Hi. U said it was copyright infringment. I wrote that text AND i own the website too. Can you re-look or ask me first. I now remember why I hate this site. Too many people with HUGGGGGEEEEEE EGOOOOOs. FIRST try talking to me. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AStarMusicCo (talkcontribs) 22:47, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Since it's been published elsewhere on the Internet, we must treat it as copyrighted to preserve the original author's rights. We have no way of knowing who owns the material and cannot take your word for it. While the content may be donated on proof of original rights (the instructions are on your talkpage), the content is promotional in nature and would be deleted as such anyway as inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you can write a neutrally worded article sourced to third-party sources, asserting notability and strictly avoiding promotion, it may be acceptable, bearing in mind that you've declared a conflict of interest in this matter. I would suggest Labrinth as an example of a neutrally-worded, well-sourced, notable artist's article, since you must clearly be familiar with him. Acroterion (talk) 00:39, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

How do I change my username? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AStarMusicCo (talkcontribs) 21:10, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Hey, I was working on that!

Orca Books. Publishes Norah McClintock, Eric Walters, Sigmund Brouwer, is significant enough to be government supported, and specialises in books for "reluctant readers" according to their website. When I was a kid, my family had to have a "no reading at the dinner table" rule. This wasn't mentioned in the article, however, so it was deleted. I'll have a word to the editor who started the article about where they would like to go from here. --Shirt58 (talk) 03:53, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that: I was getting lost in a maze of sockpuppets tracking the user that created the article. Restored, returning to the user's issues. Acroterion (talk) 03:55, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
D'oh! Thanks! I'll mark the article under construction and see how it goes from there. Need to duck out for a few hours though.--Shirt58 (talk) 04:00, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Stout Deck

Fair enough on the aesthetic descriptions, but this is a valid design that is going through New England. Please do not delete this until you receive our evidence. I can post or send pictures tomorrow as evidence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Old ogg+shiner (talkcontribs)

I'm sure your stout deck is a fine one (isn't it a little cold out, even even if you're drinking stout?), but you'll need to provide references in major publications showing that stout decks are all the thing in New England, rather than a picture of one. Acroterion (talk) 04:38, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Great response; the answer is no when you have been shoveling snow. As of now there are no formal publications for this sort of thing. Therefore the reasoning behind adding a definition to WIKI. What is the minimal requirement that must be achieved to be published here? I have read your policy and do not find this article in any fashion to be a hoax as labeled. A hoax would indicate that is was entirely fabricated, and not that it has not been published anywhere. I believe Bigfoot has a page of it's own, and although it has many books published about it there is no indication that it is any more real than a stout deck. Maybe a more realistic reason for deletion is in order. Second question of the night; How do I become a moderator? (----)
If reason prevails here, and you do indeed see the reasoning for this very truthful and realistic post you may lucky enough to receive a detailed design drawing of your very own stout deck. (---) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Old ogg+shiner (talkcontribs) 04:53, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Bigfoot's gotten press. That's the difference, you need pre-existing PR, and not via WP, since it's a place to publish using the notice others have given the subject. I realize that the stout deck is real in a physical sense, but it's not real (not exactly a hoax per se, but I'm too lazy to make up a template for it) in a widespread, documented terminology sense. However, I personally endorse any platform that promotes the drinking of stout. It's good for you (especially if it has a railing). As an architect myself, I can see whole new markets opening up as everybody in town wants a stout deck ... As for becoming a mod, you must drink only milk and weak tea, avoiding strong drink and dark beers. That's been a severe handicap in my case, as I like stout and Irish whiskey. Happy New Year, and good luck with the snow! Acroterion (talk) 05:14, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Alright Alright, I think that I get the jist of this thing now. A) Wikipedia chooses mods on a discriminatory basis. Because I happen to be an Earl Grey guy myself I can not be endowed with the powers from the almighty. Well at least I now know. No point in carrying on unachievable dreams. B) I now understand your role as mod much better. You basically get to play St. Peter at the Pearlly Gates of Wikipedia. Just for future reference though (and this could be applied to the current situation) you could be a little more charitable in your judgements of who gets through and who is damned to an eternity of unpublished Wiki articles. C) How about kicking the original article back for revision, so that I can clean it up a bit. You know, more of a temporary stint in Wiki Purgatory where I can atone for my sins. (----)
Earl Grey? That puts you on the double-secret watchlist of potential troublemakers. I've put the stout deck material in your sandbox at User:Old ogg+shiner/sandbox. Acroterion (talk) 01:22, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
I know that my preference of Earl Grey is seen by many as a detriment to society, but it really is an illness and I am working through a program right now. Thanks for placing that back into my sandbox. Peace, Fleece and Bacon Grease! I am off to write the most upstanding article ever authored on this site. (----)

Inquiry for deletion

Hey mate,

I was recently attempting to upload my artist's Biography along with published works & saw that you had flagged it as advertising & removed it from the site, may you please explain why you have done this? I followed the outline of other artists similar to him, there seems to be no issue with their published works of their article?

Please advise, have a great holiday.

Regards,

ElectroSesh Artist Management & entertainment.

Electrosesh (talk) 01:43, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia doesn't accept promotional content, and "its safe to say one will see brilliant things from this promising new producer" or "is sure to please the connoisseurs of EDM on an international level" are clearly promotional. There was also no indication that this artist meets the notability guidelines at WP:MUSICIAN. Acroterion (talk) 01:48, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Help with a source

Hey- I have this question, waaaay back in 1918, a mag called Black Diamond, had some AWESOME industry pics of coal townsd that I know well and would look real cool here. Now hold on, thats not what the help is about. According to google, http://books.google.com/books?id=BJlaAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA152#v=onepage&q&f=false this document is in the public domain. IF I cite the document correctly, could I not also use the pics in same said doc as they are part and parcel of it?? Recall again, the pics were done by the folks at Black Diamond, a industry rag from the earl;y 20th century. As always, I will abide by your decision and suggestionCoal town guy (talk) 02:12, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Nearly everything first published before 1923 is out of copyright and fair game. Heck, much of the early Wikipedia was a copy of the 1911 Britannica. Go for it. Acroterion (talk) 02:20, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

