Essar Steel (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Following are the reasons why I want to have the Essar Steel page deleted:

1. Essar Steel has been acquired by ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel. It is now called ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India. A Wikipedia page for the same is being created.

2. I wanted to update the existing Essar Steel Wikipedia page, but since I do not have admin access to the page, hence I am unable to update the page name.

3. The existing Essar Steel information will be updated on the new AM/NS India page. So no information will be lost, it will be updated on the new page.

Since there is a lot to update and since I cannot make edits to the historical Essar Steel page, My best possible way forward is to create a new AM/NS India Wikipedia Page. Please be assured that this is not for corporate promotion, this action is being undertaken to avoid any confusion about the two. Please find below relevant media articles that talk about the acquisition and the name change for your reference:

  • Keep: Looking at the BEFORE news results at least, I don't think it's fair to say that this is a "small lobbying organization." They seem to be a fairly significant trade group for this industry. Reasonable minds can differ about the sufficiency of the coverage but, at least to me, I think the relevant notability guidelines are met. DocFreeman24 (talk) 19:13, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As Cxbrx noted on the article talk page last year, this one doesn't look notable. The Nevada Place Names source is just a single sentence saying it was a non-agency rail station. Searching brings up passing mentions, an announcement issued when the station was closed, and references to a college basketball player, William F. Herrin, and Herrin, Illinois. This doesn't appear to meet WP:GEOLAND or WP:GNG. Hog Farm Talk 03:44, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Taking a further look, the 1932 1:250K Sonoma Range topo shows 3 buildings labeled "Herrin" adjacent to the tracks. The buildings never appear in the Winnemucca 1:250k map nor the early Knight 1:24k topos. The 2011 Knight 1:24k has a label of Herrin, but no buildings, my guess is that they got the info from the GNIS. Searchin Newspapers.com replicated User:Hog Farm's results (basketball player, William F. Herrin, and Herrin, Illinois). Newspapers.com did come up with a 1903 article about a cutoff that excluded Herrin and prompted a station named "New Herrin" to be created. "Raho" and "Stonehouse" were also on the cutoff. (Stonehouse could be associated with Stone House, Nevada). (Raho is a new name to me, GBooks found a shipper's guide that mentions Raho and that's about it). I checked GBooks again for Herrin and came up with nothing. Herrin is not listed in the index of Humboldt County 1905 As this location is not legally recognized and has virtually no coverage, trivial or not, neither #1 nor #2 of WP:GEOLAND are met. This location does not meet anything in WP:STATION nor WP:GNG. Cxbrx (talk) 04:42, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. My searches pulled up similar results as Cxbrx. NewspaperArchive searches pull up a 1906 article about an unknown man killed by a train "at Herrin". I found nothing to suggest there was a community here. Herrin isn't listed in Cram's 1887/1890 Atlas; it's also not listed in Cram's 1900/1902 Atlas. It's listed in Rand McNally's 1925 Premiere Atlas, with a population of "---", indicating a rail-only site. PostalHistory.com searches show there was never a Herrin post office. There isn't enough here to write an article, and all evidence I can find suggests there was never a population here. Firsfron of Ronchester 05:48, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Does not appear to meet WP:NACTOR or WP:GNG – Although he is credited on the poster for Kanang Anak Langkau: The Iban Warrior, the criterion for NACTOR that would best fit him is "significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions" and after combing through his credits in the article I can't say there is anything else that meets this requirement. Additionally, as NACTOR is only an indicator, GNG still has relevance, and I fail to find any significant coverage of the actor so far, unless the coverage is in another language. (There don't appear to be any other pages in other wikis to draw sources from). WP:BEFORE also failed to surface sources, with only one page on Google and no hits on news (with quotes, and just his first name as well) ASUKITE 03:12, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the place for me to provide my comments, my apologies if I'm wrong.

Most of my credited articles are in Tamil and malay Language newspaper, as I am active in Malay based entertainment industry and also Tamil Based entertainment industry. As I just started this wikipedia, Alot of the older articles can't be find online, since I have been active since 2005. I have cited recorded proof of my involvement.

I am continuing to find and improve the article. And I have not included any fake entries. And I have also been scanning printed documents to be uploaded on my involvement coverage.

