My wiki article is not displaying on google

I don't know if you will be able to help me, but when I google my article named "Otalia" (well it's been renamed to Olivia Spencer and Natalia Rivera and now Otalia is a redirect, but same problem exists), it is not displayed on google. Even when I type - Otalia-wikipedia (or the new title)- it does not show up in google. When I enter the new title in google just the separate character articles show up in google. When I use the same format for other articles, they show up in google. Are you able to help me?

DYK nomination of Orlando Plummer

Hello! Your submission of Orlando Plummer at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Law shoot! 14:52, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

botfight!

On the Pulpit Rock page, you removed the orphan tag for a second time- it was added by the orphan bot both times. The orphan template criteria states it's supposed to be removed once there are THREE incoming links. I suspect that's why it has added the template back. Just telling you before this man-machine conflict turns ugly. tedder (talk) 07:13, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that's funny. There is a WikiProject out there for orphans and I caught one of them removing a tag from an article with one, as the tag says "none or few" or whatever. I then brought it up on the project's talk page and they had a consensus that one was enough and the tag needed to be changed. Oh well. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:15, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe there's a special exception for you or for anyone dealing with the WPOregon stuff :-) tedder (talk) 07:25, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed this and was wondering how many links are enough, as there has been a proliferation of bot-edits cluttering up my (and the project's) watchlist. Is it safe to remove the tag from Pulpit Rock again or what? Is the bot separate from the project and has anyone had a chat with the bot owner? I'm all for Building the Web, but 3 incoming links as a threshold seems a bit high for some articles. I'd be willing to settle for 2, but it seems like this bot thing is going to encourage shoehorning links into articles where they don't necessarily belong just to get the bot called off... Katr67 (talk) 19:25, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have not idea what the orphans are doing, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Orphanage. It is full of the same complaints and what not. Personally, if there are 2 links I will remove the tag. Some of these articles will eventually have more incoming links as we actually build the web (wikilinks don't build the web, we the editors do IMO). They only reasons behind this IMO is better Google rankings, as the search function is rather effective in finding articles (plus it seems it should be on the talk page as it has nothing to do with article quality, its an internal matter). But time for third link for the rock. Aboutmovies (talk) 19:50, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shiny thing

Thank you very much. I'm planning to nominate Forest Park for GA in April, and I hope to work Tryon Creek up to that level later in the year. Ruhrfisch has pointed out that the four Portland creek/slough FAs plus a Tryon Creek GA might make a qualifying featured topic. I'm giving this some thought. Pete looks about ready to nominate Columbia River for FA, and Hillsboro is good to go. All of this is pleasing. Another thought: I should be sending you an award for all the excellent work that you do. You seem to be everywhere. It made me very happy, for example, to discover your photo of the Sheridan bridge just when I needed it. Finetooth (talk) 15:12, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem with the pics, its a hobby. FYI I just started the Hillsboro FA, so hopefully we can get a batch through in the next few months. To quote Homer Simpson, Keep on Truckin. Aboutmovies (talk) 23:13, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hillsboro

Just saw your note. It's nearing midnight, and I must stop for the nonce. I'll read through Hillsboro again ASAP tomorrow morning. Finetooth (talk) 07:38, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. Time to work on prepping some GA candidates to make March "Promotion Month," brought to you by caffeine and procrastination! Aboutmovies (talk) 08:00, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I proofed the whole article again this morning and made some nit-picky changes that I hope are improvements. One thing that concerns me but that I didn't change is the table in the Education section. MoS seems to prefer straight prose to tables created simply for layout reasons, and this particular table might meet with scowls at FAC. It would be easy to turn the table into straight prose, which I'd be happy to do if you agree. Finetooth (talk) 17:26, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the work, it looks good. With the table, I say leave it for now. If they comment on it, then we can convert it to prose. Its not like the article is lacking much prose already and there are only two other tables in use. Hopefully we'll get more feedback/support soon. Thanks again. Aboutmovies (talk) 22:09, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you about the education table. Ironically, my weather table is causing trouble. I agree with User:Ealdgyth that a dot-com is suspect, and I can't think of a way to show that this one is reliable. I've sent messages seeking advice from a couple of the hurricane project people and a couple of others. If nothing useful turns up, we can revert to your earlier text-based version. I remember wondering about the other site, Peter Toth, that Ealdgyth questions. It's a dot-com too, and the RS question is fair. The People citation should be sufficient by itself if it supports the specific Hillsboro claim. Finetooth (talk) 17:57, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I took care of the statue cites. The People one was actually providing the name of the sculptor's project and time frame, and didn't mention Hillsboro. With the weather, it would be great to keep the table and just find an alternate data source. When I have a chance I'll try to track some down if your hurricane folks aren't able to help. Aboutmovies (talk) 18:53, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They came through, and all is fixed, as you have probably seen. The Weather Channel is the answer. Another hurdle cleared. Finetooth (talk) 19:45, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, great work. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:02, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