You appear to have mistaken Wikipedia for a newspaper or an Internet forum, or simply for a prominent station from which to disparage people. Material like that quoted above is not appropriate for an encyclopedia, don't you think? We have a policy concerning the treatment of living individuals: perhaps you should read WP:BLP. Mr. Morgan's opinions may be valid and reasonable, but Wikipedia can't be their showcase. Certainly commentary in all caps like you inserted [1] [2] expressing your outrage are entirely inappropriate in an encyclopedia article. We don't commonly encounter people described as PAWNs or lines like "IN THE FACE OF WELL DESERVED INTERNATIONAL OUTCRY (NONE OF WHICH THEY HAD THE COURTESY TO ANSWER." or " ...AND TO LICK LOYALLY " (?!) in an encyclopedia. Wikipedia isn't a soapbox for your displeasure over job cuts. Acroterion (talk) 18:16, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

inappropriate tags

there is enough citation for article vishal kandukuri. where half of the reference are in telugu language which can be taken as legitimate sources according to Wikipedia rules. more over, most of telugu daily news do not hold online directory's for direct links, but citations are given to the article precisely with specific links and articles photocopys, and the link to the Deccan Chronicle reference is broken - the Wayback Machine seems to have archived the article, but the machine handling that page is currently down. Once it's up again we should add a link to the archived version of that source to the footnote.

I am concerned that the requestor seeks to point out as in a negative note. as article has been accepted few months before, article is currently in need of development. peacock tags to the article is inappropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saveeducation (talkcontribs) 23:46, 3 January 2013‎ (UTC)

upon my research, i found out that vishalkandukuri.blogspot.com is not subjects own website, it is operated by a fan group, as stated in the website copyright information, and i think it will be misleading to say citations taken from a website is subjects own website. Saveeducation (talk) 23:01, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
couple sources are from regional news papers which consist large amount of information related to subject. and i think it will be misleading to avoid such articles solemnly on assumptions i tried to convert it into english to some extent, and i think still a much more development needs to be done to achieve a good article status. Saveeducation (talk) 23:05, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
The article is poorly sourced, as was mentioned before (by you as well). The tags aren't misleading, and don't reflect on the subject of the article; indeed, correcting the problems pointed out by the tags will benefit the article and the subject. A "fansite" would be a poor reference, and such sources should not be used; whether it's a primary source or just a bad source doesn't matter; both should be avoided. While English sources are preferred, high-quality sources in other languages may be used. Acroterion (talk) 23:14, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
reference taken from vishalkandukuri.blogspot.com is just a part of information in the article. a whole bunch of information is also taken from primary sources such as "postnoon news", hydstartups", "epaper-namastetelangana news", "epaper-sakshi.com", "deccanchornicle.com", "hybiztv.com". i request , not to just focus on one or 2 secondary sources, but rather look into whole other primary sources, take other language high-quality sources into consideration is my only concern.

i am conscious that blogspot is not a reliable source, but recently direct links for few articles are broken, the wayback machine archived the articles. so the screen shots along with photocopys of those specific articles are been posted in this blogspot for reference to the article is what clearly is. Purported scans of alleged photocopies of articles are not reliable sources in the era of Photoshop. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:59, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Given the poorly-sourced and promotional material, and the presence of a number of editors on the article with a poor grasp of the particularly stringent requirements for sourcing of biographical articles, drastic cuts may be needed to bring what's left of the article into compliance with policy. Hey, regarding this IP you blocked. It seems to be a block evasion. See [3] and [4]. Widr (talk) 22:46, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Yup. Maybe we'll be able to accumulate a few data points for a rangeblock. Acroterion (talk) 22:49, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with how rangeblocks work, but you may want to consider 86.173.132.173 as well, who appears to have once been used by this person, and may be used again now that 86.182.92.241 is blocked. RedSoxFan2434 (talk) 00:12, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Return of the tribesman

Our mutual friend with the four Bavarian tribes is back: Special:Contributions/2001:718:9:1:0:0:0:5. Looks like he has discovered IPv6. It's a municipal library in Prague, so probably not worth blocking. Favonian (talk) 12:04, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

I was ready to do the AGF with 62.168.13.98, who edits from the Czech Research Institute of Crop Production, but it's looking more and more like the same person. Favonian (talk) 15:59, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Note the Czechia here [5] in an older edit. Acroterion (talk) 17:24, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Well, that pretty much clinches it. He hasn't reintroduced the tribal magic yet, buy I guess that's only a matter of time. Favonian (talk) 20:28, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Good day dude,

I just wanna ask if I could add personally this link on this from this article: http://tambay.ph/city-blogs/escalante-city-discover-barangay-dian-ay

As an "External Link" for Escalante, Negros Occidental Wiki? D4e3px (talk) 11:24, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

External links are normally used to link to encyclopedic material that substantially expands on the article content. The link you propose is to a promotional news feature, which doesn't really do that, so it wouldn't be appropriate. See WP:EL for the guidelines on external links. I notice that the article doesn't have any pictures - if you've got any images of the area that illustrate the place well, you're welcome to upload them. See my note on your talkpage: while the reference partially supports the assertion, it doesn't support it entirely, and the text included inappropriate editorializing. Derogatory or defamatory information added to biographical article must pass a high bar. Acroterion (talk) 03:13, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Consensus was quite clear on the matter some time ago, and the less said about them the better. I note that Sandy Hook Truthers are starting to appear; soon it'll be like 9/11 Truthers, sadly. Acroterion (talk) 01:48, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Ah yes...the Conspiracy Enthusiasts. Take a look at the article's Article Feedback, there's been a lot of posts about that kind of stuff for quite a while...even one post about some teacher at a Florida university who claims it's all a hoax. Shearonink (talk) 01:57, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I expect it to get worse, then there'll be demands for "balance," and then ... argh. The good thing about article feedback is that nobody takes it seriously, so it can become a kind of sump for that sort of crap. Acroterion (talk) 02:01, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Why, do kRC2 deleted, since it is a company of interest from Google Play, as many editors do not have an opportunity of creating it, then we accept, is of global interest, for developers, etc ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edgardo 111 (talkcontribs) 01:58, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for asking nicely. For the company to have an article on Wikipedia, you should concentrate on showing how the company is notable - how it's been noticed by outside sources in major media, and by whom. See the general notability guidelines and the corporate notability guidelines. It's not enough to exist, you need to show that the world at large has taken substantial notice and written about the company. Simply having products on Google Play isn't enough. Can you put the content somewhere so I can see it first? You can use UserJenny28GS/sandbox for the purpose. Note that an article by that name has been deleted three times for notability concerns and promotional content, so I am not prepared to remove protection unless those concerns have been addressed. Thank you for getting back to me so quick. I have added it to my sandbox. Jenny28GS (talk) 16:09, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately, it's the same promotion of someone who doesn't meet inclusion guidelines that was previously deleted, so the title won't be unprotected, at least not by me. You may wish to try Articles for Creation for another opinion. Acroterion (talk) 16:13, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Meridian Hill Park

