Unbelievable
After spending time in the discussion above which ended in the rationale to keep, this happens: Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2016_September_9#File:Clip_breeding-foaling-A_Celebration_of_Horses.webmhd.webm. Atsme📞📧 15:11, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- Please note that the discussion above is informal at best, and is in no way a binding, community decision. Also, it concerns WP:NFCC#1, and not WP:NFCC#3b and WP:NFCC#8 (which I believe the file may not satisfy). Best, FASTILY 23:13, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- Fastily, I strongly disagree. The clip meets all 10 criteria set forth by WP:FU. If that clip could have been uploaded any other way, I would have uploaded it at Commons where I have an active account. The fact that WP does accommodate fair use media in situations like this one and because it was media that would be useful to a specific article, there was no valid reason to not upload it, especially in light of its encyclopedic value. Editors who have a basic knowledge about breeding stallions, and what all it entails, including the longterm value of a multimillion dollar stallion like Sultan's Great Day and his influence as a stallion on an entire breed of horses, well...I never imagined there would be any controversy at all over the clip. It makes as much sense to me as denying a rare FU racing clip of Secretariat because his article is about the horse not racing. smh I think it's sad and very frustrating that our time is being wasted this way. Wishing you a happy day. Atsme📞📧 01:55, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I don't think that Fastily is saying that the file definitely fails 3b and 8, just that it should be discussed, and that 1 is now irrelevant, which indeed it is. That's because the guidelines are different for FFD than they are for CSD. --Tryptofish (talk) 19:38, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- Ohhhhh, the acronyms...not to mention all the details in our countless guidelines ....but I'm pretty sure I get your point which is "discussion" first. I'd rather be spending my time expanding the article considering the word count, window of opportunity and other criteria for DYK-N but thank you for your input, Tryptofish. - I was kidding about the acronyms. I figured FFD wasn't connected to flower delivery, and actually knew tl;dr quite well because editors frequently begin their responses to me with it. Have you ever seen ntl;nm? Annnyway, it does look like a keep - plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is. Atsme📞📧 02:57, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Images
Hi. I'm not sure if you know about this but there is a discussion going on at Wikipedia talk:Conflict of interest regarding self-promotion of images that might interest you. I would like to point out to anyone reading this that it is no way any sort of accusation whatsoever. I am simply mentioning it because I know that Atsme has a general interest in photography and videos on here. DrChrissy (talk) 20:05, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, DrChrissy - it actually is a topic of interest to me and many other users at Commons and en.Wikipedia. Feedback and learning the opinions of others is a good thing. Atsme📞📧 01:53, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Sultan's Great Day
Thanks for pinging me about Sultan's Great Day the other time. I haven't been on in a while, life is more busy. Is there anything I can do to help? Horsegeek(talk) 18:52, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Hi, Horsegeek - actually there are a couple of discussions taking place right now - one of which I initiated on Montanabw's TP, and one that DrChrissy mentioned above in another discussion regarding media uploads and whether or not a COI exists. I think the COI concerns regarding media uploads are overreaching and actually conflict with image use policy in that there are certain things copyright holders are required to include in order to avoid copyvios that may involve a license under CC-BY-SA, the latter of which appears to be misunderstood from time to time. If public domain and SA licensing aren't gigantic hurdles in and of themselves, add the ambiguity of the WP:FU guideline which may create more disruption than it avoids. I shudder whenever there's a push for more bureaucracy but isn't that typical in our little Utopian community where everything is supposed to be free. As things stand now, we're doing all we can just to maneuver through the mine fields of Commons, never mind en.Wikipedia's {{keep local}} uploads. Expressing my views strictly from the position of an editor whose primary focus is to enhance the reading/viewing experience, I tend to lean toward allowing more media uploads with fewer restrictions that do more harm than good. Anyway, the two discussions I mentioned are not RfCs, so it's safe to encourage participation from our Project Equine members and anyone else who has an interest. Taking you up on your offer
Hi Atsme, You made an offer to copyedit/review WPSCUBA articles on the project page, and I would like to get Underwater diving to GA. If you are still up for it, I would appreciate either recommendations or a review if you think the article is ready. Copyedits also always welcome of course. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 09:29, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, Pbsouthwood - I'm happy to help. I just did a speed read and recommend that you (1) respond to the [citation needed] tags, (2) check for dead links, and (3) make sure the citations follow a uniform style regarding dates, etc. Consider making the "See also" section a collapsible list. Once you get that done, make it a WP:GAN and let me know. I'll be happy to review it. Atsme📞📧 16:12, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- I have provided references where tagged, or removed unciteable claims, found two dead links and tagged them. There is not really anything in the see also section, so I don't understand your suggestion. I also don't understand your point about the dates in the citations, could you explain? Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 19:05, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, Peter - I saw where you were working on citations - aren't they fun?!! My reference to dates in citations: maintain consistency; either go with day|month|year, or month|day|year with text or number format. Example - if you go with 21 September 2014 all dates must have the month in text in the citation. At the article, see footnote 47 vs 49, 50, & 51. Go ahead and nominate for GA and since I've already started some of the review, I'll run with it. Atsme📞📧 20:04, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Atsme, I have changed all dates in references to dd Month yyyy format, as most were already using it and it is one which is not easily confused. It is possible I may have missed something - let me know. Fun is probably not the first word that springs to mind when trying to sort out citations, particularly those with dead links and bare urls. I console myself with the alternative concepts of "useful" and "necessary". I have also nominated under Miscellaneous, as it really does not fit into any of the other categories. Over to you. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 12:21, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- Peter, which of the following subtopics do you think best fits the topic: Physics and Astronomy or Sports and recreation? Oh, and I was happy to see that you worked through the COI allegation without incident. There is currently a discussion about that very topic at Wikipedia_talk:Conflict_of_interest. When I saw where the article had been tagged, I used the diff as an example in the ongoing discussion there, and wanted you to know. Atsme📞📧 14:00, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- It is more a matter of which fits least badly. At least some of diving is done as a sport or recreation. It is influenced by physics to much the same extent than anything real is affected by physics. The choice is inadequate, but on the other hand, it doesn't really matter, does it? Diving articles have been listed before under sports and recreation and under biology and medicine, so I wouldn't object to sports and recreation, though a very significant part is industrial, scientific and military. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 14:34, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- I don't remember a COI allegation. When was this? Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 15:16, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- See in May 2015, June 2015, and September 2016. Atsme📞📧 16:34, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- Now I recall. A false alarm really. I don't think the alleged COI editor ever edited the article. The recent one wasn't so much a COI allegation as a suspected linkspam, which was easily cleared up. Minor issues. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 18:59, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, Atsme. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
Hello Atsme. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:53, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
New Page Review - newsletter
- Breaking the back of the backlog
If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
- Second set of eyes
Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.
- Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote
With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

Hello Atsme Thanks for agreeing to mentor me, i don't know if one month falls under new but if it does call me new lol. - Hi, Margaretver - welcome aboard. Enthusiasm is a great motivator! Thank you, Serialjoepsycho for your consideration and the kindness you've shown. Ok, I'll start with some basic tips:
- If you want to create articles, I suggest starting them in your Sandbox so I can help you along the way.
- If you want to volunteer as a copy editor and fix punctuation and/or grammatical errors, just edit those articles directly.
- If you see something you believe requires a major change, make a suggestion on the talk page of the article first, especially if the article has a GA or FA symbol at the top of the page.
- Leave your biases at login and evaluate your proposed changes from a neutral point of view, avoiding undue weight regardless of whether it leans negative or positive.
- When you cite a source, be sure to follow the citation guidelines and maintain consistency in how you cite the sources throughout the article.
- If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Happy editing!! Atsme📞📧 12:19, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.
The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.
- Second set of eyes
Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.
- Abuse
This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and
- this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
- this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
- This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.
Coordinator election
Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Hey, would you consider making any comment?
Hey Atsme,
Do you recall me from montanabw's page, an introduction. I've been working on bucking bull pages. She asked if you could join in any rodeo pages if necessary as it might come up and you said sure...so this came up. Having trouble finding people to comment. No one from wikiproject agriculture responded. I'm trying to get the Bull Riding Hall of Fame to be part of this notability page. Of course, an editor rejected it saying she wants consensus. Could you look and see if you can add anything? Don't feel obligated, though.
Thanks, dawnleelynn(talk) 23:34, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Great facet of bull riding that you pointed out. I hadn't thought of but is very important! :) dawnleelynn(talk) 16:32, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Atsme Message
Good morning Atsme,
The Portugal Golden Visa page is something that should absolutely be a part of wikipedia. It offers a lot of value to the people who are interested in any international retirement topic and discussion.