<outdent>Next hurdle. User:Ruhrfisch has just sent me a couple of notes about the underlying copyright of the Toth statue. He's right, and I just missed it even though you had pointed out the "no right of panorama" problem when I photographed the Katz statue. You can see Ruhrfisch's notes on my talk page; it's possible that a fair use rationale would work, but I'm not certain. Finetooth (talk) 20:48, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But the plot thickens. Toth's piece was created in 1987, and since it is on public display was thus published that year. At that time some formalities still applied under US copyright law, which were removed in March 1989 due to the joining of the Berne Convention to bring US law in line with other members. So, as far as I know, there is no copyright notice of the sculpture, it was published prior to the removal of formalities of notice, thus it has entered the public domain. Aboutmovies (talk) 21:10, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm no expert on these matters, but the Wikipedia page [1] here seems to say that the 1978 (rather than 1987) cutoff applies to the idea of public display as publication, but publication doesn't mean the end of copyright protection. For that, the art must have been created before 1923. Or at least that is my reading of all this head-cracking stuff. Finetooth (talk) 22:17, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Linking out from that you will see under "Works First Published in the U.S." for the time frame we are talking about. And Toth did not register, only his book is registered. The 1978 is the date that after which you no longer had to register the work to receive protection (still need to to sue though). This is one of the reasons why copyright law is some complicated. With publication, if you published without registering pre-1978, it was public domain. Most of what Wikipedia/Commons does is use the dates for certainty. As in everything pre-1923 you are safe on. After that, something could still end up being public domain because the copyright wasn't renewed, or published without the (c) notice, or without registration. A DYK for me?

Hey, I hope school and/or procrastinating are treating you well. Can you take a look at Independence Historic District (Independence, Oregon) and let me know how much more I need to add to it to do a DYK? I can add info about some of the individual buildings, various hops barons and especially, if I can find something reliable, something about some of the buildings that are supposedly haunted. If I can't have ghosts, I think I can make something interesting out of "Hop Capital of the World". I'll have to make a trip to the library though. There's surprisingly little on-line about the place. The Internet means everybody just copies each other's info... Thanks for the 1920 street view pic too! If ya got anything else, lemme know. I've just got one other shot of the pink house, since I felt it was cliche to take pictures of main street, alas. If it isn't bloody snowing this weekend, I might pop out there for some pics. It's about time for me to find more money by the side of Highway 22...And hit Burgerville. Cheers! Katr67 (talk) 16:44, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PSU SBA account

Doesn't User:PSU SBA fall under WP:NOSHARE? What should be done about such a situation? tedder (talk) 22:56, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any evidence of more than one person using the account (it's likely just one marketing person), so it wouldn't fall under NOSHARE. But the username policy generally prohibits names like this, which EncMstr usually takes care of by blocking them. For me though, tagging the article and leaving the note on their talk page takes care of the problem about 75% of the time. After all, their work on Wikipedia is now done, they got their article up ;). Aboutmovies (talk) 07:22, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Skatekidsroofsalemoregon2.JPG

Hi. I note you tagged File:Skatekidsroofsalemoregon2.JPG as redundant of File:Skatekidsroofsalemoregon.JPG, but the two pictures are different. I've removed the speedy tag for now but wanted to let you know in case you had mixed up the redundant file name. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:10, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for clarifying. In this case, I believe that "redundant" means identical, as WP:CSD#F1 says, "Any unused media file that is a copy, in the same file format and same or lower quality/resolution, of another file on Wikipedia." If I'm understanding the criterion correctly and the image is simply unneeded because there is a similar one that serves its purpose better, it might be better to take it through WP:FfD (awkward initials; I liked IfD better), unless the uploader would like to tag it for deletion under WP:CSD#G7. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:45, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Saw your article on Benjamin Burch. Since he died 1893, am pretty sure photo on your second source is public domain--but even if that's not certain, it could still be used under Fair Use rule since Burch is dead and no alternative is available. Have standard text I tailor/use for Fair Use rationale if your interested.--Orygun (talk) 00:46, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the offer. I too have a standard form for the fair use/dead guy. I always err on the safe side, so unless I know it was published after 1923, I go fair use. I had hoped to find a free image in an old book and avoid the fair use part as well as the poor quality of the archives one, but never found one. So thanks for reminding me about the archives one. Hyphens and their cousins

