== Respect personal rights and companies rights! ==

Why my request to rename the username from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SaschArt was rejected ? If it was true that we used our username to advertise/spam why you not rename or delete the name?

Do not advertise with our name and do not dirty our name!

Wikipedia must respect international laws and Internet laws on the protection of personal rights and companies rights.

Shouldn't the block for BotPatrol be on username grounds? I seem to recall that username block templates have a line that reads something like, "Usernames may not have the word "bot" in the title unless the account is an approved bot account". If you concur I'd be happy to re-block, otherwise I'll leave it be. TomStar81 (Talk) 21:37, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You've removed my edit by mistake?

Hi Alex. Sorry, i am new to Wikipedia maybe i am using the interface wrong but i didn't find the option to message you directly.

I've just received the following message from you: Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Caligula. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism can result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 21:08, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

You have probably made a mistake. I've changed the following line from the article "It was said that the bridge was to rival that of the Persian king, Xerxes, crossing of the Hellespont.[59] Caligula, who could not swim" by linking the phrase Xerxes, crossing of the Hellespont to the relevant (this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerxes%27_Pontoon_Bridges) article

How does that constitute vandalism?

I am awaiting your apologies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.220.238.107 (talk) 21:15, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hamilton (musical) page protection term

Hi Alexf,

Much appreciation for your page protection of Hamilton (musical). But I don't see what a one week time period will accomplish. This page has received persistent vandalism for almost 2 years now and already been protected several times. That's why I asked for an indefinite period of protection. Especially with new productions of the show currently set to open in 2 U.S. national tours and a production in London, there's no reasonable expectation that the vandalism will die down any time soon. So please reconsider the duration of your protection, so that we aren't right back here in a week. Perhaps 3-6 months at minimum? Many thanks! X4n6 (talk) 21:44, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@X4n6: Extended it to 6 months, then we see. -- Alexf(talk) 21:47, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks again! X4n6 (talk) 21:51, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

31 hours

Hello Alexf. I was wondering what is the rationale for 31 hours block (or historical reason), vs 24, 48 or whatever, but couldn't find this information by a quick search. If you happen to know I'd be grateful, otherwise I could always try the tea house, but it's not really an important question. Thanks, PaleoNeonate (talk) 08:49, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@PaleoNeonate: Not sure why and when that was added as a choice in the tools, but my reason for using it instead of 24 hours is that many offenders are kids from school IPs. They have fun vandalizing during break. 24 hours will set them ready for the same time the next day. This way that is disrupted, so they get bored and go do something else when they can't do it again. Simple but effective. -- Alexf(talk) 09:50, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It makes a lot of sense and answers my question. Thank you very much. PaleoNeonate (talk) 10:00, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pacific Union Financial

Hi,

I'd like to work with you to recreate the wiki page for Pacific Union Financial - I was basing the structure/style of the page based on other financial institution articles, while trying my best not to sound promotional, but if the content needs to be further refined just let me know. I'd love to work together to get the article up and running the right way. I'm also fairly new to this, so if I reached out to you in the wrong way I do apologize.

Thanks,

Irony

I see you put David Ibiyeomie up for deletion based on its spammy, drivelly contents at the time that you tagged it. Ironically, the guy does seem to be notable. If you do a Google News search for him you will read all sort of things that might make you smile but which probably do not make the people spamming hagiography on his behalf smile at all. I have reverted to a version of the article that covers his controversies in a little detail, although not too much as it wouldn't be fair to do a hatchet job on him. I'm enjoying the irony here. If his promoters had never brought him to our attention then his controversies might have gone unnoted outside of Nigeria. They may come to regret it. --DanielRigal (talk) 21:48, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. But still way POV. Will clean up some of that. -- Alexf(talk) 21:53, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear. I see that it got put it back to its spammy state in-between me reverting it and you seeing it. That POV nonsense is certainly not what I was advocating. I have put it back to what I consider to be the valid version, including the referenced news coverage of his controversies, and given the author of the hagiography a warning. If this continues I'll request page protection. --DanielRigal (talk) 00:01, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Vanessamaeoffice / Jasonjsavage

Hi; you recently blocked user Vanessamaeoffice (talk · contribs) based on username. Today, a new user Jasonjsavage (talk · contribs) appeared, making substantially the same edits to Vanessa-Mae (history).

