The Head of the Donetsk People´s Republic or Head of the Republic of Donetsk (Russian: Глава Донецкой Народной Республики, romanizedGlava Donetskoy Narodnoy Respubliki) is the highest elected official of the Donetsk People´s Republic, a Russian republic located on the territory of Donetsk Oblast (province) that is disputed between Russia and Ukraine with Russia controlling most of the territory.

Elections

Elections of the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic are carried out based on universal, equal, and direct suffrage by secret ballot for five years. The head of the Donetsk People’s Republic is a citizen of the DPR who does not have foreign citizenship, is not younger than 30 years old, has the right to vote, and has no criminal record. For registration, the candidate must provide at least 10,000 signatures of voters. The same person cannot be the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic for more than two consecutive terms.[1]

The last election of the partially-recognized republic was in 2018 with Denis Pushilin winning, during his 5 year term[2]. The Invasion of Ukraine happened, the DPR led my Pushilin quickly joined Russia in the invasion, with the republic quickly capturing towns, villages and cities such as Mariupol. On 23 September 2022 after months of the invasion, the country and 3 other Russian-occupied regions. On 30 September 2022, the annexation was confirmed. The DPR changed from a state to a Russian republic. Denis Pushilin was replaced as head of state and his position went to Putin. He officially became head of the republic with secondary power.