Hello,

Thanks for the information. Re: "Meridian Hill Park", I'll be careful to not add an informal tone, or express opinions. The main help that I may likely need is in how to construct a footnote. I have references for the data, but I have to learn how to properly work it.

Also re this article: I've previously spoken with the writer of the original text, and we talked about my making alterations and additions. He was generally OK with it as I recall (it was some time ago. I was waiting for some corrections to appear.) The original text (well cited) had some elements that had no relation to the topic, and it was lacking in others. And some facts were not quite correct.

Best Wishes, Steve McKevitt — Preceding unsigned comment added by S.mckevitt (talkcontribs) 04:47, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm on the east coast (and a volunteer), so you were working past my bedtime. I looked at APA, and I agree that it's poorly sourced and doesn't give a good indication of notability. I assume APA and Innovative Artists are roughly comparable, and my inclination is to retain both if possible: third-party coverage is needed in both cases (I assume there's coverage in Variety, for instance?) to make them fully compliant. Please remember that the fact that other stuff exists at a less-than-optimal level doesn't excuse other comparable content from complying with sourcing and notability requirements. APA has a certain amount of tenure, and appears to have been a bit spammy in the past - it's been pruned way back and has probably suffered from that. As for the material in your sandbox, it will definitely need third-party references: as I noted, Variety would be a good source, major newspapers, etc. Acroterion (talk) 13:13, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Acroterion, I apparently do need you. Someone has requested it for speedy deletion again. I cited three references. Can you prevent it from happening. DavidCitron (talk) 03:14, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

If you get a chance, please also fix the cut and paste move since DavidCitron is not the only editor of the sandbox version. Thanks! VQuakr (talk) 04:07, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I've merged the history to the pre-userfied state, minus the original copyvio. As I've explained on DavidCitron's user talk,. the referencing needs to be improved, but I think there's enough assertion of notability that it's not speedy-deletable: obviously you agree. May I use one of your photos in a timeline?

Hello Acroterion,

MY name is Jeff Jensen, Creative Design Manager with Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, a 501(c)(3) non-profit in the US. I am working on our 2012 annual report which we distribute for free to a few thousand of our donors and post on our website, www.LFSneb.org. Part of that annual report includes a timeline of our history along with various historical events or other items of significance. One event I would like to illustrate is the introduction of the microwave oven. I was wondering if you would permit use of your photo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:NS_Savannah_microwave_oven_MD8.jpg in this publication. If so, what kind of attribution/credit would you like to accompany that photo?

If you would, please respond to my email addresses if you can - jjensen@lfsneb.org and jthjensen@cox.net. Otherwise I will check back here.

Thanks very much for your time and consideration! Jeff

Hi, I didn't "choose to edit" as an IP. I just didn't log in because I don't feel like. I have approximately 10 different accounts, 5 of which are blocked for good. FYI, 184.163.147.52 (talk) 05:53, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Ah ha, abusing multiple accounts. Hop n hop (on the arctic ice) 06:02, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Artwork destroyed in the September 11 attacks, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://biblioklept.org/tag/list-of-artworks-destroyed-in-911-attacks/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. Why did you delete this? The site it was supposedly copied from says "via wikipedia". Ryan Vesey 17:14, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
I eventually figured that out, and then linked to the WP source, Lost artworks, in a "see also" hatnote, though the syntax is giving me trouble. Acroterion (talk) 17:16, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
I fixed it, that lost artworks article is interesting, but it's not the best presentation method for an article with that many listed items. I might see if there's someone willing to turn it into a table. Ryan Vesey 17:24, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I was overthinking the syntax. I agree that it's not the best presentation, and I think with a little work it could be an appropriate daughter article for both the 9/11 article and the lost artworks article. In any case, it's not making the enormous 9/11 article bigger. Acroterion (talk) 17:26, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

The old Imperial Palace in Vegas is to be redone as something else. The owner (an odd duck) got his money and sold off his collection of old cars. I see: I'll take a look through his edits to see if the cites pan out. Acroterion (talk) 17:43, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
He lifted the material straight from Roger Norton's Lincoln Assassination website and no, the material does not really pan out since the lifted material is referring to the undertakers' actions. It's sad...If this editor would just stop chasing this 'Lincoln's last smile' chimera and do some actual editing I have no doubt they would be able to make some really useful contributions around the encyclopedia. Shearonink (talk) 18:05, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Copyright violations? Acroterion (talk) 18:24, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Look in the edit history of my talk page. The material that I removed from casual view is lifted straight from Norton's website without any attribution/acknowledgement, plus the material itself appears to be Norton's synthesis from multiple sources with no direct citations. Shearonink (talk) 18:35, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Ah, yes. We'll see if he keeps his promise. The going-down-with-the-ship material has a lot of personal analysis built into it. Acroterion (talk) 19:01, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi both, sorry to interrupt this, but I've noticed a lot of edits from the same IP, which seem to have similarities across other IPs in the range 92.15.xxx.xxx. Obviously a fair range, but a lot of their contribs are to similar articles. Also, the way they respond to advice and corrections is kind of similar... I had a tiresome interchange with one of the IPs last year that I eventually discounted as timewasting and I felt my message wasn't getting through; it looks like each IP makes the same "mistakes" (particularly re: sourcing). Very little that can be done, I guess, apart from recommend they create an account, but I thought it worth mentioning to someone that a pattern has emerged. Cheers, onebravemonkey 14:12, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

