A past Assistant Adjutant General was Brigadier General Frank Rezac, a distinguished graduate of what is now Peoria Notre Dame High School in Peoria, Illinois.

The Illinois Air National Guard is the subordinate air force element of the Illinois National Guard. It is located in the state of Illinois.

The 183d Fighter Wing will lose their F-16 aircraft as a result of the DOD's 2005 BRAC (base re-alignment and closing); however, the base will remain open, serving as a maintenance depot for the F-16 aircraft engine.
