great! I actually have uploaded the images to wikicommons but I guess i did something wrong. I am not going to touch it now though as I am really happy with the current layout.

HBC factory at Qu'Appelle
For heaven's sake: you are absolutely right. McLennon's article in the Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan states that it was indeed temporarily there, southwest of the future site of the town from 1854 through 1864. I wonder where, precisely. Doubtless merely a poplar-post stockade and a small building or two inside of which nothing remains; presumably somewhere around St Joseph's Colony. I've added the detail and a citation. Masalai (talk) 03:59, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- Possibly. It seems unlikely, though, given that the HBC post was gone by 1864 and the town wasn't established till 1882. I should think it more likely that any record of the HBC post on that site would be in the HBC archives in Winnipeg. Masalai (talk) 06:34, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
It's a real breed. The reference site does mention it (at the very bottom of the page), and I found another description of it in a breed book that I have. I added the book reference information to the bottom of the article - I don't have time to drop the information in right now, but I'll try to get to it at some point this week. Thanks for the heads up. Dana boomer (talk) 12:21, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
thanks and Canadian rustic
Hi SriMesh,
Thanks once again for the rescue. It NEVER occurred to me that the extension would be case sensitive, good catch!!
I have only heard of the Canadian rustic breed but the URL is considered to be a pretty decent reference in the horse world. I will try to dig up a few more details to give this stub a little staying power.
Best wishes as always, --Amazona01 (talk) 00:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

GA Review of New Jersey Rotue 90 and Atlantic City-Brigantine Connector
I have gone back and made changes to the two Good Article Nominees you reviewed, New Jersey Route 90 and Atlantic City-Brigantine Connector. One concern I have with both articles is how to use Template:Inflation for money. I am a little confused of its use in converting historical dollars to today's dollars and that it would distort the values provided back when the construction of the roads occured. Dough4872 (talk) 00:44, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- I have added Template:Inflation to both articles, indicating the amount it cost then and the amount it cost today. Dough4872 (talk) 01:46, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Your submission of Northern Woods and Water Route at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. thank you once again Arnold Tremere
Dear SriMesh, Thank you once again for stepping in and helping out with the image resize and placement and reformatting. I certainly did follow up with permissions for the Wikicommons image. Hope you are well.

DYK for Pinkie Road
--Dravecky (talk) 07:40, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Please see the notes I have made above - while this is largely Dough4872's fault, it is your responsibility to make sure that your GAN meets basic prose and WP:MOS guidelines. GAN is not a checklist for GA. If I see more nominations with these serious problems, this will result in a deduction of points. --Rschen7754 (T C) 22:54, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

pic disaster
Hi SriMesh,
Hope you are well. I had another image fiasco and I am hoping that you can help. I posted a pic of the Canadian Rustic Pony donated from Rare Breeds Canada. I converted it to a *.pdf which was the only format I could get Wikicommons to accept. I tried to put it onto the page but it was deleted. I really think that this is a lovely addition to this page and perhaps a historically important one as this breed is apparently diminishing. Advice??
Best, --Amazona01 (talk) 00:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Lifesaver
Thank you SOOO much!! for fixing my mess. I am not sure if your question was rhetorical or not, but in the case of the rustic pony, I think that the breeders themselves became extinct. This breed was one fellow's life goal... it seems. Hope all is well with you. Thanks again and best wishes, --Amazona01 (talk) 05:21, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi Julia. You probably didn't know this, but I found some uncredited photos of yours (and mine) on a Saskatoon commercial real estate web site. They were using your photo of RUH. I e-mailed them and asked them to include a photo credit, which they have now done. You can see them here: J.B. Re: Saskatchewan Highway Shield template
Don't worry about crediting.
These templates should be moved out of userspace though, I only made it there as a draft. So please move User:Pomte/Template:SK road shield to Template:SK road shield or any other name you see fit, and same with the other template.
In the tiny version, is it just me or is the number too big compared to the shield? –Pomte 07:55, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from User:AlexNewArtBot/CanadaRoadsSearchResult. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Please do not delete content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to User:AlexNewArtBot/CanadaRoadsSearchResult/archive1, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. Ronhjones (talk) 01:39, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Notes about Robot searches
- Hello there Sorry about not leaving a note on the edit summary about removing some content. The robot searches for Canadian road articles, and a person must manually remove false positives. The robot works fairly well, however some articles do get added to the list which are not about Canadian roads, or are Canadian articles not about roads. I added a note to the talk page, if I miss another edit summary. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 01:31, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, now I understand. As your user name does not match the user talk page name that was edited, Vandal Fighter highlights it as a possible vandal - even more so with a negative change of page size, and no edit summary. Never mind, I guess there is no perfect system. Ronhjones (talk) 20:19, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Thankyou
Thank you for the gracious welcome.
I am excited to start assisting with the Sask Project.--Kukamunga13 (talk) 05:02, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Location sections
I saw 2 location sections you made. There are 2 problems with them, one of them of technical nature.
- Since they include a reference they have to be placed before the references section
- There is no need to mention the geographic coordinates separately since you already use the geolinks template
Please see my edit to City Park, Saskatoon for an example.
I would be very happy if you would implement these 2 things in your future edits, because you gave us (me and other wikignomes quite a lot of work. Debresser (talk) 15:27, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hello there I replied on your talk page. I have't made a location article for awhile, if you could clarify to what you are referring it would be appreciated, as I am lost. I haven't added geographic coordinates either for awhile, as I have done other tasks. So I am confused.SriMesh | talk 16:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi. It was you, but definitely not recently. You created the article City Park, Saskatoon for example on February 15, 2007, see here, including the double mention of geographic coordinates I mentioned. Then on February 24, 2007 you moved up the references section, see here, which caused a broken reference warning, see there also.
I'm not waving a warning finger at you, just pointing it out to you, so that you may take it into account in the future. Debresser (talk) 00:00, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

In The News DYKs
I noticed that you've nominated a few articles recently for DYK. Most of them do not qualify for DYK because they recently appeared on In The News. DYK rules state that Articles that have appeared on the main page's In the News section are not eligible. Shubinator (talk) 04:36, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- No worries. It would be good if you could remove the ineligible nominations from T:TDYK, as they're kind of cluttering the page. Shubinator (talk) 04:41, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
