Actually...

I have a sad suspicion that it might not be all over just yet. Nothughthomas will probably log on tomorrow and see the block and a #$%@storm might ensue. Hope I'm wrong, but we'll see. XXX antiuser eh? 06:50, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If that happens, all they can do is edit their talk page. I am almost certain they will say or do something stupid that will convince the rest of the admins that they can't be trusted. But I won't be going there, lest NotHughThomas accuse me of baiting her, just make sure that you don't leave any talk page messages there. For me, I'm going to read the page with interest, but as a spectator and not as a participant. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:53, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Same. I want to stay as far away from them as possible. XXX antiuser eh? 06:59, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A very well thought through move, I dare say :-) Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 07:07, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would just like to say thank you to NotHughThomas for being so civil and for withdrawing from the project without much drama. Perhaps it might be best to remove a number of user talk pages from your watchlist? Thanks! - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 08:49, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I speak too soon - they've added three unblock templates before their talk page was protected. I guess she didn't mean any of what she said. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 03:19, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks

Deletion review for Crescent (tools)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Crescent (tools). Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. - — Preceding unsigned comment added by Typhoon (talkcontribs) 16:22, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Tbsdy. Would you undelete Crescent (tools)? I will expand and source the article with a couple of sources I have found on Google News Archive and Google Books (e.g. this and this). Thanks, Cunard (talk) 09:29, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, done. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 09:34, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sean Patrick O'Dwyer

Hello,

I am looking for information on Sean Patrick O'Dwyer and noticed you recently deleted the page on him (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Patrick_O'Dwyer). I was wondering if you had a copy of the content, or if there was some way to access it via Wikipedia archives or backups? There doesn't seem to be a page history available.

Thanks! 124.186.104.174 (talk) 08:08, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Tim Harrison Page

Hello, my name is Tim Harrison and for the first time I tried to put up a page about myself which was deleted by you.

I believe that I meet the criterion of credible individuals as many of my peers are on Wikipedia and virtually all events of which I have been artistic director at one time or another also appear here.

My own music has beem worked on by Stan Rogers and Daniel Lanois and I have recorded eight original CDs which have garnered world wide review, and as a recording engineer have recorded 15 CDs of other artists which have been released world wide.

You deleted my page because there was no reference to the Owen Sound Summerfolk Festival which in fact is referenced on the Owen Sound[1] page and the Mariposa Festival[2] is referenced on its own page as is the Northwind Festival, all of which I have been artistic director of at one time or another.

SO...how do I publish this page now, and how do I prevent editors from taking it down again...I believe I meet the Wikipedia criteria.

Tim Harrison

Thpharrison (talk) 12:19, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tim, it is possible to have the page created, but it really should not be created or edited by yourself, as we have a clear conflict of interest policy. Try following the procedure at Wikipedia:Articles for creation. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 12:24, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion

Hi Tbsdy! When you deleted File:A soldier of the Great War, known unto God; Essex Farm cemetery 2999986145.JPG, did you miss the {{nocommons}} tag on the page? Please can you reverse your deletion? Thanks. REDVERS 14:52, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I did... I've messaged Multichill to ask him not to include the {{nowcommons}} tag on such pages. I have restored, sorry about that. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 22:13, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Civil reforms

Howdy Tbsdy. I think Giano's comments & edit summary (fascist stuff) were meant for me, as I'm the one who used the "...wise to reform" comment. GoodDay (talk) 22:54, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I realise, but then he has not added anything to the discussion except mean-spirited sniping. Why should be allowed to continue this behaviour? I say, remove him from the conversation if he has nothing to add. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 22:56, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Giano's bark is much worst then his bite. Don't let it get to ya. GoodDay (talk) 23:00, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It tends to derail discussion. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 23:01, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
He's locked horns with administratros in the past, over being blocked for civilty breaches (mostly getting the blocks reversed). Therefore, it's not a total surprise, he'd be against strengthening administrators in this area. GoodDay (talk) 23:05, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So he's disruptive then. Look, I don't really care much about Giano and I'll stay as well clear of him as possible. However, I'm not going to disengage from the policy proposal, so if he thinks he can constantly snipe without any productive discussion I might as well ask the participants whether his comments should be removed. It will probably be declined, but then at least I've tried. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 23:09, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ya gotta do what ya feel is right, nobody can fault a fella for that. Most important, don't leave the discussion (on account of Giano's comments), stick to your values. GoodDay (talk) 23:13, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I wasn't planning on leaving it! I'll probably withdraw that suggestion and just start off new threads when Giano makes an ad hominem attack. I've found the best way of stopping those who wish to prevent forward momentum is to create more forward momentum. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 23:18, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please restore

Broadway Chamber Building, an 18-story building built in 1903. As the article was 100% descriptive, I do not understand your deletion as promotional. It was unreferenced , but it should be easy enough to show it notable, since it was the work of a famous, not merely notable, architect. (I know I have the ability to do so myself, but I want to ask you first.) DGG ( talk ) 00:10, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, but a. there was no references, b. it was created by the editor Feldman Realty Group, and c. there was no evidence of notability. But I'm fine with restoring :-) Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 04:38, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once Upon a Midnight

Hi, congratulations on your new baby boy. Why have you deleted the production image from this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Midnight ? After discussion, it was decided that one image from the production was valid to portray the actual event. It was sourced with permission of the creative team. If you look at the pages on other musical theatre projects you will find production images, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cats_(musical) It helps the look of the site, overall, to break up the words and is relevent to the topic to give a visual sense. Crackajack Mac

Hello, I noticed you blocked User:Human Rights Believer, well, it seems we have another sockpuppet of his, User:Crackajack Mac. Question about a deleted Article.

I'm writing to inquire about your deletion of the Stephen G. Post article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_G._Post). I'm pretty new to the non-consumer aspect of Wikipedia (though as an undergraduate I made a few edits), so I apologize in advance if these questions are irritatingly naive or asked frequently. I’ll try to make them as straight-forward and precise as I can at least.

The questions are roughly going to be getting after why it was deleted and how—if it needs to be simply recast— it can be re-written to make it better.

I looked at the rationale for the deletion, and I just want to make sure I understand it correctly. The relevant clause seems to be: “with no credible assertion of public domain, fair use, or a free license.”

My first question is: If the copyright owner is contacted and gives permission, would it be possible to reverse the deletion? I ask because I work with Stephen and I’m fairly certain he’d give permission for material from his personal site, and I could probably get permission from the University for using material from that site. If that wouldn’t resolve the issue, I’m probably missing something, so if you could either explain it to me or point me to the right place to figure it out. [I don’t mean to be presumptuous here. I’ve worked in tech support and know how awful such questions can be if there is a published manual. I’ve spent a few hours digging through Wikipedia pages explaining how things work, but I’m starting to get the impression that it’s somewhat analogous to riding a bicycle where you have to actually do the work to understand the technicalities.]

