Nelly's Age
Since Nelly's birthdate is 11/02/1974, he should now be 45, and not still 44. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8807:A700:10CA:0:0:0:D513 (talk) 03:30, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
Here is a 2020 picture of Nelly.
STOP THE SPAM
This is an encyclopaedic article on the person, NOT A GUESTBOOK. This is the talk page for discussing changes to the Nelly article. Also sign your comments with 4 tildes (~). The spam that was on this page (E.G. i really love nelly i just dont like when people talk about how kelly and ashanti go with nelly it make me so mad. i am his #1 fan because 2 is not a winner and 3 nobody remeber.) before has been removed. huntersquid 17:29, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Mate, You got a point, I hate it when people write all those stupid comments! Dont this guy cover a bit of country rap, u know geeze?
NBA Celebrity All-Star Game MVP
He won it. Would be nice if it showed up in the article. You know just to demonstrate how versatile he is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.142.238.51 (talk • contribs)
He was also co-MVP of the 2009 MLB Legends and Celebrity Softball Game, played in his hometown of St. Louis (he was co-MVP with college basketball coach Bobby Knight). I think this, along with the NBA celebrity game are important because sports are a key part of his life. He is quite athletic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.135.162.199 (talk) 04:25, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
HOW Birth Year is NOT wrong
He was born in 1974. This was FIRST typed in 2006, he was 32 then, but NOW, he's 38
Nelly is 38 (as of June 10, 2012). his birthday is November 2, 1974, so the page is right, 1974. Entry on Texas birth index: Haynes, Cornell Iral M 1974-11-02. --Fallout boy 21:58, 30 April 2006 (UTC) But that was because this was first typed in 2006
- If the Texas birth index quotes 1974 (as above), why does the main article quote the same source as proving a 1975 birth date ? Anyhow, he was born 2 November 1973, or my name is Nelly. (Please sign your comments. Four tildes (~) is all it takes - thanks)
So what year was he born then? In the main article, it says 1974, but in the background information, it says 1978. So either he was 19 when his daughter was born, or 15- SCB '92 09:06, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've cited it as November 2, 1974, based on IMDB. Do not change the article without first providing a contrary source here on talk. Superm401 - Talk 04:27, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Move article
Shouldn't this article be moved? The Nelly article should be the disambig page, shouldn't it? — « hippi ippi » 09:07, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes; this page should be Cornell Haynes Jr. and the page Nelly should be the disambig. Iph (talk) 21:41, 20 October 2008 (UTC) Unless it can be proven in the next 24 hours or so that more readers in the anglophone world are interested in Cornell Haynes Jr than in all the other people called Nelly or Nellie --- including Nelly Dean (the song, the pub[s] and the character in Wuthering Heights) --- it should be moved now; this was proposed a year and ahalf ago and no objections have been lodged here in that time even though, probably, the only people particularly likely to come to this article at all are fans of this rapper person. Iph (talk) 10:36, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- There was no objections, but that doesn't mean there's a consensus to move it. I'm contesting this move anyway. DiverseMentality(Boo!) 17:55, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
On the contrary: Wikipedia:Consensus directing to Wikipedia:Silence and consensus says "Silence implies consensus". If nobody else objects, and nobody (including DiverseMentality) offers statistical proof that, as DiverseMentality puts it, "when someone searches Nelly, it's mainly for the rapper, not the given name because it isn't exactly too common." then by the Wiki rules there is consensus that this move should happen and there is also no logical reason to leave the aticle about Cornell Haynes Jr. under the title "Nelly" but there is good reason to remove the extra click to "..."disambig)" for visitors looking for all other Nelly[/-ie] references. Iph (talk) 09:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- What you fail to understand is that if I'm objecting this move, you have no consensus. Note how Nas, Ciara, Michael Jackson, Curtis Jackson (which redirect to 50 Cent), are the main articles, but have hatnotes that direct users to disambiguation pages. That's because they are the most common people search when typing these names. Of course I can't back up my argument with statistics that Nelly is search for most, but you can't show me statistics he's not, either. Your argument against mine is that, and I quote from your talk page, You are 18 years old and rappers may be a big deal in your world, but to most of the people in the world they are a minor detail of teenage popular culture in Europe and north America and of no real significance in the greater scheme of knowledeg about this planet and the rest of the universe. I can easily counter that argument with You are not 18 years old and rappers are not a big deal in your world, so you feel the need that Nelly should be a disambiguation page. Just because you don't agree with my argument doesn't mean you can ignore it and deem it an invalid one, and it seems with that reasoning, you feel you have a consensus. DiverseMentality(Boo!) 01:29, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
probably I'm the only one who was looking for Nellie the Elephant here :D but I guess this should be a disambig page, this rapper is no Michael Jackson after all. – Alensha talk 22:13, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

