If there is a problem

Thank you for editing: Wikipedia: BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. Very sorry, I'm not a native speaker. Please correct if there is a problem.

I found it while I translated this into Japanese version. In Wikipedia:BOLD,_revert,_discuss_cycle(13:58, 14 July 2007):

  • Original: The easiest way to break this cycle is to be uncivil.
  • Current: The easiest way to intensify this cycle and make it unbreakable is to be uncivil.

Problem with Azerbaijan National Aerospace Agency and Azercosmos

Hello, friend. When we search for Azercosmos on wikipedia, it redirects us to Azerbaijan National Aerospace Agency. These are different ones. Azercosmos is national satellite operator of Azerbaijan when Azerbaijan National Aerospace Agency is just and agency under the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan. I tried to change it but wikipedia intimidated me with blocking my account. Furthermore, the information at the page of Azerbaijan National Aerospace Agencyhas serious mistakes. The real information of Azercosmos is at https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=252372600 , http://www.sky-brokers.com/home/services/satellite-operators/azercosmos2 , https://azercosmos.az/about-us-azercosmos , https://www.azernews.az/business/103016.html ZahraGasim (talk) 17:24, 5 February 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ZahraGasim (talkcontribs) 16:47, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

@ZahraGasim: Thank you for finally answering. Yes, it does seem that there are two entities, and now we can work to present that the right way. When you leave someone a message, please put it at the bottom of the page, and sign it like this: "~~~~". (You should also keep a conversation where it started. In this case, that's your own talk page: User talk:ZahraGasim.) There is nothing wrong with trying to fix mistakes – the problem was that you refused to answer questions, and you tried to sneak around the rules. The most important part of the wiki is that we work together: if you can't work together with others, you won't get anywhere. —swpbT go beyond 19:52, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

@Swpb: Thank you very much for your help. I am just a new here and only yesterday have learned how to answer the questions and immediately answered to yours. Also, I would like to thank you for correcting the redirection issue and for creation the wiki page for Azercosmos. I will elaborate on it. Thank you once more. Azercosmos Key people

Dear friend, the reason why I try to delete Mr. Troy Booher (September, 2015) and Mr. Wesley Wong (December, 2015) from the "key people" part is that they do not work at Azercosmos anymore. Both left the company in 2015. Management here you can find the current heads of departments. Thank you for your time — Preceding unsigned comment added by ZahraGasim (talkcontribs) 13:01, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

To editor ZahraGasim: Ok. Again, put your new messages at the bottom of the page, and sign them. —swpbT go beyond 13:50, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Dear friend, I have changed many outsourced information at the mentioned pages. The column to show/write the reason did not appear that is why I decided to write you, since you were looking through it before. All the references and citations are put. Thank you for your time. ZahraGasim (talk) 13:13, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

To editor ZahraGasim: The box to leave an edit summary always appears directly below the main editing window, above the "Publish changes" button. I undid several of your changes, because:
  1. We cannot accept text that was published by someone else (WP:COPYVIO), or that promotes or advertises for the subject (WP:NPOV).
  2. We don't generally remove accurate statements and sources without a good reason. Although Azercosmos' predictions of a second launch in 2014-2015 proved to be too optimistic, they still should be mentioned.
  3. We only link terms the first time they appear in the article (MOS:BUILD), and we don't link to pages that don't exist and aren't likely to be added (Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking#Red_links).

To editor Swpb:

Dear friend, With regards to Azercosmos

At the "services" part, as you see there "citation needed". Could you, please, let me put the information, then you check?

With regard to Azerspace-1

Azersat was the proposed name for the Azerspace; however, organization decide it be Azerspace-1, not Azersat At the "follow-on activities" part The information there is outdated. There are new interviews where Chairman informs that the satellite will be launched in mid of 2018 Could you, please, update information, of course, add the references?

