Zep & Falcons[edit]

It probably should be Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons, the creator of the article should have know better... will hunt down the tracklistings for the US release. There was also a UK release on Rockburgh Records (the label is defunct but was trying to track details of the band's signings with overseas labels). Dan arndt (talk) 04:59, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have found the tracklistings for both releases - its clear that whilst the majority of tracks are the same there are a few different tracks on the US release, "Gimme Little Sign" and "But It's Alright" (as well as a different track order). The band also release an album, Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons, on Rockburgh Records in 1979. Dan arndt (talk) 06:07, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jane Clifton wasn't actually a member of the band but did feature on the vocals of the three tracks on Cha ("Taxi Mary", "Walk On By", "You're Gonna Get It Boy"). In fact Clifton was only credited on the album as 'Additional Vocals' [1] and wasn't even acknowledged on the "Taxi Mary" single. Dan arndt (talk) 07:04, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Losing Game" wasn't their first single in the US and certainly wasn't the last single that they released. There were at least two singles released in 1981 (possibly three). A live version of "Shape I'm In" was released in September 1984 a year after "Losing Game". Dan arndt (talk) 08:45, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Kelly on Dimeadozen[edit]

Greetings shaidar,

There is a Paul Kelly show on dimeadozen called, "Paul Kelly "A-Z" Vancouver BC Canada September 17 & 18 2011 aud". Maybe you know about it, but when I saw it thought of you. It was just uploaded yesterday 11 November. Not sure if you have an account at dime but here is a link to the .torrent file. You have to register before you can have access to it. The uploader states that it is very good quality. Mattchewbaca (meow) 07:57, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have removed my PROD and added some material to this article. But I still maintain that it is not notable, and have therefore nominated it for deletion. Note that the Milesago link you added is not about the album, but about the stage show. --ColinFine (talk) 22:35, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John Blades[edit]

thanks very much for the help with John Blades article! Kathodonnell (talk) 13:32, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

thanks again for your help. and your suggestions for improvement. I've asked around to try get an image. and you're right - the section headings now seem a little out of place. at the time I started I thought it might be ok, but with all the info now it jumps around a little. I'll keep working on it Kathodonnell (talk) 00:28, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hunter[edit]

thanks for your help with Hunter (rapper) too. sorry I posted articles from my site. I replied on the Talk page. it's hard sometimes when I have the info on my site, but can't use it. Kathodonnell (talk) 06:58, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

sorry about the dates format in the refs. I've just noticed how you're changing it. I use the template. I'll write out the months in future. sorry, didn't realize I was doing it in the wrong format (I guess I just thought that's what the month & year under that field was, to be able to tell if US or AUS date format in DD/MM/YYYY) Kathodonnell (talk) 02:29, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for your words. yes we spoke on twitter & email. he shared his time & life with lots of people. it's very sad. he was so positive right up until the end and working hard on his music and making new songs to make his son proud. I understand there'll be another album released next week of his unreleased material, but there's no official notices yet afaik. thanks so much for your help with the article. lots of people appreciate it! I'll keep looking for the items you suggested. Kathodonnell (talk) 13:52, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discogs question[edit]

hi, wrt Discogs - I have a collection of Australian hip hop cds (from Mark Pollard / Stealth Magazine as he moved overseas) and I've started putting some up on Discogs (well, one tonight - as user http://www.discogs.com/user/StealthCollection :). this means I'm probably not meant to use them in references if I've added them there? I've added one for Reference Point & mentioned it on the Quro article & wrote that I'd added it into discogs. is this what I should do, or should I not use them as refs at all. it's just that the collection is really good and discogs is missing about 80-90% of it at first glance (some seem to be demos though - but I've seen some cds from artists mentioned in WP articles), so I want to slowly start adding it there too. some would be listed in the rap cella already too (I don't work on that site). thanks Kathodonnell (talk) 14:11, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

great, thanks very much for explaining all this & the examples. I'll start using this method. I wasn't familiar with musicbrainz so will take a look at it too. I didn't know about the album notes template either - this is really handy! thanks Kathodonnell (talk) 00:13, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ernie Althoff[edit]