That's the same person. I had a rangeblock in place for two months to deal with their increasingly disruptive edits, and will probably have to reinstate it, since they don't seem to be able to conform to this site's rules. Acroterion (talk) 14:17, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
Yep, I assumed it was but wanted to exercise caution (as much as is humanly possible). Good idea on the rangeblock; I'll keep an eye out. onebravemonkey 14:22, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Challenger

Hard to believe that was 27 years ago...I'll add that excellent image to the article later.--MONGO 21:09, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Strange as it is, I just ran across that image in some scans of slides on Saturday night, cleaned it up and uploaded it. I'd forgotten the precise date of its loss until I saw a mention today. It was on its way out to the pad on the crawler when I was on a tour of KSC in '85. Acroterion (talk) 21:42, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Added image to Space Shuttle Challenger...I might switch where I put the image with the two at the bottom if I can figure out that wiki-markup that current integrates the lower images and that table. I know newbies must find some of these tables and other things somewhat complex.--MONGO 15:13, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Need a little help fixing some Talk page archives

Greetings,

After enabling the archive search option in the {{Talk header}} template at Talk:Collapse of the World Trade Center, I noticed that the names of the archive sub-pages are missing a space before the archive number (e.g., /archive2 should be /archive 2). If I'm not mistaken this prevents auto-archiving and the proper function of some templates. Would you mind moving the archive pages to the proper locations or point me to the appropriate page for making such a request? Thanks. — ArtifexMayhem (talk) 18:42, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
I can move them, but don't know enough about the archive bot's configuration to know if it'll do the right thing for Archive 14. Any idea? Acroterion (talk) 20:43, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Currently there are no bot setting on the page (I think it barf on the page names). We should be able to set it up after the move. — ArtifexMayhem (talk) 21:46, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

BLP PROD

I was under the impression that BLP PROD applied everywhere, but when I added it to User:Bomarc/Morella Addams, it said it should only be used on articles. Should I take it to MfD, wait a few days and take it to MfD, ignore it because it's in the userspace and not indexed? Ryan Vesey 19:31, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

BLP applies everywhere, but I'd agree that BLPPROD is only for articles. The article clearly fails articles space standards, and shouldn't exist indefinitely in userspace, but I don't think it quite crosses into BLP deletion territory there. MfD would be the place to go, perhaps after a short wait. After all, as you note, it's not indexed. The author is too peeved to listen to us right now, so further discussion's a waste of time. Allegedly

With all due respect, Oswald was NEVER convicted, only accused, of killing Kennedy and Tippit. Therefore, the paragraph is highly libelous. If you do not want "Allegedly", than I suggest more accurate wording.

No, it's not: it reflects the consensus of mainstream academic sources, and you can't libel the dead. Please stop rewriting the article to suit your opinions. Acroterion (talk) 17:23, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

In that case, I'll refer you to one of my all-time favorite movie quotes:

Bien de Interes Cultural

Hi. Somebody recreated those Marseilles quartiers after they got deleted afterwards! I was wondering if you could think of a way to import the tabled lists by province from here. Problem is they feed off of templates but I think if something could be simply coded they could easily be imporrted and the headers put in English. What do you think? Nothing needs translating aside from the table headers.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 01:24, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

It appears to me that a script could be written to populate an English table with the imported Spanish equivalents. That said, I have no skills in that regard and have no idea how to do it. I'd be happy to do the imports if someone can create the script. Acroterion (talk) 01:57, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Sanity check

OK, here we go, take alook at Granny woman....I chaged it to a stub and editing the thing. It was a total copy of thr work of a single person. It also was, point of fact, a total myth, and has been addressed. WHY the Sanity check? BECAUSE it was rated a Start class...... I changed it to a Stub... AND thas not all....Jesco White is apparenmtly notable, (which I doubt) and is ALSO a Start class in Wiki Project Appalachia.....WHY? Its really a joke, honestly, I hope....ANYWAY, whatever feedback you could provide would be greatly appreciated...Coal town guy (talk) 14:26, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

I've never taken article ratings seriously unless they were rated by a project known for strict application of the criteria, like the MILHIST folks. It's all over the place. You did the right thing taking it back to a stub; close paraphrase is unacceptable, and this was closer than that. Acroterion (talk) 14:46, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

I see the problem, and have warned the user. I don't see any need for escalation provided it stops here. If they continue (having been warned by practically everybody), they can be sanctioned. It's OK to argue (my take is that notable makes no distinction between positive and negative, within the confines of BLP policy), but that doesn't permit editors to denigrate other editors with whom they disagree. User block

I don't spend a lot of time on wikipedia editing, but from what I have seen it seems like your indefenite block of User:Screwdumbop is a bit heavy handed. Don't you think a short term block is more justified at this point? Also I think the user might deserve more than a form response, they obviously care enough to make a comment on their own talk page(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Screwdumbop), they probably deserve a response. CombatWombat42 (talk) 18:37, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

You mean this comment [7] following this [8] and other similar edits? They don't appear to be here to contribute to the encyclopedia: I've noted that many adolescents go through a phase of making up words (I did): they then try to post them on WIkipedia (we didn't have Wikipedia in 1974 when I was making up words, but I suspect I'd have been a pest if we had). The congruence of the username and editing pattern indicate a single purpose-account dedicated to placing nonsense in the encyclopedia in violation of WP:MADEUP, persisting even after four warnings. You're welcome to engage them on their talkpage, and I'll reduce the block to 48 hours, which is an alternative time for serial nonsense-article-makers. Acroterion (talk) 18:53, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
I agree with everything you said there, and since 48 hours is an eterneity for "nonsense-article-makers" hopefully if they are one it will dissuade them, but *if* somehow they are not a "nonsense-article-makers" then a short term block *may* give them an opportunity to correct their ways.CombatWombat42 (talk) 19:06, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
That's fine, we'll see what develops. I'm in favor of redemption, in general. I think there's a doctoral dissertation in the making-up-words-phase: I'm convinced it has something to do with language skill development in general. Acroterion (talk) 19:13, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

