Oxana Fedorova (Oksana Fyodorova, Оксана Федорова in Russian) (born December 17, 1977) is a Russian Miss Universe winner (dethroned), police officer , television hostess , actress, and UNICEF representative.

Fedorova is a Russian woman who became the first Miss Russia to win the Miss Universe contest. She began in the entertainment business as a model and became Miss St. Petersburg in 1999 and Miss Russia in 2001, but declined to go to the Miss Universe 2001 pageant (where her runner-up Oxana Kalandyrets was a semifinalist).

Early life

Childhood

Oxana Fedorova was born in Pskov, Russia, where she lived until age 18. Fedorova is an only child, she was brought up by her mother and maternal grandparents. According to Fedorova, her grandparents  were very demanding to her.

Fedorova's parents divorced when she was three years old, after that, she never has met father. Her father was a nuclear physicist mother was working as a nurse at the Psychiatric hospital(she is retired.) In the school Fedorova played volleyball she won the championship by the urban tournament in 1995. In the high school of the police Fedorova blew the sax as a member of the brass band that it gave a concerts in the evenings.

Cadet and beauty queen

Fedorova after graduating from the high school of the police with a red diploma and worked as an inspector in Pskov militia for six months. Then Fedorova moved to St. Petersburg to study at the MVD University. In St. Petersburg Fedorova worked as an investigator at the Pulkovo Transport Police and was a student of the MVD University. Fedorova also began to work as a model and joined beauty pageants she was named Miss St. Petersburg 1999 Miss Kalokagathia 1999 Miss Fitness, Miss Fortune and Miss Russia 2001. Fedorova graduated from the MVD University with a gold medal in 2000. After that, Fedorova entered the post graduate course of the same university. When Fedorova was writing the dissertation regulating privacy and security activities there, she was teaching the civil law to younger students. Fedorova's biggest fan base was among police colleagues.

Competition

The 2002 Miss Universe contest, held in San Juan Puerto Rico In the contest, it was clear whom the judges have in mind for the crown for Federova won both the swimsuit and evening gown segments by a large margin over the other nine semi-finalists In fact, her score of 9.88 in the swimsuit competition was the highest televised score ever for that event in the history of the pageant.

Question and answer

When the top 5 answered questions submitted by another delegate, Fedorova picked Miss Costa Rica's question which was,"If your life was a videotape, what would you erase and what would you replay? " Fedorova answered in Russian through an translator: "I would first like to talk about my childhood, because it was a very pleasant experience, and then I would talk about my life. I would like for my life to be shown from the beginning to the end." The final question was "What makes you blush?" Fedorova answered through a translator "When I say the wrong things!"

After crowning

Fedorova was showered with honors awards and presents. Noted Russian doll designer Helen Yarmak even dedicated a doll to her. Fedorova traveled France , Italy , Kenya , Canada and Greece as Miss Universe 2002. Controversy soon loomed ahead for the Russian Miss Universe winner however, as Fedorova was later rumored to be pregnant.

Dethroned

Fedorova denied the rumors and stated that she voluntarily gave up her crown for personal reasons, mainly because she wanted to finish her law degree. Officially, she was dethroned for failing to perform the numerous duties expected of a Miss Universe titleholder. It was Panama's Justine Pasek her first runner-up, who became the new Miss Universe and, at the same time, becoming her country's first Miss Universe. Fedorova also became the first Miss Universe who officially did not finish her reign (although Amparo Muñoz ofSpain was "unofficially" dethroned in 1974). Although the Miss Universe organization refuses to recognize Fedorova as a former Miss Universe she is generally regarded as one by the public.

Police officer

Fedorova obtained a Ph.D in Civil Law in September 2002. Fedorova is still continuing her police officer's career , her police rank was promoted to the captain in September 2002 and was promoted to the major in 2005.

Celebrity

Since the end of her reign, Fedorova became a household name by hosting the most popular children's television show in the country.

Fedorova has hosted the number one children's television show, Spokoinoi Nochi, Malyshi ("Good Night, Kids") since December 2002. InOctober 2003 Fedorova's children's television show, Spokoinoi Nochi, Malyshi won the best children's show prize in TEFI. (TEFI are Russian television production awards.)

Fedorova was a presenter the reality television show Fort Boyard Russian version in 2003 and2004 seasons. Fedorova became one of the judges the reality television show You are super model in 2004. Fedorova has co-hosted a home improvement television show Subbotnik since September 2004. On the New Year's Eve of 2004 Fedorova co-hosted a special program to celebrate the New Year. In October 2005 Fedorova received Russian Club of Orthodox Maecenases Awards for "Active Participation in Development of Social Projects." Fedorova did the judge Miss Kursk Pageant in 2006. Fedorova back on Fort Boyard 2006 season as a contestant. In 2006 Fedorova also acting debut,in March, she appeared in the top-rated Russian television sitcom If You Are Not Born Beautiful, and in September her first film Sofia was released. As of December 2006 now Fedorova has been appearing on the television show , Dancing With The Stars 2 Russian Version,in addition to hosting Spokoinoi Nochi, Malyshi and Subbotnik.

Political candidate

Fedorova has become active in politics as a candidate for the Russian Party of Life. In December 2003 Fedorova ran from Russian Party of Life for Russian State Duma elections , but defeated. When 2004 Presidential Elections Fedorova was agent of Sergey Mironov who is leader ofRussian Party of Life During elections , Fedorova revealed her support for Sergey Mironov as his agent. In March 2005 although Fedorova again ran for in regional Voronezh Duma elections she did not get a post in the Voronezh Regional Duma. In August 2005 some Russian newspapers including Komsomolskaya Pravda expected Fedorova will try to win a seat in the upper house representing the Tula Region, but she didn't, Fedorova told news media that she have put her political career.

Social activist

Fedorova became co-charman Energy of Life - Youth movement of Russian Party of Life in 2003. Fedorova has been representing UNICEF in Russia since May 2006.

Personal life

Sports

During her school days, Fedorova participated in volleyball, hand-to-hand fighting and shooting. Her speed to take-apart and assemble a Kalashnikov rifle was one of her specialities , she called firing weapons "my favorite pastime."

Animal

Fedorova especially likes dogs, she has a Terrier, a Mastiff and two Shepards.

Religion

Fedorova is Orthodox Christian.

Marriage

Fedorova has often told the media that she would like to be a mother but at present, she is single and has no children. According to an interview Fedorova thinks that the head in the family should be a man.

The Miss Russia organization

The Miss Russia organization has been embroiled in several controversies: after its original delegate to Miss Universe 2003 won the Miss Europe title, a series of replacements were appointed. Among them was an underage contestant and a former Playboy model both of whom were disqualified by the Miss Universe Organization. Olesya Bondarenko, the first runner-up to Miss Russia that year, finally traveled to Panama where she did not place, prompting the Russian national directors to charge fraud. This series of events, combined with Russian charges that due to Oxana Fedorova their delegates would forever be at a disadvantage at the Miss Universe contest, prompted the Miss Universe Organization to strip the Russian license from the pageant and grant it to the Rambler organization. Since 2004 the new Miss Universe Russia group has held an online vote to determine the national representatives from Russia to Miss Universe.
