Sales

I know 60-65 million figures are widely known both in Spanish and English sources in her case, but seems inflated and probably are primary sources (by her record label or thanks to the vandalism in Wikipedia; e.g, from es.wiki). She has basically just a gap of 10 million to be consider one of the best-selling music artists and i'm not sure if her certifications are even close (I know she is huge both in USA and MEX, but i didn't see anything outside about certifications).

According to Chicago Tribune, her father said she sold 26 million before passed away and her record label started reporting 60 million at least since 2012. According to other sources, she sold 30 million (Notimex) or 40 million. I'm aware, we have now "better sources" reporting her sales around 60-65 million but context matters (Don't forget that according to one source, 60 million was reported initially by her record label).

I could easily change that figure, but we don't need a possible misunderstandings, an edit war etc specially because this is a GA and I found more than one figure: 30 million, 40 million and even 26 million. My 2 cents, is change 60-65 million reports to 30/40 or even, I don't have problem with the 26 million if we base the certifications criteria.

There's no real indication that Selena sold that amount of records (above 30 million copies), she has only 5 studio albums, and only the last one sold around 5 million copies worldwide. She has no record certifications in European or Asian countries, she didn't even appear in charts from those continents too. The certification criteria should be used in this case, and like the other cases use the most close to it.--88marcus (talk) 19:01, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. Let's wait at least 1 week in case if we have additional comments. Otherwise, I'll put 30 million, for me that range sounds good. Apoxyomenus (talk) 04:05, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Has been passed almost 1 month and nobody else commented (despite there are some users with activity around these days from WikiProjects like Latin Music). So, there is nothing that could be consider disruptive with this change. Thanks, --Apoxyomenus (talk) 18:26, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Let’s your call Mauricio Duque 07:32, 8 December 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mauricio Duque (talkcontribs)

I feel like she could of very well sold around 60 million records, according to Billboard, she sold 18 - 20 million albums in the 1990s alone, I feel like from the 2000s, the 2010s and now the 2020s she should of sold a lot of records, regarding the certifications in other countries, I only know the Selena Movie soundtrack is certified Gold in Hong Kong. Also the sales of her singles could support that she has sold around 60 million. As well as streaming. On Spotify alone she has over 1 billion streams which contributes to her sales. On Apple Music and iTunes, she’s been charting in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Which can also contribute to her sales. SelenaQueentanilla (talk) 17:57, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should I add or not?

May I add English pronunciation of Selena Quintanilla Perez? I will also do it in the Selena Gomez page. /səlnə kntənjə pɛərrɛs/ sə-LEE-nə KEEN-tə-NEE-yə PAIR-res Marc Raphael Felix (talk) 09:59, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

With a source, because "Perez" is not pronounced with a double R. (CC) Tbhotch 22:07, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Mauricio Duque 07:02, 4 December 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mauricio Duque (talkcontribs)

Wait. I removed it after being disappointed by Sundayclose reverting the english pronunciation, then shortly returned albeit for the first name only ;) TheRafaMarc15 (talk) 10:48, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Look, it doesn't matter how "other people" or "Selena Gomez" pronounces the name. Selena Quintanilla's name is pronounced the way SHE pronounced it. If our standard is how other people pronounce it, we could end up with a dozen different pronunciations. So we need two things: how SHE pronounced it, and a reliable source to verify that. Netflix show

I remember that Netflix had a documentary about her but I forgot the name of it and not sure if it's still on Netflix — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lunyaah (talkcontribs) 14:40, 9 December 2020 (UTC) It was around 2018 or 2017 and not related to the one Netflix released in 2020 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lunyaah (talkcontribs) 14:44, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am not aware of the documentary of there was one, but there is a tv series (released in 2020) showing on Netflix about her life called "Selena: The Series". CallieHJ (talk) 02:39, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This article is awful

All I wanted to know is the circumstances of her death and for that I have to read an 1800 word section? Just make it like 2 sentences. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.209.160.5 (talk) 02:56, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's simple:Selena's function. (CC) Tbhotch 20:26, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This article is about Selena so of course there is going to be background on her life, too. So it's not an awful article as it's written up the way an "about" article should be written. If you want to read on the circumstances on her passing away, then you would need to read an article written that focuses on only that and I don't know if anyone's written an article focusing on only her death on Wikipedia. Selena English Pronunciation

We pronounce it as "Seh-Lee-Na" as in Selena Gomez, right? Marc Raphael Felix (talk) 13:21, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's pronounced the way Selena Quintanilla pronounced it. And Wikipedia requires a reliable source to verify that. Sundayclose (talk) 15:28, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Under section “Murder,” subheading “Impact,” third paragraph, change George W Bush to George H W Bush. 73.97.174.20 (talk) 07:39, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: It's correct as written. George W. Bush was governor of Texas in 1995, not George H. W. Bush. ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 12:54, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

I added a sentence about Selena: The Series and lifted footnotes 10, 11 and 12 from that article. However, a parameter for the footnotes is missing and I can't figure it out. Would a Wikipedian more skillful than I please enter the parameter. That will clean up these footnotes. Thanks for helping with this excellent article about a wonderful singer and person. May she rest in peace with the angels. American In Brazil (talk) 19:06, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
