Game of the Year (abbreviated GotY) is a distinction awarded by various magazines, websites, and shows to a deserving game. Many are only for PC or console video games. Many publications award a single "Game of the Year" to a single title that they feel represents the pinnacle of gaming achievement that year. In 2009, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves set a record for the most won GotY awards for any video game ever, with 100 different media outlets (including 1UP.com, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, Eurogamer, Game Informer, GameSpot Reader's, Giant Bomb, IGN, IGN(AU), Joystiq, Kotaku, Metacritic, New York Times, Spike TV and X-Play) naming it "Game of the Year".
