National pageant notes

Debuts

  •  French Polynesia: Tahiti will be returning to Miss World after 3 years under the name French Polynesia. The territory had previously sent delegates under the name Tahiti, though Tahiti is only one island in French Polynesia. A new pageant, Miss French Polynesia, has been created to send contestants to Miss Universe and Miss World, in contrast with the traditional Miss Tahiti Nui, whose winner is sent to Miss France and whose runner-up is sent to Miss Earth.

Replacements

  •  Bulgaria: Antonia Petrova was the official delegate to Miss World 2009, however she and Miss Bulgaria Universe, Elitsa Lubenova switched their positions. Elitsa will compete in Miss World 2009 and Antonia in Miss Universe 2009. The scandal started because Antonia Petrova had breast implants, and the Miss Bulgaria Organization said that "Breast implants were more accepted in Miss Universe than in Miss World".
