Revision as of 12:56, 16 January 2015

Welcome. Please note that this page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions or rejected Articles for creation drafts), or in "articles for deletion" debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. This page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be userfied or emailed to you so the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). This means that content deleted after discussion—at articles for deletion, categories for discussion, or miscellany for deletion among other deletion processes—may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided at all.

This page is only for requesting undeletion of articles or files which have already been deleted. If the article you are concerned about is still visible, but has a warning message (template) at the top, please do not post here, but follow the instructions in the template or on your talk page.

Note that requests for undeletion is not a replacement for deletion review. If you feel an administrator has erred in closing a deletion discussion or in applying a speedy deletion criterion, please contact them directly. If you discuss but are unable to resolve the issue on their talk page, it should be raised at Wikipedia:Deletion review, rather than here.

Instructions for special cases

Shawn Oakman

unjustifiably deleted. Admin decided to take it into his/her own hands to decide who's notable or not. There were numerous sources provided in the article, that suggest an AFD would be the more logical move than to just flat out delete.-Yankees10 01:18, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As the deleting admin, let me note that Yankees has repeatedly resisted my explanation and reminder that this article didn't have any secondary sources; all he's done is insist that the guy passed WP:BIO, despite providing no evidence for such a statement, let alone evidence of the significance that would ward off an A7 speedy. Note that administrators have broad consensus to bypass deletion discussion, at their discretion, and immediately delete Wikipedia pages or media in a few situations, and this is one of those situations. Nyttend (talk) 01:24, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Yankees10: The page is ineligible for restoration by request because it was deleted in accordance with WP:CSD#A7. Because the deleting administrator has already stated the rationale for deleting the page, you may bypass the step required in Wikipedia:Deletion review to contact the deleting administrator, and open a case there. ~Amatulić (talk) 02:23, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Angel Sessions

I would like to request for undeletion of Angel Sessions article. I have fixed the issue by completely removing the bio on the IMDB site that caused the deletion. After reviewing the issue I now understand why this happened. Thank you. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1594651/bio " button below -Demetrius Guidry (talk) 22:14, 7 January 2015 (UTC) Demetrius Guidry (talk) 22:14, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Not done I believe you would be talking about Draft:Angel Sessions. Copyright still applies even if the original copy is destroyed. You are welcome to write this in different words, or if it was you that wrote the IMDB content, then you can add a note on IMDB using the same id that created the writeup in the first place that the content is CC-BY-SA-3.0 and GFDL licensed as well. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:34, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Graeme. Since the IMDB article has been deleted. I can reinstate it and then add at the end of the article that it is CC-BY-SA-3.0 and GFDL licensed as well. Is just adding that statement enough to reinstate my original article that was deleted? Or, is there a form I need to fill out? Lastly, may I create the original article using the code I saved and go from there?. Thanks. Demetrius Guidry (talk) 15:58, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done This appears to have been a blatant copyright violation of his IMDb bio.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:07, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Цвиркун.JPG

