== Problems Uploading an Article due to Advertising ==

Dear help desk.
I am a student at Bryant University and have been doing some extensive research on the sport betting industry/ gambling industry. I have identified many sport betting companies on Wikipedia that have helped me greatly with my research however, I noticed there was no page on Playtech BGT Sports. Therefor I have attempted to create my own article to help other researchers out. Shortly after I wrote a simple overview of Playtech BGT Sports I received a message that it was promotional.
Could you please assist me in finding out what information leads to such an assumption? I think many people would benefit from this article.
Here is the exact URL of the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playtech_BGT_Sports
Best,
Thomas Binder

please remove article written about Wompimeequin wampatuck published by Maynard Clarck it was put up without permission thank you kindly — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.61.15.196 (talk) 00:07, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid you'll need to provide a link to the article in question. I can't find it based on the information you've provided. Incidentally, whose permission do you suppose is required to create an article? RivertorchFIREWATER 03:43, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The OP may be referring to this talk page posting. Maproom (talk) 08:03, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that sound likely. The best place to discuss the problem is on that talk page. If the only evidence is from Facebook, then the paragraph has no place in Wikipedia. It is not currently in any article. Dbfirs 08:52, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    New Entry

I have completed a trademark on a bumper sticker and would like to add its meaning to Wikipedia. I have signed up and now have a login/password. What is my next step?Nicebeaver (talk) 02:04, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Nicebeaver. Welcome to Wikipedia. But Wikipedia is not the place to publish the meaning of your trademarked terms. I would suggest a quick read to one of our critical policies: Why original research should not be included on Wikipedia, and some of our very important guidelines on what Wikipedia is not, why you might have a conflict of interest and what kind of articles can be included on Wikipedia. Write back for more help. Thanks. Lourdes 02:47, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Free image source template

Template:US image sources lists U.S. sources of free images. It includes Flickr, and says the required license is CC 2.0. But at WM Commons, I believe CC 2.5 or higher is required. Am I interpreting this correctly? Is this template out-of-date? MB 04:42, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information; but there may be nobody here who has any use for it. I'm guessing you are suggesting that it be added to an article. If you have a published source for the information, you are welcome to add it to the article (with a citation to that source) - Wikipedia is the encyclopaedia that anybody may edit. If you don't feel confident in editing the article, or do not have a source, the best place to suggest it is on the article's talk page (every article has a Talk page, though in some cases the Talk page has not yet been created). If no published source can be found, then the information should not go into the article, as all information in Wikipedia is supposed to be referenced to published source.
@86.177.52.240: - Already mentioned in the Rolling stock of the Mid-Norfolk Railway article. Mjroots (talk) 20:30, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Qatar edit

On the main page of the qatar entry there is a bias line:

In June 2017, The Wahhabi terrorist states, Saudi Arabia (a brutal dictatorship that sponsors terrorism and has proven links to 9/11 and other atrocities) , Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar for allegedly supporting terrorism, causing the 2017 Qatar diplomatic crisis. In 2017, Qatar was the best. By Jamal Badr. Also, they aren't terrorists.

Those facts are unfounded. When you go in to edit the "brutal dictatorship crap" out it isnt there to edit out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.126.201.198 (talk) 13:27, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Translation template?

I've just made an edit which includes a quote that I'm fairly certain has been translated by somebody with a less-than perfect grasp of English (but undoubtedly better than my knowledge of Finnish).

Anyway as it's a quote I don't want to change it, but is there a template one can use to show that a quote may not have originally been in English? At the moment it's unsourced so removal is always an option, but I'd rather keep it as I've already trimmed quite a bit from the section in question. Chaheel Riens (talk) 14:24, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Chaheel Riens, hello. You could give a quick look to Template:Lang. Thanks. Lourdes 00:08, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please add Katie Frates; thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.111.101.208 (talk) 16:01, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Anonymous user. Not quite sure what you're asking, but I'm guessing that you want somebody to write an article about Katie Frates. It's fine to ask for that (though you could make your request a bit clearer), but Wikipedia articles take a lot of work to create, and all our editors are volunteers, who write about what they find interesting or important. If you think she is sufficiently notable (in Wikipedia's special sense - i.e. that there are several pieces of substantial material published about her by people who have no connection with her) then there could be an article about her. You could try creating it yourself (start by reading your first article - but it isn't easy), or you could request it by adding it to an appropriate list at Requested articles. If you find some suitable independent sources, and cite them in your request, that will make the request more attractive for somebody to pick up and work on. --ColinFine (talk) 22:52, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Article not indexing on Google Search

Hello all. This following article has been published on wikipedia, but it impossible to find it through search engines unless you have the specific link. I have looking into the source code and found this <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow"/> How can we remedy to the problem?

