Summary of Video games WikiProject open tasks:

New task force[edit]

This task force has been created to help co-ordinate work on articles relating to Valve Software, of which quite a large amount are in a terrible state at present. -- Sabre (talk) 16:54, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Roger. Will help. CWii(Talk|Contribs) 21:12, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedited the Team Fortress Classic article[edit]

I Copyedited the Team Fortress classic article. Don't Stone me if I made a mistake, it's my first wiki edit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gravelz (talkcontribs) 15:57, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The edits you made were fine, no problems. If to you the text flows naturally, makes sense and lacks any spelling or grammar problems, then all's good. -- Sabre (talk) 17:17, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Team Fortress 1[edit]

Why is it part of this task force? --Mika1h (talk) 23:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its a logical extension of the task force's scope: Valve did TFC and TF2, hiring the creators of TF1 to do it. TF is intrinsically linked to Valve, so it makes sense to add one article that is of historical importance to the company. -- Sabre (talk) 08:32, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Counter-Strike: Source[edit]

This article is desperate need of more info. This article should be FA by now. It has no gameplay or no information about the game whatsoever. Can article have a complete revamp?. --SkyWalker (talk) 05:34, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was going through the article and found very little information on the article. Three have been some readers who've commented that they want some more information about the game. I'll be willing to help putting in more information. By the way, Are cheats needed in the article?(There was a comment on that). GideonWanna talk? 07:40, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cheats meaning cheat codes or "hacking"-type cheats? Cheat codes, no. If there are any notable instances of large hacks, e.g. thousands of players banned by VAC in a small time period, controversy caused by some sort of hacking, etc, then you can feel free to include it in either "History" or "Reception". If you can't find any specific examples of hacking, feel free to just exclude it. Thanks for contributing! I've wanted to improve the article myself, but haven't gotten around to it. Glad someone else cares about the game :D --Nicereddy (talk) 07:49, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To add on to what Nicereddy, if the readers simply want to know how to find cheats and hacks, we should not include it. -- ferret (talk) 13:33, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Half-Life: Uplink (film) under discussion for deletion[edit]

The article entitled Half-Life: Uplink (film) is being considered for deletion. I understand that this article is not under this task force, and I also understand that it is an unofficial part of the Half-Life canon, and is not endorsed by Valve. However, since it is related to Half-Life, I thought it would be worth notifying this task force, as it probably has members on it who are interested in all general apsects of Half-Life. Thank you for reading. OpenSeven (talk) 00:02, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Half-Life 2 or Source engine mods?[edit]

Right now the articles/categories/lists are mixed between "Half-Life 2 mods" and "Source engine mods". "Half-Life 2 mods" was the status quo from a while ago before the mods started being for the Source engine, not just Half-Life 2. Should the remaining usage of "Half-Life 2 mods" be converted? If so should a Source engine category be created to separate Half-Life 2 articles from the mods/technologies? BJTalk 19:23, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The remaining usage of "HL2 mod" should probably be put out of commission, mods tend only to need an official Valve game powered by Source now rather than HL2 itself, thus making "HL2 mod" somewhat inaccurate. Category:Half-Life 2 mods should just be renamed as "Source mods". -- Sabre (talk) 13:28, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done BJTalk 22:58, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are Steam related things under this groups purview?[edit]

Steamworks is becoming very popular for PC games, most of the major 2010 PC titles are using it. So I feel it's about time for a list, similar to the "List of games with DirectX 11 support" style. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_using_Steamworks

the page to which this link leads has been deleted -Resolutionsmasher (talk) 22:27, 14 December 2011 (UTC)-[reply]
now that i think about it, the page was probably deleted for a good reason, I personally own steam and have viewed their catalog, it is absolutly massive. I couldn't all those games on 20 of my computers, so maybe a set of lists would be more efficient. On the parent list, have a list of all the different game manufacturing companies that Steam sells for(i.e.-E.A Games, Gearbox, Crytek, etc...) Then have each manufacturer linked to a list of games that they sell on steam. Steam provides a list of their manufacturers, so it shouldn't be too hard to do, just time consuming.-Resolutionsmasher (talk) 22:26, 15 December 2011 (UTC)-[reply]

Mods[edit]

Just a suggestion, but maybe we should cover Mods for the games as well? Example, Garrys Mod. I want to make this project my main focus so i'll definitely work on adding them to our coverage if necessary. Catch me on my talk page if you need anything. G. Fire (talk) 21:28, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If there is a framework for which mods get 'accepted' by the task force I'd say this is a good idea. Perhaps mod's that charge (such as again Garry's Mod) would be a logical benchmark.--Senor Freebie (talk) 22:41, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Exemplary mods are probably the only ones that need coverage, an easy way to tell if one is that good is to check with valve, they often aquire rights on the best mods and offer them through Steam(sometimes free, sometimes not). -Resolutionsmasher (talk) 22:05, 15 December 2011 (UTC)-[reply]

