A

Angola

• MSTelcom is deploying a nationwide project at 2.5 GHz. About 60% of Luanda is covered. Data and voice over IP are among the services to be supplied to the end-users.

Armenia

• Cornet launched a nationwide network in Yerevan and 18 biggest cities of Armenia. It uses 802.16e protocol in the 3.6-3.8 GHz frequency diapason.

Australia

• Adam Internet operates a Fixed WiMAX network in the Metropolitan area of Adelaide, South Australia in the 5.0Ghz band. Speeds up to 12mbps are achievable.
• Agile Communications operates Fixed WiMAX networks in the Coorong, Yorke Peninsula, and Riverlands areas of South Australia, retailed by partner ISP Internode.
• VividWireless operates a Mobile WiMAX network throughout Perth, Australia in the 2.3Ghz band. Speeds of up to 20mbps are currently achievable.

Bahrain

• Zain Covers the Kingdom of Bahrain and has used WiMAX for High Speed Internet under the product "Zain@Home".
• menatelecom also covers the Kingdom of Bahrain and begun using mobile 802.16e WiMAX on 24 Nov 2008 for High Speed Internet under the product "Switch&Go".

Bangladesh

• AGNI A Public Limited Company providing Internet Access in Bangladesh since 1995. Launched Pre-WiMAX in 2006. Now deploying Fixed WiMAX on 3.5 GHz Band. DSE-CSE: AGNISYSL
• BanglaLion BanglaLion Communications Ltd using WiMAX standard 802.16e and onward revisions only. It allows VoIP services as well.
• QUBEE Launched wireless broadband internet services for residential and business customers in Dhaka in October 2009.

Barbados

• TeleBarbados uses WiMAX to cover most of the island of Barbados in partnership with its subsidiary Freemotion.

Belgium

• Clearwire Covers mainly Brussels.

Bolivia

• Max Telecom Ltd. holds a class A license in the 3.5 GHz band (2 x 21 MHz) and has deployed nation-wide network moving towards mobile WiMAX technology
• TransTelecom holds a class A license in the 3.5 GHz band (2 x 21 MHz) and has deployed a national WiMAX network in Bulgaria moving towards mobile WiMAX technology
• Nexcom Bulgaria has deployed a national WiMAX network in Bulgaria.

Cameroon

• Ringo Provides WiMAX-based internet services in four major cities in Cameroon. With plans to expand.

Canada

• Bell Canada, and Rogers Communications offer a shared WiMax network. Their service uses a Motorola RSU2510 Modem.
• Xplornet Internet Services provides WiMAX-based internet services to rural customers across Canada with speeds up to 5 Mbit/s. Xplornet's provided WiMAX service operates on the 3.5 GHz registered private frequency.
• Sogetel offer WiMAX connection for Nicolet-Yamaska and St-Hyacinthe (MRC Maskoutain) in Quebec.
• Craig Wireless is and/or will be offering 2.5GHz WiMAX to Vancouver BC, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
• Primus Canada and Mipps Inc. are now (May'07) jointly conducting WiMAX IEEE 802.16e-2005 (3.5 GHz) trials in Hamilton, Ontario, using Alcatel-Lucent's new WiMAX equipment
• Picanoc.net is offering services in Lac-Ste-Marie, QC
• MDS Wireless owns and operates one of the largest WiMAX networks in Southern Ontario providing internet services to residential and business users.
• MetroBridge Networks serves businesses in British Columbia with connections up to 3 Mbit/s with >7500 km² of coverage area.

Cayman Islands

• Digicel has deployed 802.16d & 802.16e technology for its Digicel Broadband solution.

Colombia

• In July 2006 Orbitel launched in Cali the first WiMAX network of Colombia.
• In January 20, 2006, Colombian company Telecom launched a PRE-WiMAX network in Bucaramanga. Orbitel, ETB and Telecom hold 3.5 GHz licences for the entire country. Nowadays other cities with WiMAX are Cali, Bogotá, Cúcuta, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellín.

Congo

• Elix has deployed a citywide WiMAX network in the city of Kinshasa, using licensed spectrum at 3.5 GHz.

Congo, Democratic Republic of

• GLNet operates a citywide 802.16d Fixed WiMAX network in the city of Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, using the licensed spectrum of 3.5 GHz.