If it’s not possible to reverse the deletion, is it for some reason inadvisable for me to simply write a new article that uses and footnotes this information? Basically “writing in my own words” what is there so that it’s not a copyright infringement.

Thanks so much for your help in this matter!

kukudhi

please put the kukudhi page back up. I was using it and other breeds of vampires in my vampire mythology class and when I went to put the finishing touches on my paper and to give credit it was gone. Mythology is not a hoax any more than having an entry on Zeus or bigfoot. The Kukudhi is an actual name for a mythical breed of vampire by the Albanians. by labeling it a blatant hoax you disregard and disrespect a whole culture's ancient beliefs.

We'll need some references before this can be restored. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 22:03, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You asked for references, I'm not sure what you mean by that but I can give you what I have. The following is from the book I haven't returned yet to the library.

"Kukudhi = An Albanian name for the final stage in the development or transformation of the vampire. According to custom in some regions of Albania, an undead takes time to grow fully into the shape and powers of a vampire, becoming stronger the longer it survives. The last period of growth is called Kukudhi in Albania, and upon reaching this state the vampire is able to live at home during the day, no longer required to return to its grave, and is even able to travel to other lands, supposedly as a merchant." The Vampire Encyclopedia by Matthew Bunson on page 148

There are also talks about it in Dudley Wright's "Vampires and Vampirism: Legends from Around the World", Montague Summers's "The Vampire - his Kith and Kin" Peter Haining's "A Dictionary of Vampires" but as I have already returned them to the library I will have to check them out again before I can quote them for you.

Thanks for responding to me

So that is my problem because? Why does this editor get so much slack? - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 22:27, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but this is an official warning

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on User talk:GiacomoReturned. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. I realise that templating the regulars is regarded as improper, but I have my own views as regards that - I think that long term contributors should be boilerplated if they violate the rules. You might be a little bit angry about that, wondering why I should be permitted to act like this simply because I feel differently about something. You might think I am insensitive. You might be right. So might Giano. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:34, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's nothing like Giano taking over a discussion and accusing me of talking behind his back, which I didn't. I don't understand why you give that editor so much slack. Especially as I didn't in fact talk behind his back. Are you saying I did? - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 22:36, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am not saying anything of the sort - I am saying, "Please don't post on GiacomoReturned's talkpage in the next 24 hours", and I am offering to discuss the wider picture. Please consider it. LessHeard vanU (talk) 23:00, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to post anything more. I've got the diffs now. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 23:01, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Letting Giano get away with stuff is one thing, but to admonish and even threaten to block someone who does not choose to let him get away with stuff really makes me wonder about the future of Wikipedia. Chillum (Need help? Ask me) 23:16, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, wholeheartedly. It is a ridiculous notion that certain editors may act as they please, but woe betide those of us who--gasp--defend ourselves. → ROUX  01:27, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think LessHeard would ever have done this :-) From my understanding on Giano's talk page he's trying to calm the situation down, and for that I'm quite grateful. I'm also grateful that folks like Chillum are concerned for our project! I very much want to disengage with Giano now, if only he would let me. I've been forced to get diffs to defend myself, but I won't be using them unless he makes the accusation again.
I appreciate both your comments, Chillum for his kindness in defending me, and LessHeard for his kindness in trying to resolve conflict between myself and Giano :-) We're all friends here, and for the record I have a huge amount of respect for LessHeard. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 23:19, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps my impression was caused by me taking the wording of the template as the literal words of LessHeard. Perhaps he did not mean to say that you were being disruptive, or that your postings were a controversial change or that you might get blocked for it. I see nothing wrong with templating the regulars, as long as the wording of the template is what you mean to say. Regardless I am willing to accept that it was just an unfortunate choice of template content and take it in the spirit that you are taking it. Chillum (Need help? Ask me) 00:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Chillum, LessHeard is a good guy :-) Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 01:35, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unitanode's comments

  • This edit was not a great idea. Taking it upon yourself to remove an editor's comments from one discussion, and place them in their own thread is practically begging that editor to become more angry with you. UnitAnode 00:05, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Lots of other editors were getting confused. That editor is already angry and disruptive, I doubt I've made him more angry. Certainly I don't see why we should put up with disruption on the scale that they are making. The thread was about changes to the policy text, I don't see how any of the thread I moved is relevant. Hijacking threads in this way is really not acceptable. If the editor is now getting so angry they can't contribute, then I would suggest the editor is the one with the issue, and they might want to consider disengaging from the conversation. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 00:11, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Your removal of his comments was a terrible idea, period. You had to know it would only escalate things, and as such, your move was pretty disruptive in itself. You clearly don't want to look at what you did wrong in this matter, so I'll disengage from you now. But just know that what you did was not acceptable. Scottaka UnitAnode 00:19, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What happened next

What happened next with this discussion is actually pretty interesting. Unitanode said that he was going to disengage from my talk page, and I marked this thread as over with my customary "End of correspondence" user template. Then the following occured:

  1. He removed the tag and added another message.
  2. I removed the comments and replaced the template.
  3. I sent him a polite message asking him not to remove the template, and also that I thought that from his remarks that the conversation was over.
  4. He reverted my message
  5. He then created a new thread about the same topic on my user talk page
  6. I then removed the new thread, as clearly the conversation was over.
  7. I then sent him a message telling him that the conversation was over.
  8. ... to which he reverted with the edit summary of "You are not welcome here. I've told you that. If you continue, I will consider it to be harrassment.."
  9. ... and then he sent the following message to me:
Thank you for acknowledging receipt of the warning with your removal of it. Cheers, Scottaka UnitAnode 02:08, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  10. So I revert (again) and send him a final message noting the quite ridiculous hypocrisy
  11. ... to which he reverts with the edit summary "now you go from baiting and harassing Giano to harassing and baiting me? good luck with that. and stop now. you're becoming quite a master harasser and master baiter; i've told u to leave, now leave"

Now whom is harassing whom? All very amusing really. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 02:43, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Guitar Magic Evolution Software