I've added some refs and a bit of detail to Ernie Althoff since it was prodded. I'm not sure how much I need to add or what the process is or how much time there is before it might be deleted. can I just remove the prod notice? thanks Kathodonnell (talk) 01:14, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

thanks, that's good to know. I didn't realize there was a week to work on it. the editor has removed the prod whilst I was out today. Kathodonnell (talk) 08:39, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

dmoz & tips & another archive[edit]

thanks, I wasn't aware of open directory either (or if I was, I'd forgotten about it). great tip, I will try this! thanks for your tips - you should give a class or have a guideline for music articles or something! very useful :)

as an aside, I'm (slowly:) working on cataloging Mark Pollard/Stealth's Australian hip hop collection (mostly cds, a few dvds - he sold the vinyl)(then I'll do my collection - mostly Aus electronic/hip hop/sound art+experimental). first stage is just to list the items, then to go back & fill in the details like this example. I'm still fine tuning the fields - there's more (eg different images, & I'd like to link some of the blogs/articles about them/artists that perhaps can't be used on WP but still have good info, then eventually write a profile/review) but they don't display if not populated. whilst going through the boxes I noticed many aren't on either discogs or musicbrainz (& some are demos/hand made so prob wouldn't be suitable for those sites anyway), so I'll try add them to these sites too. some of the artists might be suitable for WP. @MusicBrainz on twitter just msg'd me & mentioned the cover art archive so I'll try put them there too. they said it's 'in progress', not final yet. if there's any other sites/tips you think might be useful, let me know (the site uses drupal so it's easy to adjust)(obv. it's a long term project - will take a while) Kathodonnell (talk) 01:56, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

oh re the EL, thanks. I try to follow WP:EXT Kathodonnell (talk) 02:25, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the tip on SAM. I think I joined their mail list at some point but hadn't had a chance to take a proper look at it. cheers Kathodonnell (talk) 10:26, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Black Ice[edit]

I've been considering finally nominating Black Ice (album) to Featured status. So far, the only things I think are needed are filling the ISSN in all refs and adding an alt to an image. Can you take a look at the article, do some clean-up (after all, it's mostly the same article you reviewed back in March), and most of all, advise if it needs a peer review and or can go straight to the FAC? PK 4 FAC3[edit]

This time I will try and assist wherever I can. Might set aside some time to go to the State Reference Library and see if I can track pages numbers down for some of the book references. Dan arndt (talk) 08:23, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm not certain that an ISSN has been assigned to Drum Media (Perth) - check NLA Catalogue. An ISSSN (International Standard Serial Number) is an eight-digit number which identifies periodical publications as such, including electronic serials. The ISSN is a numeric code which is used as an identifier: it has no signification in itself and does not contain in itself any information referring to the origin or contents of the publication.

  • Almost makes me feel like going back over all the PK albums & songs and upgrading them as well..... almost.... Dan arndt (talk) 02:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I thought that we had created articles for all the PK albums, its just that a lot of them are no more than stubs. As for the singles I was looking at the list and thinking maybe "Dumb Things", "Look So Fine, Feel So Low" or "Don't Start Me Talking" (as they all charted so there isn't an issue with notability plus I like them) but would be interested on your thoughts. Dan arndt (talk) 05:36, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Its harder to establish notability for video/DVD releases so may have to think about creating any articles for them. As for the singles - am in the process of chasing Kelly's book How to Make Gravy, which might give me some inspiration.Dan arndt (talk) 06:18, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Started off with "Dumb Things" as it also charted in the US. Feel free to swing by and wave your magic wand over it. Dan arndt (talk) 06:41, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dumb Things (not)[edit]

Looking at all the references that I can find I'd have to conclude that whilst there was two years separating the release of "Deportees" and "Beggar on the Streets of Love" that they it was likely that they were both recorded at the same time in the studios of 96fm and produced by local radio stalwart Steve Gordon (must get on with a article on Gordon someday) - check Bob Vogt's comments. It's likely that the two groups were in Perth at the same time (must check their touring schedules) and that they recorded some covers together - interesting that WPA never released any of these, though they did release other covers in particular an EP of The Sports. Dan arndt (talk) 09:09, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Was thinking that "(Beggar on the) Streets of Love" might also be worth a separate article - then I started having a look how bare some of Jenny Morris discography was looking....Dan arndt (talk) 06:20, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm tending to err on the side that it was more likely to have been released in February 1989. Although it could be argued that it was released to co-incide with the cinematic release of Young Einstein (which occurred in December 1988), need to find out when the soundtrack album was released... BTW did you know the song was also used in the soundtrack to Look Who's Talking, which had its cinematic release in October 1989. Dan arndt (talk) 02:31, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The more I'm searching the more I'm coming up with the release date being 1988. It maybe that the original release was the double single pack, which was followed by the Young Einstein version in 1989, which resulted in the single charting... Also check this out a rare CD version put out by A&M. Dan arndt (talk) 02:49, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Kelly[edit]