I followed the policy by looking around to see if there was a current page for it and there was nothing.
Please re-consider the deletion process of Portugal Golden Visa. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Toxicarbon (talk • contribs) 18:51, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Speedely Deleted Ayşe Çınar's Page
Hi I want to create a page for Ayse Cınar because of the couple of reasons. First of all, she has performed in different shows since 1997. In her first album, she has worked with different European singers such as Monica Molina who is a popular Spanish singer. Secondly, she is going to perform for a global movie sountracks and TV series in Turkey. She will be very very popular soon, her first song has watched more than 140.000, as well as her song is playing in national radios everyday. You may enjoy her songs :) by the way. I assure you about her importance with the links that you can see below; but to be sure please inform me about how can i present the data about her importancy.

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.
- Still a MASSIVE backlog
We now have 816 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Trolling
Interesting article - wondering how Wikipedia can apply it in a positive way...Atsme📞📧 01:32, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- I only read the very beginning, because I did not go behind the paywall, so I'm likely to be missing a lot. But I would draw a distinction between actual trolling, in which someone intends to cause disruption because they find it amusing, and incivility, which happens when someone simply says something that they will later regret. I think the real problem at Wikipedia is the latter: witness how WP:CIVIL has essentially become unenforceable. (Further reading: WP:Griefing.) --Tryptofish (talk) 20:44, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- Poop! Sorry about that Tryp. It wasn't a paywall when I first read it. Ok, so I Googled it in another browser, and came up with a link that has no paywall. It was actually a controlled experiment by Stanford and Cornell researchers who established that together, mood and exposure to trolling can make a person twice as likely to troll. And then it covers a few of the existing features & algorithms in use, such as the one Twitter deployed in February. It's a feature that, for about a 12-hour period, blocks the tweets of an abusive user, as determined by Twitter’s algorithms, from being seen by anyone but the harasser’s followers. More recently, Twitter has taken steps to identify accounts that were obviously spawned to harass others. It's an interesting read. Atsme📞📧 00:11, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the new link. I read the whole article, and found it very interesting. In particular, I'm interested that a person's posts can be influenced by their mood, which in turn, is influenced by other posts that they read. That's true, and it happens all the time on-wiki. And it isn't limited to trolling. It happens as well with what I said above, about civility. Post an angry comment to another user, or revert with a grouchy edit summary, and one is likely to get an unpleasant response, which can then snowball when that response irritates someone else. Happens all the time, and is doubtless at the root of many of Wikipedia's problems. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:26, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Colorado Museum of Natural History speedy
I removed the tag because I think this is exactly what a disambiguation page is. The name is used to refer to the CU museum, and the name appears extensively in Westen US dino taxonomy literature. It is quite possible for someone to come across the term and search for it. Then, where do they go? This page lets them pick. I started a talk page discussion. --2601:648:8503:4467:9BF:D17C:52A3:91AF (talk) 05:32, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Article Wylie Gustafson
Hi Atsme! One of the articles that ended up in our temporary holding category Rodeo performers (general) was this article: Wylie Gustafson. I'm now going through these categories that didn't seem easy to place at first and am trying to resolve them. This one just became clear to me. I think this man might be in your purview. montanabw says you have a background in cutting horses and this man is a 2005 & 2008 NCHA Western National Finals Top Ten Open Finalist. Also, he has appeared at the Gold Coast Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (2008, 2009). The reason his article was created was for yodeling though, but the rodeo background still deserves some secondary attention I believe. Your name was not in the history section, so didn't think you were already aware of it. If you decide he belongs with horse categories and wikiprojects, you can remove our category and let me know? Thanks in advance. Hope you are well. