Hi Chanakl,
I think the denominator when calculating the percentage increase should be the previous day cumulative value. So I changed your edit accordingly. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks :). [[User:Nishadhi|Nishadhi]] ([[User talk:Nishadhi|talk]]) 18:08, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Re:Image galleries

Quite simply, the English Wikipedia's policies have no bearing on the policies of other Wikipedias. Referencing our policies with regard to other projects doesn't really hold any water (unless, I suppose, they have a policy/guideline that tells you to do so). I'd be inclined to say that the article looks better without them, but that's probably because I'm used to seeing enwp articles without galleries; an argument could easily be made that they are a good thing. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. J Milburn (talk) 11:27, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hellooooo!!

How are you amigo. How is Goodnestone Park? OK? Dr. Blofeld 10:35, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps some time you could expand and reference Nuwara Eliya. Shockingly it has no sources!! You're doing a great job on the national parks though. Dr. Blofeld 11:54, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah we'll get around to that though, right now though we have 11 provinces of Vietnam to complete and I'm unsure whether Nvvchar wants to continue working with me at the moment. It would be good to promote some of your articles to GA I think, Sri Lanka needs more GAs I think. Dr. Blofeld 12:29, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hokey dokey. Yala NP we'll take to GA. Incidentally my parents visited there a while ago... Right now though I have a ton of Scottish county locator maps to start amidst my Vietnam provinces.... Dr. Blofeld 12:42, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fortunately the map maker already made them to saves me alot of time. I'll look into Yala in a few days after I've worked on those provinces articles. Regards. Dr. Blofeld 13:14, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here another that may interest you Zennor Quoit. Dr. Blofeld 16:45, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that's what I thought. I just salvaged Alghazaleen Tea from speedy. Perhaps you have a source or two to reference it. I was sure it was of some note. Dr. Blofeld 17:52, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks friend. That's perfect. It now demonstrates notability. Lucky I realised that it was encyclopedia worthy. Dr. Blofeld 09:48, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

dyk credit

Hi - I saw your work on expanding this baby. This DYK credit belongs to you and Testing times. No big deal, but I thought I'd put the record straight. Shiva (Visnu) 04:15, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You too keep up the good work - Sri Lanka is a beautiful and great country and we need to improve its coverage. I'd like to write at least one FA about Sri Lanka. PS - we're gonna beat you tonite (in cricket). Muhahahaha! Shiva (Visnu) 13:05, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Review request

Thanks for your kind welcome message. Could you please help me with getting these pages reviewed?

There are some issues related to the second page above which I've mentioned in its discussion page, mainly to do with a previous (still existing) page with some major mistakes. The content of the first is mine; the second is not. Thanks! --Foresterr (talk) 05:16, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That was quick! Thanks for the review and yes, by the time I had realized (actually, learned - I'm new to these things) it was a move that was needed for the second page, the damage was already done :s Live and learn, I guess. A move request has been made. --Foresterr (talk) 06:13, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have updated the Katukurunde Nanananda Thera article significantly, and thought it deserves a C-Class rating. In more ambitious moments I think it's probably B-Class too. Could you be so kind as to do a reality check for me? Many thanks. (Btw, my obsession with this article is due to a huge debt of gratitude I owe to that Venerable Thera.) --Foresterr (talk) 13:04, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stupidly marked the above request a minor edit. Took me a while to realize what they really are, even after the explicit link to an explanation. Just adding this to make sure you'd get a notification, in case you'd set to ignore minor edits. --Foresterr (talk) 14:10, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the kind comments. Vanity got the best of me there regarding the self-assessment: I knew it wasn't an advisable thing to do. I guess the article will have to remain C-Class (which I still think is justified) as the Venerable Thera opposes to his picture being taken (he, being just skin and bones, once pointed out a skeleton to one requester and asked her to take a photo of that instead), and I'm not sure about the copyright status of the one photo found online. I would honour his wish anyway and keep the article photo-less. Thanks for pointing out the Buddhism in Sri Lanka template. --Foresterr (talk) 05:06, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the DYK reminder. I've nominated the article under September 5 as that's when it was finalized, although the work started on the 2nd.
Regarding the requested move for Ven. Nanarama Mahathera, I'm OK with the content replacement as the edits are minor and can be redone. The article is in need of some serious overhaul anyway :S I see that almost all the Pali names in the bios are anglicized and not in Roman Pali, so it would be best for consistency to have the names without diacritics. This is also better for general web searches as a google search for nanarama would not show up a Ñāṇārama page, I guess (or does a redirect take care of that?). We can state the name in its full diacritical glory in the lead section, as has been done for Katukurunde Nanananda Thera. --Foresterr (talk) 06:18, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Katukurunde Nanananda Thera page got in to DYK. Thanks for your kind help! --Foresterr (talk) 01:43, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your attention is requested

