My father lived in Korea from from the age of 11 in 1940 when he fled China to escape the Japanese till we immigrated to the U.S. in 1973. For my father I believe it was the country he loved most out of the three he lived in before he passed away on my birthday last year. Walterkem (talk · contribs) I am an English-speaking American with almost 40 years experience visiting South Korea and almost 17 years experience visiting North Korea. I am concerned about Romanizations of names/places in North Korea that don't agree with North Korean usage, e.g. Kumgang vs. Geumgang, etc. In my experience the only people who use McCune-Reischauer are academics who have access to the type fonts. I don't see the North Koreans using MR in their publications, thus creating confusion and uncertainty for lay visitors.

I just heard in July of 2009 that the U.S. Navy was given permission from the South Korean government to move their base from Incheon to Jeju Island by 2012.
