Disambiguation: Rhianna yes/no/how?

Sooner or later we should develop a consensus whether in the hatnote,

My position: The original name is Rhianna, Rihanna is but a spelling variation, but as the name is not too well-known, the Barbadian singer's fame might lead people to believe that Rihanna is the correct spelling, even if they look for some Rhianna. Therefore, I think mentioning the disambiguation page Rhianna is appropriate. On the other hand, Rhianna (singer) is IMHO not relevant enough to be mentioned in the hatnote explicitly. And then, the disambiguation page seems to be an acceptable compromise. Can we find a consensus this or another way? --KnightMove (talk) 17:59, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I still don't feel "Rhianna" is worth mentioning as it isn't really connected with this singer and nobody (to my knowledge) has confused the two or is likely to do so. Paul's addition is more understandable since they have the same name, though the general Rihanna DAB is enough by itself. Snuggums (talk / edits) 18:04, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
How could such a misunderstanding, or any other like this, be proven? This same name has an original spelling, Rhianna, and a now dominant spelling, Rihanna. I think this is enough.
Of the 37k transclusions of Template:Distinguish, would this be an exception? There is also a disambiguation in Aurochs to European bison and many others which are much more far-fetched than this one. --KnightMove (talk) 21:17, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd forgotten about this; I suppose Rhianna (singer) doesn't have the same profile as this particular Rihanna, so don't know if people would confuse the two. I certainly didn't know there were two of them until shortly before I made the edit shown above. I guess a link to Rihanna (disambiguation) and Rhianna (disambiguation) might be appropriate. I note that Rhianna has a hatnote directing readers to this page. This is Paul (talk) 18:10, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@both: It's not required the two singers to be confused, but the spelling. If someone hears of the singer, or any other person named Rhianna, and has not been familiar with the name before, it's very likely that he will believe her to be spelled Rihanna, like the singer he knows. Such is the case for most applications of Template:Distinguish. --KnightMove (talk) 21:17, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The only person I can fathom people could possibly confuse this Rihanna with is the other singer linked above given that they both go by the singular name. Nobody would think of them with last names added unless it was Fenty (here) or Kenny (there). Adding any other names to it definitely distinguishes them from both singers. Rihanna's Article Page- Evaluations

I am obsessed with Rihanna I love everything about her, what she stands for, her vocals, the message in her music, etc. Overall I thought the article on Wikipedia greatly represents who she is and all of her accomplishments. Starting from her early life in Barbados to stardom in NYC but there is a small section of the article that just gave me very one sided vibes. The appearance part is what I want to touch on because I felt that it was not necessarily sexist but that the appearance section focused a lot on her body image and how "sexy" she is, instead of focusing on how beautiful she is inside and out, on her goals as a woman and possibly empowerment. I think it's great how recognized she is for her beauty but I also feel that her appearance overpowers her talent and people are judging her based on looks only, when they're missing so much of her; the dedication and handwork she puts into her music, how much of a realist she is, and how proximity hasn't changed her outlook on anything. Socks

This article is the target of a longtime sock puppeteer MariaJaydHicky. She is obsessed with removing or downplaying "pop" as a genre and promoting R&B, often removing pop and adding R&B or, as here, moving pop dswn the list in favor of pop. She is currently editing here as Virgingirl and has previously edited here under the now indefed socks Addamchewy and Chevyoncé. There are likely others, including IPs. Feel free to revert any/all of her edits, without need for explanation, per WP:EVADE. - SummerPhDv2.0 16:48, 22 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Genres

I am proposing a change to the order listing of Rihanna's genres regarding R&B and Pop. Her music seems to be more Pop orientated than R&B, and hence think it should be moved to the forefront as opposed to the latter. Looking at her bio description on Allmusic[1] :

Genre: Pop/Rock - R&B

Styles:Dance-pop - Pop - EDM - Contemporary R&B

Other sources such as Billboard emphasise her pop notability in a countdown of her songs: "The pop powerhouse has done it all, from EDM to R&B to power ballads".[2]

She is clearly a predominant Pop artist whose also significant within its sub-genres, as opposed to R&B. Khaire Nuh (talk) 15:36, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

AllMusic's sidebar isn't to be used, it's not a reliable source and why are you worrying so much about it? It's a pointless exercise, no one really cares about this issue rather than yourself. 81.128.173.188 (talk) 09:47, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Add the achievement of Harvard University's Humanitarian of the Year Award in the third paragraph of the introduction and under the 'Philanthropy' section.