I'm not an admin and not sufficiently familiar with Wikipedia sock puppetry to say whether this constitutes being a sock puppet; or might just be a good-faith attempt by the guy to re-register with a more acceptable user name (although I think he should have gone the WP:UNC route instead, if that's the case). Can you opine? TJRC (talk) 22:13, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is a little more complicated. They may have a COI, and they may be a paid account which they should disclose. I would bring this to ANI. In the meantime, I left a notice to them. -- Alexf(talk) 22:51, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Vanessa-Mae

Dear Sir, I am new to Wikipedia so not entirely sure how to go about this. I apologise if this is not the correct channel.

I have been trying to add to the page Vanessa-Mae. The page currently casts unfair suspicion on Vanessa-Mae by including a large amount of material on her ban by the International Ski Federation, a rather sour reference to her acquittal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport but no information at all on the International Olympic Committee's decision to allow her to keep her Olympic result and the highly relevant damages settlement and public apology from the International Ski Federation. Without this information to balance the existing negative material, the page is actually defamatory!

Please note that I am not being paid to edit this page as has been suggested and I have only used material in the public domain from credible media sources. I am a fan but I believe that I had worded everything sufficiently matter-of-factly.

I also added some information on Vanessa-Mae's charity work over the years which has also been deleted. I don't understand why? It was not promotional and it was all accurate and properly researched and referenced.

I look forward to hearing from you.

The_Rock_Alchemist

Hi Alexf, Can I ask you because the The_Rock_Alchemist 's page was deleted? This is a band with 2 album published with label and worldwide distribution. It even reached some top chart in the world! Let me know.. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stevespeed777 (talkcontribs) 07:15, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article had no references asserting notability for bands. If you have them, and can assert it meets the minimum requirements; (they were pointed to in the deletion notice), then I could userfy the article for you to work on, upon request. BTW, it would be nice if you had linked to the article: The Rock Alchemist. Makes it easier to find. Please remember to properly sign your posts in Talk pages. -- Alexf(talk) 10:21, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page deleted

Dear AlexF,

the page I created, of the artist Lino Schwarz (I hope that here creates a red link, I'm not sure) has been deleted like two days after it's creation, I think the reason was that he wasn't relevant enough or something.

I'm one of his gallerists and think it's quite important for him to have a tab on Wikipedia as he's an pretty fast upcoming artist. What do I have to do to keep it online?

Lycro (talk) 15:00, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It did not assert notability under artist requirements. If you consider it does, we can userfy it to you so you can work on it. As-is, it could not stay. Wikipedia does not work on "relevant" but on notable subjects. Being "quite important for him to have a tab on Wikipedia", as you put it, is advertising and seriously against the goals of the Project. If you want to advertise a "pretty fast upcoming artist" (as you put it), please get a website, or a blog. This is not the place. Once the artist is established, and independent reliable sources have written about him, then somebody not connected will eventually write an encyclopedic article. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 15:11, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note, the link you removed to the Paul Motian interview was not spam, nor was it an attempt at self promotion. The article linked to was in fact directly referenced by name in Paul's obituary in the New York Times. It was probably the most relevant and informative reference in the Wikipedia article. 02 March 2017

Jersey Strong Foundation Deletion

Good morning Alex,

Hope all is well. We are trying to create a page for our foundation, the [Jersey Strong Foundation], but it keeps getting taken down. I've taken out any links that could be seen as copyright infringement, but doesn't seem to stick. Could you please advise?