Hi Tbsdy,

My addition of Guitar Magic Evolution Software was deleted as a commercial adveristing / promotion addition. I looked at the post regarding the deletion of Jym fitness and looked at FitBit in Wikipedia and really see an outright hypocrisy in the system. For example in my field Amplitube by IK Multimedia is here. Both FitBit Tracker and Amplitube Line 6 and its guitar POD, are totally commercial additions to the encyclopedia. The fact that they have more press - for example regarding FitBit which you do say should be deleted but isn't, you also mention that this article seems to be cited in quite a few more reliable sources, such as TechCrunch, the MIT Technical Review, and it shows notability in that it was launched at TechCruch50. Yes more money for reviews, more commercialism. That is the essence of pumping and advertising a product. It is simply discrimination that some commercial companies and products are allowed and not others. There is no question that this policy completely defeats the purpose of some form of fairness or truth to the whole non-commercial product promoting policy. I don't see how any sane or educated person would not be angered or disturbed by this outright oxymoron implementation of policy. (Please note I am questioning the whole policy - not a personal slight) We all have enough negativity on our plates. I will be very clear and upfront, why shouldn't I add a commercial product to help with promotion, why should there be any pretense that it matters when of course we have many additions that are allowed that are simply, plainly that as stated above. The idea of noncommercial additions is noble, noteworthy and "makes sense", but it reminds me of our failing government that has rules for the little people and then exceptions and bypasses for the big boys and others. I simply ask that you add my page or please delete the pages for FitBit, Amplitube, Line 6, guitar POD, and others like this. It would then be a fair system. Thanks + question

Tbsdy, thank you for taking care of my numerous CSDs which hopefully are more accurate than yesterday's deluge. Regarding Ericmaaa, whom you have blocked now (thanks!), I was wondering if you know of any add-in software that helps to put warnings on user talk pages. I was looking for the templates that have the little warning icons etc. just before I saw that you had already blocked him, but in the future I would hope to be able to leave warnings myself. Any ideas? (Short of manually editing the pages, that is!) Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 06:43, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have to be able to show notability, which this wasn't really showing. Please note I've protected this because you repeatedly recreated it - if you don't like the decision then please go to deletion review to contest the decision. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:54, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't delete me

Hi Tsbdy,

You've deleted my article (Brandaid) twice now even though I tried hard to make sure it meets the notability requirements. (You've marked as an A7 deletion). Could you please reconsider your decision. I have left a note in the discussion page of BRANDAID, which explains why I think Wikipedia needs an article about this organisation. I'd apprecitae it if you could help me meet the notability requirements.

LucidChart Deletion

I'm curious as to why the page on LucidChart was deleted. Methinks that it represents the ongoing movement to cloud-based visual-editing programs. What I don't understand is how a company like Creately can remain on Wikipedia when they are not doing anything that is a significant change. Their page seems more an advertisement than the one I had put up on LucidChart. I even referenced many popular blogs that reviewed LucidChart. Your help here would be appreciated. LucidChart merits a review.

Furthermore, my article was not up for an hour before it was deleted. It was not given enough time to be reviewed by others.

Hey there. What will it take to get you to ignore Giano's comments at Incivility blocks? You're letting him get to you, and meanwhile the effort is going into the toilet. Flip the switch, refuse to fight, get back to work.--Father Goose (talk) 10:23, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

But I'll leave that whole policy page alone, as this is what a number of people would like me to do :-) I did try - I think this is for someone else to take a stab at now. I really did try to encourage debate, and I'm just sorry that it got derailed by trolling, baiting, and incautious and nasty remarks. The sunny side of life

A joke: The duck at the grocery store

A duck waddles into the grocery store & asks the owner. "Quack, quack, quack, any duct tape?", the owner replies "We're a grocery store, we don't sell duct tape" the duck leaves.
For the next 3-days, the duck returns & asks the same question: "..any duct tape?". The owner (now frustrated) responds "I told you alreday 3-times, we've no duct tape, we're a grocery store.", he then warns "If you come back here tomorrow, asking about duct tape again? I'll nail your flat feet to the floor". So the duck leaves.
The next day, the duck returns. "Quack, quack, quack, any nails?", the owner replies "no", the duck then asks "Any duct tape?". GoodDay (talk) 16:21, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

Look, I do not understand what is wrong with my List of Italian regions GDP pages. Literally, nothing is copied! Seriously, you can look, and not one phrase was copied from the source. It takes time to write these pages, and I can assure you that there is no copyright infringment. The only things which are the same are the statistics, but that is obvious, since how can I quote the statistics of a source without making them the same. It takes work, and I would appreciate you receiving an answer by me about the pages, since, I actually see nothing wrong, and in my eyes, this is either thoughtless vandalism or a huge misunderstanding. I would please like you to list all the things which are "copyright-breaking" and we can discuss this. But, I am getting pretty annoyed of turning on my computer and finding deleted pages with a notice saying "copyright-breaking" without having actually told me what the problem is (i.e. what particular phrase or sentence I put which is copyright breaking). Please reply as soon as possible--Theologiae (talk) 17:13, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion

Further to your decision to delete the image from Once Upon a Midnight, the image itself is not "non-free" as defined by this site, so the deletion discussion is invalid. It was in fact used with permission of the photographer, and has been published in all the reviews and journal articles cited on the wiki article. The photographer has freely distributed this image. Furthermore, the comment that it is replacable is also clearly invalid as everyone knows cameras are not permitted in theatres. So it seems an odd and unjustified decision, especially as other wiki articles on theatrical productions contain production photographs and these are illuminating for those who have not seen the production to observe costume, lightning, style, mise-en-scène, character and so on. What, exactly, is the issue? (129.96.112.134 (talk)) —Preceding undated comment added 02:42, 11 February 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Don't Get Discouraged

It's certaintly worth being careful when blocking on civility concerns, but it's something that eventually needs to be codified somehow: there are far too many people on Wikipedia who are just here to pick fights or make life miserable for other users. They have a process? They have backlogs, but I'm not so sure about a process. Nominating stuff over there is pretty simple. There's a link in the toolbox at the side of the page (assuming you use monobook anyway) which brings up a twinklematic style javascripty doodad which does all the work. Usually stuff uploaded to Commons is much better done than this dross that Multichill's bot has found. Your regular movers-to-Commons are really pretty hot, but this is just random stuff that has been lying around unremarked. Cheers, Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:36, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Question: You deleted a page recently for Robert A Lawton His page had been created because he was referenced on another wikipedia page (Charles de Lauzirika). When Lawton's page was originally created, there were 6 references to outside sources including imdb, The Hollywood Reporter, a newspaper article and Thestreet.com all of which included references to, or quotes from, Lawton. Arent those two elements enough to justify the page....(being referenced on another, "qualified" wikipedia article & being quoted or referenced in many different outside sources)? If so, was it just that the formatting (or something else) was wrong? thanks Kylestafford (talk) 03:23, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article is this one. It merely quotes him as an analyst, I don't think that denotes notability. If you have a concern that this was deleted incorrectly then please take it to deletion review. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 03:27, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That you give me some pointers or tips as to what my writers can do to make it stick? I had some people working very hard on what you deleted. Hi Jason, well I want to be clear that it's nothing personal. I also think I need to make it clear that this is not a social networking site, but an encyclopedia, and I don't have all that much influence even if I do have admin rights. I think it might want to review Wikipedia:Notability (music), if you can satisfy all or most of the criteria there then you would probably be able to have a subject that can "stick". - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 04:06, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are trolling and trying to cause trouble!