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:35, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi me again. I see you have this one under control. Should I remove the category Rodeo performers (other) from it too? Louis Pearce Jr. The only connection I see is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Should he be in a rodeo category because of his service to this rodeo organization? Thoughts? Thanks! dawnleelynn(talk) 22:43, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, dawnleelynn - I looked up Wylie's earnings: WYLIE GUSTAFSON [# 67037-01] from CONRAD,MT and he has a Life membership, and status as a Non-Pro (2017). Lifetime NCHA Earnings $123,713.02. I also found the following cached article which may help. Adding a Cutting category is justified, but I'm not sure about rodeo. Was he the entertainment at the rodeos or was he a contestant in the roping, bronc riding, bull riding, etc? If he consistently performed at rodeos, like a rodeo announcer or entertainer, then he belongs in the rodeo category (other). What we don't want to do is confuse cutting horse events and breed horse shows & livestock shows that are held in conjunction with a rodeo as a "rodeo event". I agree with you on Louis - he made a major impact on Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and loved every minute of it. Atsme📞📧 00:01, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Regarding Gustafson: I did some searching regarding him. If you look at the External Links on his article and go to his web site, to the Biography page, you'll find a reference to roping. I put it here for your convenience. https://www.wyliewebsite.com/press/biography/ It's the last item: "Champion team roper at 1998 Reba McEntire/Ben Johnson Celebrity Rodeo." Taken alone, that might not be much. But I also found this web site of his ranch that mentions roping too. "He is a participant in local ranch roping contests. In his younger days he was a competitive team roper." https://www.crossthreequarterhorses.com/. By the way, on that biography page link, there are quite a number of cutting horse awards that could be added to his article. I'm going to add the roping content to his article with citation, and drop the Rodeo performer (other) category and add the Roping (rodeo) category to the article. I believe we will both have a stake in the article going forward. You, for the cutting horse content, and me for the rodeo content. Although, I don't see it changing much, just need to keep an eye on it mostly. If this is agreeable to you, naturally.
- Now, regarding Pearce. It seems we are in agreement here too. He will remain in the Rodeo performers (other) category for now. He will definitely stay a rodeo category for his contribution to the Houston Fat Show. LOL. I will discuss with montanabw the remaining members of the category once I have gone through them all. The ones I could not find a new home for will be a matter of discussion we will have. Or they may just stay there. I don't know yet... but thanks for your help. I may dig through and see if I can find anything more on him rodeowise as well. Let me know if I missed anything. Talk to you later. dawnleelynn(talk) 03:25, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Dispute Resolution Noticeboard Volunteer Roll Call
This is a volunteer roll call sent to you on behalf of the current Dispute Resolution Noticeboard Coordinator, Robert McClenon, and is being sent to you because you have listed yourself as a volunteer at DRN. If you remain interested in helping at DRN and are willing to actively do so by taking at least one case (and seeing it through) or helping with administrative matters at least once per calendar month, please add your name to the roll call list. Those who do not add their name on the roll call list will be removed from the principal volunteer list after May 31, 2017 unless the DRN Coordinator chooses to retain their name for the best interest of DRN or the encyclopedia. Individuals whose names are removed after May 31, 2017, should feel free to re-add their names to the principal volunteer list, but are respectfully requested not to do so unless they are willing to take part at DRN at least one time per month as noted above. No one is going to be monitoring to see if you live up to that commitment, but we respectfully ask that you either live up to it or remove your name from the principal volunteer list.

- Adityavagarwal, perhaps I misunderstood your expectations. I saw the tag and assumed you wanted copy editing. If your intention is to nominate it for a WP:GA I can't do the copy edit and be the GA reviewer. Are you just wanting peer review? If so, my first response is that it needs copy editing. That article is nowhere close to GA quality and really is more of an overview to direct people to the different "wild" horses they may be searching for on WP... creating it settled a really nasty edit dispute about 8 years ago (I think for the horse GAN) and the battle still has me twitchy... I've said more at the talkpage of the article. Montanabw(talk) 03:31, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- Actually while editing it, I thought about the same. Also, it talked about different types of wild horses (as you pointed out, which I noticed too) which did not seem particularly an article to be named "Wild Horse". Also, I apologize for my late response, as I was busy packing my things and could not log on (I did not know I would find any notifications, distinct from what I normally receive). If I knew there were some such issues, I would check it out earlier. Also, Thank you very much for letting me know about it. :D Adityavagarwal (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Hi! actually, there was no copy edit template when I asked you to review. I saw it just today. Even though the template might have been put before my previous comment and after my request for review; however, I saw it just now. :P Yeah, you cannot review and be a major contributor of the article, both at the same time. I, in fact, asked for a review and not for the copy edit (as I said earlier, there was no such template earlier) :P. Anyways, I withdrew it from the GAN, and also thank you very much for all your time and effort! :) Adityavagarwal (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 816 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!
But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.