Unfortunately the facebook reference represents original research and whilst it confirms PK's split with Prior, it can't be used to verify the fact that they have split. Dan arndt (talk) 05:11, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary, the claim that this relationship continues into the present is original research/unverified, see: Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Paul_Kelly_.28musician.29

Revolver Sound Studio[edit]

The WAM Scene is the original material, interesting enough Australian Music Online never seemed to publish original content it was almost always sourced from elsewhere. Dan arndt (talk) 07:09, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

can you fix my archived references - the way you do best... Dan arndt (talk) 07:27, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Triffids[edit]

Was hoping that you could give me a hand with upgrading the article on Calenture and if you could cast you eye over "Holy Water" (as I'm not certain how to incorporate some of the review comments on the song) then that would be appreciated. Dan arndt (talk) 01:59, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Did a bit of research over the weekend. Born Sandy Devotional was recorded in August 1985 and released in June 1986. In The Pines was recorded in April 1986 and released in January 1987. The Peel Sessions EP (which were actually recorded in May 1985) was released in the middle of that year, with recordings for Calenture occurring between April & August 1987. The album was subsequently released in February 1988. "Bury Me Deep in Love" was released in October 1987, "Trick of the Light" in January 1988 and "Holy Water" in September 1988. The Black Swan was recorded between September and October 1988.
I'm presuming its a typo at AllMusic which say Calenture was released in February 1987, as it would be hard to release an album which hadn't been recorded yet. There was a year gap between In The Pines and Calenture recordings. Dan arndt (talk) 02:19, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The only problem that I have with this research is the Swedish charts which show the album charting in November 1987, which I struggle to see how that could be possible.
  • I'm starting to second guess myself now, as The Triffids website shows Calenture being released in 1987 not 1988.Dan arndt (talk) 02:40, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Based on all the available evidence I'd have to say the album was definetely released in 1987, late 1987.... Dan arndt (talk) 11:15, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jill Birt[edit]

You have been busy.... Have done a quick search of most of my available references and can't find anything yet. Am currently trying to get a hold of Bleddyn Butcher's book which might provide more details. Will let you know if I manage to track anything further down.Dan arndt (talk) 08:55, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need your expertise, please[edit]

Summer Love (Sherbet song) is up for deletion. For a completely separate "other end of the spectrum" question, I wonder if the "all charting songs/artists are notable" guideline will have to be changed now that the singers from The Voice (Australia) are charting each week based on iTunes downloads of their on air performance? The-Pope (talk) 02:48, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your great work on that. I'll never understand some AfDers. What about Kelly Green (musician)? Notable for her singles in the 1960s or a covers band singer? It would be useful if you (and Dan arndt) watchlisted Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian music/Unreferenced BLPs if you don't already. thanks guys, The-Pope (talk) 01:30, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not a very happy way to start the daa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aay. Mr Floppy threatened with deletion. Throw down your bun. What shall we do if 100,000 deletionists come marching over the hill? Project articles cleanup[edit]

Saw a reminder on the WP:AUS that there is list of articles that have had cleanup tags from 2006. There are a number of music related articles that need a little attention. I've just spent some time fixing up The Collection (Divinyls album) but there are a number of others (such as Best in Show (album), Original Sin – The Collection, Mushroom Records, Echolalia (album)) that could do with some work. Thought you might be interested. Dan arndt (talk) 07:42, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PK pics[edit]

Hi, I have upload a new photo of the Esplanade Hotel. I think it's better than the one currently used on Paul Kelly's page, which is your own and has a lengthy alt description, so I'm hesitant to change it. Also you've done more than anyone to haul Kelly's article towards FA status, so I wanted to know your opinion. - HappyWaldo (talk) 02:42, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

L Scott Pendleburry[edit]

Can't say I've heard of L Scott Pendleburry, but winning the Wynne Prize and being represented in some of Australia's state galleries certainly makes him notable enough. However he isn't mentioned in Bernard William Smith's Australian Painting or Robert Hughes' The Art of Australia, two classic histories of Australian art, and the highest recorded price for one of his works is a fairly meager $8,000, so he's a minor artist. I'll let you know if I come across anything else. - HappyWaldo (talk) 05:25, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic job! - HappyWaldo (talk) 06:17, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