I suggest you stop right now [2], before you esceltae something mundane onto something quite extraordinary. Oh and you know where you can put your olive branch don't you?  Giano  08:13, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eh? What, I'm commenting on an article you are editing, this is true. But I see that other editors have some ideas. Now, do you have an issue with incorporating their input or discussing their suggestions? You did mention on Wikipedia:Incivility blocks that you wanted some help from an admin with the article, now I decided to have a look what was going on and I'm commenting as a regular editor. I won't be using my admin rights to take over or cause trouble, but I think that there have been some fairly reasonable suggestions, so I don't really feel there is an issue with a bit of discussion. I mean, an editor would like to put in the hard yards to get this to FA status, I don't think they should feel disheartened because of a disagreement with yourself. You both want a great article, so what is the issue? - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 08:22, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to disengage from you, and follow some wise advice of not feeding the trolls. I mistakenly asked Chillum for some help, that wil never happen again. You have no interest in this subject, I am not entering speedy writing competitions or entering into an architectural collaboration with you - is that quite clear? I am deepy dissapointed that, my instincts concerning you were 100% correct. However, that can't be helped. Now go and resume your new found interest in architecture. I will feed you no longer.  Giano  08:30, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mistakenly asked for some help? How on earth does that happen? But if you want to disengage from me, that's fine. However, I have some suggestions for that article and actually I'm pretty interested. I like working on all sorts of articles, this sounds like an interesting challenge to me. I've been doing a lot of wikignoming and admin work for various reasons, and so I'd like to get back into the swing of things, and I've been looking for something to work on. Your challenge was to work on content, and I agree totally, so that's what I'm going to do. When I get some time I'm going to do some research at the State Library of NSW and see what info I can find to improve it. I'd love it if you would collaborate with me, your expertise on such matters is impressive and I've always been a fan of your work. Frankly, I don’t understand why you have deleted the entry for this relatively small albeit notable think-tank: maybe you could have recommended some improvements e.g. adding footnotes and backing notability with legitimates links/refs ...etc.

Deleting the entry brutally isn’t very constructive! And I’m not sure it’s a very ethical way of using your admin authority

For you information: 1. The Canadian European Economic Council is listed as a leading economic think-tank by George Mason University and the University of Toronto

2. Its authors are regularly published in reviews such as The “Revue Analyse Financière”, France’s leading financial and economic research journal, Al-Nahar, one of the most widely circulated newspapers in the MENA area …. etc.

3. The Canadian European Economic Council is a regular contributor to Euromoney’s Country Risk Index- a key macroeconomic tool widely used by institutional investors and economic forecasters across Europe and Asia

Maybe you could reconsider your harsh decision ...

Cordially,

Moorehaus —Preceding undated comment added 17:02, 12 February 2010 (UTC).[reply]

I'm afraid that this was a collective decision made by a number of Wikipedians during a previous deletion discussion and I was just applying site policy by redeleting it. If you are not happy with this previous deletion discussion then we have an "appeals" area you might like to consider, which is deletion review. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 17:21, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I fully agree with Moorehaus: the textual content of the entry in question has changed considerably e.g. more references, footnotes..., therefore your "previous deletion" reasoning doesn't apply entirely. In all honesty, you should have allowed the contributor(s) to improve the content before, and, AS A LAST RESORT, if need be, START A NEW DELETION DISCUSSION based on the current content. What you did isn't very fair. <Alistair> from Normandy
That's not the process. If you want an article that was deleted on AFD to be restored, then you need to take it to WP:DRV. I'm sorry you think it isn't fair, but that's the general procedure. If you would like to change the process, then by all means start a discussion on WT:AFD. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:48, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"under cc-by-sa"

Hi, you removed a speedy delete copyvio tag here with the edit summary "under cc-by-sa". Could you please explain what you mean by that? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:08, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. If you visit the website that was cited as the copyright violation source you will notice right down the bottom of the page that they have licensed their work as CC-by-SA. You may also want to review their web page that they have put together giving Wikipedia full rights to their material - this URL is at http://cinelasamericas.org/wikipedia
Does this answer the question? - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 17:24, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it does. I'll remove the speedy and copyvio tag immediately, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:32, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Shawn. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 17:35, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, just to be clear, I did visit the website before removing the tag and bothering you: I just couldn't find the relevant text, for some reason. I was very interested that they have a usage policy page just for us: http://cinelasamericas.org/wikipedia. I've never seen this before. Have you? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:38, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No bother :-) I'm glad that someone is noticing that db-copyvio tags are being removed! They are quite keen for their article to be on Wikipedia. If you review the talk page you will notice that they asked how they could confirm that they give us CC-by-SA rights to their material. I think they were so concerned about the speedy tag that they wanted to make it crystal clear we could use their material. Now if only all organizations would do the same! :-) I was actually the one who suggested they contact the OTRS volunteers to clarify the permissions status, which they evidently did. Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 17:41, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Incidentally, FYI, it's not "CC-by-SA" but "CC-BY-SA". The letters "BY" are not a connector between "CC" and "SA", it's one of the elements in the license Creative Commons-Attribution-Share Alike. Beyond My Ken (talk) 15:29, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy Tbsdy. I had to pull out of the Wikipedia: Incivility blocks discussions, as I've got my attentions on two other policy related topics (which I've been involved with longer). Spreading myself out too thin, can be overly confusing for myself & distractive, concerning my Wiki-personality. I'll be watching from time to time though, so good luck. Indents