Costa Rica

• Radiografica Costarricense S.A. (RACSA, a part of the state owned Grupo ICE) started offering the service on the second week of 2008.

Croatia

• Novi-net offers WiMAX in Međimurje county, Dubrovnik telekom in Dubrovnik
• Optima Telekom have operating WiMAX with Siemens equipment in Osijek, Rijeka, Split, Cakovec, Opatija, Valpovo and Djakovo but getting out of business.
• WiMAX Telecom started to build network with Alcatel-Lucent equipment.3.5 GHz frequencies .
• OiV just get licences.

D

Denmark

• Despite of government reluctance to allow private companies to use the WiMAX frequency ranges, a few companies are using the WiMAX technologies with different frequencies. For private customers, the largest cities are covered by ClearWire, while Butler Networks delivers WiMAX access to business customers through other telecommunication providers.

Dominican Republic

• Since October 2007, the first WiMAX ISP Onemax delivers both telephony and internet access, using licenced spectrum at 3.5 GHz, to both home and business customers in Santo Domingo. Also, TRICOM ([3]) it is currently offering WiMAX services to its business customers, on a first implementation phase (town Bavaro; also the municipalities of Haina, Santo Domingo Oeste, Santo Domingo Norte and Greater Santo Domingo). Recently, there's a third WiMAX provider, Wind Telecom ([4]), that offers not only telephony and data, but also subscription-based digital television broadcasting.

E

Egypt

• The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) issues WiMAX licensed bands to companies requiring license for using the technology for data transfer.

Estonia

• A total of 4 licenses in the 3.5-3.6 GHz range have been issued to 5 companies. Three of them (Norby Telecom, Baltic Broadband and Tele2) have national-wide licenses and two companies (Levira and Elion) share the same frequency, but Elion can use it only in Tallinn and Harjumaa region and Levira in the whole country except of Tallinn and Harjumaa.
• Norby Telecom was the first WiMAX operator in Estonia, started in September, 2005. At the moment Norby covers more than 50% of the country, mostly in rural regions, but has partial coverage in Tallinn and its suburbs. Norby utilizes fixed wireless equipment provided by Alvarion and offers speeds up to 2 Mbit/s with external antenna.
• Baltic Broadband AS - develops BaltMAX brand for its WiMAX network, started it in November, 2005. Network covers almost all of Tallinn with some neighbour districts and residential suburb (Coverage Map). BaltMAX offers fixed and nomadic internet access on Navini Networks equipment, which includes desktop modems without external antennas and PC cards. The highest speed BaltMAX can suggest is 768 kbit/s.

Ethiopia

• The incumbent operator (and state-owned monopoly) ETC has deployed a fixed WiMAX network in the capital city of Addis Abeba using the 3.5 GHz band.

F

Finland

• There are some 15 WiMAX operators in Finland spread throughout the country. The coverage is mainly concentrated on the rural areas and Lapland.
• SuomiCom has a network in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Turku and Jyväskylä.
• Kainuun Puhelinosuuskunta has a large network print on rural areas near Kajaani.
• Coverage maps of all Finnish WiMAX networks.

France

• Iliad, owner of the Free (French ISP), is currently, and since 2005, the only owner of a national level license.
• Altitude Telecom as deployed WiMAX in rural areas of France, covering several French departments. One of such successful deployments is ZeVillagein Orne, first departmental deployment in 2004.
• Maxtel also has an offer.
• Any-Port Uses unlicensed 2.4 and 5.4 GHz bands to provide wireless broadband to the yachting community on the French, Italian and Spanish Rivieras.
• HDRR, a subsidiary of TDF has announced the deployment of mobile WiMAX in the Loiret region of France.
• Supernet Technologies India(An RT Networx Company)[5] has announced the deployment of 3.5 and 5.8 GHz WiMAX in the city of St. Medard southern region of France.
• Numeo (http:numeo.fr), covers the Limousin region giving wireless broadband 2.5 and soon 4.0 GHz

Georgia

• VTEL-Georgia, The company utilizes spectrum in the 2.3 GHz band to operate a WiMAX network in 802.16e standard. Commercial operation in four major cities has been started in December, 2008. VTEL-Georgia has embarked on a three-year plan to cover the country under the brand name Maximali.
• ServiceLine, working in 5.3 GHz band, currently operates in Batumi, for now in technical mode. Full commercial operation and rollout is estimated in 2008.