@Sthiomb: Also, the article was just created today. It takes a little bit of time for Google to index articles, so they will never appear immediately. Hi there. I am trying to make a page about the actress Samantha Colley. I thought I had made it. But when I search for Samantha Colley on a search engine, the wikipedia page does not come up. Why is my Userpage Nominated for Deletion?

My apologies if this is the incorrect forum (I don't spent much time in the community part of Wikipedia), but my userpage was nominated for deletion by User:Marvellous Spider-Man. As I wrote in the AfD page (here): "My user page contains contact information (explicitly allowed under Wikipedia:User pages) and "Work in progress or material that you may come back to in future"." Am I breaking some rule unknown to me? What is the rationale? PvOberstein (talk) 17:32, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think that keeping a draft on "Sabzar Ahmad Bhat" among your user pages would be fine. But putting it on your user page User:PvOberstein, which is meant to be a page about you as relevant to your activities on WIkipedia, is not. I suggest you move the draft, maybe to User:PvOberstein/Sabzar Ahmad Bhat. Maproom (talk) 17:54, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've now done so. I hope that's the end of the problem. Maproom (talk) 17:59, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The draft has been moved, as per your recommendation, Maproom. That said, I still have to ask: is it proper procedure to simply nominate a userpage for deletion without making any outreach to the user? Furthermore, does the posting of contact information constitute a "promotional userpage"? (I realize this might sound passive aggressive, that is not my intent, I would simply like an answer). PvOberstein (talk) 18:01, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Having contact information is not promotional. The way your userpage looks now is fine. ~ GB fan 18:06, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Surely it depends on the context? Why would you want contact information on a userpage - when the very reason for a userpage is to provide a contact point for a user. Contact info for something other than on-Wiki use shouldn't be necessary. It may be that some users have alternate accounts in operation, so want to list them, but otherwise it's hard to image a need for any other form of valid contact info. Probably better to say that having contact information may not be promotional, but each case differs.

However, as to your other comment - I would expect out of courtesy (apart from obviously disruptive or vandalistic cases) that a user should be approached prior to the deletion request being submitted. But there's nothing to say that a user must be approached prior. Chaheel Riens (talk) 21:47, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Considering Help:Searching#Other search tools, I would like to kindly point out that the page "page contribution" linked there does not work [yet]. By the way, what would actually be the difference to the revision history?--Erdic (talk) 23:25, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Here is a weird one...

I went to the page at c:Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Official portraits of Donald Trump when I noticed that Firefox had the little "mute tab" icon on the tab. There was no audio when I unmuted it. I have seen this before on commons and meta, but figured hat I must have hit the mute by accident. This time it was a freshly opened tab. Not a problem really, but I am curious; any ideas as to why this happened? --Guy Macon (talk) 23:49, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could be an add-on you might have in Firefox that preemptively mutes tabs. Or the keys <ctrl>+m may have been pressed accidentally while opening the tab. Lourdes 01:25, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. The latter is a real possibility. I am using a Ducky keyboard (I highly recommend them) and the Ctrl key is very close to the lower left corner and somewhat easy to hit with my wrist. Thanks! --Guy Macon (talk) 20:19, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    template parameter question

Does anyone know why the closing reason parameter on the Closed rfc top/Rfc top template might not display? I'm trying to close and RfC and I can get the template to display the: "The following discussion is closed...." message and the box around the discussion but everything I put between the pipe character and the braces closing the template is invisible on preview. I'm fairly stumped, here. Thanks. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 01:06, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Eggishorn: Does your "reason" include an equals sign anywhere, perhaps inside a URL? If so then the syntax has to be {{Rfc top|1=your reason here}} with an extra "1=". -- John of Reading (talk) 05:22, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that must be it! Thanks, I didn't notice that before, but including the long form for a link with a diff means that part of the text says "oldid=" That equal sign did exactly what you're saying. Thanks again. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 14:47, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Forgot email address and password