Indents do sometimes need to be adjusted to clarify the history of a thread, and I doubt anyone has a problem with it done openly. The trouble was, you changed indents at the same time as making a comment, and left no explanation of the changes you made. It's best to fix the indents without making any other comments, and to explain either in a small comment in the thread or in an edit summary. DuncanHill (talk) 16:21, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are being absurd. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 16:22, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just trying to help someone who doesn't seem to understand the etiquette of discussion threads. If you explain changes you make to indentation or the order of comments in a thread, it helps other editors to understand what is going on. This helps to reduce drama and promote a collegiate atmosphere. If you choose to make unexplained changes, and persistently fail to make use of the edit summary field, it is likely that others will misunderstand or mistrust your actions. DuncanHill (talk) 16:27, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As you seem to be pushing a certain point on me, allow me to refer you to WP:TPO.
I agree that it was not wise to correct your spelling error, though why you think it dishonest I have no idea. But I agree not to do this again. I think that this is rather the end of this conversation. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 16:30, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As the material you quote directly supports what I was saying I agree there is little point continuing the discussion. DuncanHill (talk) 16:37, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to continue, then let's. You have accused me of dishonesty when I merely corrected a very small typo that anyone could have made. This is a direct attack on my character. There was nothing dishonest about it, and I do not appreciate you characterizing me this way. I pride myself in my honesty in all areas, and for you to say that I am a dishonest person is rude and mean. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 16:40, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Changing another person's signed comments, withour request, explanation, or apology at the time, strikes me as dishonest. It is "putting words in someone's mouth". To say that a single act is dishonest is not to say that a person is dishonest. I do not define you by a single edit, and I don't judge you on it either. You apologized, and I thank you for that. DuncanHill (talk) 16:46, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The act was not dishonest at all, it was merely done in good faith. I do not appreciate the way you characterize my editing on Wikipedia. Instead, you decided that you would come down like a ton of bricks on me. Was this a wise thing to do? Do you not think that had you calmly said "Please do not correct my typos, as I do not believe that it accurately reflects my comments" that you might have done better? Instead, you called me dishonest. Had you been more calm then I would have apologised anyway, and you would have avoided any conflict. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 16:49, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is entirely possible for a dishonest act to result from good faith and good intentions, and I did not call you dishonest, I was commenting on the edit - one edit, not "characterizing your edits on Wikipedia". I will say though, that you seem to have an amazing ability to attract drama, disagreement and incivility. DuncanHill (talk) 16:56, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My goodness, in terms of drama you are the one who accused me of dishonesty because I fixed a typo in your talk page message. That's a capital offence if ever I've seen one. As for your argument, I'm afraid that if you make a good faith typo fix, there is no way that it's dishonest. It is not dishonest to have done this if you did it in good faith. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 16:59, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't accuse you of dishonesty, I said the action was dishonest. I'm sorry you don't understand the difference. DuncanHill (talk) 17:14, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The action is performed by the man. The act of correcting a typo does not happen all by itself, there must be intent behind the act. You seem overly worried about appearance and form, so if you want to be this precise then I think you should probably take this into account. The act of correcting this typo was really an extremely minor thing to have done, in fact there was no need to have warned me so strongly. I have apologised for offending you, but I refuse to submit to your assertion that the edit was dishonest. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 17:20, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I hesitate to chip in, but as I have crossed swords with Tbsdy on a retrospective text change in an AfD (er, I don't have the diff to hand so I apologise in advance if relying on my memory is a poor decision...), I would point to WP:RTP. My understanding is that you can pretty much do what you will with respect to reformatting and text deletion/archiving the comments of others, however should your edit be likely to change the meaning of the edits of others then the guidance is not to do it and if another editor objects, then there is no choice but to undo the re-factoring. In this instance, compliance with RTP means that one can assume good intentions but such minor reformatting must be reversed as an objection has been made, the nature, validity or motivation of such objections is irrelevant. Ash (talk) 17:49, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am willing to be corrected (though Ash, do you have my talk page on your watchlist?!? you seem to see some mighty obscure threads here... not that I mind terribly much I suppose), but can you point me directly to this policy? This seems rather silly though, honestly I corrected the most minor typo you could imagine and all of a sudden I have two editors commenting, one of whom has accused me of dishonesty, of all things! - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 17:58, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hold on... I just saw the link. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 17:58, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's fair enough. I thought that an apology would be enough, but the how-to guide says differently. Of course, it mentions that this only applies if good faith is lacking in the thread, so from this I suppose that I am to understand that there was an assumption that my edit was done in bad faith and for some nefarious reason. That was a heavily trafficked thread I'm afraid so there were a lot of edit conflicts going on. That's one reason I did my edits in one edit, not many. Far less disruptive. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 18:00, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
you might like to read WP:ES as well "It is considered good practice to always provide an edit summary, but it is especially important when reverting the actions of other editors, or if you delete any text; otherwise, people may question your motives for the edit.
Accurate summaries help other editors decide whether it is worthwhile for them to check a change, and to understand it if they choose to check it. Summaries are less essential for "minor changes", but a summary like "fixed spelling" is helpful even then." DuncanHill (talk) 18:03, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. Duncan, how descriptive do you think that the single word "reply" is when you are responding to a comment on a talk page? - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 18:05, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It tells people on their watchlist that my edit was a reply, and not a change of indent, move of comments, or new point. I had assumed good faith, and that you were unfamiliar with the guidance on edit summaries, so I suggested you read it, and gave you a link. I apologise for doing that. On WP and conflict

Before I start: I've posted on the pages of a few editors with whom you are currently in conflict, but please don't take that as partisanship. I try to like everyone until they kick me directly in my behind; and despite the near-impossibility of missing such a wide target, I've only received a couple of boot-prints on the hiney. I especially try to talk informally with users whose real-world views I disagree with, mostly because I simply can't do it in real life and would run a serious risk of living in an echo-chamber if I didn't try to do it here. (I tried it once on Facebook, with the people I went to grade-school with.....Yeah. Not gonna do that again. Apparently I need my opposite-view chat partner to be someone with whom I have no fraught emotional history....) So this isn't some Wiki-political attempt at social climbing, double-agency, or anything else really. I guess I'm largely here to ask: How are you doing? I noticed on a couple of pages your references to suffering from depression; that lovely little nightmare is a part of my life as well, and I've noticed that if it sometimes doesn't get WORSE when I'm in multiple conflicts (no matter where), it certainly doesn't IMPROVE. And you seem to be in.....yeah, I'd call it "quite a bit" of conflict. Honestly, I don't pretend to understand where it all comes from--I've had a fairly craptacular RL week, and so I had missed the genesis of most of the drama; suddenly this morning I logged on and the whole AN-AN/I axis was calling for your head, or calling for the heads of those who were calling for your head. (And all I'd wanted to call for was some breakfast.) I haven't done the intensive study of diffs, old grudges, and who-said-what-to-whom's required of a truly EXPERT Wiki-dramaticist, and frankly I have no intent of doing so--again, since I don't feel the imprint of any Doc Martens below my tailbone, I can assume that no one has kicked ME recently, and so I'm comfortable remaining on good/decent/civil terms with almost everyone. But I do worry that all this howling and yowling re: the propriety of you keeping your scalp has maybe not had the best effect on you just as a human being, and as such I just wanted to say: Keep your chin up. It's a website; granted, an important one, but "important" for a website is.....well, that's a low-ish bar, ya know? Definitely not worth sacrificing even a speck of your equilibrium (...contentment, functionality, happiness, whatever...) over. You've got an actual real life--how old is your son now?--so don't let some goofy Wikipedia-conflict upscuttle you too badly. I mean, if you want it to go away, just....I dunno, kinda slow your roll on the whole adminning thing--but if you don't want to do that either, then I guess just try not to take it to heart too much.