Hi, There's a discussion over at WT:Copyright problems#Bundala National Park regarding some of your recent edits - I believe you may have inadvertently retained too much language directly from the Green report. I made some suggestions for possible fixes, but you may want to weigh in yourself. Best, MLauba (Talk) 00:42, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Angampora Wikipedia Page

Hi. I'm Nelliwinne and I have studied about Angampora Art for my university project. I saw that the Angampora page in Wikipedia is blank and I need to help to develop that page. I am writing a good artical on this and once I finished I need to upload it. I have a little knowledge on Wikipedia Editing and all. So please help me to do this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nelliwinne (talkcontribs) 18:03, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. This article came up for review on today's copyright problems board (here). I'm sorry to see one of your articles there; I know you care about copyright concerns and keep an eye out for them. As you know, I only recently dropped by to thank you for it. :) So I know that your problem here is inadvertent, and I will do what I can to help you learn to avoid it in the future. I have removed most of the material that was closely paraphrased. I'm afraid it followed much too closely for us to retain it without it being rewritten from scratch. :/ I know it's a serious pain in the neck to rewrite factual material like that, but I'm afraid we have no choice.

Let's look at a few examples from the text I removed.

The source says:

The sanctuary is the home of every species of waterbird resident in the country, and, during the northern winter, it is the final destination for countless numbers of waders of most species recorded in Sri Lanka.

The article said:

Bundala is the home of every waterbird species resident in Sri Lanka. The park is the final destination for many waders recorded in the country, during the northern hemisphere winter.

This combines bits and pieces of their language and their structure. I've bolded your version to make it easier to see how closely the language follows. Some of the language was moved or removed, but I've only bolded what was used in the source, even if rearranged.

Another example, the source says:

Bundala is the most important wetland for birds in Sri Lanka outside the Northern Province. Its lagoons are among the most important wintering areas for migratory shorebirds in the country, regularly accommodating over 15,000 shorebirds at any one time.

The article said:

Bundala is the most significant wetland for Sri Lankan birds outside the Northern Province. The park's lagoons are among the most important wintering ground for migratory shorebirds in the country. Bundala is regularly accommodating over 15,000 shorebirds at any one time.

Perhaps seeing them side by side, again with the bolding added, will help clarify why such content needed to be removed.

While facts are not copyrightable, creative elements of presentation - including both structure and language - are. When we follow too closely on these in our sources, we run the risk of creative derivative works, which are forbidden under the U.S. copyright law that governs us unless we have permission of the original copyright holders. Avoiding this is challenging, especially when you are writing factual articles. The essay Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing contains some suggestions for rewriting that may help avoid these issues. The article Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-04-13/Dispatches, while about plagiarism rather than copyright concerns, also contains some suggestions for reusing material from sources that may be helpful, beginning under "Avoiding plagiarism".

Again, I appreciate the work you do in guarding against copyright on Wikipedia. Now that you've run up against one of our more difficult copyright concepts, I want to be sure to do whatever is necessary to keep you from inadvertently running afoul of copyright yourself. I am very sure that you have no intentions of doing so.

I'm watchling your talk page so we can talk about this further. Just let me know. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:08, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Moonridengirl, for your detailed explanation. Your note is very cordial as they have ever been. I feel really sorry, I know that as a copyright cleanup helper, I must be careful on my own work. I know, It is very difficult to write factual statement in one's own words, especially Original Researching guidelines in your mind. Seems like I have worried too much of Original Researching. I determined to do well to refrain from the offense in the future. I am really sorry, if I have let you down after you've awarded me a barnstar. Regards--Chanaka L (talk) 03:57, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In spite of this, you deserve that barnstar. :) We have cleaned so many copyright violations because of you, and that hasn't changed. I still appreciate all you do. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:39, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's very solacing. Looking forward to contribute in this area and will try my best to stay away from trouble. Thanks for kind words. Regards--Chanaka L (talk) 03:21, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Frederic Waldock