Germany

• Deutsche Breitband Dienste (DBD), started its commercial WiMAX operation in Berlin in November 2005 under its brand MAXXonair using WiMAX equipment from Airspan Networks. Several networks in Wuppertal, Dresden, Leipzig, Laatzen were deployed in 2006, other cities followed in 2007: Magdeburg, Dessau. The same company has deployed networks in rural areas under its brand DSLonair. German telco Arcor operates a commercial WiMAX network in Kaiserslautern since December 2005. Both companies use 3.5 GHz WLL licenses with WiMAX technology.
• In December 2006 3.4-3.6 GHz band broadband wireless access (BWA) licenses were issued through an auction by the federal regulator Bundesnetzagentur. Clearwire, Inquam and DBD now hold licences for the entire country, 2 smaller companies hold regional licenses. These licenses are designed for the use with WiMAX technology.

Greece

• OTE claims to have set-up two large pilot WiMAX networks in operation in Attiki and one in Mount Athos and to be planning nationwide deployment. [6] As of now, no availability, pricing, or expected dates of commercial deployment have been announced.

I

India

Though India does not have any B2C WiMAX network, a few companies are doing on experimental basis, some of them are:

• BSNL Launches Wireless Broadband in Gujarat
• Chennai WiMAX-ed by Aircel Aircel Business Solution (ABS), a part of Aircel, becomes the first company in India to launch WiMAX and one among the five global operators to achieve this feat.
• Reliance Launches WiMAX Services for consumers in Bangalore & Pune on July 4
• [7] VSNL launched India's First WiMAX services (for Business right now)
• BSNL launches WiMAX services in 10 cities across India. They plan to further launch services in 1,000 cities by 2007 end
• VSNL Tata Indicom WiMAX Broadband available for consumers
• Jaipur is all set to go the WiMAX way
• BSNL introduces WiMAX in Goa

Iran

• Mobinnet The only nation-wide WiMAX licensee of the country. The license value is about 106 million dollars. Commercial operation was to be started by the end of 2009, however; Phase A & B of the roll-out includes 301 cell sites in 48 cities with an estimated final half a million subscriber capacity. The company utilizes 2x21 MHz spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band to operate a WiMAX network according to IEEE 802.16e standard.

• Irancell Irancell is the second mobile phone network operator of Iran. It is 49% owned by the South Africa-based MTN Group.

In order to develop its market share and expand the variety of delivered products and services, Irancell Telecommunications Services Company as a GSM Mobile Operator, participated in the tender for WiMAX services in Iran and won this tender and was granted the License on 28 February 2009. According to the License, Irancell would provide services in seven metropolises, including Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Tabriz, Mashhad, Ahvaz and Karaj in the first phase.

• Laser Telecom Based on 802.16d

The first WiMAX Network deployed in Iran, with 80% coverage of Tehran based on a temporary license. It provided coverage for under 4000 subscribers but no further growth is planned due to the license issues. The core of Laser engineering team has joined MobinNet who won the license for the Nation-Wide WiMax project. Laser subscribers will be urged to join the National Wimax Network before expiry of Laser License and dismantling of network. Provides VPN Service to Banks and Insurance companies.

Indonesia

• The Indonesian government announced on January 22, 2009, two ministry decrees and three regulations releasing spectrum at 2.3 GHz and 3.3 GHz for wireless broadband access across all regions of Indonesia. This means Indonesia will using 2.3 GHz band for the Wimax 16.e standard while 3.3 GHz will be used for the 16.d standard.
• Indonesia already able to build their own total solution for Wimax including chips and equipments
• TRG, HARIFF, LEN and XIRKA are major Wimax vendors from Indonesia.
• Wimax trial had been held by Indonesian government in mid-October 2008 to provide internet broadband in the Bandung area.
• Based on trial and local content requisites, two vendors (TRG & HARIFF) had been approved by indonesian government to sell Wimax 16.d equipment to the operators who won wimax 16.d license.
• XIRKA is focusing their business in Wimax chipset.
• TRG, HARIFF & LEN are preparing their product for Wimax 16.e Auction.
• Commercial deployment planned in 2009.
• In July 2009, Indonesian government had announcement the winner of Wimax 16.d license in 15 zones. The winner for each region are:
  • Zone 1 covering North Sumatera region, won by PT First Media Tbk.
  • Zone 2 covering Center Sumatera region, won by PT Berca Hardaya Perkasa.