John O. Brennan

,Acroterion Please quote me EXACTLY which criterion YOU think the link I included applies. The American people need to know the truth.— Preceding unsigned comment added by S2grand (talkcontribs)

That's the problem: it doesn't satisfy the criteria for external links, and from your comment about "the truth" above, you appear to be trying to advance an agenda. Acroterion (talk) 21:02, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Acroterion, you still haven't answered the question EXACTLY WHICH "rule" does my link violate. The American people STILL need to know the truth.````S2grand````

Item1 from WP:ELNO and WP:ELPOV for starters, and as I noted the first time, the Mother Jones article isn't encyclopedic content. It's a condemnation of the subject, not an in-depth biography, which is what is to be expected from an external link in a biography. Read WP:BLP while you're at it. Wikipedia isn't an appropriate place to carry on a campaign against living individuals or to reveal "the truth." Such statements are a red flag for an obvious point-of-view problem. The onus is on you to back up your edit in any case. Convince us. Acroterion (talk) 03:50, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
I've removed the Harpers and Guardian pieces as well: external links really shouldn't point to news stories, and they absolutely shouldn't link to opinions. We would no more link to "John Brennan's extremism and dishonesty rewarded with CIA Director nomination" than we would to "Brennan is nice to puppies and babies and should be confirmed because of that." Acroterion (talk) 12:26, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Acroterion, you appear to be a jerk. ````s2grand```` Who doesn't want others to see that he's been criticized.

No, I'm just not interested in being abused by people who are using Wikipedia to further a political agenda. If that means you think I'm a jerk, so be it. Acroterion (talk) 21:16, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Chris Dorner - Track Record of LAPD

I got your message.

Whilst I understand that the article is about Chris Dorner, it is also inextricably about the LAPD. One cannot be discussed without the other. The article contains a lot of background on Chris Dorner but very little on the LAPD, therefore the article reads out of context.

I included a very short passage discussing the history of the LAPD. If you don't like it I can change the words but I'd like to include the main points which are all well backed up by wikipedia links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Z07x10 (talkcontribs) 17:16, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

I agree in principle, but it has to be kept short and proportional, and you aren't entitled to edit-war. Please use the talkpage for discussion on how this should be approached. Acroterion (talk) 17:20, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Coatracking still exists at Christopher Dorner

Thank you for attempting to revert the content irrelevant for Dorner BLP here, but your edit only took out a space instead of all the content added here. This content about the LAPD in the 1950s, decades before Dorner was born, does not belong in a biography. I believe I am at 3 edits removing the WP:COATRACK, so would you mind removing that edit? I believe that may have been your intent all along. Thanks, 72Dino (talk) 21:17, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

The version I deleted was an attack page, probably created by a disgruntled student. A previous version was deleted for the same issue. You'll need a Wikipedia account to create an article: IPs can't make articles. You would first write the basic, referenced article in a sandbox in your userspace. However, as someone who has a declared conflict of interest, you'll need to be careful about choosing the account name (it should reflect you as an individual, not a group of people or the company) and about how you write it. Generally, editors are discouraged from writing about subjects in which they have a direct conflict of interest, but it's not prohibited: you just have to be careful to be neutral and well-referenced to third party coverage, and to remember that you cannot control the subject once it's put up. In this case, I suspect it will be something of a vandalism magnet, if the deleted versions are any guide. Alternatively, as an IP you can write a neutral, referenced version at articles for creation, and it will be reviewed by others and possibly placed in article space. OH, its ON

Thought I would let you know about my new Wiki goal. Hey, I thought I would finisdh my first year here with a nigh impossible task......how about thisCoal town guy (talk) 14:10, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Goals are good: is the idea to get all those to FL status? It's the sort of thing that can be done (relatively) easily and systematically, so go for it. Acroterion (talk) 14:26, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Depends, there are 2 sets of criteria to make this a good topic of featured topic. One would be yes, to make all county lists FL, OR get 50% of them that way. We are at 23 of 52, so its close....I have also been going back to the older FL and doing edits that are now expected of a FL now. AND the standards have changed...ALOTCoal town guy (talk) 14:44, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

All of the standards have changed: we all used to put general bibliographic references at the bottom of the article, now we do in-line cites. FA, GA and FL criteria are tighter than a few years ago, and so it goes. I do see less emphasis on article creation and more on article improvement, which is inevitable, but it's harder to motivate new editors to do that. Us older folks are more likely to stumble on a crappy article, get mad, and fix it. Acroterion (talk) 15:59, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
I had a physics prof who used to sat that of all the matter in the universe, shit is unique because when you slice a pile of shit into 500 piles, you have 500 piles of shit. A prelude to quantum mechanics I guess, BUT as a relative new guy, it is incredible that even by my bizarre locations in the US standards, there are some real stinkers out there....Coal town guy (talk) 16:13, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Mark Lane (author)

Hi, Acroterion. There appears to be an IP who technically slithered out of a 3RR vio in Mark Lane (author) by creating an account. I'm closing in a similar violation myself. Could you take a look there and see if temporary page protection is warranted? Thanks again! Location (talk) 03:48, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

I'd quit for the evening about 20 minutes before: I see that AN3 took care of it. Acroterion (talk) 12:37, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! By the way, I've seen various conspiracy-minded editors refer to "conspiracy theorist" as a pejorative that should be stricken from various articles. Do you have any thoughts on that? Although there are plenty of reliable sources for most of the individuals labelled "CTs", I'm not totally against the idea of revisiting the issue in an attempt to find mutually acceptable terminology or wording. Location (talk) 03:21, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
My experience with the removal of "conspiracy" from "conspiracy theory" is that it's an attempt to portray a fringe phenomenon as something more plausible and reasonable than it really is. It's often flatly nonsensical: the claim that a massive conspiracy engineered by the government demolished the WTC is a conspiracy theory - what else would it be? It certainly posits a conspiracy on a vastly larger scale than 19 guys with box cutters and some guys in Afghanistan. In cases where no actual conspiracy is proposed a better term might be "fringe theory" or the like. Perpetual motion machines would be a fringe theory: their suppression by energy companies would be a conspiracy theory. I've found that the word "theory" is in any case misused, as anyone who hangs around evolution-related topics (or a variety of medical topics) will note. On the other hand, describing an individual as a conspiracy theorist or fringe theorist should be approached with caution, as with any other BLP issue, and I'd avoid it in a biography unless it's entirely beyond dispute, with multiple secondary sources. Acroterion (talk) 05:00, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
I agree with all of this. It seems obvious to me that anyone who espouses a particular conspiracy theory is a conspiracy theorist, but those who object to the term don't seem to provide a suitable alternative. I've seen "conspiracy researcher" (which doesn't seem appropriate for people like Milton William Cooper, who seems to have simply made stuff up) and "conspiracy author" (which also doesn't seem appropriate for people like Dave Emory who simply talk about them). I wonder if it would be more acceptable to the conspiracy-minded if these articles stated something like "John Doe has been characterized as a conspiracy theorist" but I'm not sure if suggesting attribution violates WP:WEASEL. Location (talk) 08:26, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
By the way, do you think Category:Conspiracy theorists should be amended to address multiple secondary sources? Location (talk) 08:38, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