Thanks in advance and for all your help

ZahraGasim (talk) 07:14, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

I don't think you understand the problems, so I can't do what you're asking:
  1. In "Services", the problem is not that the text you want is false or not sourced, but that 1) it reads like an advertisement, and 2) I don't think you wrote it. Adding a reference will not fix those problems.
  2. If "Azersat" is wrong, fair enough; I've taken it out. But the information in "follow-on activities" is not outdated, for the purpose of completeness: although Azersat did not launch a satellite in 2014 or 2015, they announced plans to do so, and that alone is important information to include – it puts the new, 2018 plan in context. —swpbT go beyond 15:19, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi swpb. I noticed you've extensively contributed to a number of high-quality science articles (I initially came across Rotating locomotion in living systems. If you'd be interested in putting any through external peer review and academic publication, let me know. The WikiJournal of Science dual-publishes articles both as a stable PDF, and into Wikipedia to benefit from the rigours of formal peer review, as well as the extreme reach of the encyclopedia (e.g. The Cerebellum). Anyway, let me know if you're interested. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 05:59, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:WikiProject Old Norse requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

Giacomo Balla

Just out of curiosity, are you aware that the work of Giacomo Balla will not be in the public domain in its home country, nor in the United States, until 1 January 2029, unless published prior to 1 January 1923? I noticed a few weeks ago that you uploaded a number of works by this artist. If there exists a publication (or publications) prior to 1923 where these works were reproduced could you please let me know? I would be interested in looking at it (or them). Thanks in advance. I too have uploaded a couple of works by Balla. here for example. It was published in 1914, here. Coldcreation (talk) 17:57, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Let's start with this one: In the file summary for Woman Sewing by Giacomo Balla (1887) you wrote "Original publication: 1887". What publication was that? Please provide a link to it, or the full reference (and page number). I noticed in the summaries your "Original publication" dates always coincide with the date of execution. It would be very rare at the turn of the century that artists had their works published every year, and even rarer the year they were produced. Please provide this information so as to avoid the time consuming process of deletion of these works. Again, thanks in advance. Coldcreation (talk) 06:22, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Note, this is not just a case of an individual painting the copyright status of which is controversial or problematic, but of all the works you uploaded by Giacomo Balla (over seventy of them) none of which appear to have been published before 1923; contrary to what you claim. Coldcreation (talk) 17:04, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Would you care to comment? Coldcreation (talk) 13:16, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
If you have nothing to say about the uploads I will proceed with the process of having these works speedily deleted. Coldcreation (talk) 09:23, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Before I begin the deletion process, I will revert several of your edits that converted files originally uploaded as Non-free 2D art to PD-US-1923; such as here. That way, some of the images and corresponding articles may be salvaged. Coldcreation (talk) 14:06, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

Tags have been placed on File:Balla A Worker's Day.jpg, File:Balla Woman Sewing.jpg, File:Balla Self-Portrait.jpg, File:Balla Self Portrait 2.jpg, File:Balla Landscape.jpg, requesting that they be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 19:59, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Template:Non-diffusing listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Template:Non-diffusing. Since you had some involvement with the Template:Non-diffusing redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so.  — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  00:30, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

RonBot (talk) 17:10, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Mapshapes

About Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 167#Possibility of editable-on-wiki status maps?: I wonder whether the mapshape feature would do what you want. If memory serves, User:RolandUnger is the expert on that. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 15:54, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

I think such maps should be possible using the mapframe tag. (1) Either one can use mapshapes directly from a set of Wikidata ids or (2) generate them with a SPARQL query from Wikidata as shown at Help:Extension:Kartographer for governors of US states with their party affiliation. But only equirectangular projection can be used. --RolandUnger (talk) 16:12, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Adjacent

Re this edit, how is "adjacent" any better than "to the right"? It's still just as meaningless to people having pages read to them by assistive software per the guideline you cited. In this particular case the image is not even adjacent to the paragraph that refers to it in html so will be even more confusing in mobile view. SpinningSpark 21:20, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

The ideal solution is to label the caption and refer to the label, "Figure A" or similar. Left/right references are specifically proscribed by the MOS, so if you want to challenge that, the guideline's talk page is the place to do it. —swpbT go beyond 14:44, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
What I'm saying is use some common sense. Replacing a form of words that are only meaningful to some readers with a form that is still meaningless to the rest, and in addition confusing to the group you are trying to help is not a sensible thing to do. Actually, the MOS does not generally proscribe anything i absolute terms. Right at the top of the page it says that this "is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense..."
I disagree that "adjacent" is not an improvement, but I pointed to you an even better solution that you are free to implement. —swpbT go beyond 16:32, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

AfD nomination: Riding Rockets

Hello, I am writing to inform you that I have nominated Riding Rockets for deletion, under the criteria in WP:NOTE, specifically WP:BOOKCRIT. I have recently finished the book, and intend to expand the articles for Mike Mullane and Judy Resnik using the contents of the book. However, I do not consider the book itself significant enough to merit its own Wikipedia article. I hope to hear your thoughts on the matter at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Riding Rockets.