Ireland

Italy

• Italian Ministry of Defense currently holds the 3.5 GHz band, and is about to free the band through auctions in order to let the government sell licences. Bloggers and members of consumers associations have started protests against this way of assigning the frequencies. The members of the unofficial Italian Pirate Party are currently organizing a Googlebombing. The Ministry of Defense released the band and recently Ministry of Communications has announced that WiMAX licences contest will be in September 2007 or nearly. All licenses available were awarded to different operators in an auction ended on 27 February 2008. Public services should start soon.

Jamaica

• Digicel has deployed an 802.16d network.

Japan

• UQ Communications is a telecommunications company in Japan that provides nationwide WiMAX service. On Feb. 26, 2009, UQ started its mobile WiMAX service in Tokyo, Yokohama, and Kawasaki. The highest speed WiMAX can suggest is 40 Mbit/s down and 7.2 Mbit/s up. Among UQ investors are Intel Capital Corporation, East Japan Railway Company, KYOCERA Corporation, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. and others.
• YOZAN Inc. uses WiMAX as a backbone for its public Wi-Fi service.

Jordan

• Umniah Mobile Company recently acquired a WiMAX license in the 3.5 band (marketing it as "U-Max").
• wi-tribe Jordan second WiMAX operator in Jordan (Operating 2008).
• Kulacom Jordan third WiMAX operator in Jordan.

K

Kenya

• AccessKenya has used WiMAX for its broadband residential service, Access@Home in the cities of Nairobi and Mombasa. AccessKenya has currently deployed one of the largest WiMAX Network in East Africa .
• Kenya Data Networks has used WiMAX for schools in remote areas and plans to provide WiMAX service in several cities.
• Wananchi Online is currently deploying a WiMAX network targeting the SOHO and residential internet market in the country. It is branded Zuku

Korea(South)

• WiBro is served by KT and SK Telecom.

Laos

Tigo Lao offers internet service over Wimax since April 2008

Lebanon

Cedarcom-Mobi Cedarcom offers fixed WiMAX on 3.5 GHz band covering Greater Beirut, Tripoli and Tyr areas; Implemented a large scale network based on Iburst 1.9Ghz technology. planning a wimax network for 2010 on 2.5 GHz band.

Liberia

• Comium offers internet service over WiMAX using Navini Networks in the Monrovia area.

Libya

• Libya Telecom & Technology, the national Internet Service Provider in deployed the first commercial WiMAX network based on the 802.16e-2005 WiMAX standard in Libya. LTT launched the commercial service on the network in January 2008.

Lithuania

3.5GHz band is used, license was asigned to three providers, but one winner NELTE does not offer services, as of 2009 october.

• UAB "Balticum TV", Lithuanian ISP and Cable TV operator deployed the first commercial WiMAX network based on the 802.16d WiMAX standard in Lithuania in 2008. They deployed WiMAX solution from Alvarion, one of the leading WiMAX vendors in a world.
• AB "Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre", Lithuanian wireless ISP, TV and Radio frequency transmitter is deploying commercial WiMAX network on 3.5GHz. It is branded under name MEZON. In March 2009 the network, using Samsung technology, covered Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and nearby towns. In October 2009 network covered 14 biggest towns and resorts.

Malaysia

• Licences have been awarded to 4 operators, Green Packet Bhd, REDtone International Bhd, YTL e-Solutions Bhd and Asiaspace Dotcom Sdn Bhd to provide WiMAX services, service rollout targeted by 2nd quarter of 2008.
• Packet One Networks is ready to lead the market by being the first to deploy on the WiMAX 2.3 GHz spectrum in the region and to establish one of the world’s largest mobile WiMAX 2.3Ghz networks. The WiMAX product called P1 W1MAX[8]. Coverage currently extends over major population centers such as the Klang Valley, Kinta Valley, Penang, Johor Baharu, Alor Setar, Kuantan, and Kuala Terengganu.