- Oppose: For two reasons. First, there sure are other people called Nelly, but this one is the most popular going by the name. As the article says "fourth best-selling rap artist in American music history" and "the number three Top Artist of the Decade". For the rest there is a good disambiguation page at Nelly (disambiguation), which I just added to the hat note to make navigation easier. Second, there is only one other person using the mononym Nelly (an Egyptian singer). The rest are called Nelly Someone, so people who look for their pages are most likely to type their full name. 2Flows (talk) 13:46, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose The fact that there are other persons and things known as Nelly is only relevant if it can be shown they are comparable for purposes of primary topic criteria. A quick glance a Google and traffic statistics strongly suggests that the rapper is the primary topic. older ≠ wiser 13:54, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose — The rapper/singer definitely appears to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the name "Nelly". As 2Flows also said, there is only one more person that uses the mononym Nelly and there is really no agreement between who is the most significant, notable or search-likely. STATic message me! 16:28, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Support. Pop music and its singers are nearly all ephemeral. I (and thus likely many others) had never heard of this singer. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:58, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- There are only three other articles called "Nelly". Two are also pop culture related (another singer and a film) about subjects far less notable. The other is a one sentence article on the given name. — AjaxSmack 00:41, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Strong oppose - there's not even a vague reference to any sort of evidence. This is a clear and obvious primary topic. Red Slash 03:19, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- Nelly (disambiguation) lists 19 uses for Nelly and Nellie. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:50, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yes but only three of the entries are entities called simply "Nelly" (plus a ship that had that name for a couple of years). "Nellie" is irrelevant to the location of "Nellie". The rest of the entries, to varying degrees, don't belong on the DAB page because they are partial title matches. — AjaxSmack 18:05, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: no consensus about whether or not the rapper is the primary topic. Jenks24 (talk) 01:27, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Nelly → Nelly (rapper) – Was previously moved by user:Ohconfucius with the reason: "too many Nellies for him to have a monopoly of the namespace" – my reason while trying to move is "not of overriding importance" (looking at other meanings like the female given name). After that the article about the female given name as main importance – or at least the Nelly (disambiguation) page should be moved to the Nelly entry. Manual moving is not possible because of existing redirect. – Hartwin Wolf (talk) 19:47, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- This has previously been rejected at RM before (see section above) and therefore is not uncontroversial. Jenks24 (talk) 06:40, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Jenks24 (talk) 06:40, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. This article is the primary topic for "Nelly". sst✈discuss 09:04, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. Unless something has changed for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of "Nelly" to shift to another topic, evidence of which hasn't been presented by the way, this article should stay at its current name. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 18:02, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- The evidence—which I stated btw—is clearly obvious, no way to see it not: The main meaning is the given name, and that is not a matter of my or someone else's opinion – refer to google:
- "nelly name -wikipedia" vs. "nelly rapper -wikipedia" → ratio 12.5M:2M = 6.25:1 — or since when is Wikipedia renamed to "Rapper-Advertipedia"? --Hartwin Wolf (talk) 11:51, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not arguing your overall logic, but your closing commentary is a bit silly. Not having disambiguation after an article title is hardly a reason to be making promotional accusations like that... Sergecross73 msg me 20:06, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Support a rapper is not the majority use of Nelly (disambiguation) in world history. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:08, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Support this move, dab should be at base name 73.154.175.89 (talk) 17:34, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. None of the other Nellys listed at the disambiguation page are known only as "Nelly" like the rapper is. He is clearly the primary topic. Numbers never lie, check the scoreboard: the disambiguation page has 1,346 views in the last 90 days [1] and the one on the name has 1,834 [2] while the rapper has 119,000 [3]. Calidum T|C 18:52, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- There you err! Especially the female given name I refer to has no addition to "Nelly" in its lemma. --Hartwin Wolf (talk) 20:53, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Note - I declined the speedy delete request that would have allowed this move to take place, but that was mostly because the nominator pointed to a consensus that did not exist in his rationale. I'm currently neutral in the actual name change. Sergecross73 msg me 20:06, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Well, there were two users pro and one contra – the better arguments on the pro-side. Otherwise nothing but silence. That did I see as a pro for moving—"consensus" was maybee a too stron word. --Hartwin Wolf (talk) 20:53, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- #Requested_move_14_January_2014 had four users opposed to this move and two in favor. That's strong consenus against moving. Calidum T|C 21:03, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

- I'd never heard of the rapper before until right now. He's certainly not a household name to people who are not hip-hop fans (like me). "Nelly", to me, is a female name, and a slang pejorative. I was very astonished to find this rapper at the title, rather than a disambiguation page. US popular culture is not as globally important as you might think; some US entertainers are simply not very well-known abroad. I definitely agree that he is not "of overriding importance", even if he may be the best known individuum known by the mononym; but even Madonna still needs a disambiguation. This is certainly not an obvious case. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 02:12, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Edit Request, Nelly's Albums
For some reason, "Da Derrty Versions" is not listed - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Da_Derrty_Versions:_The_Reinvention Yes, this was labelled a "Remix Album" however, it was an official release from Universal Music (his record company), not to mention, had separate singles for the release of the album ("Iz U" and "Tip Drill Remix" (E.I.) (featuring St. Lunatics)) The album should be listed in his list of albums. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DaVibe (talk • contribs) 21:07, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

In the section titled "2000–03: Breakthrough with Country Grammar and Nellyville", the article states:
"Other singles from the album included "E.I."; "Ride wit Me", featuring his brother City Spud".
Please remove the word "brother" since City Spud is not actually Nelly's brother (this is a common misconception). Akshayg2142 (talk) 04:19, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
Nelly in Ksa
Is it true Nelly will perform in KSA. Or he will only sign autographs? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 45.211.170.139 (talk) 14:00, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Edit Request - Venture with Sherine
Hey Wikipedia, i'd just like to ask if it is of any importance that his Coke Studio fusion of "Just A Dream" (Ensa El Mawd3ou3 in Arabic) with Egyptian singer Sherine could be added as another venture in his career, as this song was popular song in the Middle East, with about 22 million views on YouTube and 3.6 million plays on the music streamer Anghami. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Masrywakanadee (talk • contribs) 17:55, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
