London Buses route 245 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Metroline.
History
Route 245 began in 1962 using Routemasters, replacing the former trolleybus route 645, and it ran from North Finchley to Stanmore, via Finchley Central, Golders Green, Cricklewood, West Hendon, Colindale, Edgware, Stonegrove and Canons Park.
In 1968, the weekend service was withdrawn, replaced by the 245A.
In 1969, the route was withdrawn between Colindale and Stanmore, the Edgware to Stanmore section replaced by the revised route 251. In 1970, it was rerouted at Cricklewood via route 16 to Sudbury Town Station, and also, withdrawn between Golders Green and North Finchley.
In 1978, the route was converted to double-deck operation, and a Sunday service was introduced in 1980. In 1987, MCW Metrobuses were introduced while in 1990, just two years later, replaced by Leyland Nationals. But in 1991, the Metrobuses were reintroduced, while a year later in 1992, the route was converted to single-decker operation.
The 245 was at first based at Metroline's Cricklewood garage with RT's double deckers. The allocation was later transferred to Harrow Weald, while North Wembley gained part of the allocation in 1991, and gained the whole allocation in 1999, converting the route to low floor single deckers.
In 1993, route 245 was extended to Alperton Sainsbury's (Mon-Fri except peaks/Saturday Shopping Hours). In 1998, the 245 was extended at all times to Alperton Sainsbury's. In 1999, low floor Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer single deckers were introduced.
On 28 June 2008, First London commenced operating route 245,[1] with new Alexander Dennis Enviro200 Dart single deckers.
In September 2012, a Monday to Friday working was converted to double deck using a Volvo B9TL 10.4m / Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 double decker.
On 22 June 2013, the operation of route 245 was transferred to Metroline.
In August 2013, route 245 was converted to double deck.