YTL e-Solutions represents one of the YTL Group's relatively newer organically grown business activities. YTL e-Solutions through its subsidiary, Y-Max Networks Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Bizsurf (M) Sdn Bhd), YTLe holds a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) licence for a 2.3 GHz wireless broadband access spectrum, which was awarded by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to roll out a nationwide WiMAX network in Peninsular Malaysia.

Macedonia

• National licences have been awarded to 2 operators, Cosmoline Greece and Nexcom Macedonia www.nexcom.com.mk to provide fixed WiMAX services, service roll out targeted by end of 2007.
• Neotel is currently offering Wimax Internet and telephony in all major cities through out the country.

Malta

• Three licences in 3.5 GHz band awarded by the Malta Communications Authority to Vodafone, Go Mobile, Cellcom in Oct 2005. Only Vodafone has commercially launched a broadband and VOIP service over WiMAX in July 2007 and will have country wide coverage by end November 2007.

Mexico

• In October 2005 Axtel commercialized WiMAX for Monterrey city.
• Ultranet2go provides WiMAX services in four states: Veracruz, Puebla, Tamaulipas and Aguascalientes.
• The University of Guadalajara, in collaboration with the Government of Jalisco; has begun the development of a WiMAX network in the state of Jalisco, which will provide free internet access to the population, as well as a better communications infrastructure for the government through a new intranet system.

Mongolia

• Since March 2005 company Ulusnet is providing WiMAX solution for Ulaanbaatar city.
• Now Telemax Communication LLC is providing Mobile Wimax (IEEE 802.16e standard).

Montenegro

• Licences have been awarded to 4 operators: T-Mobile, Broadband Montenegro, m:tel and ProMonte to provide WiMAX services; service rollout began in October 2007(m:tel).

Myanmar

• REDLINK Communication is the first ever service provider company among the private tech companies and deploying WiMAX in the 2.5 GHz spectrum for fixed installation, currently covering Yangon and Mandalay.

N

Namibia

• MWEB Namibia started (December 2006) deploying WiMAX in the 3.3 GHz spectrum, currently covering the Windhoek area. Expanding to the coastal cities of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay

The Netherlands

• On June 17, 2008 Worldmax launched its WiMAX service aerea in Amsterdam on the 3.5 GHz band, the first commercial WiMAX network in Europe. The network is available anywhere inside the A10 motorway, a ringroad around Amsterdam and promises speeds up to 8 Mbit/s.

New Zealand

• nzwireless is deploying WiMAX in the 3.5 GHz spectrum for fixed installation, currently covering the Wellington CBD
• CallPlus purchased 3.5 GHz WiMAX spectrum and are deploying Alvarion from Auckland North. This is run under the wholesale brand Blue Reach.

Nicaragua

• Russian Mobile WiMAX operator Yota (Scartel) (ru): December of 2009 - test operations in Managua.

Nigeria

As of this writing, looks like Nigeria has more players in the WIMAX emergence. One of the main players according to recent research is Alvarion.

Norway

• Telenor is deploying WiMAX mainly in the Trøndelag area and in Western Norway.

Pakistan

Currently, Pakistan has the largest fully functional WiMAX network in the world. Wateen Telecom installed the network (with an initial rollout in 17 cities, Now in 22 cities) throughout Pakistan using Motorola hardware.

• Wi-Tribe Wi-Tribe Pakistan brings together two shareholders Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Saudi-based A.A. Turki Group of Companies (ATCO) along with the partnership of Clearwire International in WiMAX deployment in Pakistan. Commercial services started in June 2009 in 4 major cities, while expansion is underway for another 10 cities.
• Wateen Deployed world's first and largest nationwide WiMAX network.
• Qubee Qubee has launched services for residential and business customers in Karachi and plans to continue its rollout across the rest of Pakistan soon.
• Super Broadband service is launching Soon. Testing Network running in Karachi
• Mobilink Infinity Pakistan's Second WiMAX network with operations in the South region currently. It has three access vendors (Huawei, Motorola and Alcatel-Lucent), all of which use Juniper Network's centralized AAA (SBR), SRC (Policy management), and BSR (dynamic subscriber management). Operations are being expanded to other parts of the country as well.