Thanks for the note. I'm not sure there's enough "different" about him to make a DYK as it stands: the Somerset team of the period was often bulked out by amateur players whose main place of work/residence was one or other of the then colonies or dominions. What I couldn't find locally here is any information about his family interests in Sri Lanka. I presume he's something to do with Waldock Mackenzie, the Sri Lankan bank, but I can find little information on the company and none on his role within it, if he had one. Perhaps you're in a better place to find out such things than I am! Kind regards. Johnlp (talk) 12:49, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That looks promising. I'll look forward to seeing where you get. Johnlp (talk) 15:03, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's very interesting, and there seems to be a sporting connection all the way through, with Keell and Waldock coming together through their membership of the hockey and football club and through rugby union. Both Frederic and his brother Harold won blues at Oxford for rugby; Harold died in Colombo in 1923 aged just 24. Johnlp (talk) 08:02, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
More background is at http://anatpro.com/index_files/f2.htm#f212 (rather a wordy site, but the Waldocks are near the bottom of this page) and then, by links from that page, at http://anatpro.com/index_files/f2.htm#f183 where you get Frederic's grandparents who go to Sri Lanka as Baptist missionaries in 1862 and produce eight children. Frederic's younger brother has a Wikipedia entry: Humphrey Waldock. Johnlp (talk) 23:22, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Witch one is correct? "Sitha Amman Temple" or "Seetha Amman Temple"?

Hi friend, This is regarding the article you have written about Hakgala Botanical Garden. There you have used the name "Sita Amman Temple". I created another separate article for "Sitha Amman Temple" with the page title of "Seetha Amman Temple". Question I have is the correct way of spelling "Sitha Amman Temple". I saw in many web sites name of the place is spelled as "Seetha Amman Temple"(Two 'ee' s instead of 'i').What is the correct way of spelling that word? Is it 'Seetha' or 'Sitha'? Hi Chanakal, I hope you're well. My name is Aaron and I'm one of the Storytellers working on the 2011 fundraiser for the Wikimedia Foundation. For this year's campaign, we're interviewing as many of the very active and productive Wikipedians as we can to broaden the range of appeals we run come November. I wonder if you would want to tell me more about your experiences editing and writing here? If so, I'll ask you your personal story and I'll ask you some general questions about Wikipedia. Please let me know if you're interesting by emailing amuszalski@wikimedia.org. Thanks! user:Aaron (WMF)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:27, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka

Dear Chanakal,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK.

The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects.

With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors.

There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on.

See you on board, and Happy Editing!

File:Radella.JPEG has been proposed for deletion

The file File:Radella.JPEG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The uploader claims own work and has placed a Public Domain tag, but also claims the image was taken off a travel website, authored by "High Profile". In addition, it is a tiny image in which nothing can really be discerned clearly. Both these indicate the image was simply taken off of a website and uploaded here with no permission under a false claim of ownership and a false claim of the right to release the image into the public domain

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. - ක - (talk) 15:13, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MfD nomination of your Portal

Note. A portal which you created or substantially contributed to has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are most welcome and can participate in the discussion by adding your feedback at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Mixed bag of group portals. You are free to edit the content of the portal during the discussion, but you should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page. Such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you, –MJLTalk 00:25, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Linkin Park portal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Template:2019–20 coronavirus pandemic data/Sri Lanka