Now I am going to go eat bagels and watch crappy TV. Take care of yourself, okay? GJC 00:22, 14 February 2010 (UTC) (Edited: holy hell, what kind of formatting atrocity did I just perpetrate there? Maybe a nap is in order here.) GJC 00:24, 14 February 2010 (UTC) [reply]

LOL! You know I read that entire paragraph and I understood every word of it. That is the biggest paragraph I've ever parsed :-)
I'm OK, I think I've managed to keep my head but for some unknown reason I managed to stay up all night, and my dad and my brother just came over from ages away and I dug holes and mowed my lawn and tried to work out if my house is about to fall down around my ears. Sadly, I still don't know!
It's been a total roller coaster for me. When the last ban mobile rolled around, I actually sat back and laughed at the ridiculousness of it all - this made me feel better, though not for the poor sucker who was hounded out of one of Giano's articles. The farce became better when someone got upset that I corrected a typo on one of their talk messages. Apparently I was a perpetuator of dishonest edits, however because I did this good faith and with good intentions this doesn't make me a dishonest editor. I know, you try working that one out also - I sent a number of fruitless talk page messages to him, but he eventually decided I was a troll and it was beneath his dignity to respond any further. Along the way I discovered that my talk page seems to have a cast of thousands of watchers, and that there is someone called TungstenCarbide who is a banned sock puppet who pops up every now and again to hurl abuse at me, right before I block them to oblivion and roll back their edits.
My depression is under control really, which is surprising given a total lack of sleep last night. It's partly to do with the medication I take, which in some ways gives me the beautiful ability now of carrying out do-not-give-a-fuckism. Thich means that when people want to ban me from articles I've made a good faith attempt at reviewing - and where I made my intentions known that I'm willing to research it - I sort of don't care. It's a rather freeing and liberating feeling. What's nice is that their many insults are like water off a ducks back really - so when Giano, et al. tell me I'm a liar I think "that's nice, but you're wrong" and go right back to the point again. I've actually found that the politer and friendlier I am, the more they hate me and the angrier they get, which I find a bit unusual. I've also noticed that when I stay on point, they believe I'm trying some sort of smokescreen and I'm trying to outplay them in some way. It's really all quite absurd, and I frequently shake my head at the whole shenanigans. The only disturbing moment was when Giano suggested I shove an olive branch up my arse, which I'll probably take a pass on but if some people enjoy this sort of thing I guess each to their own?
The issue that occured here was I was discussing incivility blocks and Giano as usual made his normal negative entrance into the thread causing the usual confusion and discord. However, this time he was attacking Chillum for not being as great an editor as he, but decided to ask admins to review what he called an edit war on Blenheim Palace. Of course, that always gets my interest, so I had a look and I found that there wasn't much to really be concerned about, other than him picking on an editor who had the temerity to try to make changes to his article, which Giano is modifying in his user space. I read through the article, and I have to say my interest was piqued, so I started by making some suggestions, and eventually noted that I would actually be interested in doing some research. To this I was told I couldn't as Giano had no intention of letting my edits stick because his rewrite is the only one that will be allowed. I sort of objected to this, thinking this was really an ownership issue but I noted that I would be happy to work with him. At this point he noted that this will never happen and that my general level of incompetence was such that I could never add anything.
As it turns out, a bounty had been offered before I had even noticed Giano mention the article. Later when Giano had sufficiently harangued and intimidated that editor he removed the bounty, which I readded as it was still current. He of course reverted the bounty template again, saying it made the page look "cluttered", so I started a thread asking why it was being removed, to which Jeni responded and explained that she had put the template back again.
Interestingly, some time later Unitanode came along from nowhere and this time removed the talk page history template and the bounty template, with the explanation that it made the article look "cluttered". This was really news to me as most articles that have been to FARC have the article history template. Of course, this was reverted again by Jeni, who put them both back, but Unitanode persevered and this time only removed the bounty board notice, which I reverted again. He of course reverted one last time, but this time he accused the bounty editor of violating POINT and self-aggrandizing by adding the template. When I attempted to ask him on his talk page why he thought this, he basically told me to go away and blanked the thread. So I took it to ANI, as there's not much you can do when this sort of thing occurs except do this. I noted that I'd discussed it with him directly and asked someone to comment as I wasn't sure whether bounty board templates should be removed like this. Of course I got a lot of grief from Unitanode, but I was expecting this. Soon, Equazcion came around demanding why I hadn't tried direct discussion with the editor, so I pointed out I had and that he'd blanked the page. I suppose I forgot to tell Equazcion that in the first few sentences I had actually clearly stated that I'd tried direct discussion on his user talk page, but who bothers reading the first few sentences of issues on ANI anyway? Far too boring. However, the diff to the blanking gave him some pause, but rather than make a decision on ANI (oddly, I don't believe he's an admin...) he archived the thread and told me to take it to the talk page. As this pretty much guaranteed that an edit war would occur I undid the archiving and noted what was going on. Eventually Equazcion decided that perhaps it might be a good idea to look into what was going on, and found himself somewhat surprised to find that I actually had a point and that there was no good reason why the template had been removed. He demanded it's restoration, to which Unitanode claimed the issue with the template was that it used an image of a pirate, and this made the template "cluttered". He tried to compromise by adding a collapse box around the bounty template, and hid it automatically, but Equazcion was having none of this and demanded that it be shown. Fair enough I thought, finally some sanity - this was what I was saying all along. I further pointed out that the boxes have a standard layout that is different in width and style to a collapse box, and in fact the collapse box made the article look even more cluttered.
Following so far? Well, interestingly Unitanode decided that it was perhaps a good idea to restore the bounty box, and so added it further down the page. Equazcion claimed a fair victory for all right minded men and that we had peace within our time, however I pointed out that the box had been removed because Unitanode had accused the bounty editor of gross disruption to make a point, self-aggrandizement and clutter of the talk page, all of which he had just proven false by readding the template. Apparently this made me a very tendentious editor, so at this point it was time to teach tbsdy a real lesson.
Three ANI threads later about either myself or Giano (the third of which was filed by someone who said that apparently I had been disruptive, but when pressed wasn't able to say where) there were still disputes occuring and so I thought that it might be best to make a compromise. This was roundly rejected, apparently because the word "compromise" in certain quarters means don't edit on the article at all and give in to all demands Giano might make. Given that Giano has a tendency to use peacock terms with gay abandon and isn't particularly crash hot on referencing, I noted that I could help here after he completed his userspace change. After quite a bit of argument, mainly stirred up by Equazcion and Unitanode, it was proposed on the talk page that an interaction ban with Giano be voted on along with an outright ban on the article be had.
When I objected, they filed it on Talk:Blenheim Palace anyway. Of course I thought this a bit strange so never having had this done to me before I noted what was going on on WP:AN and WP:AN/I, not feeling certain which board would be the best venue. Apparently this is admin forum shopping, and I am a coward and drama queen for going to these venues, which is fair enough I suppose given that they wanted to ban me from a part of Wikipedia that I had been trying to improve. It appears that is, of course, what one does these days. I suppose there is a sort of sadistic logic behind it all, but I am not a clever enough man to work it out and I get confused easily, so I rather not think about the whys and wherefores of this issue.
Well, to cut a long story short, the thread was moved to WP:AN, and after it was divided into small and arbitrary sections it appears that nobody had any idea why Equazcion or Unitanode wanted me banned from the article. The sections made things worse, as discussions were going on about unrelated issues in those sections, so I decided to remove the sections. I then made a suggestion that the issue is that the summary of the matter was really the root cause of this confusion, as unless you had been following the drama you would not have known what on earth I was being banned for. Of course I was reverted by Equazcion who refused to write a better summary, so confusion continued to reign supreme until a surprised and somewhat stunned NuclearWarfare, who had been following the other 4 threads previous on ANI, decided to archive the thread completely and tell everyone to take a timeout.
For this I was accused by Unitanode of deliberately "muddying the waters" and sowing so much confusion nobody knew what going on, and of course his new found ally Equazcion was more than happy to pile on.
However, on a brighter note - my baby boy Matthew is extremely cute, small and lovable. So is my little toddler Emily, so I take solace in the warm love of my wife and children. This makes it easier to remember that this is just a website. This, combined with the medication, makes life so much easier. Certainly it has been difficult previously for me, and in fact the burnout that made me scramble my old account password was, in fact, largely caused by my severe depressive attacks. I am happy that I can now edit on Wikipedia again, and that there are still really good people like GoodDay, Ludwigs, yourself, NW, and a whole host of other folks that are reasonable, bright, funny and just a plain pleasure to be around. :-)
Does my ramble make sense? Certainly it feels cathartic to type it all out :-) - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 02:41, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I actually READ this last night. However, attempting to reply, I was impeded by total exhaustion, of the sort that was manifesting itself by a total inability to type without falling asleep mid-word. The result was very much in the realm of "cat-like typing detected" and was able to be read only by a non-human audience. (I've written e-mails in this state before--oddly, it has nothing to do with intoxicants of any kind. When my batteries die, they die suddenly and sharply; the best simile I've got is this: it's like a small child who insists "But I'm not tired!!" over and over; then suddenly pauses, yawns once, and falls asleep, in the process performing a perfect face-plant into their ice-cream dish.) Now, at the moment, though I could probably manage a few good sentences, I'm not sufficiently high-functioning enough to respond to that very long, serious, and well-written message in an appropriate way....but tomorrow will be another day. I just wanted to acknowledge that yes, I have read it, and yes, I do plan to reply. Now I must go get a dish of ice-cream. (Turns out French vanilla is a great moisturizer--though once a week I try rocky road, as it's a good exfoliant.) GJC 04:09, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chris-Carol Bremer