The atlas of human cardiac anatomy copyright issues

Hello Acroterion, were the copyright issues that led to page deletion because of the uploaded photo/video? I filled out the necessary forms stating that I'm the creator of that material (or so I thought) via the wikimedia commons media upload. Or, were you referring to some portion of the text? I created that as well. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VHlab (talkcontribs) 22:35, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it's a direct copy of material that has a clear copyright notice - copyright 2010 University of Minnesota, so you do not (as far as Wikipedia is concerned) have the authority to override a plain copyright notice. You can't lift material (text or image) from a copyrighted source, whether or not you originally wrote it. It either has to be noted as CC-by-SA on the university's website, or it must be donated to Wikipedia by someone at the university with sufficient authority to do so. Welcoming a newby

Hey- you called it. The user who was changing things on Kanawha County WV is a newby (KanawhaCo) and they have contacted me asking for help and direction. I welcomed them the best I could and provided the 5 Pillars as well as a link to the tea house. Juts thought I would let you know. By the way, they do not work for the county, they just like the place alotCoal town guy (talk) 16:44, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Good job; it's often helpful to follow them a little bit and offer discreet help and encouragement when it looks like it's needed. Just a year ago I ran across this enthusiastic guy writing lots of articles on coal camps in West Virginia and he seems to be doing pretty well. Acroterion (talk) 16:49, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Could you spare a moment to look at the edit history of this page? For some reason one camp of editors insists the group gets no tax money, while another (myself included) return to the NYT cite. Why this is an issue in another mystery. Could you take a gander and help us determine the best course to follow? "In academia the fights are bitter because the stakes are so low." Paul, in Saudi (talk) 17:04, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

It looks like a question of possibly-conflicting sources, and an interpretation on whether the money becomes federal through its method of transmission. It looks like it's being hashed out on the talkpage, but everybody needs to agree on an appropriate way to describe how the money's being, in effect, laundered, albeit in a public manner. I'd want to know less about the checkoffs themselves and more about whether they account for 100% of the money disbursed or not (I haven't read it all in detail, by the way). Thanks for looking out. I don't take stupidity like that too seriously (I actually got refused by a TV station to run a event posting about a Crohn's disease symposium because they didn't think it fitting to talk about "bowels" on TV), but to a younger person who hasn't been dealing with it nearly as long as I, that could have been crushing. Great job defending the wiki, my friend! Gtwfan52 (talk) 22:40, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! - I had the impression from somewhere that in some cultures, "how are your bowels?" was a courteous greeting. I know several people with Crohn's or Crohn's-like symptoms, so I understand that Crohn's is no joke. Acroterion (talk) 23:07, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Advice on Galleries

Hey there- As fate would have it, I have lots and lots of pics of coal towns in WV. I thought about a Gallery for sdome of these places, Jenkinjones, Slab Fork, Whitby, Fireco, etc etc etc. Do you know of any specific rule pertaining to Galleries besides the fact that pic has to be copyright free, your own pic, not free etc etc etc? Many thanksCoal town guy (talk) 16:31, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Galleries have fallen out of favor on WP, but article pages on Commons are nothing but galleries, and that, while a lower profile, would be the most appropriate place to do it. Acroterion (talk) 02:03, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

You left a message on my talk page accusing me of edit warring. I reverted the IP's edit at 06:53. I again reverted the IP's edit at 07:20 and LEFT AN EXPLANATORY MESSAGE on the IP's talk page, explaining that the link was to a disambiguation page. Subsequently the IP edited again at 07:34 - I didn't respond or edit again. I don't edit war. I spend most of my WIKI time reverting vandalism and take exception to the accusation. Denisarona (talk) 16:19, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

I know that: I was replying (to some extent on your behalf) to the IP and warning him, not you, and cross-posted to the IP's talkpage. Note the crucial @189.x that precedes it. You're not being warned (though in this kind of case, 3RR would apply to you too, so be careful of that). Big cat is on a lot of watchlists because of some long-term vandalism from a high school in California, so I happened to notice the reverts and the IP's insistence that "America" was somehow appropriate. I agree with you: it's not. Acroterion (talk) 16:38, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

9/11

I'm not vandalizing, My bottom line is knowing the truth of what happened on that tragic day, and it's not a so-called "conspiracy theory", i did research about the topic proving that 9/11 is an inside job, i mean honestly research tons of information about 9/11 before claiming the truth is this so-called "official story", there's alot of fishy stuff that doesn't make sense about 9/11 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cod1337 (talkcontribs) 22:46, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, no. Don't do that again, there are lots of other places on the Internet to promote conspiracy theories: this isn't one of them, and it wasn't even a reasonable account of the relevant conspiracy theories. Acroterion (talk) 22:49, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Refactoring

Sorry, you've mistaken this place as somewhere for you to continue an argument
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