An image (allegedly 5375947 bytes) was transferred to commons (56 KB) and deleted as {{now commons}} (F8). If the original size is correct something went seriously wrong. In that case please restore a local copy for a new attempt. -Be..anyone (talk) 09:52, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. from the file history, something evidently went wrong with the first transfer to Commons on 28 Oct 2012, but the file was then successfully transferred on 28 Aug 13, size 56 kb, and is still on Commons - click the blue-link above. It was nominated at Commons:COM:Deletion requests/File:Цвиркун.JPG, but the result yesterday was keep. JohnCD (talk) 13:50, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I participated in the DR on commons, that's no problem. I want the original big file on commons, if it still exists here (assuming that the bug wasn't only an erroneous number 5375947.) As soon as that original file is on commons it would be of course again deleted here as "F8". –Be..anyone (talk) 16:12, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked at the deleted file - the image is identical with the current one, perhaps a slightly higher-contrast version, but the same size, 200 × 267. The size is indeed shown as 5,375,947 bytes, so there must be something very peculiar about it - that's more than 100 bytes per pixel.
Looking further, the Commons file history page shows that on 28 Aug 203 McZusatz uploaded the new version and then "changed visibility of a revision on page File:Цвиркун.JPG: content hidden (Absurd overhead)", implying that it's still there on Commons but hidden. I think you should ask McZusatz before restoring it. JohnCD (talk) 17:59, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jup, I tried to make it clear by uploading the reduced size version again and giving the reason in the summary field. --McZusatz (talk) 20:56, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Be..anyone: there was something very peculiar about the file. Either the image generation script went awry and stored a bunch of unnecessary information at the end, or the uploader had something more nefarious in mind. I cannot figure out which of the two by basic inspection of the file, but there is no reason to have the original around. Also, you probably want to make your undeletion requests for a Commons image at c:COM:UNDEL. Magog the Ogre (tc) 22:58, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so something big existed, was seriously broken, and only an embedded {{nowcommons}} thumbnail was usable. On the day when I stumbled over this oddity I copied a big Paco Peña in 1984.jpg here over a tiny thumbnail on commons (help desk request), and wondered if something with the transfers is systematically wrong. Thanks for checking. Be..anyone (talk) 05:58, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This article was deleted today because of inactivity. Please undelete this article because I do have changes to make to it for resubmission. We have been waiting for some published articles on CURM so we could increase the number of references (one of the problems why it was previously denied). As I am a part-time employee of CURM, this is the first chance I've had to get back to editing the article. Tarek Najm

1. I am here to request a restoration of Tarek Najm's page on Wikipedia. The page was deleted on November by the administrator : Secret. The reason was irrelevant references been added on this page. First of all, I add some departments Tarek Najm run in the Microsoft as references since these department pages include hyperlink to Tarke's page. I think it may good to also include these departments page's link in Tarek' page if audiences want to go back. 2. I made some changes for Tarek's profile since I found out he already left Microsoft in 2013. Therefore, I updated his current status and occupations in order to provide more accuracy information. Last, even the administrator believed I should not add these references or updated information in Tarek's page, he can contact me or simply remove the references or additional information. It's very surprising that the administrator quickly made a decision to delete the entire page which already exists in Wikipedia for 4-5 years. I left messages on Secret's talk page to ask for restoration of Tarek Najm's page until Secret's quit suddenly. Could you please help to review this case, reconsider the deletion decision? I wish you can approve this request to make Tarek Najm's page back again.

Thank you so much~ -Faylinesong (talk) 22:20, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done The administrator did not "quickly" make a decision - it was the result of over three weeks' discussion at WP:Articles for deletion/Tarek Najm which decided that the references did not meet the WP:Notability requirement for "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject," see also WP:Notability (summary). Because it was deleted after a deletion discussion, it will not be undeleted here, but, since Secret has retired, you may apply directly at WP:Deletion review.
Some advice, though: one of your edit summaries said "My boss asked me to edit his bio page", and you have already been warned on your talk page about WP:Conflict of interest. You must understand that Wikipedia is not a place like LinkedIn for people to post their CVs, or tell their subordinates to write about them: COI editing is strongly discouraged. If you make a request at Deletion Review, be careful to declare your interest. Also, Read WP:Bombardment and WP:AMOUNT. JohnCD (talk) 23:34, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Faylinesong: I believe have been communicating with you in OTRS. My advice to you was, after receiving no response from Secret, to take your case to Wikipedia:Deletion review, not post a restoration request here on this page. Your next step remains Wikipedia:Deletion review. To make your case, you must explain why you believe the outcome of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tarek Najm was in error. ~Amatulić (talk) 15:29, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies and I did not know that there was a time limit on references and nor do I know how to site an article. I just figured that someone would find something or site the article. I've never used Wikipedia before and this is my first article. The reason that I found it worthy of Wikipedia is because we share the same name. And furthermore I did find a website quoting him. http://thebettermentofmyself.webs.com/apps/blog/entries/show/24048511-1987-nfl-draft -Michaelbrown14455 (talk) 02:59, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't have time to edit it further - now have help to complete the task -Stwins (talk) 09:58, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Done @Stwins:, I do have to give a slight word of caution. The article is kind of written in such a manner that it reads like it was pulled from an official website or summary about the church. It has some peacock sentences and words like "One of its most striking features is the obelisk cross bearing the inscription." I'd also re-write the sentence "The Bell, possibly the work of Mears & Stainbank, is rung every Sunday to call the faithful to mass.", as it also sounds a little promotional-ish in its tone. Plus I do have to warn you that your username "StWin" should be changed in order to reflect more on you as a person, as it gives off the impression that you are editing on behalf of this specific church. While you can edit with a conflict of interest, your username should reflect on you as an individual. Those are the two biggies- this still needs sourcing for notability but those others were the two that I wanted to mention. On a side note, is the church (or any part of it) registered as a historical landmark? That kind of gives automatic notability from what I can remember, so that'd be one of the first things I'd research and source. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:07, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Abbotswood, Hampshire