Hello, Chris. Since you're the Chris expert I thought I'd ask you this question. While fine-tuning the alphabetization of that article I ran across one name I'm not sure where to alphabetize. Chris-Carol Bremer is currently listed with the B's but that seems like a very unusual name. It seems unlikely that his first name is "Chris-Carol". I would expect the hyphen to be between Carol and Bremer. Looking for reliable sources, I came across CNN, which uses "Chris-Carol Bremer", ABC which uses "Chris Carol-Bremer" and the BBC which drops the hyphen entirely for "Chris Carol Bremer". Do you have any idea where the hyphen belongs and whether or not his article should be renamed? 152.16.59.102 (talk) 02:50, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

urgh... wow, that's odd... I need to get some shuteye, let me get back to you! - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:37, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think that the BBC (and the ABC in Australia) is wrong here. I found the following news sources that shows that German news media know him as Chris-Carol Bremer:
I'm hoping this is enough :-) Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 07:30, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thank you. Maybe I'm the one who should be getting the shut-eye. I don't speak German but it really should have occurred to me to check German sources. It seems so obvious in retrospect. Well, thank you. Now that won't bug me any more.  :) 152.16.59.102 (talk) 08:07, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all... I was stumped for a good hour or so on how to verify the spelling, I only thought of the German sources recently. :-) Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 08:21, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. did you want to work on my article in my namespace? I intend to do a deletion merge of the history, so you would be attributed correctly, and we probably wouldn't step on each other's toes. Interested? - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 08:23, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll work on it when I can. I'm only online on weekend nights and my time here can be pretty random. I'll just check when I get on and see if you're editing it. If you are, then I'll default to RC Patrol to avoid edit conflicts. If you're not actively editing it, then I'll see what I can help with. In other words, yes, I'd love to help but I can't guarantee an active role. 152.16.59.102 (talk) 08:31, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Of course! That's not an issue at all, with all the drama recently of people trying to ban me from talk and article pages, etc. I suspect that I'll be up to my neck in AN threads. It's not really something that I was expecting when I came back, but I suppose it goes with the territory. I'll be working on it when I have a chance, but I also may be tied up, though for entirely different reasons. Defending myself from bans is time consuming work! - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 08:34, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(unindent) Yes, I've been following some of that - happened across it while checking your edits concerning Chris. My unsolicited two cents - just walk away from it. Not the project! Wikipedia can definitely use your contributions. But these areas... ten years from now it just isn't going to matter, and right now it is only distracting you from constructive work. The way I've always heard it put is "Choose your battles big enough to matter, but small enough to win." Unfortunately, this isn't either of those things. LessHeard vanU had some good advice. The first half of that thread is worthy of re-reading. Take care, and take heart. Now, get back to work!  :) 152.16.59.102 (talk) 08:59, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks dude. I think it best for me to stay away from the article, but I would indeed like to see if I can assist in editing it after Giano is done with his revision. It would be fairly easy for me to stay away, but I rarely make the easy decision, instead I try to make the right and just decision. But regardless, I have been congnizant of many of the comments saying to stay away, and in fact I posted a compromise suggestion, right before they tried to ban me.
For the time being I'll be working on the Chris article though :-) Thanks for your kind works and sage advise! I suspect that I will be the subject of a thread in the next 24 hours, however. Regardless, in 24 hours I will be asking again on that talk page where I have been disruptive and why I cannot edit the article in the future. If they decide to run another article ban, then so be it and I'll bow to general consensus, so long as the debate is fair to all parties. If NW runs it, then I'm sure it will be. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 09:03, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your assessment of NW. I wish you the best. I've got some paperwork to do IRL if I want to keep my job but I'll be back tonight. I'll see you then. 152.16.59.102 (talk) 09:12, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Financial Disclosures

I'm not sure how you can say my question was out of order when we have this behavioural guideline: [5] The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 13:18, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I say this because you are effectively asking him to out himself. The two policies conflict, but I rather think the outing policy trumps the COI policy, others may disagree. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 03:03, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of proposed topic/interaction ban on Tbsdy

See here for the proposal. Since you're an involved party I thought you should know. Thanks. Equazcion (talk) 23:50, 14 Feb 2010 (UTC)

