The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a commemorative medal created to mark the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The medals are made of nickel silver. The obverse features a crowned effigy of the King and Queen facing left.

The reverse shows the Royal Cypher CIIIR surmounted by the Tudor Crown, a laurel wreath and the date of the coronation, 6 May 2023.

Eligibility

Those who received the medal for the King's Coronation Medal were:[1]

  • Individuals who have actively contributed to the official Coronation events in Westminster Abbey and processions, and other officially recognised ceremonial Coronation events.
  • Serving members of the Armed Forces who have completed five full calendar years of service on 6 May 2023 or participate in Armed Forces Coronation events during the course of 2023.
  • Frontline emergency personnel who have been in paid service, retained or in a voluntary capacity, dealing with emergencies as part of their conditions of service, and completed five full calendar years of service on 6 May 2023;
  • Prison services personnel who are publicly employed and who have completed five full calendar years of service on 6 May 2023.

The medal will be awarded in the United Kingdom to people who work in public service, including the Armed Forces, the emergency services, and the prison services as well as those involved in the Coronation itself.[2] 400,000 medals will be minted, and personnel will be expected to have either served five years (up until 6 May 2023) or be part of the coronation parade to qualify for the medal.[3]

Canada

The Government of Canada has announced a coronation medal programme to honour 30,000 Canadians who have made significant contributions to the country, a province, territory, region or community or have achieved something abroad that brings credit to Canada.[4]