The development of Abbotswood, Hampshire has caused a lot of controversy and the original article did not have enough detail to be useful but I intend to update it. • Not done The issue I first saw was that the page was pretty full of various weasel words and peacock type terms that would come across as promotional for Bates, enough to where you'd likely have to re-write substantial parts of the article to really make it fit the NPOV guidelines. A good example of something that would have to be re-written or just taken out completely would be sentences like "Bates is internationally recognized for his outstanding contributions and achievements as a polymer scientist." It also looks to be somewhat closely paraphrased at times from various sites like this one. If it was just one or the other I would have restored it because neither one was so bad that it would be something I'd decline on that basis alone, but together they pose enough of a problem that it'd just be better if you re-wrote it from scratch in your own words. MAMCM

This page had described the history and significance of the Mid-Atlantic Macromolecular Crystallography Meeting (MAMCM). This was the first such meeting in the United States (prompted by analogous meetings in Europe in the early days of protein crystallography), and it played a role in the development of protein crystallography, particularly in the eastern U.S. As an example of its broader significance (beyond Wikipedia in and of itself), the "History" link at http://www.mid-atlantic.org points to this (now-deleted) MAMCM Wikipedia page. -Cmura (talk) 17:33, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Cmura: The deleting administrator Kelapstick might be receptive to that argument, because you are making an assertion of significance, which should be sufficient to overcome deletion in accordance with WP:CSD#A7, although the article still may not survive a nomination at WP:AFD if it comes to that. Please make your case to the admin. Articles deleted by A7 are ineligible for restoration by request on this page. ~Amatulić (talk) 21:12, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't find the argument particularly compelling, nor the fact that the organization is using a Wikipedia article as the history section of their website (which is a bad idea for a number of reasons, this being the least of them). However if Cmura would like to discuss the matter further, I am happy to on my talk page.--kelapstick(bainuu) 21:32, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The admin who deleted this page did not even specify a reason for doing so, and I would like to see the information that was there. If there was a valid reason for deletion then fine, but without the admin specifying a reason we cannot know what happened. This is my first time requesting undeletion, so apologies if I make any mistakes in this request. -Oogabooga007 (talk) 19:59, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Oogabooga007: The reason is there for anyone to see: "Expired PROD, concern was: No references, no claim of notability, fails WP:NSONGS and WP:GNG". But because articles deleted via PROD can be restored by request. I done so. If the article is not improved, it will likely be proposed for deletion at WP:AFD. Vierck%27s_law

Vierck's Law, a corollary to Moore's Law, was cited periodically on well-known blogs (e.g. Scott Hanselman) referencing Software Engineering as a discipline. As a member of the Windows NT team I (Benjamin Vierck) mentioned the law myself in some subsequent interviews. It occupies a tiny corner of Software Engineering, to be sure, but it does not deserve to be wiped from our shared culture altogether. As Machine Learning gains popularity 2015-2017 it may become relevant again in our conversation in that software that learns will violate the longstanding Law.

