How to get the Article "Carsten Momsen" from German Wikipedia to English Wikipedia in translated version?

How to transfer the above mentioned article from German to English Wikipedia ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by H.Olmes (talkcontribs) 02:02, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You do it yourself. It's fine to retain any non-English references, provided they are of adequate quality. Depending on the article, Google Translate, plus your own good sense and subject familarity might suffice; however, this isn't encouraged.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:29, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to upload new wiki article

Hi Am a footwear designer for brand swatimodo Please advise how can i upload my article My brand is 11 years old and with much credits to its name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.224.144.91 (talk) 08:13, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean that you want to create an article about Swati Mehrotra [1], that may be possible but not easy.
You have some reading to do: Wikipedia:Your first article, WP:Notability (people), WP:Conflict of interest and WP:Promotion. Let's add WP:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing and WP:Autobiography as well. If, after reading those, you decide to have a go at it, good luck! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:54, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
All of that is important, but the absolutely essential one is notability. Any article on a notable subject (person or company), no matter how poor, can be improved and retained. Any article on a non-notable subject, no matter how brilliantly written, will be deleted. Therefore, step one is to convince your self that the subject is notable by our definition, not yours. See WP:N, and specifically WP:NCORP for a company. -Arch dude (talk) 16:02, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User registered vandal with puppet accounts

The user Greatwish, it's a puppet account of Enciclopiedicomutante, Nicert, Canary88 and Atlantecan. All these are puppet accounts that have been blocked in Spanish, see here Canary88, But he continues to create puppet accounts to vandalize. How To Edit Title Or Delete Draft Article

I started a draft article but want to edit the title or delete the article and create a new article with new title. How do I do it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pequena Princesa (talkcontribs) 10:29, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Since this account appears to not be autoconfirmed, you can request renaming a draft here. If you would like to delete your draft you can put {{db-g13}} on top of the draft you want to delete and an administrator will delete it for you. Mstrojny (talk) 11:44, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pequena Princesa: The more usual CSD criterion for deletion of a draft you have created woul be {{Db-g7}}. G13 is used for drafts that have been 'abandoned' (not edited for more than 6 months). However, your editing history does not show an edit in draft space. Which draft are you referring to and what would be the reason for deletion? Please do not ask the same question in multiple locations. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 12:07, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Checking the Featured article candidate

    Hi there,

Just a question, does connect Wikipedia pages to each other matter when checking the Featured article candidates?

    Sincerely

    White Timber Kimberly (talk) 21:57, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

White Timber Kimberly The Featured article criteria page doesn't explicitly mention wikilinks, but it does refer us to the style guidelines, which include a section on wikilinks. So this would be something to check: whether links are "relevant and helpful", not too numerous, and pointing to the right articles: Bhunacat10 (talk), 23:06, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
White Timber Kimberly You are right in that there is no formal standard, but there is an expectation that red links are kept to a minimum. There is at least one current FAC that's being challenged on having too many red links Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:39, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Let me get straight to the point: This user thinks an article on Chinese Wikipedia does not meet the FA criteria due to too many red links and some other reasons (like lack of sufficient sources). We know that different communities have different criteria for FA, but we still want to seek advice from your community whether too many red links like that article will make the article not fit for an FA (Regardless of other factors). You could consider it assuming this happens to the local corresponding article Cleveland Centennial half dollar (That article is translated from this article). Hi all. I need help deleting this reference on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modding_in_Grand_Theft_Auto http://thesqeez.com/probably-the-best-gta-5-mod-firebreathing-demon-kitty/ The link goes to a page where you're given the fake "win and iPhone" contest and the like, and you can't back out of the page. It keeps saying do you want to leave and if you say yes it just reloads. I tried to delete it myself but it only shows the template for references and not the links themselves.

The link that needs to be removed isn't there.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.0.99.18 (talk) 23:08, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are indeed correct. I have now removed the link from the page. Thanks a lot for catching that and letting us know! Yes, a lot of the time, the content of references is not stored in the references section itself. The easiest way to find where the content of a ref is stored is to edit the whole page (e.g. the edit button at the very top of the page) and control+F for the URL of the designated article; then remove the whole citation template and the <ref> and </ref> tags on either side of it. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for reporting!--SkyGazer 512 My talk page 23:21, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Cite error

Can someone please fix the references in My Way (Usher album)? Musicfan122 (talk) 00:26, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! doesn't the BBC source in the following sentence cite it? Musicfan122 (talk) 01:20, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Animal lifespans

Go on over to Wikipedia:WikiProject Animals and discuss this with the guys that are interested: they may be able to work with you on this. Also check out our sister project Wikispecies, where this sort of datum might be a better fit. IMO, an article like this should be weeded of everything that can't be cited to a reliable secondary source that says "yep, that's about homelessness." Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:50, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you're not implying that a WP-guideline has greater weight than my opinion? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:03, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can see, the disambiguation page Irish Republican Army (disambiguation) is fully redundant to the article Irish Republican Army, giving an overview over exactly the same historical groups listed in the disambiguation. I would suggest to delete the disambiguation, however... would it be 'legal' to link the overview article to disambiguation pages in other languages? Or is there a rule against that? --KnightMove (talk) 20:47, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@KnightMove: I understand your point, but an explicit disambiguation page serves an additional function. It acts as a flag when a user adds a link to an ambiguous subject. Unfortunately, that function doesn't work in this case, because the overview/history article is has the same name as the overall subject, so we lose that advantage of a dab. In an ideal world, we would rename that article and keep the dab. The other main problem is Wikidata. When we have a one-to-many or (worse) a many-to-many mapping among articles on different Wikipedias, the Wikidata entities are a mess. I'm sorry but all I have for you is these two complaints instead of helpful suggestions. -Arch dude (talk) 23:21, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Arch dude: Thanky - but now I've gotten a hint to the guidelines, and it seems that this is a Special case where you could legally link disambiguation pages & overview articles in Wikidata, which works with including a __DISAMBIG__ in the articles. Do you agree? --KnightMove (talk) 13:18, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@KnightMove: I do agree. I think it's the least-bad approach. To really finish this off, you should technically redirect the current dab page to the overview article and formally designate the overview article as a dab (which will add the "DISAMBIG"), and then slog through all the incoming links to the article to see which of them is really for the overview and which are for specific articles. Each inbound link should be modified to either point to the explicit dab redirect (if it's really for the overview) or to point to the correct subarticle: there should be no direct links to the new dab (i.e., the overview article). I did not check to see the size of the incoming links list. -Arch dude (talk) 18:43, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping an eye on naughty editors