Indeed - not only am I an involved party but I am the subject of the ban proposal. Understatement of the year. I have made a few comments but have no wish to involve myself in the proposed ban any further. I will bow to what the community decides. I am sorry that you feel such that you could not even wait for 24 hours before you proposed the ban again, but I suppose that's the way it goes. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 03:01, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did indeed wait over 24 hours. The request to wait was made about 21:30, 13 Feb, and my proposal at AN was posted just shy of 0:00, 15 Feb. Equazcion (talk) 03:31, 15 Feb 2010 (UTC)
Yet you decided not to use normal dispute resolution procedures. You'll have to excuse me if I'm less than impressed. I do indeed feel like I'm being lynched. That's my perspective, this might not be the case and I acknowledge this. Feelings are often not reality; sometimes they are. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 03:50, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
... :) Yes that's about the response I expected. Rather than admit you were actually wrong about the thing you complained about, you don't even acknowledge it and instead find something new to complain about. Sorry for your feelings on the matter, but it's behavior like this that's causing problems. Note that I was not involved with you or anyone else in this dispute prior to yesterday, and yet I came in and have concluded that your behavior needs tweaking. Coupled with the fact that so many others feel the same way, you should indeed examine your feelings, and consider the possibility that they are in fact not reality. Equazcion (talk) 04:07, 15 Feb 2010 (UTC)
I appreciate your feedback and opinion and will take this into consideration. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 04:10, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hang about... are you the same editor who I got into a dispute involving whether trivia should be on Wikipedia or not? I've been racking my brains for ages because I know I've had disputes with you in the past. For the life of me I couldn't remember, until it just came back to me now! Surely this can't be the same editor... - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 09:15, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Appealing to Jimbo

Well, I did it, concerning the deletion of unreferenced BLPs, and Jimbo agreed with me. [6]. PeterbrownDancin (talk) 03:33, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I never said it won't work, I just said it rarely does. For a BLP discussion, of course that's something he's interested in, and this was a sensible and reasonable point to have raised :-) However, if I'm unhappy that Joe's Widget Factory got deleted, I doubt Jimbo will much care and I'm fairly certain it will just look like I'm attempting to get around community discussion. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 03:52, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of "The Bucks - Dancin' to the Ceili Band"

Hi.I just tried to "hangon" this one, but it was already gone. It's an obscure album involving several well-known musicians, but not under their name and hard to find info about anywere, that's why i created it (most of the principal artists have wikipedia pages, but the album is lacking in their discogs, which was my next step.)

Any chance to restore it?

Notneils (talk) 06:38, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh... is there verifiable and reliable evidence that the artists collaborated on this album? I didn't see anything, so per WP:NALBUMS I deleted it. Perhaps I was wrong, I can restore if you can give me the references, but I will need to take to AFD if the album is obscure. Alternatively, if you are still looking for the references it might be worthwhile taking this to WP:DRV and note the sources in DRV so that the article can be restored. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:43, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, i got it from the liner notes. Several members are named in the review i linked. And i footnoted Ron Kavana talking about the experience, i'm not sure what else? The allmusic guide entry is blank. I could link/footnote any number of reviews/fan pages, but they're hardly "official". That's why i was creating the page - lack of complete info!

Restoring isn't too important, i'd be happy to re-create the page, or do a "The Bucks" one instead, with album details, but only if it's not gonna get deleted again!

Cheers.

Notneils (talk) 06:50, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That might actually be a better idea, as that's the general suggestion in the notability guideline. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 07:09, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done & done. you know how i make it so searches for the album title will point to the band page? i know i've seen the code somwhere before but now i can't find it!

Yeah, it's dancin' to the ceili band though were it up to me i'd also do dancing to the ceili band, and i'd like 'em to go to "the bucks" .

Hi, could you please send me by email the content of this article you deleted? I want to write at least a stub about this person and this would help me to do so. Regards.--Kimdime (talk) 12:50, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not emailing you a copy of that article - it was deleted because it was a copyright violation. I also can't give you the source, per WP:BEANS. Sorry. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 12:53, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I Know that, I was the one signaling that this article was a Copyvio:) Though, not everything in the article was copy/pasted as I mentioned in the discussion page of the article Talk:namık Kemal. But it seems that you didn't read it even if I asked in my edit comment of the article to check the discussion. My conclusion regarding your admin job is that you shouldn't go that fast. Regards--Kimdime (talk) 13:16, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I actually went through the whole revision but I really couldn't see much that was not a copyright violation. The very first edit, sadly, was a violation! - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:18, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK whatever, a last thing, when you state "I also can't give you the source, per WP:BEANS." it seems to me pretty ridiculous. First of all, the source is stated into the deletion log, and then, if you follow seriously this strategy, you should delete any reference or external link to an article, because who knows? Maybe someone is gonna use it for a copyvio? Assuming good faith is the only reasonable thing to do. Regards--Kimdime (talk) 13:32, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
NB, don't forget to delete the talk page.--Kimdime (talk) 13:37, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Crap, I forgot about the hyperlink. Yeah, when you say it that way it's fairly ridiculous. But are you seriously asking me to delve through all the history of that article just to get one revision? Oh all right. Let me try. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:40, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, given that I had to go through the entire history, I've just restored the revisions that weren't copyright violations. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:45, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! this is what I though, not every version was copyvio. By the way, do you have a better template than the one I used to signal this article? One which would state that the article should be cleaned and not deleted totally? Regards.--Kimdime (talk) 13:53, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Elliot Fletcher Article

I'd like to know why this article was deleted without the chance for a proper discussion of it's notability. It had been created less then 3 hours(I believe) before it was deleted and at the time of deletion there was a discussion going on about it's notability. A discussion to which there had been no resolution yet and a discussion in which (if i recall correctly) you had not participated in. The mission of the Wikimedia Foundation is "to empower and engage people" and I don't understand how this can be accomplished when admin's disregard on-going discussions and delete articles in such a haphazard manner. Your explanation will be appreciated.Dancer0889 (talk) 13:08, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh. If this becomes something that causes Qld State government or Department of Education policy to change, and if more information comes out in the police investigation that is signficant, then tell me. Until then, it stays deleted. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:12, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but that doesn't really answer the question. I'm not here to cause trouble but what was the point in me participating in the discussion if it wasn't going to be given the chance to run it's course. I also would have thought, seeing as one of the suggestions was it's integration into another article, that this article did not deserve immediate removal and there should have been a chance for it to be migrated. This is the sort of discussion we could be having in the relevant place(articles discussion page) if it had not been deleted.Dancer0889 (talk) 13:33, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Look, you are new here (you haven't signed your name - use ~~~~). If you disagree with my decision, then please take this to deletion review. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:34, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Look, I know you are trying to help, but knowing Bish as I do, I suspect that if she wanted me to clear off, she'd have said it. Would you please, please stop interfering here? I am trying to make amends with Bishonen, who I had a long history with. If Bish wants me to go, then she will and I will respect her wishes.