Thank you, your consideration on my comments is very much appreciated, and please do let me know what are the things I need to improve, amend or add. Thank you Pelakonmalaysia (talk) 03:41, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you do happen to have sources (even in Tamil or Malay), you could always try putting them in the Wayback Machine to see if there is an archived copy, which might help in this case. Archived sources are very common on Wikipedia and we would welcome their addition if it helps assert the topic's notability. ASUKITE 00:00, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. The newspaper clippings and sources listed in the article (some of which also appear to have been uploaded to Wikipedia as a copyright violation) look more like passing mentions than significant coverage to me, therefore I'm sceptical that he individually satisfies GNG, outside of the notability of the band as a whole.  — Amakuru (talk) 09:12, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the heads up, I have removed the articles uploaded in wikipedia, instead I have uploaded to internet archives and referenced the link.
Thank you for the update, But I believe you are only reviewing part of the uploaded article. The articles I uploaded starts from me being in a band, then working in the local Indian industry to provide opportunity to upcoming talents, and then organizing the very first malaysian indian award show in Chennai India, and then becoming an actor. The article in tamil is a full write about my acting, being an indian acting in a Malay drama. As I mentioned, I am still gathering the sources and uploading them. And I will add copyright as it is from a national newspaper and no copyright claims or violation will be made. thank youPelakonmalaysia (talk) 09:31, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This article was created in 2009 and the only reference given was IMDB. It was marked as unreferenced then. It remains marked as unreferenced and has no new references.

I have attempted to find sources but can only find Wikipedia mirrors and database built pages. The only news hits I get are for other people with the same name.

I do not believe there are sufficient reliable sources upon which to base an article on. When Wikipedia is the main source of information about a topic we have an original research problem.

Notability may be borderline as well, playing small roles in movies and appearing in a scattering of episodes on tv shows. The article claims the actor died in 2009, though I have not been able to confirm this with a reliable source. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 00:31, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am trying to determine if these reviews are about him or if there are just "mere mentions". I also am trying to determine if these references support the text of the article. I am having trouble because none of these references seem to be online. I don't see his name in any of the titles. May I ask where you are accessing these sources? HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 22:09, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I already explained above. ProQuest (https://www.proquest.com) which requires subscription access, which I have through the library at my university. Reviews of plays and films don’t typically have the names of actors in their titles. 4meter4 (talk) 23:02, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Both LA Times reviews just mentions his name in a cast list, and don't indicate a leading role. The New York Times review has a few details on his performance and background. I have ProQuest access and can check further. So far, I don't see anything sourcing the early life biographical details. 4meter4, did you find that in any ProQuest sources? Firefangledfeathers (talk) 03:35, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, no biographical details. I have some potential leads on independent sources for cast lists for those productions but I can't access those until I get to the university drama library in person. I'll see what I can do to specify the exact roles in the shows later this week. The NYT review does have good details about his performance, and the Variety film review does as well.4meter4 (talk) 17:07, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cast lists don't help to support notability. We require sources that single him and his performance out for dedicated attention, not just sources that glancingly mention his name in a list. Bearcat (talk) 13:16, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NACTOR is not just automatically passed by every actor who's had acting roles, because every actor who exists at all has always had acting roles. NACTOR is passed by actors who can show media coverage about them and their performances, and not by actors who can't — notability under that criterion vests not in the list of roles per se, but in the quality of the reliable sources that can be shown to verify the significance of his performances. • Keep. Given the additional sources and roles that have been added, it seems like this should satisfy NACTOR. – wallyfromdilbert (talk) 08:14, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Is the best sourcing that has been come up with basically simply a list of trivial mentions of "X played in Y" (judging by the actual content of the article, and by stuff like this, which indeed only has trivial mentions)? The only actually encyclopedic information (beyond the listing of which roles he played in theater, which seem unrelated to his main claim to notability) is a brief unsourced paragraph. If that's all that there is, then this should probably de deleted or redirected to Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 21:38, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Draftify due to the challenges in meeting GNG. it's possible, maybe even likely, that reliable, secondary, in-depth coverage exists. The best source I can access is the 1986 NYT Shakespeare review, and I would describe it as falling just short of in-depth. @4meter4: I can't access the "Legit Chatter" Variety source; could you possibly pull a quote or two?
Important and relevant, but a bit of a digression: most experienced, active editors can get free basic access to ProQuest using the Wikipedia Library, along with other helpful resources. Firefangledfeathers (talk) 16:58, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The sources cited don't constitute WP:SIGCOV - like Firefangledfeathers said, "X played in Y" is hardly commentary. If that's the best available sourcing, this guy simply doesn't meet our standards for notability. ♠PMC(talk) 07:03, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Thanks to sources added by 4meter4. MrsSnoozyTurtle 08:12, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment WP:BASIC states that several sources that are not substantial may indicate notablity, but that several trivial mentions usually does not. I do not yet see consensus regarding whether the coverage is "not substantial" or "trivial". Also, none of the biographical material is sourced at all, failing WP:V. If this is accordinly removed, are we able to create a worthwhile article per WP:WHYN? I think this should be re-listed and discussion focused on these questions. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 18:59, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