I'd like to "watch" the contribution pages of a couple of prolific editors who choose not to cite sources at all, so as to approach them on their next misstep in a timely manner. Contributions pages cannot be "watched". Is there any way of being notified when they strike again?--Quisqualis (talk) 07:09, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Quisqualis. Watch their talk pages and see if other editors express concern about specific matters. Watch their favorite pages to edit. When you are motivated, take a look at their contributions. Look for patterns. Are they mostly productive but occasionally screw up? Then assist them kindly. Engage in discussion, assuming good faith. Are they persistently disruptive? Then report them to the appropriate noticeboard. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 07:23, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Quisqualis: do be sure not to cross the line into wikihounding, however. – Teratix 08:44, 11 March 2019 (UTC))[reply]
Thanks, my plan is to escalate the template warnings if they persist in refusing to cite sources, then get others involved (WP:AIV).--Quisqualis (talk) 08:49, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Quisqualis: That feature likely doesn't exist native on Wikipedia, to prevent hounding, but there's no reason you couldn't install a plugin that alerts you when the contributions page changes. I found at least two that you could try: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/check4change/ or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/distill-web-monitor-ff/ TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 00:41, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    My Article was deleted

Team, I wanted to confirm the reason for my article deletion which has some steps in order to activate a particular Gadget. As we all know the steps to anything will remain same and can be guided or documented in same order. I have used my own words and designed it in a user friendly way, as there was no article for the same. I apologize if there was some issues with the policy metrics, but there was nothing Illogical or Copied content. Please share how can i fix it and replace the same with a new article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sethkaran (talkcontribs) 16:43, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Sethkaran: The reason your material was deleted is that Wikipedia does not deal in manuals, how-to's or guides. It's just not our ambit as an encyclopedia. You wouldn't expect to find this kind of guide in the Encyclopedia Britannica, would you? There's plenty of places on the web where this kind of content is exactly what is wanted, however. For example, you might wish to have a look at WikiHow. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:51, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
More to the point, the above is irrelevant since your article was a verbatim copyright violation of this page. We don't accept copyright violations under any circumstances, even if the article is on a topic that's suitable for Wikipedia. ‑ Iridescent 17:09, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Sethkaran: Welcome to Wikipedia! Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a manual. Your article was useful, but it is better posted in another outlet, such as a blog or forum post. You are more than welcome to continue contributing in different ways, as long as your articles can fit well into a general encyclopedia. — Stevey7788 (talk) 04:17, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Elmidae and Stevey7788:, that's now two of you who have advised the OP to do something illegal. Copyright violations are never "better posted in another outlet", and are equally illegal whether posted to Wikipedia, WikiHow, or a personal blog. ‑ Iridescent 07:25, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Iridescent is correct and nobody should post copyright violations, anywhere close, whether on Wikpedia or on more lenient websites. If you want to post original content anywhere online, then write that content in your own 100% originally written words. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 07:35, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Iridescent: Iridescent, thanks for pointing this out. Sorry I missed your other reply. I agree with you fully on this one if it's copyrighted material. I would by no means recommend copyright violations. Sethkaran, please refrain from posting any copyrighted information anywhere, whether on this site or elsewhere. Content translation tool

I just got a notification that I've never seen before:

Your translation for Chaume (agriculture) was discarded because its content was outdated by more than a year. Start a new translation with fresh content anytime.

Clicking on the notification, I see that I'm taken to a page for a French article, fr:chaume (agriculture), which can't be translated because it already exists in English (stover). I'm also told that I can't do it, because This utility is currently restricted to extended confirmed editors on the English Wikipedia, see WP:CXT for more information. Extended confirmed...I think I'm there by now :-) And I've never used the content translation tool, as far as I'm aware; I've probably clicked it once or twice by mistake (primarily at other wikis), but I wouldn't have done anything with it. Any idea why I would be getting this note, and why the tool would attempt to restrict me from using it? Nyttend (talk) 04:36, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The message is from phab:T184268. I don't know why you got a notification but maybe you did once start a translation. phab:T218027 from yesterday is about others getting such notifications. Does Wikipedia have any rule or policy on red wiki-links? Basically, this is my understanding. A red wiki-link means that the linked topic does not have a Wikipedia article (as opposed to a blue link). If the article is likely to never get created, using a red link makes little sense. At the same time, a red link may encourage someone to go ahead and create a needed article. So, it's a balancing act (i.e., determining whether a new article is needed or not and, hence, whether a red link is needed or not). So, do we have any rules or policies? If so, where are they located? Thanks. PS: Also, I believe many editors see red links and get rid of them, believing that they "distract" the reader from the article and, also, that they "mess up" the articles in which they appear.