Greetings! Hope you will be having a good day. After a long time that I got back to my wikipedia profile. But, I only remember my username but not the linked email or password. But I can vaguely remember a few words of password. I want to get redirected to it. Any way out? Cheers LauralauraS (talk) 05:33, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Go to Special:PasswordReset. You can enter either your username or your email. If you are certain of your email, but not your username, only enter your email. The system will send a temporary password to your saved email address that will allow you to retrieve your account. You can change the password after you log in.--Shantavira|feed me 08:31, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

publishing my German article in English doesn't work

We would like to publish the article https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsch-Tschechische_Industrie-_und_Handelskammer in English, as we did in Czech before. But there seems to be a problem with the English translation tool. When clicking the "publish translation" button, after typing in the secure word, this message keeps showing up: "Translate page - Note: This utility is currently restricted to extended confirmed editors on the English Wikipedia, see WP:CXT for more information." Furthermore, this message is shown: "An error occurred while publishing the translation. Please try to publish the page again. Error: Hit AbuseFilter: Content Translation Edits

". We did not have this problem with the last translation. We understand that the quality of articles has to be ensured, however we do not understand why we cannot publish it at all. We translated the article by ourselves.

Thank you for your help and your fast reply! AHKTschechien (talk) 08:39, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You need at least 500 edits on the English Wikipedia to do this. You have only 4. Please see WP:CXT.--Shantavira|feed me 10:40, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi, AHKTschechien,
your username and your user page, and also the fact you use 'we' when talking about your actions and experience indicate a serious problem with your account. And it is much more important than the trouble with translation tool. PLEASE see the Wikipedia:Username policy ASAP, esp. the WP:ORGNAME section. --CiaPan (talk) 10:50, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Remove unwanted redirect - actual article name does not appear in a search

I've searched help pages about redirects, etc. but need help. When typing in a search for the page "Sheryl Nields (photographer)", it redirects to Nields. I could list it under the "Nields (surname)" and could still do so, but the article is too challenging for anyone to find. It doesn't show up as an available page choice. Any advice, explanation or an actual correction would be wonderful. Much appreciation.Marcomgirl (talk) 09:12, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Marcomgirl. I'm not sure what the problem is that you are talking about. But I have moved "Sheryl Nields (photographer)" to Sheryl Nields. We do not put explanatory terms in parenthesis in article titles unless it is required to distinguish other subjects with the same name. Shery Nields (photographer) still exists as a redirect to the new location (at the time of writing) but I have requested it be deleted. --ColinFine (talk) 10:29, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Selous Guide: The only edits by your account here at the normal English Wikipedia is this question and [2] which didn't make sense and was reverted. At the Simple English Wikipedia, a separate wiki we don't link to in article text here, you created simple:The Confederation. They are not included in searches here. I don't know their policies but here it would be completely unsuitable as an article (probably also there). Based on Google searches the subject was made up recently and lacks reliable sources to satisfy Wikipedia:Notability. Suggested articles can be submitted at Wikipedia:Articles for creation but it currently sounds impossible to make a suitable article about The Confederation. Hello, anonymous editor. It appears that you have been trying to create a Wikipedia article without understanding the policies and principle by which Wikipedia words (such as "no promotion", and "notability" - in its special Wikipedia sense): many people make that error, and we usually point them at the essay your first article. I do not know whether you were respected or not, but referring to conscientious editors who do understand those policies as "jokers" does not incline me to respect you. Nor does taking money (as implied by your word "client") to perform a job which it appears you do not at present have the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out. --ColinFine (talk) 21:43, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Help needed in editing

I was checking the recent changes log and found that one Ip user (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/115.78.115.3) was removing sock-puppetry tags from many ip addresses. The sockpuppeteer mentioned in the tags that the user removed is already blocked due to being identified as one but then I realized that the SC tags were placed on the talk pages by a blocked ip address (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/112.198.73.9). Now I am not able to tell whether the ip addresses whose tags this user was removing were innocient or not. Please help me with the matter. Greetings Wikipedia Team,

We are trying to create our Wikipedia account under Fameuz. But it is showing us some error.