Panama

Russia

WiMAX operators are allowed to use 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequency bands; since outdoor UMTS-2100 is not allowed in Moscow, WiMAX is gaining widespread adoption for wireless broadband access in that region.

• Yota (Scartel) (ru) (IEEE 802.16e-2005, 2.5-2.7 GHz, yota.ru) is the first commercial Mobile WiMAX operator in Russia . As of Autumn 2009, commercial operation has commenced in Moscow and St. Petersburg with partial coverage of Moscow Oblast and Leningrad Oblast, and free public testing started in Ufa, Sochi and Krasnodar. A network is under construction in Samara. In the next 3 years, coverage should spread to 180 Russian cities and towns with population over 100 000; coverage of Moscow Oblast and Leningrad Oblast should improve as well.
• Comstar-WiMAX (Comstar-OTS) (ru) (IEEE 802.16e-2005, 2.5 GHz, wimax.comstar.ru) is the second commercial operator in Russia to begin operations; currently offers WiMAX services in Moscow only and does not plan any extension of coverage.
• Enforta (pre-WiMAX 802.11a) operates for corporate customers only, covers 68 largest cities of Russia with total population of 55M. Uses network equipment from Alvarion, InfiNet Wireless, and Airspan, operating in 3.5 GHz and 5.2 GHz bands. Broadband Internet access plans start from US $20 per month.
• Summa Telecom currently holds national 2.5—2.7 GHz license and is currently deploying its first WiMAX Network in Dagestan.
• Synterra WiMAX holds 2.5-2.7 GHz license valid until 2015 and currently provides corporate-only service in the Moscow region, using equipment made by Nextnet Wireless (acquired by Motorola in July 2006). Unlimited Internet access plans start from US $85 per month.
• WITE (NEX3, novytelecom.ru). Kemerovo (WiMAX 802.16e) and Ryazan (IEEE 802.16d).

• GO Telecom (Etihad Atheeb) has also acquired a 3.5GHz frequency spectrum across 13 regional divisions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to provide advanced fixed line services

• Telekom Srbija started the test phase of its WiMAX 802.16d network in 2006, mostly for customers in rural areas like Zlatibor, although coverage and more information about its network and information about capabilities are limited.
• Media Works holds 3.5 GHz licences and has deployed fixed WiMAX network in late 2006. Portable WiMAX has been deployed on 20 February 2008, and its commercial use is expected by the end of March, 2008.
• Verat net currently deployed fixed WiMAX for cities: Beograd, Novi sad, and Pancevo.

Singapore

• QMax has deployed and commercialized on 2.3 GHz licenses.
• Pacific Internet has launched @irpower for enterprise users on 2.5 GHz licenses.

Slovenia

On October 3 2006 APEK has issued two WiMAX licences:

• Telekom Slovenije - Telekom connected first WiMAX bradband user on March 30 2007.
• Tok telekomunikacije, which was acquired by TUŠ Telekom (former Volja.net) and then sold to the American company Winvest Inc.

South Africa

• Telecoms Regulator ICASA has only issued four licences for commercial WiMAX services: to wireless broadband solutions provider iBurst, state-owned signal distributor Sentech, second network operator Neotel, [Amatole Telecommunication Services] (under serviced area license holder in S.A. and Telkom, all on the 3.5 GHz band.

• Telkom has a 512 kbit/s service available [9] for R240 a month. This excludes data, which must be purchased separately from an ISP. It is priced below the 512 kbit/s DSL offering (R326 p/m excluding voice line rental).
• Internet Solutions (the biggest Commercial ISP in South Africa) and M-Web have also completed independent trials and await ICACA's license issuing.

Spain

• Eurona small operator born in Catalunya and with deployments all over the country. Eurona deploys wimax 802.16d equipment giving services to rural areas and small cities with services from 18 euros for residencial users to simetric services of over 20 Mbps for companies. Eurona is also completint its offer with phone lines and VOip services. [10]
• Euskaltel, the cable operator from the Basque Country. The initial project includes broadband to rural areas with prices between 22 euros a month for 300 kbit/s and 39 euros for 1 Mbit/s. A phone line costs additional 13.75 euros. [11] (in Spanish).
• Iberbanda bought by Telefónica in 2006, has the largest number of customers. Their contract free price is 39 euros for 512 kbit/s, 70 euros for 1 Mbit/s and additional 10 euros for a phone line. Iberbanda offers three contract options Avi (only internet for 39 euro/month), AviPack (internet and phone line for 39 euro/month) and AviPlus (internet and phone service only for businesses for 70 euro/month). • In the past, aLÓ offered WiMAX to corporate customers.
• Clearwire is now offering WiMAX service under the name Instanet to Málaga and will also be available to Seville soon.