You posted an invalid warning on my talk page which said "Stop harassing other editors: they are permitted to manage their talkpage, within reason, as they see fit. You've made your point, now stop." Actually, you are wrong and therefore should educate yourself on refactoring policy. While an editor is indeed permitted to remove entire comments of other editors from their own talk page, it is a violation to remove only a portion of another editor's comments, resulting in them being presented out-of-context. Per WP:TPO, "Never edit or move someone's comment to change its meaning, even on your own talk page." Removing a portion of another editor's comments "constitutes a change in meaning, and should only be done by the user who wrote it or someone acting at their explicit request". Purposely misrepresenting what another editor has posted by removing only a portion of their comments is a major refactoring violation. I suggest you stay out of this matter. And it appears that the other editor has finally accepted the policy and has stopped violating the policy. But if it continues, appropriate warnings will continue to be issued and a report at AN/I may be necessary. --76.189.111.2 (talk) 22:50, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Good luck with that.--MONGO 22:56, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
"Butt out" isn't an appropriate response. That's why I said "within reason." You appear to be using this as a pretext for escalation and have moved into harassment. I recommend that you stop and consider that you're making things worse by antagonizing editors with whom you should be discussing. Musdan could have handled it better, so could you. Acroterion (talk) 22:58, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
The editor repeatedly violated refactoring policy, pure and simple. He was properly warned and referred to the applicable policy, yet chose to ignore it. I would have had no problem at all with him removing my comments in their entirety, as that is certainly his right. But to simply remove select portions of someone else's comments is highly inappropriate. And if you knew that, then your "within reason" comment was disingenuous because the editor's refactoring was a clear violation of the policy. For the record, I did not say "butt out", so putting it in quotes as if I did is a mischaracterization. I said, "I suggest you stay out of this matter." --76.189.111.2 (talk) 23:08, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
We're not going to have a meta-argument over the argument you were having with Musdan over how to argue about content. We have an encyclopedia to build, and now that you've both made your points you can get back to making it better. You've heard of de-escalation, I'm sure: please practice it. Acroterion (talk) 00:00, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
This is not about content. This about a policy violation issue in which you inexplicably felt the need to inject yourself. You brought this upon yourself. Now we'll see if you want to continue this. I suggest you educate yourself on the terms deescalation and condescension. You've heard of a dictionary: please use it. 76.189.111.2 (talk) 00:14, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
I felt the need to stop two editors from an escalating level of shrillness that served no purpose and upset both; that's what I'm supposed to do. It worked. We're not going to do that here. Now that we're done, I'm going to spend an hour putting up drywall. Have a nice evening. Acroterion (talk) 00:23, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) And how's that working out for you right now? And while you obviously feel this need to pat yourself on the back, let's be clear that nothing you did "worked". The editor finally learned his lesson and adhered to the refactoring policy instead of continuously violating it. You preach deescalation, yet have done nothing but escalate this matter, including your sarcasm ("You've heard of de-escalation, I'm sure"). You actually made things worse. And if you can't see that, then perhaps you should not be an administrator. 76.189.111.2 (talk) 00:31, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

WV Constitutional Convention question

Hey I tried this at the WV Project page, and I got the sound of chirping crickets as a reply, what do you think??- I noted that this was on the to do list, HOWEVER, I have a question.......I looked at about 30 other US state Constitution pages, including the few that are marked as GA. Their specific states constitutional conventions are a redirect to their specific state constitution. Should I Yes or No do this with WV? I am in the process of updating the West Virginia Constitution pageCoal town guy (talk) 18:25, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Coal town guy (talk) 13:42, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

That's probably because nobody took an interest. I would think that West Virginia's unique history would make the WV constitutional convention entertaining as a subject. Acroterion (talk) 23:49, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes and No. The only agreed upon thing at the first convention was they they really did not like old va law, and they wanted to be named something other than va......the second one that resulted in the currently used 1872 constitution was very coolCoal town guy (talk) 12:58, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
HOWEVER, I have a secret weapon for Article 3, the Bill of Rights, I will give you a hint....here and there is no case law for or against it in the state, cool huhCoal town guy (talk) 13:14, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

A bold new world...I think

SO, I thought, WHY NOT propose a new US County Template, given the past year, and tyhe mercurial edits I often revert, or change, I went to the WV Project Talk poage as well as the US County Talk page and posted a NEW and IMPROVED PROPOSED county template. It can be seen here . I did indeed use humor to show that all new knowledge is welcomed, within reason of course. I am open to any and all observations. I do not care if people hate it, or love it, BUT, a discussion needs to take place on this. In my observations, we have some fantastic new folk who, could benefit, IF they were to have a template with comments. Let me know what you think or what you would suggest...Coal town guy (talk) 12:56, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Would it be correct to assume that since nobody has posted an opinion on some of the comments, I can just use this as a county template??Coal town guy (talk) 23:59, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
No doubt as soon as you use it, they'll be all over you. I'd give it a week or two, and would tone down the noinclude comments (though I agree with your sentiment). Acroterion (talk) 00:49, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I can tone them down, some. BUT, I think of all of the editors and the brand new folk and in all good faith, I think if they knew about Wiki travel or had a template with comments, SOME would go away. Otherwise, I honestly do not believe they know what or what not to add. Others, lets face it, they know. In all honesty, it did take me a while to get, oh, look, a county template and oh look, its not used, ALOT. I honestly and in all good conscience want to add value, per guidelines, to a template that everyone, SHOULD use.....Coal town guy (talk) 00:57, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I think the link to WikiVoyage (not WikiTravel) is a good idea, and we should do more along those lines. Acroterion (talk) 01:07, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I toned it down AND I did indeed hiot all 55 WV county pages to try and follow the "current" template. There are a few counties which lack a history section in totum and some had notable residents whose only qualification was the fact that lived in the county and could fog a mirror....Otherwise, I hope more can get into the county section for the US it could be a great article and having a template with comments that speaks to this would be betterCoal town guy (talk) 01:30, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I UNinvolved myself after another editor told me about how many edits they had and how a much more experienced hand should do it and really as this a free encyclopedia, hoisting a group consensus is a NO NO. (translation...lets let it rot and see if a brighter guy who I agree with comes along)I mean who cares that Featured content relies on consensus? I've already reached that point - there's no evidence that they've read or understood the policies I've mentioned, nor is there any indication of an understanding of the overall context of the hearings. I'm reminded of some of the conspiracy theorists I've encountered, who hang on to a single fact or inconsistency like grim death, insisting that it overturns everything else. Río Grande del Norte National Momument