Can you please explain how we can create our Wikipedia page under our company name "FAMEUZ". The name "FAMEUZ" and the domain "FAMEUZ.com" are owned by Fameuz S.A and we have the Certificate of Incorporation.

Currently, the name "FAMEUZ" is not available and FAMEUZ.com is blacklisted. Can you please explain to us why it is blacklisted? Is it because Fameuz.com is a website name or because it is used by someone else. Can you please investigate and give us update on both. We checked on Wikipedia and Fameuz name is not used by anyone but it is still showing unavailable. Can you please check who is using it because we owned the rights to this name and no one else has rights to use it.

Creating an account whose name that suggests a connection with a company or other organisation is also forbidden. Please read Wikipedia:Username policy. If your intention is to promote Fameuz, Fameuz.com, or anything else, you should not use Wikipedia at all: see WP:NOTPROMO. Maproom (talk) 15:34, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Please understand that there is no connection between a Wikipedia username and the names of articles which that user works on. Anybody may edit any article - except that if a user edits an article with a name similar to their user name, there will be a suspicion that they have a conflict of interest, and should not be editing that article. Please understand also that Wikipedia has no interest in what a subject (whether an organisation or a person) says or wants to say about themselves: none. It is only interested in what sources which have no connection with the subject have published about it. Please read Your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 16:29, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Update talk page archive box.

I'm way out of practice. I can't remember how to update the archive box in the top right corner of my talk page. I want the last link to say 2013 - present. Thanks, CTF83! 18:33, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Violeta Chamorro Bio

The bio states: "Initially, when the Sandinistas were victorious over Anastasio Somoza García, Chamorro fully supported them."

The Sandinistas did not fight Somoza Garcia. They overthrew Anastasio Somoza Debayle. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.121.64.5 (talk) 20:15, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Copyvio question

We have an editor, Theloggedman, who created the following pages: Draft:Oricorio (Fake Article) and Template:Pokémon Infobox. Both articles are pretty much a copy-paste from Bulbapedia (see [4] and [5], respectively). It's blatant plagiarism, but does the content violate WP:COPYVIO, given that content on Bulbapedia is under a CC ShareAlike license? SkyWarrior 21:53, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SkyWarrior: The answer is a bit more complex then you might have expected. First, had the content been licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, we would need an attribution link somewhere (probably in the edit summary) as the license requires. However, the content is not under CC BY-SA 4.0 but under CC BY-NC-SA 2.5 - Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 Generic. The NonCommercial part makes it incompatible with our CC-BY-SA 3.0 licensing. That makes the article an automatic delete. For the template, I had to see if it only contained uncopyrightable facts. Given that it copied specific terms in a specific layout I deleted it as well, to be on the safe side. --NeilN talk to me 22:25, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is a bit more complex than I expected. Thanks for the answer. SkyWarrior 23:20, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No 'related articles' on desktop version (compared to mobile version)

If you look at the article on the Space Shuttle, it contains many related articles. However, the mobile version contains three related articles (Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster, Space Shuttle external tank and Shuttle-Derived Launch Vehicle).

This, on the mobile version, appears to be in some kind of footer and it is not immediately apparent how these three articles are specifically chosen, or if they can be manually set or edited. --24.182.92.247 (talk) 22:28, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Both the mobile and desktop versions contain the "See also" section. The three articles, the ones that appear below the comment that mentions who last edited it and when, seem to be generated randomly, and they appear in addition to the articles in the see also section. —MRD2014 talk contribs 23:58, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Is the 'See also' section relevant? I can see that one of the three 'related articles' from the mobile version (Shuttle-Derived Launch Vehicle) also appears in the 'see also' section.
Where is the code that generates the articles for the 'related articles' footer on the mobile version?
How can we edit that, or force parameters? --24.182.92.247 (talk) 04:45, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See mw:Help:Extension:RelatedArticles. Don't remove "See also" links merely because they are currently in "Related articles". The latter is only seen by some users and the links may change at any time unless the rarely used {{#related:}} at mw:Help:Extension:RelatedArticles#Can I manually add articles? has been added. Resolved