I saw the new comments. Most of the hyphens were already correct, but east–west was an exception, and maybe a couple of others slipped through. I remember changing some en dashes to hyphens a few weeks ago, and I might have unwittingly changed a couple of east–west beasties to hyphens while on autopilot. It's no big deal. I'll check them again later today. Finetooth (talk) 15:09, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Most of the original hyphens were correct, and I restored them. I found a couple more east–west (or similar) combos to join with en dashes, and I en-dashed the two NRHP places with two-family names. I hadn't noticed those before. Finetooth (talk) 16:20, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

EL theory

This revert/edit: my theory is as follows:

  • the duplicated EL is the right way to go for important stuff from the infobox. This is how most articles appear to be, both in and outside of the school articles.
  • the inappropriate ELs: outpostcenters might be okay, but not the alumni association; that's no different than a fansite.

Those are my thoughts, at least. tedder (talk) 07:02, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oregon Ducks football

Hi, I'm not a member of WikiProject Oregon, but I recently outlined a task list in the Oregon Ducks football talk page that I hope to get feedback on. I noticed that WP Oregon does collaborations of the week. I remember seeing one done on an article and there were a ton of changes on more minor stuff. Unfortunately, I believe this page needs a major overhaul and I'm not sure if a COTW is the right way to go at this point? I did notice that this article has already been nominated for a COTW, and hopefully with a task list it can go more smoothly. The article is rated as top-importance, so I felt that WP Oregon would be a good place to look for input...and it seems like you're the guy to ask when it comes to WP Oregon.Cluskillz (talk) 18:39, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Looks good. Thanks again.WikiGolightly (talk) 09:00, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh no. It looks like a bunch of revisions I made tonight -- I mean lots, with new sections and significant additions woven into existing text -- got lost in the move. I cut and pasted a copy of the most recent (as edited by me) page into a Word document, so I didn't lose the changes altogether. But given the distaste for cutting and pasting, how can I get the new content back onto the page without going through both versions with a fine-tooth comb? By the way, I don't expect any controversy here -- he was beloved in his day, but no one has heard anything in decades. We want to summarize the info that's out there so people can learn about him again. I'll add references to printed archived materials tomorrow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiGolightly (talkcontribs) 09:20, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Did you look at the page history. Edits don't usually "get lost" during moves. More likely, someone else edited the article since you created it. So yes, you do need to go over the article with a finetooth comb, as I stated on your talk page. Katr67 (talk) 17:53, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In <year x>

Hiya Aboutmovies. Wow, you've been on WP a log time, esp. compared to me, which is why I enjoyed reading your well-written article on Stan Bunn no doubt. But may I just ask you about this edit? No probs. with the second change - I think with hindsight your original was better - but I'm uneasy re the first change, from "was president in his senior year" back to "was president his senior year". I note you say the latter's common usage. Well, I wonder how wide-spread that usage is? I'm from north-west England, and am used to nearly always hearing and putting the word 'in' before a period of time. It just sounds/reads odd to me, without the 'in'. For instance, "I bought a car in 1985" would sound odd to me without the 'in'.
Well, it's not a big deal. Keep up your good work - I'm impressed with how many DYK acknowledgements you've collected! (And jealous!) Best wishes, Trafford09 (talk) 10:43, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Weather goats!

While researching KRSB-FM for my latest Oregon radio station article, I stumbled onto pure gold: internationally famous weather goats in Roseburg, Oregon. Based on the source I've found, they were covered by magazines, newspapers, books, the NBC Nightly News, That's Incredible, Mother Jones, and surely dozens of other sources that aren't easily available (to me) on the web. I've cobbled together a two-paragraph precis for the KRSB-FM article (and resulting hook) but there's enough here for a substantial article. If you're local to Oregon, I bet even more info could be found in local sources from the 1970s. I've assembled a number of great sources at User:Dravecky/Sandbox/Weather Goats. Why do I mention this here? I'm frantically trying to get ready for a lengthy business trip in a couple of days and don't have time to do it justice as a new article. (Suggested title: Weather goats) Googling "KRSB goats" or "Roseburg weather goats" (without the quotation marks) will get you even more raw material to use. If you're not interested, please pass this info along to somebody else to WP Oregon. Have fun! - Dravecky (talk) 06:00, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for thinking of me, but I'll have to leave a note on the project talk page. I have bar prep for the next 8 weeks so my time is limited, and travel time is nonexistent. If I was still in law school it would be easy as the state library was across from campus and has most major Oregon papers on micro. I can check a few databases I still have access to though. Did you check the New York Times? Aboutmovies (talk) 06:07, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I only dug as deeply as I needed to for the radio station article... and then a bit deeper since I kept finding such killer material.