It is not a question of "sticking", but a question of notability, copyright issues, and conflicts of interest. Questions about how Wikipedia works, should be asked at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 14:31, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Alex. As far as notability, the foundation has donated over $500K to nonprofits throughout New Jersey since Hurricane Sandy. Regarding copyright issues -- we have taken out any links that could be viewed as promotional. We've read a multitude of articles, and visited the Tea House, but still doesn't seem as though we can correctly abide by Wikipedia's strict regulations. We're simply trying to inform the public of this nonprofit entity whose looking to continue their altruism from here out. If you could please advise/assist, it'd be greatly appreciated! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhubler (talkcontribs) 14:59, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. When you say "trying to inform the public", that is the definition of promotional. Having donated money does not make an organization notable. You also seem to be confusing copyright and promotional, as you stated above ("Regarding copyright issues -- we have taken out any links that could be viewed as promotional"). Note that Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously (as you just saw). Also you refer to "we". That is also against Wikipedia's rules. Please read the help files or ask questions at the Tea House as instructed. This is not the place to get instructions. Please remember to sign your posts in Talk pages properly by adding four tildes. -- Alexf(talk) 15:20, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion of page titled: Jennyanykind

Hi Alex,

I created the page Jennyanykind several years ago and did not finish it. I am the original founder of the band. The speedy deletion cites a copyright violation with the Facebook Jennyanykind page. I, along with my twin brother Mark (band member), also created that page and added the content. There are plans to re-release the band's 1996 Elektra release Revelater on vinyl in the not too distant future, so I have a gathered second wind to create a basic page for the band that includes a history and discography (to start). May I ask that the page be un-deleted? Please advise if this is an option. I'd be happy to provide additional information as requested.

Best,

Michael Holland

Ncbootlegger (talk) 16:08, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Always remember to link to the article, especially if that old (2014), else it is hard to find: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jennyanykind. As-is it cannot be undeleted as it was a copyvio. Wikipedia takes copyright violations seriously. You say you are a founder of the band. Regardless of it being notable under WP:BAND (I've no idea as the subject is outside of my interests), having a conflict of interest is frowned upon. Sleeper account?

FYI, A user you recently blocked, TurdNerd548, created User:Cenajonh, "(so i can edit more articles and help make wikipedia a better place)." Dan D. Ric (talk) 00:35, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked. -- Alexf(talk) 01:51, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:MDIT Polytechnic College

I know you blocked User talk:MDIT Polytechnic College. That's fine. Bish blocked his second account. I didn't delete userpages or block because I thought if he arrived at talked right away, it could have ended another way. I left fully expecting to return to see softer or spamublocks. So, no worries and a fair block considering the two pages he created. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:53, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Over 4 hours elapsed between your warning and the block. Given the clear username violation, the account was blocked. -- Alexf(talk) 11:07, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That was plenty of time. Had I been at the keyboard, I would have given it less time. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:12, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alex, I'm Mohamed Sami, I received a message from you about adding external links, my intention was to add extra information which can help users to have a different perspective on the same subject when I saw the warning message I canceled the edit to eliminate any conflicts as these are actually my personal blog links. I just wanted to add them as some of my articles are cited in many blogs and journals as well. Thank you for your message. I hope I did explain my intention of editing :) and have a good day /Mohamed Sami

Blogs are not reliable sources, therefore they are generally not acceptable (with very special exceptions). Your own blog has a conflict of interest and it is spamming, so please don't. Please remember to sign your posts in talk pages buy adding four tildes at the end. -- Alexf(talk) 21:44, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User Drakos118

Hey, you blocked Drakos118 (talk · contribs) for personal attacks after i reverted some of his edits. Now 2A02:587:7935:C500:C10A:7659:6A11:AAB4 (talk · contribs) popped up and is doing the same edits. What to do? Kante4 (talk) 13:22, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Respect personal rights and companies rights!
