Garbalia is a medium rural area in the Howrah district of West Bengal, India. It is a part of the Jagatballavpur bloc in the Howrah Sadar subdivision in the north-eastern part of the Howrah. Garbalia is 38 km from the state's capital, Kolkata. The nearest towns are Munshirhat, Bargachia and Pantihal. The nearest police station is Jagatballavpur. Garbalia, along with its neighbouring villages -Ichhapur, Pratappur, Tripurapur, Nimabalia, Kumarpur, Badebalia, Jamunabalia, North Sealdanga, South Sealdanga, Ranmahal and Nijbalia are together called Greater Balia Pargana. The coordinates of Garbalia are 22°37′56″N 88°06′48″E / 22.632307°N 88.113421°E / 22.632307; 88.113421.[1] The PIN code of Garbalia is 711410. Garbalia is on Howrah-Amta bus route or Munshirhat-Sankrail trekker route. The nearest rail stations are Pantihal (about 3.1 km away), Munshirhat (about 4.0 km away) and Bargachia (about 5.7 km away).

Garbalia is connected with Grand Trunk Road by Howrah-Amta Road and it is also connected with Kona Expressway (Mumbai-Kolkata Highway) by Pantihal-Dhulagarh Road. Garbalia is connected with South-Eastern Railway by Howrah-Amta Local Railway.

Education

Garbalia Rakhal Chandra Manna Institution (Estd-1937) is the only higher secondary School in Balia Pargana which is located in Ichhapur village and it is also second oldest secondary and oldest higher secondary school[2] in Jagatballavpur Block. There is also a secondary girl's school in Balia Pargana which is Garbalia Girl's High School and it is also located at Ichhapur village. There are also numerous Primary Schools in Balia Pargana. The nearest college is Sovarani College which is located at Jagatballavpur.

Culture

Singhabahini Temple (located at Nizbalia Market Area), Buripukur Kali Temple(located at Ichapur), Durga Temple and Kali Temple (located at Tripurapur) are four significant Cultural places located in Balia Pargana.

Healthcare facilities

The nearest primary block level hospital is located at Jagatballavpur. Numerous other rural health centers and medicine or apothecary stores are also present in Balia Pargana.

Market

There are mainly two markets located in Balia Pargana. The first is located in Nizbalia and called "Bele Bazar".It is the biggest and key marketplace in Balia Pargana.The second market is located at Khanderghat-Nimabalia area.

Post Offices

Balia Pargana consists of three post offices, which are- Garbalia, Nijbalia and Sealdanga. Among them the Nijbalia post office belongs to Pantihal Panchayat and the rests belong to Sealdanga Panchayat.

There are now total 4 banks in the Balia Pargana. One of them is Indian Overseas Bank which is located at Ichapur and rests are local Govt. owned or private rural banks. There are also several others ATM facility located in Balia Pargana.