Partly done: Added to the Philanthropy section. I do not think this sufficiently rises to be important enough for the third paragraph in the introduction. -- Dane talk 21:59, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed usage of DMY and British English instead of MDY and American English which is not correct.

Rihanna is from Barbados, and as a result of British rule over Barbados for hundreds of years until its independence in 1966, British customs have applied and continue to do so in a variety of ways. The Barbados article uses DMY and uses British English, so why does Rihanna's bio and all articles related directly to her, such as albums, songs and tours, use the American date format and dialect spelling? It is incredibly inconsistent. I applied DMY and BE to some of her song articles, but I was reverted multiple times because one person doesn't like it. Despite the fact that BRD is an optional method, I am posting here regardless. We use MDY and American English for Mariah Carey because she is American. We use DMY and British English for Adele because she is British. We use DMY and Australian English for Kylie Minogue because she is Australian. So why are we using the American formats for Rihanna when she isn't American and doesn't have American citizenship. She is from Barbados and they use DMY and British English. There needs to be consistency with this.  — Calvin999 08:55, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Add: Shontelle uses DMY, and so do some of her music articles. She is also Barbadian.  — Calvin999 09:20, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Rihanna is hip hop and reggae"

According to the Infobox here. What this article says:

"Rihanna's music has encompassed a broad range of genres; including dancehall, reggae and soca, as well as pop, R&B, dubstep, hip hop and electronic dance music."

What the source cited says:

"..her music incorporates elements of pop, R&B, dubstep, hip-hop and electronic dance music."

Both should be removed from the Infobox. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 01:27, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quickly skimming the edits and the article: Hip hop seems to be verified in the article. Reggae seems to be an influence, especially in her earliest work. --Ronz (talk) 16:17, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
reggae and hip hop are sourced correctly only dance seems to be weak, if you listen to her music; reggae is a prominent genre, she only really dabbles in dance. --OntheJ.Lothisrebirth (talk) 16:40, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@OntheJ.Lothisrebirth: Could you point out where is sourced correctly? Reading the source itself, it says her music incoporates -elements- of hip-hop; and her early work was -inspired- by reggae. It is not saying she's a hip-hop or reggae artist. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 18:02, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Cornerstonepicker: You still need establish a consensus; and besides Music of the Sun and A Girl like Me were reggae; she began her career doing reggae too; how can you deny that when it is mentioned in the article and on Good Girl Bad? --OntheJ.Lothisrebirth (talk) 18:31, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The WP:ONUS for inclusion rests on those arguing for it, moreso in BLPs.
The sources provided so far do not support it. --Ronz (talk) 20:06, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Music of the Sun is her debut album, A Girl like Me (Rihanna album) is her second. This article states reggae was one of her early influences, which is what I referred to. Is that enough to include "reggae" in the infobox when she has six subsequent albums in the decade since? I'm not sure, and without proper sourcing it should probably remain out. --Ronz (talk) 20:28, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"Inspired" or "influenced" doesn't mean it's the main genre. For example, I understand she makes Reggae-inspired Pop music; R&B with hip hop elements. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 21:06, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well yeah, look at Pink's article in 2000, she released Can't Take Me Home which was R&B and then moved to pop and rock but she still has R&B in her info box and also in the article they mention Rihanna's reggae and dancehall roots so yeah in a way it should stay. --OntheJ.Lothisrebirth (talk) 21:03, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for rejoining the discussion.
look at Pink's article This article is about Rihanna, and sources are needed if there's going to be any consensus to include it, or any other related content like this which removes the emphasis from the source and replaces it with information that fails verification. --Ronz (talk) 21:23, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