Hello, I am curious as to why you reverted the Río Grande del Norte National Monument page to the original page. The edits were made by the Bureau of Land Management and are accurate. I am new to editing Wikipedia pages and am not quite sure how it works. Could you please let me know what was wrong? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.124.92.254 (talk) 17:51, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

As I explained in the edit summary and to the user who made the good-faith edits, the additions were wholesale copy/pastes of the executive proclamation, with no attribution. While it's a public-domain text, incorporation of such material must be explicitly credited. It's better that it be used as a source rather than as verbatim text. I'm planning on following up and using it as a source for expansion, written in somewhat more appropriate non-legislative language. Acroterion (talk) 18:23, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

We apologize that we did not cite the Proclamation. As stated before, we are new to editing Wikipedia. We look forward to reading your contributions to the page and hope that it will be timely, as we have had several inquiries from the public. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.124.92.254 (talk) 21:15, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Actually, right now I'm writing a condensed summary using the proclamation as a source. Feel free to amplify, and if you've got some good published references (presumably there are materials from which the proclamation was derived), please use them - I can help with the formatting. Acroterion (talk) 21:22, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
I've established a sourced outline that avoids extensive quotation from the proclamation. I've also used the rather nice BLM page for a lot of material. The article suffers from a paucity of images - I notice that the BLM Flickr stream has a lot of nice images, but they're restricted in their use (no commercial use, no derivative use) and can't be used here. Some good public-domain pictures would be a big help. Acroterion (talk) 22:10, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your work on the page. I have confirmed that the photos on FLICKR should be in the public domain. I will change that now on FLICKR. When using them, please give photographic credit to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in the following manner:

Bureau of Land Management, or BLM/Photo By _____ (if known), or BLM/State or Field Office (if known)

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.124.92.254 (talk) 17:32, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you! You are welcome to edit the article, remembering that BLM IPs will tend to attract more scrutiny, so edits should be as neutral and factual as possible: see WP:COI and WP:BPCOI for advice on editing subjects with which you are closely associated. Photos should be either public domain (completely unrestricted) or at least CC-by-SA, attribution required, derivative use and commercial use permitted. Most images taken by federal employees on federal time are automatically public domain. Acroterion (talk) 17:48, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Toby Lane Vineyads

Hello, I am new to Wikipedia and I was asked to create a wikipedia page for Toby Lane Vineyards but it was quickly deleted. I can change the style to be more educational if it was too promotional before. All of these similar wineries have Wikipedia pages: Araujo, Bryant Family Vineyard, Colgin Cellars, Dominus Estate, Grace Family Vineyards, Harlan Estate, Opus One, Screaming Eagle, and Sine Qua Non so I don't know what the difference is or why they weren't deleted as well. Can you help me figure out what to change? We are a new winery so we don't have a lot of references yet. Please post a notification on my talk page when you respond. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olivia4nier (talkcontribs) 02:51, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

There are four problems, all related. In general, we ask that editors avoid topics with which they have a direct connection: that allows enough editorial distance for an appropriate tone and avoidance of overt or implicit promotion. The second problem was that there was no indication of notability, as admitted above, if there aren't many references out in third-party publications the subject may not meet Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines until there is a significant amount of press coverage (of the vineyard or company itself, not just wine reviews). Third, the article was clearly written as promotional material. One would not expect to see lines like "The best way to secure a bottle of their wine is through their Wine Club Reserve List" 'Round, supple tannins provide an enticing framework for the flavors and contribute to a lingering finish" or "It has been suspected that part of the secret to their above average grapes may well be due to the fertilizer the horses provided!" in an encyclopedia, still less glowing tributes from reviewers. The most that might be said on Wikipedia would be "The vineyard's wines have received positive reviews in The Wine Country." Please do not use Wikipedia as a social media marketing opportunity. Finally, it appears that the text was cut-and-pasted from the vineyard's copyrighted website. While there are ways to donate the text, marketing materials (which are after all meant to sell wine if they're doing their job) aren't appropriate for inclusion here anyway. Acroterion (talk) 03:02, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
By the way, many of the examples you noted are themselves excessively promotional: some drastic editing may be needed there too. Acroterion (talk) 03:08, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Jarvis Page

Hey how's it going. I made the corrections on the Jarvis(singer) page. Please check and see is it meets the criteria. I ask because I placed all references to show notability. The artist is signed to Capitol Records and has a national song on the radio. I saw where the previous user said I used some of the bio from the site but i attempted to rewrite the entire article and when I hit save edits, you had deleted. I ask that you please review. Thanks a whole lot. [1] [2] [3] (Superkat2 (talk) 03:28, 28 March 2013 (UTC))

The issue wasn't notability - it was advertising, reading like something the artist's agent would write, and in fact you appear to have copied it. Please write a neutrally-worded, non-promotional article that isn't a copyright violation. Acroterion (talk) 11:54, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Notice of Dispute resolution discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we are requesting your participation to help find a resolution. The thread is "Joe McCarthy;McCarthy Army hearings".

Guide for participants

If you wish to open a DR/N filing, click the "Request dispute resolution" button below this guide or go to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request for an easy to follow, step by step request form.

What this noticeboard is:
  • It is an early step to resolve content disputes after talk page discussions have stalled. If it's something we can't help you with, or is too complex to resolve here, our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What this noticeboard is not:
  • It is not a place to deal with the behavior of other editors. We deal with disputes about article content, not disputes about user conduct.
  • It is not a place to discuss disputes that are already under discussion at other dispute resolution forums.
  • It is not a substitute for the talk pages: the dispute must have been discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) before resorting to DRN.
  • It is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and explanation of policy.
Things to remember:
  • Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, and objective. Comment only about the article's content, not the other editors. Participants who go off-topic or become uncivil may be asked to leave the discussion.
  • Let the other editors know about the discussion by posting {{subst:drn-notice}} on their user talk page.
  • Sign and date your posts with four tildes "~~~~".
  • If you ever need any help, ask one of our volunteers, who will help you as best as they can. You may also wish to read through the FAQ page located here and on the DR/N talkpage.

Please take a moment to review the simple guide and join the discussion. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 17:46, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 31

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Ute, Black bear and River otter (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