Hello again. I know how to use the # to link to subsections of articles. However, I can't get any farther. For example, I know how to link to the types of tubulin section of the Tubulin article, but I can't get links to more specific subsections. For example, I tried to use [[Tubulin#Types#Eukaryotic#γ-Tubulin|γ-Tubulin]] to link to the γ-Tubulin subsection, but it doesn't work. Is there some wiki code that allows linking to sub-subsections? Thank you. JeanOhm (talk) 02:57, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You just emit the name of the higher-level section(s) completely, giving γ-Tubulin. Pppery 03:00, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nazareth Population Data -Reviewer Refuses to Correct

30.9% should be "Jewish and others" according to Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (not "Christian")

This is a content dispute (and quite a confusing one: some of the sources are in Hebrew, there are two adjacent settlements both named "Nazareth", some of the sources present the statistics in confusing ways) and so should be discussed at Talk:Nazareth. Maproom (talk) 07:31, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you're aware the source link given (which I extended with its English counterpart) tells about NAZERAT ILLIT, not NAZARETH. They are separate localities in CBS.IL data, also Google Maps distinguish between them:

Wiki page has correct info, but wrong info shown on Google search result

In the Google search results for the term ‘Aptech’ (https://g.co/kgs/dncGnj) the name of the CEO is shown as Ninad B Karpe, which is incorrect. The Wikipedia page for Aptech (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aptech) correctly displays the name as Anil Pant. I have clicked on the feedback option in the Google search results page and raised this issue a couple of times. However, it isn’t updated yet. Is there a section within the Wiki to edit what is being displayed in the Google search result? How can I fix this issue? Please help — Preceding unsigned comment added by TanMdan (talkcontribs) 05:48, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's up to Google to decide what they display. They display the contents of their database. The database is filled and periodically updated with data they fetch from the Web (also from Wikipedia, among others sources), but it's only Google's decision how often and when exactly they fetch new data. I'm afraid the only way available to you to request the update is a 'feedback' link. --CiaPan (talk) 06:26, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TanMdan: I don't know how Google processes feedback but it may help if they get the same report from multiple places and with an explanation. I have marked it as wrong and entered this in the optional field: "Current CEO is Anil Pant: https://www.aptech-worldwide.com/pages/investor-relations/investorrelations_board_of_directors.aspx". Thanks for making an accurate post about the problem. See Template:HD/GKG for our stock reply to the typical poster who claims the error is in Wikipedia and doesn't mention Google. To keep or not to keep the copyrighted image (logo)?

A year ago I've uploaded a File:Tun Abdul Razak Univ logo.png for an article about a Malaysian university Universiti Tun Abdul Razak. Recently I noticed the university has changed the logo on their Web site, so I've uploaded a new version File:Unirazak logo.jpg and replaced it in the article.

Should the old file be deleted now, because it became obsolete and it can't be used in any other article for any other purpose due to © restrictions? Or should it be kept, and possibly even displayed at the Universiti Tun Abdul Razak page as a kind of historical record? In the former case, what is the proper way to nominate a file for deletion? --CiaPan (talk) 06:36, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    P.S.
Is there a better place on Wikipedia to ask this kind of question? --CiaPan (talk) 06:38, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Old non-free logos are deleted unless they illustrate a specific discussion about the logo (not just "here is the old logo") and that's rare. A bot has already detected it's no longer used and added it to Wikipedia:Database reports/Unused non-free files. Another bot will tag the file page and later an administrator will probably delete it. Files can be nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Files for discussion or for speedy deletion with a tag at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Files, but you don't have to do anything yourself in this case. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:23, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just tagged it upon reading the post. At least I learnt there is a bot doing these things.

Problems Uploading an Article due to Advertising

Dear help desk. I am a student at Bryant University and have been doing some extensive research on the sport betting industry/ gambling industry. I have identified many sport betting companies on Wikipedia that have helped me greatly with my research however, I noticed there was no page on Playtech BGT Sports. Therefor I have attempted to create my own article to help other researchers out. Shortly after I wrote a simple overview of Playtech BGT Sports I received a message that it was promotional. Could you please assist me in finding out what information leads to such an assumption? I think many people would benefit from this article. Here is the exact URL of the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playtech_BGT_Sports Best, Thomas Binder