A classical law in the field of computer science predicting the longevity of software. The half life of any developed software product, library, or tool is 18 months. -Xcud (talk) 05:38, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Curriculum09:  Not done, yet. It was deleted as a non-notable film. It hasn't even been released yet! Wikipedia is not a platform for publicizing films that might be notable someday.
Having a trailer on YouTube and an entry in IMDB doesn't make it notable, and neither does being present "soon" in a database somewhere. If it doesn't have significant actual coverage (not trivial mentions or directory listings) by multiple reliable sources that are independent of the film, it doesn't belong on Wikipedia. If I restored it, it would be deleted again on WP:TOOSOON grounds. What do you plan to do with the article? Restoring to draft space might be best. • Not done They're referring to Renoir Bathers paper report. It looks like it was created by User:Michael James Schneider last month and was deleted because it was completely empty. Of course they might also be referring to File:Paper as evidence.pdf, which was deleted at Commons for a lack of permissions. Either way restoration will not be done on this forum since there was nothing to restore for the Wikipedia article and we cannot restore Commons deletions here (and they'd still need to file a ticket at WP:ORTS to show permissions even then). However at the same time I'm kind of getting WP:OR vibes from this, as this is likely the same thing that is discussed here so I'd recommend that Michael J. Schneider approach this with extreme caution. Just because one specialist has covered this does not mean that a subject is notable. Also, I'll have to block this account as a technical sockpuppet since you're really only supposed to have one account for editing on Wikipedia. • Not done The page was pretty muddled and it's also somewhat promotional in how it was written, to the point where it really comes across like it is a likely copyright violation. Note: This page has been deleted multiple times as an abandoned draft article. Not done Given the multiple prior requests for undeletion, with no significant change made after them to address the decline bases, I second that you would need to explain in some detail and specificity what you intended to do to make this article compliant. However, this article was quite promotional in tone, which militates against undeletion anyway. More importantly, it appears the article infringed on the copyright of content at CD Universe. It is possible it's a backwards copyvio and I can't check through the Wayback Machine as that site doesn't allow it web crawling, but it's worrying. Given all this combined, I don't think undeletion is warranted.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:59, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not done The article contained copyright violations from this website. We cannot accept copyright violations on Wikipedia and material must either be in your own words or you must file a ticket at WP:ORTS giving Wikipedia permission to use the text. However even then the article still had issues since it contained many phrases that would be considered promotional per Wikipedia's guidelines. That's kind of the issue with taking things verbatim from an official website, as the official website is written to draw in a customer and sell things to them. That's expected and recommended for an official website, but not for Wikipedia since the article would have to be written in a neutral and encyclopedic manner. That's why copyrighted material is so discouraged- in most cases even if permissions are granted the material would still need to be re-written. I'd recommend that you start from scratch and write the article in your own words. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:09, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am requesting this be put back. This is because while the person who deleted it said that there is no reason for it to be included in wiki, IMHO this is untrue since the original article was listed under: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Most_requested_articles (indicating that Wiki itself is REQUESTING this article). Thus if Wiki is making the request I was under the impression that it would be Wiki-notable.

Best EmmaJoanne

  • @EmmaJoanne: I do have to let you know that having it listed as a request does not automatically mean that the person passes notability guidelines as a whole. It just means that (in this instance) there are multiple red links for someone by that name. Sometimes people will red link to something (ie, a referee), yet the topic will not pass notability guidelines. In other words, the number of red links doesn't necessarily equate to notability and should be taken to mean that it's likely that the requested topic would be notable. It can be a good argument towards there being coverage, but it's not a guarantee. Offhand I'd probably have requested that it go to AfD instead of speedy deletion if I'd been the admin that came across it, but I can see where the notability issues came from and why it was A7'd. Of the sources on the page, only this one appeared to be a non-primary source as the others were from places associated with Anderson. It also had some issues with tone, as it kind of came across like it was an article for a newspaper as opposed to a Wikipedia entry. Some of the sentences were written in such a casual manner that it sort of came across a bit promotional. (IE, sentences like this one: "Because of how much he enjoys both his professions he tries to combine them and thus leads courses for school students to encourage them to "pick up a whistle," which has been going well.") I hope this doesn't come across as too negative, just that these are some of the biggest issues I saw with the article and was likely what led to it being deleted. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:35, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • You could probably get it placed in your userspace or draftspace to work on, though- you should ask the deleting admin Anthony Appleyard if he'll do it for you. He's usually pretty willing to work with people on stuff like this. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:37, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