I reverted your edit because there was an error with day and its complementary number that indicating the number of patients. As we are taking the data for this chart from the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health we can not put the data for today (26). Ex: Yet we don't know about the number of patients today recorded. We have to wait until 10.00 HRS tomorrow to know about that value.--L Manju (talk) 11:41, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@L Manju: I think you got wrong diifs, I am afraid, I didn't enter today's recoveries. Your current version is wrong, That's why I reverted you earlier. Total patients for March 14th is three, not four, please check.--Chanaka L (talk) 11:53, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: See the last pdf released by the Epidemiology Unit (Situation Report 59 ( 10 : 00 HRS). The total patients count for March 14th was 11. See the graph--L Manju (talk) 12:05, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@L Manju: That's not how you should refer. For 14th March you should refer 14th march report.--Chanaka L (talk) 12:14, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Chanakal: No Chanaka, 14th March report gives us the update until 13th March. I saw the 14th March pdf (සිංහල). It has the update as follows, "නව කොරෝනා වෙෙරස් අාසාධනය දෙෙනික වාර්තාව 2020.03.14. පෙ.ව. 10. - ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ තත්වය, තහවුරු කරන ලද 6 රෝගියා 13.03.2020. දින රෝහල් ගත කරන ලදී. (ලාංකික 5. විදේශික 1)". So the 14th March report mentions the last patient as the one who was found on 13th March. Therefore, on the 13th March we should have 6 patients on our graph. So current version has 6 patients on 13th March with one recovered patient (that Chinese woman).--L Manju (talk) 12:27, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@L Manju: Found the cause of the discrepancy. The Sinhala and English versions of PDF are not tallying. I think we should stick to English pdf then. As an English source preferred to a Sinhala source for English speaking readers.--Chanaka L (talk) 12:33, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: Both Sinhala and English versions give same details. See what is on the 14th March report: "Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) - Situation Report – 14.03.2020 – 10.00am - Local Situation quarantined: Last confirmed patient identified on 13/03/2020, Total number of confirmed – 6 (1 foreign, 5 SL)". Both gives same.--L Manju (talk) 12:40, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@L Manju: I must have mixed up the dates. Sorry about that. However, total for the 13th march should be three, not four.--Chanaka L (talk) 03:38, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@L Manju: Why the total of 14th March is 11. Good gracious, Have you backdated data?--Chanaka L (talk) 03:43, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: Please see the graph given in the 27.03.2020 Situation Report 60 ( 10 : 00 HRS) English version. I prepared a complementary table for that graph as follows,
Date New patients Total patients notes
Jan 28 1 1 Chinese national (1st phase)
Mar 11 1 2 (beginning of the 2nd phase)
Mar 12 2 4
Mar 13 2 6
Mar 14 5 11
Mar 15 8 19
Mar 16 10 29
Mar 17 13 42
Mar 18 11 53
Mar 19 13 66
Mar 20 6 72
Mar 21 6 78
Mar 22 9 87
Mar 23 10 97
Mar 24 5 102
Mar 25 0 102 No new patients were recorded
Mar 26 4 106
Mar 27 ? ? Still to be recorded

March 14, the total number of patients was 11. Please now tell me where are the wrong data?--L Manju (talk) 06:45, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Date New patients Total patients notes
Jan 28 1 1 Chinese national (1st phase)
Mar 11 0 1 Second patient not included in this reprt, must have reported after 10 am.
Mar 12 1 2 second patient accounted. no new cases for this day.
Mar 13 1 3 third patient reported. second patient's frend. "Third confirmed patient identified on 12/03/2020. Total number of confirmed – 3"
Mar 14 3 6 "Total number of confirmed – 6"
Mar 15 5 11 Total number of confirmed – 11
I stopped at this point. @L Manju:--Chanaka L (talk) 11:26, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: Mar 11 report (Situation Report 44(10 : 00 HRS))contains the data recorded on 10 March. So the patient who detected on 11 March must be recorded in the report published on the next day, that means 12 March report. The Mar 12 report clearly states that the second patient was detected on 11 March - "Second confirmed patient identified on 11/03/2020". See that report. Now take a look at your table above. It says that Mar 11 there was no any patient recorded. See the Mar 14 report (Situation Report 47 ( 10 : 00 HRS)). It says- "Last confirmed patient identified on 13/03/2020 - Total number of confirmed – 6 (1 foreign, 5 SL)". Mar 13-See my table and yours--L Manju (talk) 15:59, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@L Manju: You are fucking unbelievable machan.
1. "Now take a look at your table above. It says that Mar 11 there was no any patient recorded." Nope, You have mistaken. I meant no new patients for 12th March.
2. "Last confirmed patient identified on 13/03/2020 - Total number of confirmed – 6 (1 foreign, 5 SL)" mean total as 14th March is six, not six more patients tested positive on that day. Unbelievable. I am gonna request for comment from other editors.--Chanaka L (talk) 10:07, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal:: Shame on your language. I am tired with you. Ask other editors to involve as mentioned. I think some one without an account is doing the same mistake on the template following your foot prints --L Manju (talk) 16:19, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@L Manju: While I am disappointed with your carelessness in the matter, I don't doubt intentions mate. We both want to improve the article. I wouldn't stop collaborating with you. Cheers--Chanaka L (talk) 05:13, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Denominator when calculating the percentage increase - Re Covid 19

Hi Chanakl, I think the denominator when calculating the percentage increase should be the previous day cumulative value. So I changed your edit accordingly. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks :). Nishadhi (talk) 18:08, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