Valve Task Force Re-vitalization[edit]

Attention, all contributors to the Valve Task Force and the articles it constitutes!
I am here to announce that I will be re-vitalizing the Valve Task Force, aimed at universally improving articles constituting Valve Corporation, their employees, associates and products. This specific task force has been dormant for quite some time and with two very notable releases coming out this year, I feel like this is the appropriate time to re-stimulate the general aim of this group. For those who are not already members of the Valve Task Force, feel free to add your name to our members list and contribute to whatever articles you feel your contributions may prove beneficial for. Valve, its products and notable employees have proven to be essential to the progression of the video game industry, so I'd like to make a call of arms for this cause. DarthBotto talkcont 21:55, 08 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Defense of the Ancients[edit]

Why is Defense of the Ancients in the article list? It is NOT a valve project or game. Gmt2001 (talk) 13:29, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Because like the original Team Fortress or Counter-Strike, it is Valve's intellectual property and represents a part of a franchise owned by Valve. DarthBotto talkcont 01:35, 07 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And it is technically a Valve project... though I'm two years late with this addendum. :P DARTHBOTTO talkcont 10:49, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Valve games has been nominated for merging with Template:Valve technology. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Thank you. Vaypertrail (talk) 16:18, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Half-Life TV has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. January 1-3 2014 Updates[edit]

Hello everyone, I've gone through most Valve games and tried to improve their infoboxes, categorization, and other, more minor things. I also created a page for Half-Life: Source, seeing as I felt that it was a notable-enough title to receive it's own article. In recent months its been ported to OS X and Linux and also received various updates which included support for the Oculus Rift, HD texture packs, and various other improvements. I also made a Deathmatch section in the Valve games template and added Half-Life Source to the Valve and Half-Life templates. I hope these edits are considered helpful, as I feel that these games deserve proper Wikipedia coverage.

Updating the to-do list[edit]

I wanted to suggest, based on the Nintendo task force to-do list, an update to our to-do list which is much better organized than the previous version. Thoughts on this? The current "tasks" header would remain, but with only the "Merge" section having any content right now. We can add others like "split", "verify", "requests", etc. to the Tasks template if articles that would fit under them come up.

Suggesting a redesign[edit]

Hey everyone, I made a redesign for the Valve Task Force at my Sandbox page. I still need to add back the Guidelines, Articles, and finish up some minor things, but for the most part it's pretty much functional. The members list is there, but I've commented it out to avoid sending out a bunch of notifications to users. I'll gladly take feedback, I'm not 100% sure about the shades of orange I chose and I think there are undoubtedly more improvements to be made. I'm planning on trying to make a new logo for the Task Force as well, but that won't be for a few days.

Thoughts, User:DarthBotto, since you seem to be one of the only other frequent contributors to the project?

-Nicereddy (talk) 07:53, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I like it, as it is thematic and professional looking. You have my support, Nicereddy. DARTHBOTTO talkcont 19:57, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@DarthBotto: Excellent, thanks! I'm going to work on finishing up the articles list and improve the prose, I'll comment again once it's done and then I'll replace the current Task Force page if you approve of its final design. -Nicereddy (talk) 21:04, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@DarthBotto: Done! Prose can still be improved, but I'd consider it ready to be placed now. -Nicereddy (talk) 00:18, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The prose I can take care of, Nicereddy, but I'd say that it should be worth a whirl. Good job. DARTHBOTTO talkcont 05:06, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@DarthBotto: With that I improved the prose and placed it on the page, please feel free to suggest any improvements you can think of, or add them yourself. Can we go about getting the "Revived!" tag added on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video Games sidebar? I'd like to think this redesign would help, and I believe the articles definitely deserve it. Anyway, thanks for your cooperation :D -Nicereddy (talk) 05:28, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This redesign is super good czar  18:44, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect this talk page as part of task force cleanup[edit]

I've proposed a comprehensive cleanup of WP:VG's inactive task forces (which would include redirecting all task force talk pages, including this one), if you'll take a look czar  01:45, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I opened a discussion for merging Half-Life: Source into Half-Life (video game). See here: discussion. The1337gamer (talk) 21:53, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I opened a discussion for merging both the Valve Hammer Editor and Source SDK articles into Source (game engine). See discussion. The1337gamer (talk) 01:44, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is this place still active?[edit]

This place seems pretty dead, anyone still active around here? :/ I joined before I realized that it hadn't been active in a while, but I've still done some work on some Valve related articles. --LichWizard talk 21:05, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • There's definitely a bunch of active editors still working on maintaining Valve articles. But there isn't much discussion around here. Pretty much all video game related discussion happens at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games which gets a lot more traffic. --The1337gamer (talk) 21:37, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, cool. I'm a part of that as well, but I thought I may as well join this because I assumed it'd have a more centralized disscusion. --LichWizard talk 22:03, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deprecate this task force?[edit]