Sri Lanka

• Dialog Telekom began commercial operations in late 2006 and offers speeds of up to 4 Mbit/s. Sri Lanka Telecom has also launched test transmission in certain areas. However there are problems as the local pay television operator Comet Cable uses some of the WiMAX bandwidths.
• Lanka Bell launched commercial operations in early 2008.
• SUNTEL has started the Wi-Max BroadBand
• SKYnetwork(Subsidary of Srilanka Telecom) also going to launch the WiMAX network by March 2010. Huawei technologies is providing the equipments for the network implementation.They are going to use 30M BAndwidth, 10M per each sector.

Sweden

• Telia Sonera has installed WiMAX in 21 counties.
• MobileCity has deployed WiMAX in 19 municipalities.

The investors consist of content and WiMAX technology manufacturers who share the common vision in providing next generation mobility services with rich and intuitive content that is affordable for the masses. They are providing service to Hsinchu & will be in Taipei & other parts in the North.
• VMAX service is widely available in Taipei & is expanding to other parts of Taipei County as well.
• Chunghwa Telecom announced it will partner with Nortel to build Taiwan's first integrated local government mobile WiMAX network in Yilan, providing county-wide broadband wireless access. It will be based on IEEE 802.16e.

U

UAE

• etisalat United Arab Emirates-based provider currently has WiMAX covering entire UAE. However this service is provided to customer locations where cable infrastructure is not present; covering almost all desert areas and remote construction sites. The customers do not have to pay any extra amount as the service is charged the same way as normal telephone and internet service provided by the company.

Uganda

• MTN Uganda has installed a country wide WiMAX solution starting from June 2007. This installation uses the BreezeCOM solution from Alvarion.

UK

• Urban Wimax UK service provider based in London that is dedicated to providing businesses with carrier class, high speed symmetric bandwidth.
• eeWifi UK service provider. Have been experimenting for some time with WiMAX, and have been using WiMAX in the 5.8GHz band for some time. Are considering rolling out a high speed WiMAX service from all of their main dealer locations.
• Wi-Manx Isle of Man based service provider, holds a 3.6-3.8 GHz licence and was the first to launch a commercial, licensed WiMAX service in the UK.
• FREEDOM4 (formerly known as Pipex Wireless), is one of the two official license holders in the UK. FREEDOM4 holds 3.6 GHz licensed spectrum and is deploying WiMAX throughout the UK. Their first launch took place in Milton Keynes in December 2007. FREEDOM4's WiMAX coverage is supplemented by over 4,000 WiFi hotspots in the UK through FREEDOM4 WiFi.
• UK Broadband a subsidiary of PCCW, owns 3.5 GHz licences.
• BT is planning to install six WiMAX antennas and associated equipment on the tallest building in Newcastle upon Tyne.
• On the London to Brighton railway line, Nomad Digital and T-Mobile have implemented a trackside WiMAX network that supports Passenger Internet Communications through on train Wi-Fi Access Points. A similar system is expected to be deployed soon on the West Coast Main Line.
• Metranet, Brighton provide connectivity to Brighton and Hove City Council and the University of Sussex amongst others and have achieved speeds of up to 1Mb/sec.
• Orbital Net Ltd provides fixed WiMAX services to businesses and the like.

Ukraine

• Ukrainian High Technologies Ltd (the trade mark AlterNet) holds the license for 3.4-3.7 GHz range and currently operates WiMAX networks in Kiev, Lviv and Kharkiv based on Intel PRO/Wireless 5116 client terminals. AlterNet plans to cover all Ukraine's regional centers (26 cities) by 2007.

USA

• NetX Internet is a fast growing WiMAX operator that serves businesses in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area with connections up to 1000 Mbit/s.
• AT&T Alaska is offering the latest in broadband technology in Alaska. Deployments have been launched in Anchorage & Juneau areas.
• AzulStar, Inc is a leader in fixed and mobile WiMAX offering service in Michigan and New Mexico. Services include unlimited Internet, Telephone and TV with connections up to 100 Mbit/s. AzulStar also provides WiMAX service up to 7M to passengers on the 100 mile long New Mexico Rail Runner Express High Speed Train system.
• DigitalBridge Communications launched the first commercially available WiMAX network in the United States in 2007 under the name BridgeMAXX and holds 2.5 GHz licenses in several regions. Current Deployments are in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Indiana, South Dakota, and Virginia.
• MetroBridge Networks serves businesses in Arizona and Greater Seattle with connections up to 2.5 Mbit/s.
• Nth Air holds a nationwide 3.65 GHz license. Nth Air is currently deployed in California, Nevada, and Colorado with expanding footprint across the nation.
• Clearwire holds 2.5 GHz licenses in several regions, and is deploying a nationwide network to rival the other nationwide carriers and currently has commercial WiMAX deployments in 27 U.S. markets under the brand CLEAR. At the end of 2008, Sprint Nextel merged their WiMAX operations (named XOHM), with additional investment from five other technology companies to create the "new" Clearwire. Comcast, Sprint, and Time Warner Cable acting as wholesale providers are now providing access to the same underlying WiMAX network as well.
• Xanadoo operates WiMAX networks in Texas, Oklahoma, and Illinois. They also run Navini Networks-based pre-WiMAX networks & have holdings in the 2.5 GHz spectrum in multiple markets in the mid-west.
• Open Range Communications will build a 17-state WiMAX network providing wireless broadband to 500+ un-served and underserved rural American communities.
• RazzoLink carries WiMAX and pre-WiMAX throughout Monterey County, California on the 2.5/2.6 GHz band.
• Rapid Systems uses WiMAX in the Tampa Bay metro area on the 3.5 GHz band.
• Zing Networks is operating a 3.65 GHz WiMAX network in the Greater Metro Detroit Area in Michigan.
• Sling Broadband WiMAX broadband operator in the Greater Miami WiMAXand Fort Lauderdale Wimax Metro Area offering Wireless Metro Ethernet, Business T1 Service and Wireless Broadband Service
• Towerstream offers WiMAX-based internet service to businesses in 9 US cities, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Providence, San Francisco and Seattle
• River Canyon Wireless Provides up to 2Mbit point to point for Monticello & Blanding, Utah. Also provides Motorola Canopy support for Moab & Green River, Utah
• Rainbow Broadband serves New York City businesses with WiMAX-based internet at speeds exceeding 100Mbit in Manhattan and surrounding boroughs (subject to line-of-sight limitations.)
• Northern Michigan University, working with Intel, Lenovo, Motorola and Cisco, has deployed a WiMAX network covering the City of Marquette, Michigan. Right now, most of the City of Marquette has solid access to the WiMAX network, as well as some points as far south as Chocolay Township and west as Marquette Township. Currently, students and faculty of NMU have access to the network; along with certain city personnel.
• Main Street Broadband is starting to provide WiMAX service in southern Georgia and northern Florida.
• Quad-Cities Online's plans to use 2.5 GHz spectrum in Illinois for WiMAX service were put on hold while the company looks for other potential partners.
• Conterra in Columbia, SC, Charlotte, NC, and nearby areas.
• QX.Net in Lexington, KY offers fixed WiMAX in the 3.65 GHz band.

Uzbekistan

• Max Line offers WiMAX-based Internet access and VPN service for corporate clients in Tashkent.

Venezuela

• Movilmax has deployed WiMAX to the IEEE 802.16e standard in Caracas and is the first which operates in 2.5 GHz in the world. Movilmax has a strategic alliance with Samsung Electronics Co. and started commercialization in July 2007 with CPE modem and PCMCIA laptop cards.

Z

Zambia

• Africonnect Zambia Ltd. has deployed WiMAX (IEEE 802.16d standard) in Lusaka, Livingstone, Kitwe, Ndola and several other towns in Zambia using Motorola Expedience equipment. The network is still expanding, both within as well as outside Lusaka.
